    What I like about Cohen is he cut his losses with Scherzer and Verlander instead of stubbornly doubling down and trying to put bandaids on the many leaks this team has. He tried to win now, it didn't work out, and now it's time to move on to another plan. Despite the losing season I have full confidence in this owner unlike the dreaded Wilpons who's only interest was making money and not winning a World Series. Steve wants to win the same way George Steinbrenner did and he has even more resources to pay players than George did. That's a great thing. It's only a matter of time until the results come and they will with this owner.

      Definitely something to say he did right. In the future, he’l be regarded as one of, if not the best owner in Baseball. Everything he does is in the good faith of the fans.

      They gotta rebuild that farm system..rebuild the roster which might take 3 years which means alot of empty seats. Takes time to build a winner.. their fans gotta be patient ...but the owner will have to ass well.. my stros were the worst team in 2014

      @@PurelyBaseballYTjust because you are a fan first owner doesn’t mean you will go down as one of the best. Cohen signed scherzer and Verlander to massive deals, both aging veterans, and then shipped them away for some okay prospects, and they are still paying like half their contracts. How will Cohen go down as one of the best owners when this offseason for the Mets and what’s happened has been historically bad. Cohen gets way too much love, he’s also just a scummy piece of shit who should be in jail

  • @chrisnalina1755

    He over paid for Lindor. Giving up young talent for getting him and over paying
    on LIndor's contract when there was no need to sign him when he did. He should
    have waited and signed him at the end of that season.
    Imagine if he signed Carlos Corrrea? That would have been awful. And he was
    about to sign him to a long term contract.

    When they pitched they didn’t hit, when they hit they didn’t pitch. Losing edwin was huge, and I can’t explain why we suddenly just fell flat in all aspects of the game.
    This is June we’re talking about, we were pretty good in every other month. (Post trade deadline non-withstanding)

      Because to win in Baseball, you need character. You need to be able to edge out your opponent in pitching duels and play just a little bit sharper and grittier. In slug fest, you need to hang with the other team and eventually settle down and clinch the game at the end... It's mental and momentum based, and this team just couldn't launch and lacked the fortitude and determination to go for the Wildcard. Forget about the division, they gave up on that in May it seems.
      Just go rewatch the Mets from their Championship years. THEY HAD GRIT AND CHARACTER. This current batch of Mets are soft and we need to get some aces and speedy gritty players again like Dyskstra and Backman.

    If the Mets were close to the talent the Braves had they would of held on max and Justin and retooled next year. But the Mets are so far behind in talent no money could of brought home the WS. So they did the right move. Now we have 5 prospects in the top 80 of the mlb. Let’s hope it works out.

      They’re still retooling next year. If it was a full on rebuild they’d do more tanking. Still probably could’ve done something this year if they hung on to Verlander and Robertson.

    Luck plays more of a role in baseball than in most other team sports. You can do everything right, and things still won’t pan out.
    I think in the long run, Cohen’s willingness to pay the luxury tax is going to be good for baseball and great for the players.

  • @tommybotts

    Personally, I think signing players to long term guaranteed contract makes them psychologically lazy. Players don't run hard to 1st base, players batting avgs are way down, pitcher's arms are coddled because of all the money they're making - they go 7 innings or 100 pitches, whichever comes first. That means they start getting tired in the 6th inning knowing they'll be out soon. Check the baseball stats of modern day pitchers compared to those of yesteryear. You can pitch for 17 years as a starter and leave with 12 complete games whereas those from the 60-70's had over 200 complete games. Today's pitchers are wimps! Modern day players are not hungry and to top it off, they're way more injury prone than years past!

    • @PurelyBaseballYT
      @PurelyBaseballYT  11 месяцев назад +2

      We see it every year with these giant contracts. There just killers. Players now a days have all the potential in the world, but get killed by injury! Destroys them. Plus again, they get paid and lose that spark

      Don't think it's always lazy , you could throw in stress and millions of dollars of pressure and fans that will tell you your trash . Most people who make this kind of money know that they are not worthy of it on a very human level. It's like players getting the yipps ( pitcher can't throw to first ? Can't throw a strike ? )

    I can't understand how having the best pitchers guarantees your going to win. Take for instance the Braves this year have the best record and half their pitchers have been injured or ineffective most of the season, but they lead the league in Home Runs and just about every hitting stat. You need great hitting, especially nowadays. Good pitching and consistency from your best pitchers only helps so much. 40yo Justin Verlander is not going to give you 6 run onslaught in a single inning, but he might be on the receiving end of it. That's where Steve Cohen failed to see.

    • @PurelyBaseballYT
      @PurelyBaseballYT  11 месяцев назад

      Pitching is where you winning. The Braves are starting to learn that as well man trust me. If your pitchers are giving up 4-6 runs a game, your gonna lose a LOT more games. Your offense WILL have slow nights. Those are the ones you can win, with good pitching. In the post season, if you put up a bunch of 3 pitchers in a NLCS, your bound to lose.
