Nailed it, M8. Saved me in my time of need. Just moved to the mountains and the ol' 28 (and my lungs/legs) ain't cuttin it. Had to throw on the 34 granny gear and had no idea where to plonk the spacers in.

Very handy having this here as I removed earlier what I thought was a complete 11 speed cassette, but turned out to be three largest rings conjoined and the other 8 rings loose and watching this made re assembly easy.
    Many thanks!

The only recommendation I would make is that you add chapters to your videos so people can easily go back and watch certain sections again.

Just to add to this highly detailed and informative explanation. On Shimano cassettes if you look at the indexing small spline, the clockwise groove is wider than the counter clockwise groove on the other side of the index. This effectively polarises the cogs and with the writing on the outer side as told, should prevent fitting them incorrectly as well.

Good informative video. One thing worth mentioning although the 11S markings on the gears face outwards they can only fit on the hub one way and cannot be reversed because of the hubs offset spline arrangement.

How about an L-shaped 8mm hex wrench with 1/2” Dr. adaptor, would this have good enough leverage? It’s what’s on my Super B 93500 tool set. Got no adjustable wrench right now. Got a box wrench somewhere, not sure if that’s ok to use.
Edit: Found the box wrench and it’s 15” and fits the lockring tool perfectly. I’ll try it.

I just bougth a shimano XT 11-speed 11-40 cassette and it looks like the gap between the smallest cog and next cog is wider than between all the other cogs... is this normal? Shouldn't they all be the same distance apart?

Hi, very informative, thanks. Can I ask your advice? I installed a brand new Shimano 11sp cassette on to a brand new Shimano RC700 wheel and noticed cassette wobble from the outset. I double checked the lock ring and it's not cross threaded. I'm struggling to get perfect shifting and chain sometimes skips under load and wonder if there might be an issue with wither the cassette or wheel manufacturing tolerances?

Nice clip for those with that set! I have a 7 speed, with one spacer..for the life of me cant fit the spacer anywhere..there is always too little room for the thread of the lock ring to grip and be tightened...gary fisher mamba -yeah old one. would fancy if someone could quote a link to a clip. thanks all!
