I have had my hedgehog for a week now and I thought she just needed to be bonded with me, but turns out she is actually going through quilling. I have seen most hedgehogs that go through quilling who are very grumpy but she is still sweet and rarely curls into a ball. When she is done quilling I can already tell she is going to be a very relaxed hedgehog.
I got my hedgehog a week ago and now whenever I am about to go to sleep he will sit and look at me until I go and pick him up and I am so happy 😊 he is comfortable around me
For me, baths were a big part of bonding. She didn't like the water, so she had to keep her head up and keep uncurled. She couldn't bite me😂 since my hands were under the water and she didn't want to get her face wet. I moved the water around a bit so she got used to movement. Now when she is in an uncomfortable spot, she sort of sees my hands as a safe haven. We still have a while to go, but she's much better. 😁😂
I am so new to this and I got my hedgehog at a very awkward time in my life so the only bonding we could do in the beginning was lap snuggles for an hour or so every evening. Now that I am well I really want to amp up our bonding time and nature. We snuggle and she loves to cuddle in my hair in a snuggle sack I knitted. But I can't help but feel I need to do more. Thank you for your tips. I want to bring her outside and with me as an animal ambassador to my students. Now I know and feel encouraged to do so. My heart is overwhelmed with joy at the thought of my little girl. Thank you so much for all your guidance!
I took on a hedgehog whose previous owner was allergic to him so he was never handled. Although still quite Huffy, with the help of your videos he has come a long way. Thank you so much x
@@unfinishedfruitloops7348 well she died from a heart attack but i got her to stop biting by just continuing to handle her after she bit me (ik it hurts but you gotta get used to it) so she realized there was no point and stopped
I know this video is from a while ago now, but it's really helped me. I got my first hedgehog, Coco about a year ago, and the whole time I had a hard time bonding with her. No matter what, she seemed like she was much happier to be left alone and freaked out when I handled her. I've stuck with it though, and here lately, she's finally started to trust me. She just needed more time than what I thought to come around. This video helped me realize that Coco didn't "hate me" or anything, but just needed to accept me at her own pace.
I want to thank you so much the 'bag bonding' reallyy helped to bring my hedgehog out of his shell and trust me. i can now walk around my house in a backwards hoodie with him in the hood. he now eats from my hand. he now waits for me to feed him then we usually snuggle. He used to be so scared and balled up at the slightest movement now only sudden loud noises and movements scare him. You have helped me so much and once again thank you.

Just got my first Hedgie, my little girl, Harriet, was handled everyday by the breeder and is the sweetest little girl, even trying to climb up my shirt and licking me while I held her, but I definitely noticed that last night she only ate a little and was only on her wheel for a few minutes before hiding UNDER her bed 😂 thank you so much for helping me out even years after this went up while I get her adjusted!
Thank you so much for all of your videos! A friend who works at a vet clinic got in contact with me recently about a re-home situation. I'm very experienced with snakes, but have never kept a hedgehog. Out of all the resources I've reviewed to make sure I can take the best care of them, yours have been the best I've found in terms of information and also easy to understand.
I just got a hedgehog today and he’s a baby. His name is Sammy and he’s the sweetest thing ever. He’s very comfortable with me ‘manhandling’ him and he is very accepting with being in my hands. I’m already petting him over the quill side. He has three legs because when he was with his breeder, at some point, his leg got twisted because it got stuck on a bad material. He’s still super active and such a trooper. Such a snuggle bug 🦔 💕

I bought mine less than a week ago, and she is absolutely adorable. She likes exploring new things and places. I worked with her for hours now, and now she's already used to me that much to the point when she smells my finger, she instantly pulls her quills down. She uses me as her safe space, so she will walk around a bit, but eventually she ends up under my legs or arms if I'm laying on stomach, and sniffs me. She is not so confident with other people that much, and will eat usually only from my hand, and not from other people. If I put my shirt in my lap, and put her on it, she will crawl in it and fall asleep. I can keep you guys updated if you are interested, or if you have some questions about it feel free to ask. I got my little spikey boy a week ago and he's still huffing at first but is settling pretty quickly. The one thing that seems to have him super relaxed in my presence is my hair. I have relatively long hair, not quite as long as Tori's in this video, but enough that he can nestle in it. I either lie down or reclined against a sofa and he will scuffle up to my shoulder and sit on it after having a little burrow into my hair. He's actually doing it right now as I type, it's the sweetest thing because his quills aren't really hurting me (sure the odd little stab but nothing bad) and I can hear his little snuffles. I think he quite likes listening to my voice when he's by my throat because I like to hum for him. So yeah, humming and hair. :)
Love watching your vlogs to see how sweet hedgehogs can be. I purchased mine over a year ago, have followed your videos religiously and did my research beforehand, but alas, even after a year, he rarely stops curling up and huffing when held and packs a mean bite. He will constantly try and bite (where skin is taken off and blood is drawn), every single time I hold him. It's unfortunate because I did everything 'right' and unfortunately it seems this is just the way he's going to be.
I'm so sorry to hear that! It's rare, but sometimes there are hedgehogs who just never quite reach the "breakthrough" point, which is a massive bummer.

Your videos are still super helpful. I thought my male baby hedgehog was cranky but I recently took I a female who was never handled. She's not bad but she's a grump and I get discouraged sometimes so I just rewatch these bonding videos. Huge help
I am getting a hedgehog and I was looking at videos on how to play with him and bond with him and this is like the only one that was really helpful to me
I have been watching your videos like crazy! My boyfriend and I are planning on adopting our hedgie in about a month when we move and I will be a first time owner. My boyfriend had a hedgie several years ago but we are both learning so much from your amazing videos! Thanks for posting all of these!
Gotta say. Your videos are helping me and hedgewick. So far, she keeps her quills down when I go to pick her up and she'll sit in my.lap when I play my games
I’ve wanted a hedgehog for so long and had done a ton of research on them. My parents didn’t really want to get me one tho. Recently my neighbour got one and I’m completely used to the quills and since I’m now 19... well, in 2 days I’m going to pick her up! I bought her myself (along with everything for her) and my parents were cool with that because she’s my responsibility not theirs!
I'm getting a hedgie in a few weeks when he's old enough to leave his mama. And I would love to bring him with me when I go out for his food, but I'm worried cause it's pretty cold here (or at least to cold for him) outside, and I get that you'll have to put him in a snugglesack or something but I don't know how long it'll be possible for him to stay outside

Hi I have a question so me and my brother are going to get a hedgehog 🦔 And cause we can’t keep two in a cage we’re just gonna get 1 so we wanna use the piece of Clothing in the cage trick but sense there 2 of us we wanna now if we can put two pieces together in the cage and if it won’t confuse the hedgehog?
I’ve got my hedgehog a few days ago and I’m having trouble trying to pick him up and bond with him. Am i doing something wrong? Or i should just leave him for a week first and start bond with him after??
Thanks so much Tori every single one of your videos has really helped me with my new hedgehog she is going to have a week with me tomorrow... i can't wait to touch her and carry her every where with out her hitting from me, she is still scared of me, what can i do so that she doesn't get scared?
I got my hedgehog from someone who was rehoming her because she wasn’t friendly. They couldn’t have had her very long as she is only 4 months. I’ve only had her 2 days and she’s already gotten way better. At first she hissed and popped non stop and now she already letting me pick her up and she won’t roll into a ball and she’ll run around on me she generally just really improving.
I got an albino hedgehog cuz no one wanted it and im seeing if they more sensitive or the same as the other ones but i make sure he avoids sun cuz im scared if something happens to me but he loves to wonder around
Being a first time hedgehog owner and honestly I’m on day two and I’m struggling to even had her allow me to pick her up. I’m slowing trying to get her used to my scent and voice and this video was a saver 🥺 I get a bit bummed out when I can’t hold her because I want her to continue being used to being held but I do get nervous that she’ll get scared of me and won’t let me near her at all
I just recently bought a pair of hedgehog, an albino female and a grey male... the female is so sweet, while my male is so grumpy... Anyways your hedgehog vidoes are awesome and helpful :)
I’ve owned a hedgy before but he passed recently. I got another baby, but her personality is very very different from my last boy and bonding with her is more difficult, so here I am for some tips :)
Me and my hedgehog kiwi are trying to bond XD Ive had him for about 4-5 months and for me its quite a struggle to get the motivation to get him out of his cage. I am watching these types of videos so I get motivation!
My boyfriends hedgehog never uncurls for us. He always balls up whenever he senses one of us is near him. He’s not quilling and is maybe two months old at this point ? What can we do???
I got a new hedgie and he's quite grumpy. Now that i heard you took a whole year with one, makes me feel a bit better about mine not relaxing after three weeks (yeah, I'm a newcomer). I'm handling it daily and hope he will eventually get used to me!
I got a hedgehog recently a month ago 🙂 I am useing theese tips because my hedgehog and I are struggling with each other 😅 I see she has gotten more tame since i got her 💛 So hopfully she will get tame 🥰 But they loads of work too 🤣 I am getting quite used to it 🤣 But I really love her 😊
i know this video is old, but help! i got one yesterday for my birthday after wanting one for two years, he’s terrified. only has uncurled from his ball once in the bathtub but anytime someone made noice he went underwater into his ball. what can i do to improve! i hold him in a blanket and put him on my bed as much as possible :)
Kaelan-Lee Gillis make sure you let him sniff you before you pick him up and just let him crawl on you and don’t be scared to pick him up he just needs to get used to you :)
My hedgehog bites and it is hard to bond with him. He has had a couple of owners prior to us. We are patient with him but find it hard not knowing if he will bite and he never gets out of the ball. It has been a few months not going to give up.
I'm in a similar situation. I just got a girly from my friend who had her for a couple years and barely handled her, so shes really really scared. she hisses, puffs up, and bites. how has your bonding process been? I really feel bad and want to make her comfortable with me. I just hope it's not too late in the game to make her get acclimated to human contact.
@@pascia3417 Still little change, we tend to give him lots of treats and do our best to give him space. We will bring him out of the cage to let him run around the house. We wear gloves with him, I know we shouldn't but we have been bitten once too many times for our liking. We are patient with him and hopefully, he will come around.
Not to long ago I got a hedgehog we haven’t bought a heater for her yet but she loves cuddles or at least I think she does. Anyways is it normal for them to just lay down and sleep in your arms?
I’ve had my hedgehog for a couple months and I take her out everyday for an hour but she’s really shy and is like your hedgehog and gets really stressed when I’m even just near her
I just got my hedgehog, and he is really scared and agitated. whenever I try to touch him or even make a noise he will raise his quills and start huffing. Does anyone have any tips to try and get him more used to me? Because I am worried I am doing something wrong.
don’t worry your not doing anything wrong, just get your hedgehog used to noise by taking it out not daily, but once in a while, turn on the tv, and maybe talk to him. make sure to do it slowly (don’t rush it) and then little do you know, he will get used to the sound :) when it comes to you holding him, make sure you let em sniff you so way he gets used to your scent. i’m sure you’ll do great, make sure to stay consistent!
Hi!, Hope you doing well. I just adopted a abandoned hedgie yesterday.. she basically is mad all time, and make agry noises, as being so deffensive, i cannot get closer, just when I feed her. :/ I can't even imagine picking her up. :'(
I've heard you should leave them in their cage and not handle them until a week after you get them so they can get used to their new home. Is this true??
+Crystal Dreams No, you definitely want to handle them right away. :) Hedgehogs don't need acclimation time in that way - days without human contact can make them regress into a really fearful state and delay bonding.
I've heard various times, I think it depends on the individual hedgehog. I plan to get let my guy get used to his new cage for the first twenty four hours and leave him alone OR if he seems chill take him out right away.
Thank you I didn’t know having gloves was a problem she got much better immediately when I took them off and put my hands near her so she could get my sent
I've heard differences in opinion but, should you leave your hedgehog alone for the first few days? Or can you go ahead and handle them right after getting them?
I'm of the opinion that they should be handled immediately. Hedgehogs don't benefit from time alone as it inhibits their ability to adjust to you at the same time they're adjusting to their new home. :)
A carrier is always a good choice but it is up to you what you bring it home in. Plastic carriers are the safest for traveling in case of car accidents.

Your videos have been really helpful! I’m getting a hedgehog for Christmas so I’ve been watching a lot of videos for it and I like your videos the best! Thanks! :)
Your videos are still super helpful. I thought my male baby hedgehog was cranky but I recently took I a female who was never handled. She's not bad but she's a grump and I get discouraged sometimes so I just rewatch these bonding videos. Huge help
I am getting a hedgehog and I was looking at videos on how to play with him and bond with him and this is like the only one that was really helpful to me
Thx you very much I just got a male hedgehog 🦔 named turbo and I really wanted to bond with him right away he’s so docile and and really cute
You are so lucky my hedgehog is not so friendly right now!!! Thank you for this video!!🦔🦔🦔
I have been watching your videos like crazy! My boyfriend and I are planning on adopting our hedgie in about a month when we move and I will be a first time owner. My boyfriend had a hedgie several years ago but we are both learning so much from your amazing videos! Thanks for posting all of these!
This is soo helpful to bond with my new hedgehog hazel 👩🏽❤️🦔
It's really only recommended to take hedgehogs outside if it is 72-80 degrees.
I just got a hedgehog for Christmas and this was very helpful thx
My hedgehog has a biting habit, so I wear gloves to protect my fingers when I'm handling him. Any tips to try and stop his biting habit?
Your shirt and passion for hedgehogs have something in common: LOVE BITES 🤣

I get to take my hedgehog home in 4 days, and I’m so excited:)
I just got a 7 week hedgehog loving the videos.
Your videos are so helpful! They really make me feel comfortable and confident in myself with my prickly boy. Also, your lip color is fabulous c:
Just got a quill baby for my fiance and I, very helpful to know I was on the right track with how I was handling and bonding with him
Hi I have a question so me and my brother are going to get a hedgehog 🦔

Clothing in the cage trick but sense there 2 of us we wanna now if we can put two pieces together in the cage and if it won’t confuse the hedgehog?

Lottie Spurgin dead
I’ve got my hedgehog a few days ago and I’m having trouble trying to pick him up and bond with him. Am i doing something wrong? Or i should just leave him for a week first and start bond with him after??
Can you take hedgehogs outside to play on the grass and stuff
Ok will whenever I want to call my hedgehog down I have to sing to him THE WHOLLLLLLLEEEEEEEE time it's soooooooo annoying but kinda cute!
Thanks so much Tori every single one of your videos has really helped me with my new hedgehog she is going to have a week with me tomorrow... i can't wait to touch her and carry her every where with out her hitting from me, she is still scared of me, what can i do so that she doesn't get scared?
My Bella loves getting up under my hair and she gets all snuggled up 🥰
As i watch this my hedgehog amy is taking a nap on me
I’m getting an albino hedgehog! What’s a good name “he’s a male” I was thinking about Arthur but I dunno
Noodle?
I have an albino hedgehog, and I named him Silver. Other names could be “Snow” or something. I’m sorry I’m late lol.
Maybe like mozzarella or some type of cheese name idk lol
uhh I’m really late but Elijah? sorry idk
I’m getting a hedgie next week and I’m soooooo excited!!🦔
How is it going?
I'm getting my pokey boi in 5 months I am excited
oo only 2 months to go
Your voice calms my hedgehog down! Help!😂🤣
I got a hedgehog recently a month ago 🙂 I am useing theese tips because my hedgehog and I are struggling with each other 😅 I see she has gotten more tame since i got her 💛 So hopfully she will get tame 🥰 But they loads of work too 🤣 I am getting quite used to it 🤣 But I really love her 😊
i know this video is old, but help! i got one yesterday for my birthday after wanting one for two years, he’s terrified. only has uncurled from his ball once in the bathtub but anytime someone made noice he went underwater into his ball. what can i do to improve! i hold him in a blanket and put him on my bed as much as possible :)
how has it been? I just got mine too, and shes already like 3 years old and hasn't been handled by her previous owner much.
So I just got my hedgehog an hour ago, and he hates me. Help!
Kaelan-Lee Gillis make sure you let him sniff you before you pick him up and just let him crawl on you and don’t be scared to pick him up he just needs to get used to you :)
@@avarydell5621 thank you!
@@byronkobialko3442 aww well thank you for sharing with me. some take more time than others
Not to long ago I got a hedgehog we haven’t bought a heater for her yet but she loves cuddles or at least I think she does.
Anyways is it normal for them to just lay down and sleep in your arms?
Yes
Had my girl a few weeks now, great channel! ☺️👍🏻
@@noemilu9178 Thank you sooo much my hedgehog is starting to get more used to me and let me pick him up!!! thanks for the help
I’m trying to learn as much as I can so if I get a hegie I will be very ready😁
Thank you for your hedgehog videos!!!
Hi!, Hope you doing well. I just adopted a abandoned hedgie yesterday.. she basically is mad all time, and make agry noises, as being so deffensive, i cannot get closer, just when I feed her. :/ I can't even imagine picking her up. :'(
how is she now? I have a similar situation and am worried :(
Thank you for all the info I am a proud new owner of a hedgehog, your videos help us, newbies, in the Hedgie-Game.
PuPibbleHedgie Thank you! I just heard that leaving them alone was better, but I won't do that!
I've heard various times, I think it depends on the individual hedgehog. I plan to get let my guy get used to his new cage for the first twenty four hours and leave him alone OR if he seems chill take him out right away.
Amara Beganny no
Thank you I didn’t know having gloves was a problem she got much better immediately when I took them off and put my hands near her so she could get my sent
But what if they try to bite you
I've heard differences in opinion but, should you leave your hedgehog alone for the first few days? Or can you go ahead and handle them right after getting them?
I'm of the opinion that they should be handled immediately. Hedgehogs don't benefit from time alone as it inhibits their ability to adjust to you at the same time they're adjusting to their new home. :)
I was hoping you would say that because I'm already so excited to spend time with him it would have been hard for me to wait anyway :) Thanks!
what are some good tips on convincing my parents to let me get a hedgehog???
I'm getting a hedgehog on saturday It's about a 2 hour drive.. When we are bringing it home should I just hold it or get something like a carrier?
A carrier is always a good choice but it is up to you what you bring it home in. Plastic carriers are the safest for traveling in case of car accidents.
I hold hem on my lap and hands I also have a bonding bag he loves it he will peek he's head out and he comes out on my lap and outside .
