These video tutorials are way better than instructions. It's fine to read about how it's done, but so much better when someone shows you exactly how to do it in sequence. We just got the K Elite not too long ago so this is our first descaling and things worked out great.

Love my Keurig but never descaled. Descale light came on, followed and tried all steps and would automatically shut immediately after selecting size. I unplugged, cleaned the drain from the reservoir to the Keurig, cleaned both needles and followed all steps on this video and it worked! This is my first Keurig and will clean every 3 months as recommended and not wait for the descale light to turn on.

Same! I am unable to descale the damn thing, right after I press the size it automatically turns off. It’s starting to really get me mad as I bought it a year ago and descale it before the light came on. Now the light comes

I’ve never ever descaled my first Keurig, didn’t even know that was a thing. So yea I watched ur video last night and for some stupid reason I never bothered to read the instructions. Well imma descale my Keurig this Friday. I tested mines earlier and the machines perfect but I still want and probably need to clean it. 💯💯💯

Pro Tip - put the cleaning solution you were going to discard into the dishwasher and run it without a cleaning pod.............. best to add it about 5 minutes into the cycle because the dishwasher usually starts by pumping out any water that's collected in the bottom drain recess . I’ve had the same Keurig now going on like 12 years
For anyone who doesn’t get the add water message; stop the process when the tank is almost empty and proceed with the rest of the video. No need to sweat over it. The point of the process is simply to clean the machine.
Correct, the add water light did not come on for me, as long as you got the solution into the machine your gravy

Ours stopped working as soon as the descale light came on. It just sits there. Doesn’t pump water. It sighs like the heating element is trying to heat, but I don’t know for certain. Think we’re gonna have to open her up & see if the heating element or water pump/hoses are just too clogged. If we can get it running, then this video is very helpful! Thanks!

Wish I'd seen this before the descale light came on. I was under the impression the light came on to tell you it was time to descale. Now I can't do anything with it. I put the descale solution in the tank, but as soon as I press the cup size, the machine turns itself off. So obviously I waited too long, but what's the use of having a descale light if it's not going to warn you "it's time to do it"... rather than " oops...you waited too long." How am I supposed to fix that?
Same......the light came on and when we tried to descale it shuts off as soon as I press the size button. 😢 very sad. I'll try to call them tomorrow because this machine is less than a year old.

I use citric acid dissolved in water. You can get a big sack online, and works way better than vinegar. No smell either

We use this model at work. Thankfully we have a mini R.O. water cooler for the staff to use and everyone has been told to use only this water rather than the sink to add water to the reservoir. We have had this machine for over 4 years and I don’t believe we’ve ever descaled it as we don’t get calcium in the filtered water. HOWEVER…. we are getting mildew/mold in the reservoir tank towards the top and I have to wash it out every 2-3 weeks with soap and water.
Today, I went ahead and descaled our Keurig, but how do I keep the mildew/mold from building up?
Had the issue with the descale light coming on, attempted to run the descale solution though as in the video and it shuts off almost immediately after a small amount of water runs though, decided to do the steps over and over as in the video of opening > closing > running a cup size though (it shuts off almost immediately), and over time it started to send more and more water though, now I’m at the stage where I’m letting sit on with the solution inside for 45 mins, I will update this shortly on if it worded or not
It worked, just took some time but it worked 👍🏻 so if your descale light is on you just have to keep turning it back on and start the process over and over, eventually it gets done
Can u still descale it if the light dosnt turn on but you've had it for a year.... Or is it just best to wait till descale light turns on.. I got the descale solution just to have a bottle.... Great video

Hi Just A Dad. Thank you for your videos. I bought a kit from Walmart that had charcoal filters pods and one jar of the descale solution. I was wondering if the k-cups included were to be in the k-cup compartment during the cleaning process. I am not finding any information about them on the bottle, on the box they came in, or on any you tube video. They all say put nothing in the compartment so I am wondering what the pods (called "Rinse Pods") are intended to do?

The rinse pods do not have to be used when you are descaling, you can use those anytime you feel you need to clean the bottom needle basket area. I use one about every week or 2 weeks just to rinse the bottom and top needle basket from coffee oils that build up. Fresh water rinses without any k cup work also. I’ve been fighting with this machine trying to get the descale light to come on. I didn’t know it comes on when it needs to be descaled lol. I thought that’s how you descaled it.
My machine will sometimes throw a "descale" light when the upper needle attached to the articulating lid is gummed up with coffee grounds. If that needle is clogged, you may find that the machine will refuse to draw in water to heat and immediately shuts off. Found this out the hard way!

My descaling light turned on and I added the solution with water. When I chose the cup size all that came out was a drop! After it did that the machine turned off. I turned it on again, the descale light was on again. I repeated the same process and again no water came out. 😢

What if a light won’t even blink when you open it and close it ? Mine just has the descale light
our add water light is not coming on and completely empties the reservoir of the descale solution/water mix. so i kept pouring it back in to make sure it had some in reserve before letting it sit with the cleaner inside for a while . We had chlorinated city water at our previous house last year but now have community well water in our new house which we run through a softener and a basic fridge water filter before pouring into the Keurig. So not sure if we should be descaling more often, as well as whether we should only use the descaling solution or if vinegar is enough for our well water

As far as water. I would guess you would be ok with your water, I would still descale it because all water except distilled water has some minerals in it. that is good because coffee makers need minerals in the water for the coffee to taste good. Just don't used distilled water. I would say you just won't have to descale as often. I would still do it at least every 6 months. As far as the type of descale. I would pick one and keep with that one. I really like the Keurig solution but it is more expensive. Vinegar seems to do just fine except you need to rinse it a bit more to get the taste out. @@JustADad my elite emties tank and no light too, i dont know if went out or machine damaged. I unpluged it then went thru program then. Unplugged it . I think thats how u reset? It runs tank dry then has to be reset , after i reset it works . As long as i refil water every cup ,i am fine. Kinda a pain, not sure how long i will mess with that. Was thinking new supreme plus but a few bad reviews are out there. How long u had supreme plus in service. I know u got a buncha kuerigs. Do u recomend it?

I love the K Supreme, I have all 3. the first one is a good deal for about $140 amzn.to/3h6xhYG I love my new Supreme smart. its a little work setting it up to wifi but wow its just cool to use. Yes some supremes do have problems, I have had to contact Keurig 4 times and everytime they have been very helpful. Good video. So the descaling light only comes on when it's dirty enough to need a cleaning. It's not a function that the machine does on it's own.
You are correct, for the model. the newer models the light comes on after 250 brew no mater how dirty it is on the inside.
my add water light doesn't go on once the descaling solution goes through the system. Keurig told me not to worry about it. i then wait 30 minutes and continue the process. Any thoughts about the light not going on? thnx

Oh boy that is a good one. Sometimes if you have never descaled it and then you go and descale it the machine could stop working. Not sure what to tell you, it could break it but just not sure. is your coffee still hot, and taste good? then I might not.
@@JustADad Yeah it still makes good coffee, I did buy a K-Supreme Plus Smart after watching your unboxing and review though. I do like the flavor from the newer machine better than the Elite. Won't make the same mistake again.

First time my descale light came on. I tried to descale with given instructions. My Machine kept turning off. I cleaned the needle inside and pressed the 6 ounce water button, water started coming out. However, after that.
The descale light completely shut off after 1 cup. How do i resume descaling? Do i just continue to press any size until the water reservoir is out of water?

I have the same model. Don't you need to press two buttons together to get the descale mode to turn on? The Add Water never turned on for us, it depleted all the water. I did keep it closed for 30mins so hopefully that did the trick! Not sure if anyone is experiencing similar issue.
The add water light not coming on is a very common problem on the Elite.
I've been having an issue with my Keurig Elite. I live in a town (Palo Alto, California) with very soft water. Our water comes from Hetch Hetchy reservoir in the Sierra next to Yosemite. It's GREAT water (better than most bottled water you can buy). So, I haven't had our "descale" light come on -- ever -- in two different Keurig machines. However, recently, I've noticed that choosing the "STRONG" option results in very small cups of coffee. However, choosing to brew coffee via the regular Keurig method comes out normal sizes. I'm trying to find an explanation. Some have suggested descaling -- but I don't know if this would be a cause (since the regular Keurig cups seem fine and appropriately sized). Could descaling it be the issue?
I would try it, personally. It definitely couldn't hurt and that's exactly what ours started doing prior to the descale light that turned on with hubby cup.of decaf at 10:30 pm last night. Now, this morning (I wasn't doing it last night) it won't stay on to complete the descale process. It's making me so mad. Our water is hard water (I know ypu said yours is AMAZING), but ours is LITERALLY TRIPLE filtered prior to the Keurig machine and filter. I would go ahead and do a descale if I were you. Good luck!

No, I would just throw away the filter and get a new one. it might taste bad now because of the vinegar in the carbon water filter.

My d’escale light was on so started the descaling process. While the solution was going down as I filled a small cup, the add water light never came on so now it’s basically empty. Should I dump the last bit of descaling solution back in the reservoir tank and let it sit for 30 minutes?
Yes, sometimes my K elite add water light does not come on also. not sure why that is. Yeah I would just give it 30 min then rinse it out. Sorry wish I could be more help

Does this get rid of mold and bacteria? I was gifted a keurig and didn’t know you had to descale every so often. I do clean the tank and change pods but didn’t know about the rest.
Great question. I would think it would clean the inside pretty good, but if it has a lot of mold, I am just not sure about that.
@@JustADad thank you so much for replying. The funny thing is the descale light has yet to turn on and yesterday your video popped up showing the keurig that I was gifted lol. I bought the descale solution and gave the keurig a good cleaning. Nothing gross came out after brewing so I’m assuming that’s a good thing. I clean the tank once or twice a week and change the pod every 30 days which I think helped, plus we use bottled water.

So we got one of the walmart kits and used it as per the directions and we are getting a horrible chemical taste even after going through 5 tanks. Please help. We do not want to have to buy another keurig elite
is it The Keurig descaling solution or another brand. The Keurig Solution works really good, The taste and smell maybe coming from the needle basket area. water alone does not clean the hard water deposits that form on the heating element.

I just took mine apart and its really not mean to be replaced.
We had a Keurig at work and we never descaled it. Before long it stopped working. Be sure to descale your expensive Keurig machine.

Mine never said to add water. Just kept running the solution until the reservoir was empty and solution stopped coming out

Sorry to hear this. Sometimes my add water light stops working also. if you remove the water reservoir and reinstall it a couple times that usually gets it working again. Also you might have to unplug it and let it sit for a bit. Let me know if this fixes it.

Great Question!!! Not really sure, there are 2 different thoughts, If it aint broke don't fix it. so if You know that before you begin, just keep in mind it could break it.
I am just typing this message today 11/29/22 my Keurig elite has been cutting off sometimes. I'll turn it on I'll let the water heat up and when I push one of the buttons for the water size let's say the 8 oz it just shuts off could that be because I need to descale it or is there something wrong with my machine? I have thus far not descaled yet and I've had my machine for over 16 or 17 months.

In the K Elite user guide it mentions using the hot water button, but says to use the largest brew size, not 6 oz.
I think you can use either volume, The point is to just run the water or solution through it and stop when the Add water light comes on.

My add water light never comes on. I just leave about an inch of solution in the tank and let it sit for 30 mins. The heating element sound is very faint when I'm dealing.

Mine was not on because the machine was not turning it on. I was showing you how to descale when your descale light comes on. You can descale it with out it on or with it on.
You never want to clean a keurig with soap and water ever. Hot water yes but never any soap in the water reservoir
