    I thought it would be cool to play in a military band, but the recruiter I talked to said I was too old, that I had to be under age 28. Funny, a lot of the band members look older than 28.

    • @amberwalker1036
      @amberwalker1036 4 года назад

      The age requirement is the age that you have to enlist by, not a maximum age for remaining in the Marine Band. Different branches of the military have different age limits for enlisting though, so you may still be eligible to enlist in other branches.

      The President’s Own is the only non-combatant ensemble in the US military. No basic training required. At least that’s what I was told over 20 years ago; I could be wrong.

    The only thing i would say about it is I would like to hear more of the alto clarinet in 0:49 there's a wonderful sound being produced, but it's being diluted by the saxes. Just my opinion

    Though the musician ship isn't as good Fennels interpretation with the Navy band is more to my liking. Its not as heavy and dark as the Marine Band interpretation. For over all presentation I'll take the NorthTexas wind band interpretation. Her again there are some issues with muscianship but the over all effect to me is better. DaConinatillas Wind Band is up there in the mix too. Cincinnati Pops wind band with Fennel conducting is superb.

    • @Grovyle90
      @Grovyle90 3 года назад +4

      I think they're moreso playing to the choral version that they performed, which in order to sing the lyrics, requires a significantly slower tempo.
      Albeit, for band, I would agree that the much faster tempo sounds much more exciting.

      If you were to conduct this ensemble, how would would you have differently interpreted this piece? I ask because you must have an incredible musical background to hear areas improvement in what is arguably the most prestigious wind ensemble in the country.

    • @GTEd
      @GTEd 8 лет назад +4

      I would put more energy into the beat, a bit sharper accent on the accented notes, and better rhythmically shaped phrases. This is a respectable read-through but little more. Listen to Frederick Fennell conducting Eastman's Wind Ensemble for example.
