Title: The Tragic Story of the New York Mets
By: Purely Baseball Спорт
What I like about Cohen is he cut his losses with Scherzer and Verlander instead of stubbornly doubling down and trying to put bandaids on the many leaks this team has. He tried to win now, it didn't work out, and now it's time to move on to another plan. Despite the losing season I have full confidence in this owner unlike the dreaded Wilpons who's only interest was making money and not winning a World Series. Steve wants to win the same way George Steinbrenner did and he has even more resources to pay players than George did. That's a great thing. It's only a matter of time until the results come and they will with this owner.
Definitely something to say he did right. In the future, he’l be regarded as one of, if not the best owner in Baseball. Everything he does is in the good faith of the fans.
facts ususally mets sign 40 year olds that blow and they cant get anything for them. Happy we at least got prospects.
Totally agree..they will turn it around
They gotta rebuild that farm system..rebuild the roster which might take 3 years which means alot of empty seats. Takes time to build a winner.. their fans gotta be patient ...but the owner will have to ass well.. my stros were the worst team in 2014
@@PurelyBaseballYTjust because you are a fan first owner doesn’t mean you will go down as one of the best. Cohen signed scherzer and Verlander to massive deals, both aging veterans, and then shipped them away for some okay prospects, and they are still paying like half their contracts. How will Cohen go down as one of the best owners when this offseason for the Mets and what’s happened has been historically bad. Cohen gets way too much love, he’s also just a scummy piece of shit who should be in jail
He over paid for Lindor. Giving up young talent for getting him and over paying
on LIndor's contract when there was no need to sign him when he did. He should
have waited and signed him at the end of that season.
Imagine if he signed Carlos Corrrea? That would have been awful. And he was
about to sign him to a long term contract.
Lord that Correa contract would’ve been rough
..first time Brandon Nimmo has ever been called a Superstar
More so meant of what Cohen thought of Nimmo based off of that contract
nimmo would have over 80 rbis a year if he didnt lead off. Hes def a 3 hitter traditionally
When they pitched they didn’t hit, when they hit they didn’t pitch. Losing edwin was huge, and I can’t explain why we suddenly just fell flat in all aspects of the game.
This is June we’re talking about, we were pretty good in every other month. (Post trade deadline non-withstanding)
That pretty much summarizes it
Because to win in Baseball, you need character. You need to be able to edge out your opponent in pitching duels and play just a little bit sharper and grittier. In slug fest, you need to hang with the other team and eventually settle down and clinch the game at the end... It's mental and momentum based, and this team just couldn't launch and lacked the fortitude and determination to go for the Wildcard. Forget about the division, they gave up on that in May it seems.
Just go rewatch the Mets from their Championship years. THEY HAD GRIT AND CHARACTER. This current batch of Mets are soft and we need to get some aces and speedy gritty players again like Dyskstra and Backman.
@breadandcircuses8127no sport is about the best team always winning.
If the Mets were close to the talent the Braves had they would of held on max and Justin and retooled next year. But the Mets are so far behind in talent no money could of brought home the WS. So they did the right move. Now we have 5 prospects in the top 80 of the mlb. Let’s hope it works out.
I believe it’l workout in the longrun! Just gotta trust the process
They’re still retooling next year. If it was a full on rebuild they’d do more tanking. Still probably could’ve done something this year if they hung on to Verlander and Robertson.
Luck plays more of a role in baseball than in most other team sports. You can do everything right, and things still won’t pan out.
I think in the long run, Cohen’s willingness to pay the luxury tax is going to be good for baseball and great for the players.
I agree with you for sure.
In the Future, that mets team will be FUN.
Showalter's bullpen choices have been questionable since the 2016 AL wildcard
Facts
Personally, I think signing players to long term guaranteed contract makes them psychologically lazy. Players don't run hard to 1st base, players batting avgs are way down, pitcher's arms are coddled because of all the money they're making - they go 7 innings or 100 pitches, whichever comes first. That means they start getting tired in the 6th inning knowing they'll be out soon. Check the baseball stats of modern day pitchers compared to those of yesteryear. You can pitch for 17 years as a starter and leave with 12 complete games whereas those from the 60-70's had over 200 complete games. Today's pitchers are wimps! Modern day players are not hungry and to top it off, they're way more injury prone than years past!
We see it every year with these giant contracts. There just killers. Players now a days have all the potential in the world, but get killed by injury! Destroys them. Plus again, they get paid and lose that spark
Look at the difference in velocity and it becomes clear as to why this is the case. Throwing harder causes more damage to your arm.
I'm pretty sure the Braves are counter to this idea.
Don't think it's always lazy , you could throw in stress and millions of dollars of pressure and fans that will tell you your trash . Most people who make this kind of money know that they are not worthy of it on a very human level. It's like players getting the yipps ( pitcher can't throw to first ? Can't throw a strike ? )
You also forgot to mention Carlos Carasco throwing meatballs down the pike, The other pitcher they paid a lot for who had 4 months on the IL, with JV and then Max. What a ish show
Yea a rough place man rough stuff. Also yes haha there was even more I wanted to add but, didn’t wanna drag on
I'd like to thank the Met's for extending our winning streak to 6, ending at 7, and giving us at least something positive to watch.
Facts 🙏🙏🙏 saving mets fans hearts
Your growing so fast keep it up
Thanks my guy 🔥‼️
Now they're on a 5 game losing streak lol. As a Yankee fan this makes me laugh
Lmao it makes me laugh too
Yanks in da same boat. Don't wanna rebuild which means a couple of losing seasons
@@jamesroberts1810 oh I know. I'm critical on the yanks too
Great vid a bit painful to watch being g mets fan but facts don't lie
Aye man respect! Mets gotta farm going now tho 🙏🔥
The Mets need to reconsider their core. Get rid of Marte Vogelbach and Carrasco.
I agree, I think if your gonna sell so big, sell it all
I agree.
Volgeback is fatter than Bartolo Colon was lol
you have to do Athletics next😂😂 also keep up the good work i love the content!!
I like the video bro new subscriber but mark canha PHENOMENAL ARM? chill bro 😅 but great vid nonetheless
Haha thanks brother! Yes i oversaid to say the least lol
Im more of a football and basketball kinda guy but since its the offseason for both leagues im gonna try to watch and understand baseball
This owner sounds like the dan snyder of baseball
It was a sport that took me a bit in my life to get into! I highly recommend it.
Steve Cohen is basically an owner like Jesus lol. Any player you want, he gets. Anything the Stadium needs, it gets. Anything the team wants, he gets.
Love it METS TANKED OUT, not even CLOSE to showing up. Guess great borrowed pitching DIDNT HELP AT THE END.😅
Please do a video of the Phillies 🙏🙏🙏
I can't understand how having the best pitchers guarantees your going to win. Take for instance the Braves this year have the best record and half their pitchers have been injured or ineffective most of the season, but they lead the league in Home Runs and just about every hitting stat. You need great hitting, especially nowadays. Good pitching and consistency from your best pitchers only helps so much. 40yo Justin Verlander is not going to give you 6 run onslaught in a single inning, but he might be on the receiving end of it. That's where Steve Cohen failed to see.
Pitching is where you winning. The Braves are starting to learn that as well man trust me. If your pitchers are giving up 4-6 runs a game, your gonna lose a LOT more games. Your offense WILL have slow nights. Those are the ones you can win, with good pitching. In the post season, if you put up a bunch of 3 pitchers in a NLCS, your bound to lose.
Hope frank makes lives long enough for us to get a chip
🥲🥲 So do I
Go red sox❤
Go Sox!
I saw both the red sox and mets at fenway just a couple weeks ago - in a rain shortened game 😮 lol 😅
@@EmbraceTheStruggle24 Haha aye still awesome tho
@@PurelyBaseballYT definitely for sure ^_^ and as a Phillies fan it was really cool to see two ball clubs (I typically don't root for) in a stadium I visited for the first time.
@@EmbraceTheStruggle24 Of course! Thats always cool. I've only ever been to two ballparks, going down too Yankee Stadium for the first time with this upcoming Red Sox series
How about Mets, Jets, Islanders. Haven't seen a single one of my teams win anything, Ever. I was born December 86. Just missed the Mets and just missed the 4 straight Isles cups
Cohen had a plan all along get prospects
I wouldn’t say that but, im sure it was always a plan for if things went wrong! It works for sure
Pete. You deserve better. Demand a trade. This owner is not going to have your back. You would look great in a yankee uniform🎉
Chill on the Yankee uniform thing come on! (Comin from a red sox fan). Send him out to the other LA team come onnn!
@@PurelyBaseballYT 😹
That would never happen, Yankees not getting Pete and even in a fantasy world if they did get Pete they would loose judge
#prayforfrank
Im praying 🙏
😂 Absolute CLOWNS out there in the Metropolitain 😂
Thats what im sayin brother!
Eppler should be gone and bringing in Stearn is a big mistake.
The best 2 organizations are the Braves and the Dodgers ,look in those organizations and try to grab a executive who knows how to build a organization .
Steans claim to fame is Milwaukee in the playoffs 2018-2021 ,2nd worst division in Baseball only AL Central is worse.
Lindor is elite fukumean
Why do fans question his contract then
The mlb has finished the task of destroying the NY Mets, giving it,the message!,Example, the mets schedule, againt the Phillies, mixing AL,NL,thats has no sence, altering the game, forcing the players to do,something they don't want to do,implementing technology in the game, weaks rules, teams who has expend a fortune ,now are nothing, the mediocre ones, are the team to beat,MLB has fail,we call that, cheating a beautiful sport!🤔?
THIS IS NOT TRAGEDY. IT IS A FOOKIN GAME. THERE IS A WAR HAPPENING. LOTS OF PEOPLE ARE DYING AND MORE ARE STARVING. IF I HAD TO SELL THE ASTROS TO ANOTHER CITY TO ELIMINATE HOMELESNESS IN HOUSTON, I'D MAKE THAT DEAL.
I think your missing the point completely.. its a sports tragedy. I mean you think a billion dollars wasted isn’t a tragedy?
Weirdo
@@PurelyBaseballYT Haha, obviously.
1986 😂
2004, 2007, 2013, 2018. Yeah think we beat ya
Love when teams try to buy a championship and fail.
As we’ve seen every time it happens, a world series never happens out of it
They dont have that drive anymore, they know theyre getting paid now, $ secured...idk🤷🏾♂️
Yep, unfortunate reality of Sports right now
