I'm SOOO happy to see other artists recommending and promoting SAFETY - you discuss fumes - but DO THIS TO PROVE IT TO YOURSELF..... WHEN you are MIXING your resin - take your cup and move near a beam of sunlight. You will see a billion little particles that almost look like "knats" flying around your cup. Those are microscopic resin bubbles floating around!!! The rise in the air and settle in your lungs, nose, eyes in your hair and on your skin - and THEN THEY HARDEN! YIKES! Literally. I know people who deal with severe asthma and allergy issues because they refuse to believe resin is harmful. I appreciate this video. :) Love your channel by the way - new subscriber. :)
Kaivan Askari yes! I have only done resin a couple times on my art channel, and although I love the results I just can't justify the toxicity of it for myself. I'm too sensitive. But I love watching your channel..u have a great teaching style.
So, this probably saved my life...or at least saved me future health garbage. Thank you and God bless you, yours, the OP and anyone reading this. ✌️
Got all the stuff! Man it's expensive to keep safety in mind, but I don't care, it's so damn important
You're welcome Katya it would be more if you had to deal with medical issues
I just started working with resin and while I was wearing a respirator, nitrile gloves, safety glasses, and long sleeves, I wasn't wearing the right filters with my respirator, so the fumes gave me a migraine. Thank you for posting this and showing exactly what to use, safety is so important!
You're welcome Laura. Safety first
+Laura Noejovich Thank you! ❤️
Damn this is literally just posted. I wanted to begin, but maybe I need to rethink it.
That what people need to realize. ....DUST and FUMES are different. Thanks for schooling the masses
Thanks Ron safety is important it's good for others to know. Safety first!
Thanks for talking about the full seal regarding facial hair, its very overlooked or ignored.
This is most important video if you evet work with Bondo resin or any resin. You will save your life if you follow these instructions. 4 hours exposure to Bondo resin fumes is shown as acute toxicity. Thank you Askari!
i was always thinking that epoxy has no particular strong smell/ odour so probably it does not matter, so glad to be educated on this
Thanks so much for sharing resin safety tips! I just ordered the supplies you recommended.
+Julianna G I'm glad Safety is very important!
Thank you for the info! 💜💜💜
Thank you for making this video with precautions, very helpful!!
You're very welcome
Thank you for this video! I'm a polymer clay earrings maker, so this video is super helpful. I can't comprehend how there can be so many polymer clay earrings UV resin tutorials and like 1% of them contain information on safety while using and curing the UV resin.
Earrings with UV resin look great, the shine is amazing and it helps seal smaller details or gold foil. However, I'm still hesitant to start working with UV resin, I'm worried if I should risk my health for a crafts hobby (even with proper safety equipment).
Thank for your insight, it’s going to be very helpful🇨🇦👍
The 2097 filter you showed first does protect against organic vapours as well
I used this during pouring and heat gunning. I took it off and sat in the kitchen 30 minutes to catch drops. Unfortunately that was enough time to cause rashes and rapid heartbeat along with allergy issues. Stone Coat Countertop. It was just a small countertop repour.
Back in 2018 I did a huge amount of pouring resin without anything with very little consequences.
I approve on the nitril gloves.
Thank you so much for the information!
You are so welcome!
Man respirator is an absolute must. When mixing, I'm fortunate enough to have a garage that I open and have a fan on but when sanding, the particals absolutely cover me and to breath all that in would be a nightmare!! Goggles are helpful too. I got particals in my eye while I was sanding a huge chunk of allumilite with an angle grinder and it stung for like 2 days in a row. Stuff is amazing to make projects but absolutely NASTY when it comes to your body lol.
Thank you so much for great information. Merc
You're very welcome khaish mekonam
very nice video!!! good info
Wonderful.
Thank you
Hello, what 3m respirator cartridges would you suggest to use with 2 part epoxy boat paint.
the respirator masks are all out of stock due to covid and probably won't be in stock anytime soon. Do you think I could use a n95 and another cloth mask over it ?
Hello , do thus filters work with polyester resin? Thank you.
This is a really nice video. I use art resin as per the brand it says no VOC & non toxic. But after watching lot of resin safety video I bought a half respirator with Particulate filter cartridge. The thing is when should we replace the cartridge. After using I remove the cartridge & store it in air tight bag
I think you'll know when you use resin. It's harder to breathe in the mask when the cartridge is bad. If you smell resin through mask it's bad. I recommend changing the cartridges every 3 months after moderate use. I wouldn't wait for the mentioned above reasons.
Does the same apply to using polyurethane to coat labels?
I have just been diagnosed with COPD and I want to do resin again, the safe way.
Thank you for posting this video!
Glad it was helpful! Hope you get better!
Dont do it with COPD. DONT DO IT!!!
That is suicide bro, have someone do it for you ..
Can I use the 3M 6003 organic vapour or plastic acid gas cartridge along with a retainer and N95 filter so that I can be protected when I work with resin as well as when I do wood working drilling using power tools to cut wood. I do more of wood work with saw dust flying around and will be doing epoxy resin work less often. I already use two n99 masks one on top of the other for protection from dust...
The filters you mentioned are correct as they block organic vapour. The 60923 has more protection against other materials. I've never combined the two I just change out my vapour gas filters with the Magenta 2091 P100 filter for wood dust.
Hi so it is safe to use the vapor filters during sanding and drilling too ? Or is it best to get both for each thing ? Also is it safe to let the resin cure inside the home ? I will be mixing it and pouring it all outdoors but want to bring it inside after a few hours to cure ?
I would use the different filters for each. Because you don't want to clog up your vapor filters with dust. The resin curing stinks depending on the type of resin.
Can I use 3M 6003 for resin work?
Thank you so much for the info, what about working with resin in an unventilated room? Should I avoid it altogether? If I was to wear safety and protect myself the fumes are still in the room..😵
+Bashayer H.M you need some sort of ventilation.
I have a good few boxes of Vinyl gloves, are they good enough? Also, roughly how long do the 60923 cartridges last? Is there a way to know when they need to be changed? Will smells start to seep through?
Yea your vinyl gloves should work. In regards to the cartridges, it depends on how often and how heavily you use them. But to be safe I would change them out every three to six months. One way of finding out if they work or not is if you start smelling alcohol when you put your mask on. If you start smelling the smell of the isopropyl alcohol then I would recommend changing them out ASAP
Now i know why my throat is messed up. Ive been doing resin for two weeks now and just used the regular filters you showed first.
Do I have to switch out the cartridges when I go from mixing / pouring resin to sanding ?
Yea you can to prevent clogging from the sanding.
Do I have to remove the 60923 filter from the mask after Im done using it? If so, how do I store it? If not... how do I store my mask in general
I never remove mine. I leave mine on. Unless I want to change them for the sanding filter.
If you are not heating the resin and using it for a small project do you think an n95 would be okay?
+Shannon Bell I wouldn't risk it. n95 doesn't protect from vapors. according to the N95 specs and based on resin safety sheet
Thank u for your video!! I almost bought the 60926 3M filter versus the 60923. Is the 60923 better for resin use? Thank you!!
Hi Margie, The 60926 Offers protection against additional gases. I think for Resin use you can use either I've read that both offer protection for resin
60923: Certain Organic Vapors, Chlorine,
Hydrogen Chloride, and Sulfur Dioxide or
Hydrogen Sulfide or Hydrogen Fluoride and
Particulates
60926 filter protects against Certain Organic Vapors, Chlorine, Hydrogen
Chloride, Chlorine Dioxide, Sulfur Dioxide, Hydrogen
Sulfide, Ammonia/Methylamine, Formaldehyde¹ or
Hydrogen Fluoride and Particulates
Perfect!! Thank you so much!!!
3m p100 dust partial filter
Ive been trying to find an answer to my question for a while now but cant seem to. If i use resin indoors in a well ventilated area with protection and then leave the windows/doors open for around 2 hours would that be enough for me to then be sure that the fumes are gone? Sometimes with the weather its just not possible to work outdoors
The danger is when the resin is wet and being applied or dried. That's why you need to wear a respirator mask. Once the resin is dry and the room is ventilated it shouldn't be a threat. It's considered a natural vapor gas when the resin is wet and bonding.
@@AskariArt thank you so much for your reply!! Appreciate it
Hello ! Thanks for the informative video. Just wanna ask if pregnant women can do resin art with all these precautions?
I wouldn't
what would you suggest if i'm sanding down a resin surfboard and then applying polyester/epoxy?
I would use the p100 pink disc filters for the sanding against dust also wear goggles so you don't get the resin dust in your eyes and lungs. Then use the respirator filters when applying the resin
Askari Art thank you i subscribed
Hello!Thank you so much for the information!
I have a question about Organic Vapor Cartridge.
When is the best time to replace them? Every 3month?
It depends on how much you use the mask. If you smell resin when you put you mask on or if it is difficult to breath through the mask it's time to change
@@AskariArt Thank You so much!!!
Hi! Check with your manufacturer of your mask/cartridges for specifics. It's usually recommended to keep your cartridges stored in a sealed container between uses, and keep track of the hours used.
Been using 6051, filters they dont seem to be good enough. going to get the gas filters are see if these are better, they are twice the price. but cant really put a price on saving your health.
Yea make sure they are for Vapour gases.
Would a ‘Multi gas/vapour’ cartridge be suitable or does it have to specifically be an ‘organic vapour’ cartridge only? Thanks sm for this video
As long as the cartridge is the 60926 its pink
@@AskariArt thanks!
@@AskariArt it’s actually 60923 that he recommended in the video. 👍🏻
as long as it says its for organic vapors
what are the actual details of the mask you are using please? and does it come with the filters or are they purchased seperately....thank you
The filter part numbers are provided in the video. The mask part number varies based on size: Here is a link to all the different sizes and the filters. Most people (95%) are Sized Medium according to 3m.
www.amazon.com/shop/kaivanaskari?listId=1NYURWH21IBP1&ref=cm_sw_em_r_inf_list_own_kaivanaskari_dp_9mDwVe7vk1i9W I also have a link in the description below
I’ve tapped on ur Amazon link for the mask/filters and gloves but the link only goes to the supplies u use vs the safety equipment
Sorry Kenia I think when they sell out of it on Amazon it removes it from my list. I need to go back and try to find another link on Amazon.
So I sanded with a stupid respirator that apparently filtered the gas just fine its a 3m 6001 but the stupid particulate filter wasn't included when I thought it was.. how dangerous is this? I wet sanded and only.did a very light sanding but still I'm worried about my lung health
Wet sanding helps reduce dust but I'd always rather be safe than sorry.
Very helpful video, thanks. One thing I am unsure is how often do we need to change the cartridge? Also is there a way to clean it after use? I have got the cartridges you recommend but unsure how to clean them after each use. I would appreciate your response
You can't really clean the cartridges you can whipe the mask down. The replacement of cartridges usually depends on usage. I go by 2 things. If I can smell the resin in my mask when I put it on. I recommend changing. If I find it difficult to breath, like a stuff nose kinda when, I change them. Or you can just change them every 3 months. I don't use mine every day or even every other day so I change mine 6-7 months
@@AskariArt Thank you 😊😊
I’m doing my basement floors no windows or doors in basement..
Will I be safe with proper ppe and having all the windows and doors open upstairs as well as spend a night in. Hotel for the night while drying ?
I would wear a fill face respirator. So it doesn't bother your eyes as well.
Thank you
If I were to use small amounts of resin for a keychain, is it good enough to wear a regular face mask?
For me resin vapors and the gas is still around. I would to be safe especially if you continue to make them.
I was making a tumbler with resin yesterday and i was blowing the bubbles out with a blowing/ dryer type machine and it was taking longer than usual, today i have that annoying itch in my throat… wondering if this will go away if anyone can help me? Google is not helping. Want to know if i should be worried.
That's why I recommend a respirator for resin I would say a full face respirator is best.
Thanks for your precious advices, I just bought some resin to start creating my charms. I have only one question: I'm planning to work outside my house, on a balcony where there's always a lot of wind, do I still need a respiratory or a good mask can fit to work? I don't intend to sand my works but I still have some doubts about pouring😅
+TINTORERA66 I would always use a vapour gas filter and full face respirator for resin use.
@@AskariArt Understood! Thank you very much!👍
I recently had a accidental spill in my work room and got exposed, how long do the fumes last in the air? I have the door closed and the window open
Once the resin hardens (typically 5-6hrs) the fumes should be gone but the smell may remain for days
If you not able to get a serious mask can you use a thick mask with a vent inside?
I wouldn't, you need a respirator that can block vapor gas. Those vent inside masks don't have the correct filter to block that.
That’s it, no more resin or epoxy for me! I feel tingling burning on my hand! I use wrong gloves😖
😮
I don’t have a respirator can I still do resin without one if I work outside and wear a normal facemask like the ones for the pandemic??
I mean I wouldn't recommend it.
@@AskariArt okay thank you
In job we use INTERNATIONAL INTERFILL 830 A + B EPOXY FILLER in huge amount what type of filters I need for my mask I use 3M™ Secure Click™ D8094 ABEK1P3 R is that ok ?
You may have to ask 3M rep about this detail I'm not sure.
i’ve been working for resin a couple times for the last two months without the PROPER mask but i am getting the proper one tomorrow! do you think i can be in serious harm right now?

I been exposed every day for 3 weeks in direct UV resin expoxy fumes
@@wertiaaudit5746 and no symptoms!?
@@Nettie-jt1nv I'm actually non-ironically in terrible health since I took the job but mostly because I eat like shit like a whole box of little caesars plus assessories. I can easily water-fast off my symptoms of a terrible foggy head. It's been recently (2 weeks) that I started feeling ill effect and lots of sleeping. I wear a mask at the machine but sometimes i drink my jug of water and actually breathe in directly the UV resin expoxy fumes which has dirt in it too, totally my fault but I'm stuck at that station and cannot move around at some times due to the fork lifts moving around but i try to drink water outside. water is a universal solvent you know, easy for the fumes to get in it even if the cap of the water jug 1 gallon is open for a second. Lots of the reasons why the direct UV resin expoxy fumes was because it was effecting my critical thinking and thus continued a cycle of repeating the same mistakes no matter how many times i tell myself not to do it again. easy to build bad habits for 6 months straight and forget to repair them . whatever makes me look good when the boss passes by, he loves to see me take out the trash or so I assume. the last guy who was in my place was his son, he was in TERRIBLE health and he left to work at an elemantary school and while he did have pre existing health conditions my mind is like his now, a little foggy and eat terrible, i drink 2 gallons of water a day with salt. to asborb the toxins and expel it outside my body, it hurts my butt and some days i don't do that to heal the last days. my voice speaks like my voice box is coated in UV fumes 24/7. i can resolve my issues with the UV fumes in a manner of 30 days by water fasting but I can't just obtain the displince to finish a water-fast past 3 days, I get too tired. It has effected me but it's not unresolvable for me, I choose to not suffer water-fasting to suffer this fate, terrible choices indeed
will the resin vapers stick to things around your house

The pre filter and filter INSIDE the mounted filter ARE NOT EXPLAINED! how do I know if there is just cotton or carbón active tissue inside????
The 3m filters I recommend are made for vapour and gases protection. I haven't taken apart the filter to see what's inside.

Hey is epoxy still toxic when it's hardend up? I want to make a mouthpiece out of epoxy, so it would be in contact with my resperatory system. Is it dangerous ?
+Korken Auskork usually resin is safe to after dried. people use it for counter tops and cheese boards. but the contact is different than having something in your mouth that you bite down on. I wouldn't take the risk for something like that.
@@AskariArt so as long as you are mit chewing on it its supposed to be safe? Thanks for the quick answer!
Yea, I use a mouth piece for BJJ and over time you tend to chew on it. But those are plastic too which I'm not sure if that's good for you either. Please keep me informed if you make one and try it. I'm very curious
@@AskariArt i'm going to make a mouthpiece for a hookah. It's going to be Out of peach Wood that has holes in it. The Resin is going to plug those holes. And just to be extra Sure i'll coat the inside of the mouthpiece with beewax. At least that's the plan for now
@@korkenauskork6331 don't use resin for smoking, the heat is not good
when epoxy is cured, is it still dangerous and poisonous ?
+ACC QPQP no I don't believe so it's only when when wet and curing. it releases gasses
@@AskariArt shit
Is it dangerous after it hardens?
No it's not after it hardens.
I had heard about the dangers to lungs and epoxy a while ago but I've q been watching a lot of tik tok and resin tumblers are huge on there. There are a few people making them on lives and nobody wears a mask. I have fancied started doing the tumblers and when I asked why they don't wear a mask they just say its personal preference. I wondered if it was because of the small amount of epoxy they were using didn't really make a difference but having watched your video I now think they are really risking their health. They make these tumblers with epoxy on live, put ink colours on then use a blow torch to move the colours on it, then less than a foot away they have about 5 tumblers spinning, air drying. This is dangerous right?
I would say so because the vapour gas resin releases as it's drying isn't good.
Ultimately it's your choice, I wanted to let people know since no one talks about safety regarding this type of medium for artists
@@AskariArt thanks for replying. I still think it's a crazy risk so if I did start doing the tumblers, I'd want to be protected. You only get one pair of lungs 😘
I bought an epoxy kit that says no vocs and says nontoxic is this a safer option I was thinking of starting a resin business
I've never seen epoxy with no vocs. What is the brand name? I'd like to look them up
@@AskariArt sigwong epoxy resin kit
@@AskariArt I want to start a small resin business but I want to make sure it’s not dangerous or will affect my health in a bad way otherwise it’s not worth it thanks for your time.
Unfortunately it doesn't look like that this epoxy is made in the United States or Europe. Therefore they do not provide an SDS or MDS I would not trust a company that does not provide or have this type of sheet. It could mean that it may be more dangerous than resin that's made here. I would not take the risk and still wear safety equipment. But I would not buy resin and it does not have an SDS supplied that is registered in the United States or Europe
From experience I have never seen a resin that did not have vocs. A lot of resins say they're non-toxic in their natural form after they've dried. But when you start adding paint and other pigment to it it changes the nature of resin therefore making it toxic If you're planning to eat off of it or from it. But in regards to the chemical reaction that happens when you mix two parts of resin there is always VOCs and it's not worth the risk.
What if I strictly work on projects outside with resin? Do I still need a mask?!
I wouldn't risk it fumes and vapor gas are still around you. I just wouldn't risk it. It's not worth your health
@@AskariArt I'll continue looking for a good respirator then, thank you for the input! I haven't been able to see any info on it when searching online. This was super helpful!
I work outside with resin. I use a N95 mask & gloves and the second I've poured and happy with it I leave it outside to cure for 12-20 hours and stay away from that area
Do I need respirator masks i i am doing small resin keychains like hearts and hair clips ? But i’mplanning to do it outside. Is n95 mask fine ?
I honestly wouldn't risk it. The fumes and vapor gas released from the resin no matter the size.
I see many 'woodworker' vids about the epoxy table craze that has occurred over the last several years, but none of these people (or most of these people) wear any type of safety masks, etc. Makes you wonder why...??
I'm not sure why they aren't using respirators. Some of the table wood makers use cast resin which allows pours in thicker layers. The drying time is longer. Most Resins have SDS sheets to tell you the safety concerns
Can i use N95 mask instead of respirator?
+algyd oh no please do not as an n95 will not filter vapor gas.

I'm confused.. Which size i want to buy. Is there any free size
Medium is what most people use. The one I use is medium
@@AskariArt i am working with polyester resin works. So, how long we can use these filters or catridges or what is the validity of these filters. When are these filters should replaced and buy new one?
@@aravinda4387 it depends on the amount of use. I change mine out every 6 months now but I don't use resin as much as I used to. I used to change them out every 3 months when I was using resin 2-3 times a week for couple hours a day. If you smell resin inside the mask, that is past time to change them, if you detach a filter and smell resin very strong inside the opening of the cartridge you should change it. Most important test is if you put your respirator on and you have trouble or difficulty breathing that means the filters are clogged and should be changed.

I actually would recommend the full face over half face respirator. It's more expensive but helps protect your eyes as well. I typically use goggles or safety glasses with the half face.
Hi! Will my 3M 6001 still do the job? Thanks!
I believe it is an organic vapour cartridge I typically use the more filtration for added safety and duration
Hi sir, I was wondering.. can we use the face mask we were using right now in the pandemic?

Hii there!!
Can I do resin art in my balcony? Is it harmful for my neighbours?

As long as your wearing a respirator.i think so. People in the balconies probably won be affected they would be far from it. Resin on a balcony creates other issues like moisture in air, ideal temperature an dust and bugs.
@@AskariArt thank u so much fr ur reply 💟
Is it better not to use resin at all? I want to make resin art but certainly not at the cost of my health. If I wear the mask you recommended is there still a risk from resin? I mean does the mask make using resin a 100% or at least 99% safer?? Or is it still not a good idea to dabble in this hobby?
If you use a full face mask of this mask to even protect eyes and gloves you'll be alot safer than not using anything like most people. Nothing is 100% but you know you're not breathing this in. The Mask will protect you from the vapors if the seal is completely covering your mouth and you dont have facial hair etc.
@@AskariArt If I wear a half mask and then separate goggles is that ok too? And can the goggles be swimming ones? 😅
I usually double up with latex gloves but has anyone else noticed they start smoking when they get too much resin on them?
I stopped using Latex. Try using Nitrile gloves
@@AskariArt Maybe you can help answer another question... When I lay matted material, how do I keep the tiny bubbles from showing through on my finished surface? Im spending WAY too much time dremeling them out. Its has to be a glassy, pristine surface. Ive tried the roller but it only helps a little.
@@Flamingpenguin88 I typically use a torch or a heat gun to get all the bubbles out before the resin dries. But when you're mixing the two components to make resin, you want to make sure you don't mix it too violently because that's how the air gets trapped. I usually mix the resin with my hand slowly without getting air trapped in the resin in the beginning and it takes you longer to get the air out with a blowtorch or a heat gun
@@AskariArt Ill have to try the heat gun. Im using an ISO-Poly resin with MEKP catalyst. I stir them with a tongue depresser. After its mixed I wet my back cast with a paint brush then sprinkle some hair in the corners before I start laying the mat material.
Hi! I used a mask Similar to yours but I didn't use a suit and got hives all over my arms which spread everywhere :(
Second time I didn't use any protection except gloves and now hives are happening again :( not good
Are you using nitrile or latex gloves. I've seen people allergic to latex
Not sure. I used gloves that I have for work. But the hives starts on my neck (skin was exposed to Fumes) and my forearms. Both times absolutely no hives on my hands. First time I did touch the wet resin, second time wore gloves the whole time. Reckon I can wear full body Chem suit and masks and gloves and shoes to do it 😂? I brought heapppppa of stuff to do resin
No wonder I feel deathly ill right now.

Can i use a normal mask🙂
What do you mean by a normal mask? I only recommend a respirator because resin releases a vapour gas that a regular mask won't filter out?
