    As an ISTP RUclips and Instagram have been a gift and curse. Anytime I see something cool I want to learn how to do it. "This person can sculpt these amazing figures out of clay, I'm going to buy some clay and tools immediately and learn how to do that" this happens consistently. Some things I pick up easily others I feel would take to long to get to the skill level I want to be so I give up and move on to the next.

      You literally just described me. Family always tells me to stick to just one thing and master it, but I just cant! I've tried so many different things, karate, volleyball and basketball once, soccer, drawing, painting, playing guitar, piano, ukulele, woodworking/burning, prop making. I see something cool and I immediately go "Hey, that looks cool, I wanna learn to do that!" End up trying, liking it, but then I see something else more interesting and I wind up not MASTERING anything. And honeslty, there are quite a few different things I want to try, that I probably wont stick to.

    This is fantastic! I'm an ISTP female, and I was recently considering taking on a new hobby or two, so I definitely appreciate this video. I was greatly amused by what you said about baking, because I also enjoy baking, but don't follow recipes. I jokingly tell everyone that "recipes are just guidelines, anyway." Thank you for breaking through the ISTP stereotypes that are out there! I am far from a "risk-taker" the way they are often described. I also enjoy more Ti/Se skills based hobbies, like using a pottery wheel, etc.

    I like hobbies too. I dabble in different things, the only thing Ive kindof mastered is drawing. But for me it's not as much the experience of doing the hobby that I love as much as the figuring out how to do it part. I think that's why I tend to not really stick to one thing because once I feel I've really figured it out to my liking, I want to find something else to try out. I dont like to take classes unless it's something that you have to take a class for. But I really enjoy teaching myself how to do things and figuring it out for myself. I def like hands on stuff. Some of my hobbies throughout my life are drawing/painting, macrame, bicycle mechanics, competitive gymnastics, trampoline gymnastics, boxing/kickboxing, building websites, graphic art, guitar, piano, vinyl wrapping, hiking/camping, kayaking, cycling, i learned how to unicycle too lol. lately I've gotten really into permaculture farming and homesteading.

    I do play sports, love adventure, and I do take risks, for instance, I rode on the back of a scooter with a male stranger while I was visiting another city. But I wouldn’t do things like ski down a mountain at full speed as a novice skier. I also don’t like to follow directions (like with cooking). Yes, like you I love opportunities to be resourceful! I also love to sing and I love studying psychology. When I was younger I wrote poetry and created songs on the computer.

    Your video is really interesting to listen to as a female ISTP! When I was in high school I was heavily into pottery, drawing , and wood burning, archery, and also welding. They all require a lot of focus and technical skill and you just want to master it! I almost became a welder but it's really bad for your health, so I didn't! You talked about not being an adventure/ adrenaline seeker because you are super careful, but it's actually a benefit to outdoor recreation as it allows you to master the hobby. I also have that tendency to be incredibly aware of the risk and am insanely careful. All of my current hobbies have some sort of adrenaline seeking adventure aspect to them. For example I started snowboarding and skiing in middle school, and in college I learned how to rock climb, whitewater kayak, and now mountain bike. Being careful has been a huge benefit because I master the basics before moving into something that would otherwise be too hard for me.

      We Enjoy each others company and she is great but from the start I have this stupid doubt about traditional male/female dinamics because she is kind of a tomboy and i more energetic then me and she is more about action and I am more about experiecimg some feeling. I am sport guy as well but she will always outlast me :) Dunno, in my mind I always saw myself with more traditional "feminen" woman. That is the only thing that is putting me off.

    It’s funny how similar your approach is to mine when taking on hobbies. Your hobbies are so different from mine, but also similar. I love sewing, gardening, and I have a hobby laser I love creating with. Same requirement as you, has to be hands on in order for me to enjoy it. I actually follow patterns/recipes the first time I do something then after I do it once I can use the process and not follow a pattern and just wing it. Like if I’ve made a pillow or a certain quilt I could certainly do it without a pattern. I play the flute and piccolo, still love playing but don’t have as much time as I used to. l also love creating things from items I have laying around. I created my son a race car track out of flat drapery rods that I had just taken down last night, taped them all together and raised one side of the track so he could run his hot wheels down the ramp. Thanks for sharing. I’m starting to think that indeed I am an ISTP female.

    I am an istp female and I’m not really into music but I do like sewing. Also I’m really into fashion design because I can get so creative and design my own clothing. fishing, football, soccer, and hiking are also some of my favorite things to do. I also enjoy dancing. I also use to crochet but I got bored of it. I always am finding new hobbies but then I just get so tired of them because it’s the same thing over and over so I can’t learn new things of what I’m doing and I feel like it’s just a waist of my time.

    I love your video. This describes me so well. I love baking and cooking, but I don't like to follow recipes. If I'm trying something new, I'll read a whole lot of recipes to get the idea of how to do it, then I'll wing it. :) I love using my hands to create things. I love what you said about not wanting an unlimited budget as it takes the fun out of things....this is so me. Thank you for sharing....I agree that the description of ISTP's as daredevils doesn't describe me....perhaps it applies more to men.

  • @veeron345
    @veeron345 3 года назад +5

    Lol, this is going to sound weird, but the daredevil side does come out when I have had a few drinks. Otherwise, when sober I'm cautious. The way you described baking is how I view cooking. Discovering new flavors with different ingredients or spices in combination with others, just plain experimenting. I too have so many interests and hobbies, because once I've figured out how to do something I find a new one to learn. When you talked about wood burning, what it feels like and looks like is what I do when I paint pottery or just crayons in a coloring book. I notice I can often do when I feel stressed or not in control of life situations or am feeling stagnate. Needing to slow down my mind and feel grounded. I also played violin, viola, and cello. Anyways, this comment is getting too long now, because I can go on relating to you. I just wanted to tell you it's cool to hear from another ISTP female.

  • @dabbler1166
    @dabbler1166 2 года назад +2

    I have never understood how the ISTP somehow got relegated into being "mechanics" and "good with tools." I have long suspected that this may be wrong. Rather, it may be that:
    "They want to understand how things work" --this is because they have Introverted Thinking which gives them curiosity, and Extroverted Sensing which would be for more real-life physical things, rather than abstract things. They may take apart a clock to see how it works or fiddle with playing drums. It may not be so much they are physical and good at sports as much as simply developing good eye-hand-body coordination. They may be good at surfing. Their introverted thinking got them to figure out timing, when/how to shift their weight, etc. Its NOT like they are all fixing transmissions or being a carpenter. WHO started this whole "good with tools" business, anyway? No one seems to know and its been repeated endlessly.

    I am an istp female too. My hobbies are woodworking (I'm building a sauna from scratch in my backyard), diy things around the home - so recently learnt to sew so I could make curtains. I like looking after a few fruit trees I have growing in pots. I windsurf in summer.
    I think my job is so well suited to my personality - I am a process technician at a lithium processing plant. It's basically finding problems and troubleshooting equipment issues in real time. It's outdoors, active and suits all my strengths, I love it. Took me a while to realise I preferred hands on work because I scored really highly in high school.. so thought it must mean I like intellectual pursuits?! But I failed over and over because I couldn't muster the motivation to complete the work - mostly because it all felt so abstract to me and I couldn't see an exciting end goal.
    Thanks for your video! I think we're really rare as females so it's really nice to hear from others.

    ISTP🙋‍♀️ One big thing I disagreed with you on in another video (I think I can say that without offending, considering our desire for accuracy? Lol) is break ups. NOT easy for me. But I don't necessarily think that's because of our being ISTPs. Probably more from how life experiences have changed us or stubbornness issues in us. Maybe?
    But my hobbies over the years till now...
    •Horseback riding!
    •Bike riding
    •Hiking in the mountains
    •Building things (custom furniture to fit our home's needs, creating large decor pieces, chicken coops, basement playscape, etc.. They've all happened over here, lol)
    •Painting (watercolor, acrylic..not so much walls, but I do that every chance, as well, because... ❤ Home improvement❤)
    •Drawing
    •Mopping my floors (sensory thing about things sticking to my feet 😫)
    •Archery was fun, until I started having kids and not having time (like lost of the rest of this list 😂)
    •Shooting guns
    • I keep running into issues on my sewing machines, or I think I'd be better at that by now. I'm afraid of breaking them trying to take them apart to clean or "service" them. Pulling them out of time is a big fear, lol.
    •Used to bake a lot and get lots of compliments that I never took seriously.
    Am I alone in that, or is that an ISTP characteristic? Not being able to accept compliments?
    Always wanted to learn piano and guitar, but didn't have the resources readily available

    I loved archery, too! But I was only able to do it as part of a session in gym class in high school (we went through a period where we tried a bunch of different sports, spending several classes on each). Moreover, I missed the first class due to being sick, so I didn't get the instructions that I should. I did ... pretty badly at it. If I had been able to join an archery club and really work at it, I think I could have gotten good at it, but that was not available to me at the time. I really wished we could have spent longer on it. It was fun!
    I also find it interesting that you approach baking the way I do poetry. As much as I love to read metered, rhyming poetry, I just can't seem to write it very well. Usually, I do free form. Don't box me in with rules, just lemme express myself however it comes out.
    ... I also would love to have lots of other hobbies, but hobbies typically cost money and having ADHD makes it even harder to settle on or be consistent with anything, so I haven't gotten too far on this.
    PS: I'm also not a risk-taker or adrenaline junkie! I actually hate adrenaline rushes (or, at least, that shaky feeling after). But I perhaps could have gone that way at one time. I loved wall-climbing the one time I got to try it. I kept climbing until I was literally too exhausted to continue. If I had really gotten into it long-term, I might have eventually even done rock climbing. Didn't work out that way, though, and now I'm glad of it, though I think that my health would probably be a little better, haha. I'm a bit outside the stereotypes, myself, given that I tend toward being quite sedentary.
