One of the finest men I ever had the privilege to meet. Forks should name a street in his honor, put up a statue, something. Sad thing is , he lived long enough that a lot of the folks who know how important he was and why he was so admired have already passed on.

I worked for Ernie for years he had the shop build whatever he had in his head. The Carriage he had for that skyline machine was built from front end of a D7 cat had 8 V92 Jimmy engine with D7 winch it was amazing to watch. My last job for Ernie was in the shop. One time the beer can gears went out of his Madil yarder ( lucky a crew bus kept it from going over the hill) so he went out back found a HD 20 Ben Keller and I retro fitted that in place of the drive on the Madill was a thing of beauty..Ernie was a genius and the hardest worker I ever knew

Did you ever meet my dad Lindsey Halverson? I've known Ernie for my whole life, he's my adopted Grandpa since my grandpa John passed in 89. Have some sad news though, nothing to do with Ernie he is still upright just has a hard time getting around but I think anybody at the age 95 would so as well. But the sad news is I've been helping cleaning up in the shop property and the first ever motorized carriage was sent for scrap. I hated seeing it go along with a bunch of other things you guys built, I tried to find someone or even was trying to get the timber museum to get it so they could display it but no one ever got back to me. What hurt me the most was seeing how upset Ernie was to see everything he work so hard for be scraped up like garbage. It's hard to tell a guy especially your good friend that he can't take it with him in the end and the town Forks would most likely inherit the problem and in the end he would get nothing for all of it. Just want him to be able to live comfortably and not have to worry about anything for the rest of his life, I think a lot of his friends would agree with me. Don't know where you live or if you're close to Forks but drop in and visit him sometime if you get a chance, he loves it when old friends stop by to swap lies and talk logging LOL.

@@jonathanhalverson2380 I don't remember Lindsey. I am a snowbird now, when I'm not in Arizona I live in Bellingham. I did stop by and see Ernie a few years back and had a great visit. I also call him from time to time and reminisce about the past. My X mother in law Willajo sees to him now and then I hear. And yes sad to hear about the stuff going to the scrap yard. I was part of that 245 in the yard there getting the extra rails on the tracs for Russ. I think I will make a trip over there this summer I will look you up.

But when you get to these parts just ask willa or Ernie about me and they'll know how to get in touch with me, I live right down the street on Cook Rd or I'll be at Dahlgrens shop working with Dave Hanson. Thanks again for getting back to me John look forward to meeting you, enjoy your nice weather you snowbird LOL.

Seems that right away was cut by Gary Jolly in 68-69 i was told .. but upon top the ridge facing Sore Thumb to the east there was some big units of timber that were pulled in ..Nice to see a logger with his knowledge and history who was there and logged .. Great interview i really enjoyed listening to what he had to say... I'm sure I would not be the only one saying " these men were cut from a cloth we all wish we could live up to" that will never happen. 2 inch skyline u kidding me lol my grandpa said using a Balloon they had up to 2 miles of line out using 2 berger towers one on each end, Logging what I think rates up in the toughest ground to log but he logged alot out of cottage Grove, up by Bohemia, mines, sharps creek and others. I got some Balloon logging videos from my grandpa maybe one day I'll up load them! Thank you Daniel

My uncle was doing a multi part job. Weyrhauser, Mayers and a couple others were part of it and my uncle had homebuilt D6 skidder with a 40-50 foot tower. They were on the job and one of the idiots in the twigs decided to grab a big ole spruce with the choker and of course the yarder started on yanking it.. my uncle made em double tailhold the yarder. Well, the pull was at a wierd angle and it pulled BOTH tailholds loose and dumped the yarder over.. almost on my uncle, who was standing next to the yarder.. cost him 3 months rebuilding the yarder and had Burchetts come in with their Manitowoc to finish the job
