  • I now wear a full face respirator. I would like to do an updated safety video as there are things i'd like to better cover. Please visit the facebook page "epoxy resin is not my friend" for some detailed information about resin and resin allergies.
    ✦ DISCLAIMER ✦
    Overexposure to epoxy resin can cause long term and short term respiratory issues, headaches, dermatitis and developed allergies. Please take resin safety seriously!
    I am not an expert in resin. Information provided through the video is what I use while using resin and have researched as being the best and safest options for me. Please read the safety instructions provided with your own brand of resin and craft related products as instructions may vary. Regulations pertaining to epoxy resin use will vary from country to country. Safety equipment used in this video meet the AS/NZS regulation requirements.

    I'm really glad you made this video. I know you're supposed to use a few precautions, but until I saw this I never fully looked into it. I've been using UV resin around my family and pet parrots for the last couple months and after looking it up I see that it's bad that I have. I feel so dumb that I wasn't more careful.

    hey love your videos! i have a question! ive seen lots of videos where people recommend wearing a respirator but is it necessary when youre doing sownthing small? im panning on making hair clips so the mold to make them is small. i would just use use a regular make and do it outdoors? Is this safe ?

    • @SeriouslyCreative
      @SeriouslyCreative  4 года назад +1

      Hey thank you! There will be fumes regardless of the size. Doing it outside will definitely help eliminate fumes. I always recommend wearing a filtered mask as that is what is considered safe, but you can make your own choices :)

    Great post - love having all the safety info in one place.
    One concern of mine is pets. I don’t have my cats in the same room while I’m working with crafts, but how strong are the fumes? I know if I use acetone in my basement workshop, mom complains about the scent getting upstairs; is this a concern for resin, or should the scent dissipate well enough with an open (admittedly tiny) window and fan? Also, my workshop used to be my dad’s woodworking shop, and there’s a large air filtration thing hanging on the ceiling-I’m now assuming this is something I should have turned on when I start using resin? 😬
    Thanks! 😃

    • @SeriouslyCreative
      @SeriouslyCreative  4 года назад +4

      Yeah definately use the filtration system! I think the kitties will be fine, its really only hazardous in small unventilated areas for long periods of time. Don't be alarmed at using resin! As long as the area is well ventilated you'll be fine 😊

      The biggest issue is the fumes getting into your eyes also. So you need goggles that seal to your face without ventilation. Resin can seriously damage your eyes, too

    I love watching your videos and this really helped! I just started doing resin charms and I ordered a double filter mask because the smell was starting to give me headaches. I did notice a big difference when I wore my new mask rather than just a regular face mask, but is it normal to smell just a little bit of the resin when I get close to it, or should I not smell it at all?

    • @SeriouslyCreative
      @SeriouslyCreative  4 года назад +1

      Hey im glad they've helped! Yes sometimes i can still smell it a little bit, i try to hold the mask on my face so i can't smell it. But also, you get side effects from long term exposure so being exposed to it a little bit won't be harmful xx

    • @SeriouslyCreative

    There are some of the questions i want to ask:
    -Can we use the mask you used first while making the molds?
    -What if, we won't wear glasses?
    -How much time goes to resin get harder? (i mean to be able to get off the mold)
    -Is the ventilator able to delete the smell of epoxy resin?
    -Can we color resin with pearl powder pigment?
    -Can we make the molds outside?
    -What if the shaker we will make gonna fail?
    -What type of the gloves we can use? (Vinyl or Nitril?, i don't know if i am writing this right)
    -What will Happen if we add diy stickers to resin?
    -Can we add dried grass to the mold?
    -Is (your) upgraded mask inportnant?
    -Can children under 13 years old make something from resin? (if the child know how to use epoxy resin and know the rules of safety)
    Thats it, i can add more if an idea will go to my head.

      Resin does not produce fumes once it is fully cured (can take weeks depending on the brand) and there is no such thing as food safe resin (ie. preparing, serving or eating food off.). So in y our case, straw toppers should be fine to make with resin because it is not touching your mouth or the drink.

Am I okay to still do resin with the space I have? I mean I would do it outside, but I live in the country where the bugs, dirt, etc are constantly around so things would just fly into my resin. I run the purifier every time I do resin and keep it on for hours after I finish up. I leave the room & don't return until 10 hours after the resin has had time to cure. Hello I have a question is UV resin safer than epoxy resin

    • @SeriouslyCreative
      @SeriouslyCreative  4 года назад

      Its probably about the same! They both have chemical reactions that created fumes.

    Is it safe to stay in the same room without protective gear while the resin is drying in the silicone molds?

      Wondering the same.

      Did you find any answer?

    • @deliadelia5767
      @deliadelia5767 2 года назад

      @@mertt4367 yes, it’s highly recommended to have the protective hear (glasses, gloves, mask will filters, etc) while you put the resin in the mold and it’s not recommended to stay in the same room with the mold while it hardens. The best is to let if harden in a different environment that is ventilated, than yours. Safety first.

    There are sooo many respirators and different cartridges. I've been doing research all day trying to figure it out lol 😭

      I actually use a full face respirator now, you need to have organic vapour filters

    Should I still use a mask if I’m doing it outside

    Do i need a mask if im using non toxic resin?

    • @SeriouslyCreative
      @SeriouslyCreative  4 года назад +2

      Theres no such thing as non toxic resin and if they claim they are non toxic they are usually referring to the fully cured state.

    • @SeriouslyCreative

      So yes I'd probably still recommend wearing a mask but really its up to you 😊

    the type of reaction you are referring to is an exothermic reaction. the two parts of the resin when mixed together generate heat. With the heat generated it creates fumes which in high enough concentration can lead to breathing and lung related problems. exposure to the skin my result in acute contact dermatitis or chronic contact dermatitis with the former being more serve but short live normally lasting while exposer is taking place. the latter is a more long term condition, it is not as serve but last for prolong periods of time.
    there are newer resin products on the market that have a much lower exothermic reaction and have less chance of exposure to harmful fumes. you should always read the product safety information before using any chemical product and follow the guidelines of the manufacturer.

      Thanks Garry. I'm actually in the process of making a new resin safety video as i feel like this one is a bit outdated now.
