  • This is the easiest way to cast on in 1 x 1 ribbing when working in the round. The finished edge is a very attractive transition between the pattern on the right and wrong sides. Plus the result is very elastic. It is excellent for top-down socks and bottom up sweaters and sleeves. jamescoxknits.com

I love this method especially for socks. Some projects might be deserving of a tubular CO, but not all. This is a great way to get a neat, tidy CO edge without the hassle of a tubular CO. Thanks so much! ❤

Thanks, have seen that but never have used it. I learnt to knit at age 4.5 y/o and since then have been doing it 65 years. I learnt first the long tail cast on and I knit continental. Continental is much faster since the hands never leave the needles, no extra movements needed. I like the look of the long tail that forms a neat edge, but can see this possibly being stretchier. There are other cats ones also, Chinese Waitress cast on and Latvian cast on that gives a nice decorative edge especially if done in 2 colors.
It is interesting to see that the past 20 years knitting has become much more in fashion. 40 years ago, when I moved here, nobody knitted.
