Tori!! I know you most likely will not respond but my family has a problem. We’re getting a hedgehog next week and at the end of this month we had a three day vacation planned… Just a little short thing… I don’t want to miss bonding time and I don’t know what to do... bringing it is out of the question… Do you think it’s OK to leave it to one of my friends to come and check on it and stuff… I just want to make sure it gets all the care he needs while we’re gone....
I have some questions ! And i will be greatful if you could respond ! 1. How much did it cost ? 2. Where did you get it from ? 3. What breed is it? Ty !
Tell me about it. I got a hedgehog, his previous owner gave him to her 12 year old who only had interest for a week then stopped holding him all together. He is over a year old now and it is so difficult to get him to bond because he's not used to it
Raylyn Hillier I just got a hedgehog, It’s really not used to me, I’ve let him settle in for around 3 days he won’t let me pick him up but I’m going to keep on trying
Raylyn Hillier i has the same problem it’s crazy how often you see these things. this 11 year old stopped handling him because she got “bored” and the dad had to care for him but all he had in the cage was bedding, a hiding place and a broken wheel. it made me quite upset. when he came to us in our home i had to wash him because he smelled so horrible they didnt even wash/ clip his nails at ALL. but i’m so glad he’s with us now and he’s been here two weeks adjusting well and loving his new wheel :) you guys have to just be persistent and patient with handling them as they aren’t used to it. also if you guys have any tips on how to get them to get used to you better please let me know!

It’s gonna be so much work to get him to the point I naturally had with my first boy but it’ll be so rewarding. I hope he doesn’t give me too much trouble

Been doing a lot of research because I'm seriously looking into getting a hedgehog and your videos are so helpful! Have to say I also love how adamant you are on working with their needs and personalities. Hi Tori. I have been watching your video for quite some times.. good stuff... just wondering, how you actually consider a hedgehog a tame hedgehog? Because my hedgehog when i get him around 2 months, he was not that defensive and just exploring around. sometimes becoming a ball when he is shocked. 3 weeks of adopting him, my hedgehog start to sleep in the floor between my legs. However, when I hold him just to do what normally people do in IG post like rubbing his belly, etc and put it in a cup. he just would not stay calm most of the time.. is my hedgehog consider tame but some hedgehog just would not do like those IG hedgehog?
Hi I know I’m not Tori Lynn but as an experienced hedgehog owner I would say your hedgehog is tame, and it’s pretty normal for hedgehogs to more comfortable on the ground rather than in the air. I would suggest just giving it time and generally the more often and longer you’ve done it, the more he’ll get used to it. Where did you get your hedgehog? If it’s from a pet store it makes sense because they don’t get handled very often so aren’t used to it. If it’s a breeder and you’re still having issues with calming him down even after a few months, then I might suggest contacting the breeder and asking them how often they handled him.
I really love your videos they have been really really helpful ! So I had to subscribe and say this lol I’m not sure if you’ll see this but thanks for making all these videos ✌🏼
Can they go out in the grass? Of course if I'm right there? Our first hedgie was neglected and had fleas which made him miserable of course. We got that taken care of at the vet and now have 2 more, but haven't taken them out due to being scared this could happen again. However, they love to roam and explore and I think they'd really enjoy being out :).
I don't know why, but I was giggling all over when you said "don't smoosh down!" My hedgie, who is pretty tame for a hedgehog, will not allow anyone to touch his face. We've worked on it for years at this point, but he just nopes out of it. I'm accepting of this. It's just who he is. 😊
i get my female hedgehog in about 2 weeks from a place like 4 hours away and i’m so nervous she’s gonna be my first of hopefully many (over the years def not all at once) i’m so excited they’re my favorite animals

My brother got me a hedgehog yesterday. Luckily, the lady he bought him from was very good with him, and gave me a printed care sheet for him, but he's very shy, and makes demonic noises, but I'm watching your videos to get the best information I can. Thank you!
@@smcalpha It's going pretty good! He's still a little shy, but he doesn't mind me being there. I gave him one of my shirts, and he sleeps in it all the time. He's a little grumpy still, but we're making progress
okay so i really really want a hedge hog but i go to florida on vacation a lot (i live in iowa) so i wouldn’t be able to bring him with me, we sometimes go from spring break, thanksgiving, and we always go for a month during the summer...we have someone come up everyday to care for our many other pets (dogs, cats, a bunny, guinea pigs, etc) is there any way i could make this work, please help!
I was doing well until pandemic, just got back to handling her more again at night. Good thing is she's very bug food driven. I have a new bigger enclosure for her to explore tonight and dogs not home.
Mine stays by my bed😂 and i have a pillow he likes to root around in. And im glad taking him outside is ok! I work so much and Iggy is a rescue. Literally found in the neighborhood. So im learning as i go. Thank you for the info!!
What do u do if they are bucking when u are trying to pet them. I just got mine yesterday and I love him but he’s hissing and getting upset when I pick him up . Should I increase attention time ? Also what is the best time to pick them up ? Is there really a certain time ? Would it help to put a shirt with my scent into his cage as well? I really wanna help him feel comfortable
Tips (or new video suggestion) on how to go on vacation if you own a hedgehog. Do you have to go through the socialization process again? Will putting an item that smells like you in their enclosure while you are gone help? Should you add in smells of your pet sitter prior to leaving?
My hedgehog didn't come from a good source. She shows quills every time I pick her up or get her out of her home. She also hates nail trimming. I need help taking her.
If you saw my comment yesterday, I am getting a hedgehog really soon!! I picked out a name for it, biscuit! I love your videos and I have done some research and I know all about hedgehogs! Thanks for all the amazing content 🦔
My mom just bought my son a hedgehog and your video is great! His is aggressive and I think scared so I told him & my daughter to try and get him out of his cage so he can get used to us and of course I got poked lol. I did manage to get him to smell my fingers and hand and he licked me and bit the top of my hand but I just think he’s hungry lol. Side note, I love that you love HP and books (me too).
Thank you for doing this video!!! I have been working with my new hedgehog Regie for about 3 weeks and I am SLOWLY making progress. I definitely have to play with him on his schedule because if not, he will remain closed up. I will definitely give the t-shirt thing a try. My fiancé expected them to be like my pet rats, so he tried to scratch his belly. Needless to say, Regie hates that lol.
Thanks for the video. My hedgehog, Mochi, is very very antisocial. The thing is, he's been around a lot of people and sounds. It's weird though because we are also very very bonded. He can sniff me out in a room full of 30 people ( I took him to class one time and everyone just quietly sat in a circle to let him run around). And he always finds me and once he smells me after taking him out of his cage, he calms down and comes out even though I still know he's mad at me. So I think he's just like that? We started bonding the day I got him and I took him around other people. Every other hedgehog I've met has been pretty chill. But Mochi hates being woken up so during the day he's grumpy. I thought maybe that after a year he'd chill out a bit but he never did. I got a grumpy boy but I'm grumpy too so it works out.
my hedgie is also very grumpy. she was never previously handled before i rescued her. treats as incentives for your hedgie to bond with you is also something i’ve found helpful
i’ve had my girl for a few months and she’s gotten more comfortable with me but not entirely and i really hope she comes around completely she’s fine with sounds and she enjoys new smells which keeps holding her around the house a lot easier but she gets very uncomfortable when sitting with me even though i hold her 6/7 days a week¿ so yeah.. idk why i wrote this but i hope she gets comfortable with me
Mine oddly loves baths and a "midnight snack" mid day lol. But still working on bonding. He does get grumpy but getting better. Edit: and thank you!! These were good reminders that I'm on the right track and not to give up!
Hi could you give tips about traveling when you have a hedgehog? Like either to the store or if you have to to out of town. Like what do you do. I just want to be fully prepared before i purchase i don't travel a lot but if i do... What to do
Tori. I love your videos. Watched them all. Falling back on you for some help. I got a hedgehog that is about 2 1/2 months. The breeder was recommended to me. I was happy with her answering questions until I asked about bonding and how much he huffs. He won’t open up all with me until I feed him bugs then it’s back into the ball. I get him out each night. I talk to him. I don’t think that he loves the dog either. I have done what you recommended? What else? Is it just time? How long until he kind of likes me?
I just got mine, doesnt want to ever be handled and when he does come out of his ball state and i come near him he just goes back and starts his hissing again
How long did it take for you hedgehog to feel comfortable chilling on his back with you? Did you start handling him that way when you first got him? I got my little guy a week ago and have been holding him everyday but not on his back yet
You say that its really hot in your bedroom , doesn't look like you are sweating , you had to turn the air con off . These cute animals have a really specific temperature requirement ?
Today i found a hoglet in my garden. It took me 2 hours to have it flip over and let me have my fingers on its belly! But i dont know what to give for food.
I'm going to keep trying with my baby. I've only had her for about 2 months and she's only like 3 1/2 months old so I'm hoping she'll come around she already is a teensy bit more than she was when I first got her but I'm consistent I'm trying my best to be confident but she jumps and clicks and puts her quills at me so yeah she's not the friendliest.
A stray hedgehog just suddenly appeared in our garage and hid further in the junk and reappeared again a few days later and it was less rounder. I have it in a box now and we’ve been starting to get close to it by giving it food and water. I still have some fears of holding it but if you guys can do it, so can I. Im also now looking for shelters and toys for it to exercise on.
Hey Tori, thanks for all the great info! I'm a first time hedgehog mom and bonding is going great! Except every time I take Spike out he poops and pees randomly while we are playing. I'd like to let him run around the floor freely without the dread that's he's gonna leave his little messes everywhere. Will this get better with age and is there something I should be doing?
My hedgehog Bella is 2 months old.... I have tried many times to get her out of her cage... she keeps balling up hissy etc I know I need to be repetitive about getting her out which I try but I’m frustrated
My hedgehog distresses from baths! Yeah, it’s strange but if shes having a bad day I will give her a good bath I don’t even have to put soap just water and stroke it’s back with a toothbrush and I sit on the floor after and she will just sit with me and won’t put her quills up
Okay, so today I got another hedgehog (male) and he gets mad at me when I try to wake him up. It’s currently 2 am and I want to bond with him, but he isn’t very “awake”
My hedgie is very adventurous but not extremely social, so I take him over to my friends or my parents if it’s safe or I ever go stay over somewhere, and he has a smaller travel carrier, as in smaller than a backpack, I don’t keep him there the whole time however, I let him roam and play with toys.
my cousin just moved and couldn’t bring their hedgehog. she doesn’t seem to be very well tamed since she’s still very grumpy after being with us for a couple weeks and bites us sometimes. she’s about one year old and i was wondering if there’s still a chance for her to get more friendly?
it’s never too late! it’s a lengthy process for sure but i promise it’s so worth it in the end! they’re such rewarding pets to have if you take the time to bond with them.

We got that taken care of at the vet and now have 2 more, but haven't taken them out due to being scared this could happen again. However, they love to roam and explore and I think they'd really enjoy being out :).
At what age do they typically start quilling and how long does it typically take? Anything I can do to make it more comfortable for him? Thanks! 😊🦔
I don't know why, but I was giggling all over when you said "don't smoosh down!"
My hedgie, who is pretty tame for a hedgehog, will not allow anyone to touch his face. We've worked on it for years at this point, but he just nopes out of it. I'm accepting of this. It's just who he is. 😊
And my girl enjoys having me pet her face. If I stop she licks my finger to get me going again. But she's not crazy about belly rubs tho.
i get my female hedgehog in about 2 weeks from a place like 4 hours away and i’m so nervous she’s gonna be my first of hopefully many (over the years def not all at once) i’m so excited they’re my favorite animals
Her hedgehog: *very clean*
My hedgehog:*poops everywhere*
Her hedgehog:*doesnt run away*
My hedgehog:CMON BROTHER LETS GET OUTTA HERE (My hedghogs brother is brownie)
lol, mine just hides under everything unless theres nothing to hide under he just balls up☹️
@@chestnutgaming992 because they are pray animals
I picked my hedgehog today from someone who didn't wang her and she is not very socialized, she jumps and makes a hissy noise every time she's moved
Want*
My brother got me a hedgehog yesterday. Luckily, the lady he bought him from was very good with him, and gave me a printed care sheet for him, but he's very shy, and makes demonic noises, but I'm watching your videos to get the best information I can. Thank you!
How is it going so far?
@@smcalpha It's going pretty good! He's still a little shy, but he doesn't mind me being there. I gave him one of my shirts, and he sleeps in it all the time. He's a little grumpy still, but we're making progress
Demonic noises bestie? Elaborate.
I’ve never clicked so fast in my life
literally me a year later
Same
okay so i really really want a hedge hog but i go to florida on vacation a lot (i live in iowa) so i wouldn’t be able to bring him with me, we sometimes go from spring break, thanksgiving, and we always go for a month during the summer...we have someone come up everyday to care for our many other pets (dogs, cats, a bunny, guinea pigs, etc) is there any way i could make this work, please help!
I miss Draco😶
Me too!
Tori Lynn I have a hedgehog named Peaches and another named pickle and Peaches is 3 and a half so she might die soon and she is so sweet❤️
Your new Hedgie is adorable. 😍
What about vacation is it ok to leave them for 4 days without taking them out if you have someone feeding them and checking on them everyday
Yes, they’ll be okay. Just be aware that when you come home they’ll likely be a little skittish if they aren’t fully tamed already.
Wy pet hedgehog is called kiara shes a girl she is 45 days old and she poked me with a quill on the second day
Thank you for doing this video!!!
Just rescued a hedgehog and your videos have been such a huge help. Thank you for all your videos
I will get my first hedgehog tomorrow and your videos really help me. He is 1 year old and untamed 😂
@@madisondixon1623 I might start trying that with bananas since he loves them since he really doesn't like insects. Thanks for the tip!
Do you think you can tell me the place you get the hids they sleep in I don’t know what to buy?
i’ve had my girl for a few months and she’s gotten more comfortable with me but not entirely and i really hope she comes around completely
she’s fine with sounds and she enjoys new smells which keeps holding her around the house a lot easier
but she gets very uncomfortable when sitting with me even though i hold her 6/7 days a week¿
so yeah.. idk why i wrote this but i hope she gets comfortable with me
So I am getting a hedgehog soon and wondering if I get a wire cage if a can live it with fleece on the outside with Mini window to see in the cage ?
Mine oddly loves baths and a "midnight snack" mid day lol. But still working on bonding. He does get grumpy but getting better.
Edit: and thank you!! These were good reminders that I'm on the right track and not to give up!
I’m hoping to get one and you gave me SO many tips thanks!!
Hi could you give tips about traveling when you have a hedgehog? Like either to the store or if you have to to out of town. Like what do you do. I just want to be fully prepared before i purchase i don't travel a lot but if i do... What to do
Hi! So if your going to like a trip to the vet you can get a like a small pet carrier to put your hedgehog in and just hold the carrier.
thanks this is soooo helpful to know and im planning to get a hedgehog when im 13. Parents have said nothing abt me getting one love you.
You’re so helpful! I get my hedgie next week after 14 years of asking! Lol
I just got mine, doesnt want to ever be handled and when he does come out of his ball state and i come near him he just goes back and starts his hissing again
Thank you for them tip my hedgehog loves me now and loves to play love your channel xx 🦔🦔
My Hedgi is brand new & is in a ball hissing & lunging at me lol. He’s not having it!
Hey Tori, what do you do for playtime with your hedgehog? Would you make a video of that?
my hedgehog is very new to my home and i was picking him up and pet him on her face and she started to become more chill
"My hedgehogs pronouns are him/her"
How long did it take for you hedgehog to feel comfortable chilling on his back with you?
I love this vid!!! LOL ❤️love your channel
I have been thinking about adopting a hedgehog, so I'm trying to get as much advise as possible.
Do you recommend getting a baby hedge for easier bonding or would it be okay if I got it when it was like 5 months old
My hedgehog distresses from baths! Yeah, it’s strange but if shes having a bad day I will give her a good bath I don’t even have to put soap just water and stroke it’s back with a toothbrush and I sit on the floor after and she will just sit with me and won’t put her quills up
When I’m older I am getting a hedgehog 🦔 they are so adorable
Okay, so today I got another hedgehog (male) and he gets mad at me when I try to wake him up. It’s currently 2 am and I want to bond with him, but he isn’t very “awake”
what are the best feeds for them? among fruits and vegetables?
Thank you, I got one from a pet store he is an adult, possibly not the best idea. I just didn't want to leave without him
My hedgie is very adventurous but not extremely social, so I take him over to my friends or my parents if it’s safe or I ever go stay over somewhere, and he has a smaller travel carrier, as in smaller than a backpack, I don’t keep him there the whole time however, I let him roam and play with toys.
Are those percy jackson and hp series at your book shelves?? Btw love your videos about hh's
my cousin just moved and couldn’t bring their hedgehog. she doesn’t seem to be very well tamed since she’s still very grumpy after being with us for a couple weeks and bites us sometimes. she’s about one year old and i was wondering if there’s still a chance for her to get more friendly?
it’s never too late! it’s a lengthy process for sure but i promise it’s so worth it in the end! they’re such rewarding pets to have if you take the time to bond with them.
I’m doing research on hedgehogs I’m gonna ask my mom if I can get one do you have any advice
I have been asking my mom for YEARS and she is finally considering it for my bday in august!
Inca S hope you get one
Is it possible to train a hedgehog to use a litter trey?
Yes
When I have a shirt with a little bag on this shirt can I put it in or do they don't like it bc I get a hedgehog in a week
How can I stop Cosmo from escaping? He escaped for a fourth time now and ive only had him for 5 days
