    This video SAVED my hedgehogs life!!! I couple months ago my parents surprised me with a hedgehog. I’m a very caring person and I have been wanting one for a while. She was $250 so I was doing chores around the house. The breeder said she needed to be in a environment that is 72-80 degrees. And recommended a heat lamp. But my parents thought my room was warm enough, so for a couple weeks she didn’t have a good heat source. Then she started wobbling, and not eating, drinking, or using her litter box & wheel. So that’s when I got really worried. Probably two days after I saw her wobble. I was up late, and I just happened to see you posted a video. I did some research before that pointed to hibernation. But once I watched your video, I was for SURE, she was trying to hibernate. So the next morning I told my mom, and my dad got a heat lamp after work. I am so grateful of your videos. I felt so bad that she didn’t have a heat lamp. She had lots of blankets but that just didn’t work. You keep making videos, because they really do save lives.

      I don't think you will reply but this is exactly what my parents would do! My room is like 15 degrees celcius (hedgehogs need 22 to 27) and they say my room is warm. What the hell?! I'm getting a hedgehog from my own income so thank god they can't butt in and tell me what to do and now I can provide the heating.

    I woke up at 5 AM and realized that my hedgehog hadn’t eaten anything! I see and she’s just a little ball of quills, I pick her up but she doesn’t unravel like she usually does… I thought the only thing that this could be is hibernation so I found this video. Thank you so much now my hedgehog is responsive, if it wasn’t for you I think my hedgehog wouldn’t have made it! TYSM!!!♥️

      @Andrea Gonzalez so I live in a place with reallyyyyy bad winters , so I was wondering, what would happen if the power went out and their was no heater? Should I jest try to keep her warm in my arms or like wrap her around a blanket? Also is it okay to open her cage when the room is cold or will all the warm air escape from out of her cage?

    I am SO GLAD you made this video this week! Scarily, this morning, found my hedgehog in a ball, and she hadn't run last night or eaten much (if anything). I have heat source (CHE) and cage was at proper temperature the past few days (if a bit on the lower side - it was a cold/drafty night last night!), but woke up this morning with the hedge being quite unresponsive (stayed in a ball, didn't say hello when I picked her up). A cold belly gave me the BIG indicator something was wrong. I heated her back up, and when she bit me I knew she was doing better :) Currently have her with me and she's starting to accept food and water. Monitoring her closely today and cranked up the heat in her cage a few degrees. Scary stuff! Thanks for the information!
    (Don't shame me! First time hedgie momma here!)

    I am an experienced owner but only had a hedgehog go attempt hibernation today. It is a cold snap and the house got a little colder but I have a heat lamp to ensure it is warm enough. Sadly she tipped the water dish and got went which got her very cold where she was curling up, shaking, and very cold to the touch. I took the heat lamp and placed it in a nice spot, used my body to warm her a bit (first time she layed her head on me ever). She then was moving a bit so I put her in a towel under the lamp and continued to monitor her and feel her body. She finally got back up to her old self and was no longer cold or shaking. I now covered the cage more to increase tempature some more, but thanks to this video I will keep an especially close eye on her for the next two weeks. I didn't now know they may reattempt. Thank you for that. Luckily she can curl up to her sister for some extra warmth. (Her sister is bigger and warmer). Thank you!

    I want a hedgehog so bad! My mom has declared that i can get one for Christmas if i know and understand the anatomy of a hedgehog, find a place for one, and keep my room clean enough for it! i have been looking around the internet trying to find a reputable source for all the info that i need! your channel has been so very helpful! My whole family and i refuse to purchase pets without having done adequate research to accommodate their needs. i have since set up a savings plan based on your cost of a hedgehog video and i have put things in to carts on various websites! I'm even investing in a rabbit cafe for my hedgehog so she has lots of space to roam! I'm gonna name her Pippa (pip for short)

    A heat lamp was not enough warmth for my hedgehog. To check this, check the bottom of the cage or the blankets to make sure they are warm to the touch. Mine wasn’t warm at all so I knew I needed a high wattage heat lamp, or a better solution I found was an animal heat pad. Such a better investment!!

    Hi Tori Lynn, my hedgehog is about 1 1/2 and I have been noticing that she has been having trouble breathing so we took her to the vet and she got some antibiotics. She has been fine with that but then I noticed that in the last few days, shes hasn't been running on her wheel and not been eating her medicine, her food, and her water. I also have been trying to play with her for the last few days and she has been unresponsive but has been curled up in a ball. She sometimes snores, and she wasn't making the snoring noises anymore, (the noises were actually snoring because I asked the vet and she said that it was snoring). I watched your video today because I was really scared that she was going to hibernate and die. It was so helpful that I went and got a heat lamp hoping that it would help. I went to the store and when I came back, she had gotten out of her ball. I picked her up but she was pretty slow, and blinking slowly too. She was also wobbly, but I wasn't that scared because I heard what you said in the video. I am letting her rest now, and she is responsive. Do you have any ideas on how I can get her to eat and drink? Will she just do it eventually? You saved my hedgehogs life. I was so scared she was going to die! Thank you so much Tori Lynn!

    I semi-recently bought 2 hedgehogs from a lady who was selling them. She seemed like a great person, and they were very well taken care of, aside from the fact that she had never used a heat lamp with them. I always intended to buy a heat lamp, but they are incredibly expensive, and they seemed fine without it. Yesterday however, when I checked on them, my female hedgehog Luna was curled completely into a ball, and she wouldn't come out. There was a good 10 minutes where she was completely unresponsive, and I thought she was dead. It took some time, but we got her to wake up, and she seems back to normal. We purchased a space heater, and I will be buying the heat lamps this week. I just wanted to share our story, and remind you how important heat lamps are!

    I know this is an old video but my little girl had an attempt today. I went by her cage and saw no sign of her running in her wheel and no food touched. Looked in her den and she was tightly in a ball. Got her out and she came out of her ball within a minute. I must of caught her EARLY. I put her against my body and put blankets around her. Put her back in her cage after about an hour and she went straight to her bowl to eat, I'm checking on her because it's daylight and I know she needs to sleep. I'm not sure what caused her attempt, her temperature is lower than most but she has been fine with it for over a year now, we are having a huge cold front coming through soon so I think the atmospheric pressure could have something to do with it. Light has never been a problem but we had a week of rain so not much sun and I wasn't working so the light wasn't on during the day.

    my hedgehog is so weird, I've had too many heating problems, over heating to be exact...so now, my hedgehogs room is cold even for me, but for him its perfect, anything more and he is splatting. He's like the opposite. He can handle less than 20 C. His stomach is always nice and warm...I've been very careful and picking his right temp, took me a while, and very careful to make sure its ok for him and check several times a day on him.

    hi last night i went to get my hedgehog out of her cage to play with her and she was in a ball and wouldn’t come out for a few minutes (not long, like 2) she usually comes out right away. she also didn’t seem as active as she normally is. i felt her stomach area and i noticed it was cold to the touch and she wasn’t walking properly (shaking a bit). at first i worried it was WHS but after putting a space heater on her for a bit she was walking normally and acting like herself. i knew about hibernation, but i didnt think that’s what it was until i did some research. i did what hedgehog central suggested (holding her close to my chest with a blanket over her). she hadn’t been eating as much as usual the past few days. my mom checked on her earlier today and she felt warm and was acting like her usual happy self. she had also eaten her food as usual. i put a heating pad under her bed area (don’t worry i did my research and it is a safe chick heating pad that works for hedgehogs). i am now playing with her and she seems like her normal self. i’m not sure if i should take her to the vet or not because she seems normal, but i think it might be a good idea just in case. any advice? anything helps

    I have a question, I saved my hedgehog from hibernation, he started waking up and being more alert and eating but I have noticed he has not been walking the same, his back legs are wide and he walks really slow .

    I went to check in my hedgehog and she wouldn’t come out of her ball even when I tried giving her worms (which she loves). I followed this video and she came out after about 2 mins!! Thank you so much!!

    Great video, good info! Have you ever done a video about how our domestic hedgehogs came to be? I’ve heard a lot of interesting things like how the African pigmie hedgehogs are a highbrid of two wild types.
    Also I am in the process of switching my hedgehog, Baxter over to a new food!

    we immediately insulated the windows in the hedgys room, and put a thermometer that automatically turns on a heater for him if it gets below 73 until it reaches around 75, i hope that is adequate as that is the temp we landed on combined with the centeral heating system of the house. We opened the vent to that room and closed our bedrooms so that we dont get overwhelmed with the heat at night. Working on a heat lamp as well just to make sure the winter is nice and warm. I didnt think about the light sources playing a role! after daylight savings i have noticed he will sleep into the night several hours after dark. ill definitely remember to turn on the light in that room once the sun sets for now on.

    I live in arizona and the temperature is really hot here would a hedgehog be comfortable without a heating lamp or should I give it one period? I'm trying to find out as much as possible about heating because it seems it is one of the most important things about caring for a hedgehog

    Hey i'm doing a looot of research on hedgehogs but still have a dumb question. I go on trips several times, really small trips that last about 2 to 3 days, i saw that it's fone to leave hedgies behind as lomg as they're provided the right food and water amount (now, it may be wrong) do i leave the lamp on the whole time i'm not at home? I'm paranoid about fire hazards, also, if i am not at home for a big bunch of the day, (after which i would still provide play time) do i still leave the lamp on? I'm sure my parents won't let me because they're just as scared as i am of an eventual fire

    Hi, please help me. Just found a hedgehog hibernation nest at an excavation area, it was partly undisclosed. I normally don’t like interrupting into nature things, but had to save the poor thing, since it was just by a few inches that machines missed it, also, dogs roam the area. We took home but didn’t wake up, weather outside is still cold (will be 1C overnight). I guess that’s too cold, so we covered it with leaves, and put in a ventilated cardboard box. It seems to have gone back to deeper sleep (when found, breathing was around 50/minute - regular for awaken status, now back to few a minute). Thankfully it’s not injured. I found an earthworm that I placed in the box in case it woke and cut an apple (hope that’s fine). I’d like to release the poor thing back to nature as soon as possible, but not rush awakening. What I’m currently concerned about is: is this weather not too cold for it? I guess the house is way too hot (20 C), and the only place, a storage room is even around 15-18C: it would surely wake there. What’s best to do now? Thanks!

    Our hedgehog is currently attempting hibernation. We live in Canada and it's getting colder. Due to the drop in temperature and day time hours, she is unresponsive. I have her under my shirt, under a blanket. I've turned up the heat to 90 degrees F and am patiently waiting for her to warm up. It's been over an hour and I'm worried.

    Sorry if this question is super random but
    Do you think that a 2×2 C&C cage is good for hedgehogs? Like... Is it enough room for them because I'm thinking of building one

    My hedgehog is currently trying to hibernate. I stumbled on this video in a panic trying to help her. I came home and her heat was off which never happens. She was curled up in a ball and would only uncurl when I pet the quila directly on her back. Even though she didn’t uncurl I’m guessing it was a muscle response because she looked asleep. I finally got her to kind of open her eyes and I have her on skin to skin right now trying to get her all the way awake. I’m scared 😭

    Hello, I love all your videos! Just got a hedgehog for Christmas (his name is Quinn) and I typically keep my house at 64. I have no issues getting a heat lamp but I thought they like the darkness? I don't want to upset him by have a light pointed on him all day. Please advise. Thank you.

    So im planning on buying a hedgehog and I am currently ordering a lot of the supplies I need off amazon. I was looking at igloos/hides and they gave me several different size options. This made me wonder, how big are hedgehogs (length width height)? Also, is there a certain size of hut/igloo you recommend? Ty!

    • @ToriLynnPPH
      @ToriLynnPPH  6 лет назад

      There isn’t an average size for hedgehogs. I typically go for the large igloos :) I find items marketed for guinea pigs are usually a decent size for hedgehogs.

    I have one guinea pig (please do not hate on me I had two Guinea pigs but one passed) and three hamsters. I am highly thinking about getting a hedgehog. I am prepared for mess, smell, high-maintenance (as my guinea pig is all that plus a drama queen), and also it being nocturnal (I have three hamsters. Hamsters=nocturnal) Also I am fine with feeding live bugs, handling pointy quills, and a potentially unsocial hedgehog. I already have a small guinea pig cage collecting dust in the basement (it’s way too small for guinea pigs but probably okay for hedgies) I have hermit crabs which have a heat source (a heat pad) so probably my parents would be okay with me getting a heat lamp for the hedgie. I have an exotic vet ten minutes away, which I take my piggy and hammies to in case they get sick.
    You guys made it to the end! What do you think??? Should I get a hedgie? I would prefer a male because 3/4 of my small animals are females (and I’m also okay with seeing masturbation, lol, I’m used to it, I bred my hamsters once so I saw it)

    I'm getting a hedgehog in a week or two and I have a question. My room is usually pretty cold but I have a plan to keep the hedgehogs cage hot. How long will it take for the hedgehog being in cold temperatures for it to hibernate? Like if I were to take it out to clean its cage, give it a bath, etc do I have a timer for it going into hibernation or will i be fine? Thanks in advance, your videos have helped me a lot.

    • @andrww9272
      @andrww9272 6 лет назад

      Cdysigh It depends on how cold it is! If it is around 60 degrees Fahrenheit the hedgehog may have 15 minutes until it goes into Fahrenheit but it all depends on the hedgehog and the temperature! Some hedgehogs will attempt it sooner and others will take their time. Make sure that your hedgehogs heat is connected to a thermostat and that the temperature in the cage is always between 72-80 degrees Fahrenheit! :)

    Dear PugPibbleHedgie, I have quick question that I hope you will see. I wanted a hedgehog and was hoping I would get one for Christmas...but I didn't. My parents said they will not let me have one until I move out of the house. Lots of people can relate. Anyways....If I ever get one and I don't have a lot of money to bye a heating lamp. Are heating blankets okay??? I saw a lot of them at my local Target and I was hoping that it will work out. Thanks and keep up the good work!

    • @ToriLynnPPH
      @ToriLynnPPH  6 лет назад +1

      No, unfortunately heating blankets aren't a good option for hedgehogs, neither are heating pads. :)

It's what i do before I get any animal so I know the things to look out for and how to properly care. Anyway thanks for any feedback given❤💕

    • @murphtasticstudios

      It might be WHS, her legs could be paralyzed, this is very dangerous, how old is your hedgehog and when did you notice this? Also, I am not a professional, to be sure, please take her to a vet.

    I’m aware the Day/Night cycle is important to a hedgie and I’m curious for my situation I goto bed about 8/9 and turn the light off for him, but I wake up 3:30am which i promptly turn the light on to get ready I leave about 5:40 and turn the light back off so he’s there from 9pm to 3 am no light then light for a bit then no light from 6am to 3pm which when I come home I turn it on and leave it on till bed, should I be leaving the light on while I’m at work? while I’m at work? I feel light I’m not leaving the light on enough but I know they’re nocturnal or am I just over analyzing.
