  • At just 19 years old, Dwight Gooden was moved up to the majors and quickly became one of the best pitchers in the game as he would win rookie of the year in 1984. And in his follow up year in 1985, Gooden put up one of the best seasons any pitcher's ever had posting a 1.53 era in 276 innings to win the Cy Young. And in his third season he would be a massive part of the Mets winning the 1986 World Series. Gooden would still be effective throughout his career, but personal problems and overuse would hurt his career that was still one of the best in Mets history.
