David Wright was a very special player. I never saw a superstar that was more generous to the fans. Should have won a Rookie of the Year and MVP award.
As a Yankee fan, you not mentioning Mattingly is a crime. Mattingly in his prime was far better than Wright and a bit better that Tulo. The David Wright situation is heartbreaking. Always a class act. Always giving 100%. HE is The Captain. On his way to Cooperstown. He was all that is good about baseball. I'm glad I got to see him play.
My all time favorite Met!! He never quit and always came through. Humble, polite, hard working and a fierce warrior on the field. I can’t tell you how many games I went to where he got the clutch game winning hit. I really miss him. Definitely my favorite.

As a Mets fan watching his World Series home run in 2015 and his Retirement game are the 2 times I've cried when watching baseball. He'll always be my favorite player.
As a Braves fan, it was always fun to see Chipper Jones vs. David Wright. Such a fun thing to watch who would have the better game that night. Wright was a great ballplayer and always gave the game everything he had.
i was born the year david debuted in the majors, i got to grow up watching him and he was my favorite player as a kid and he still is my favorite player of all time, it makes me so sad that his career got cut short
People outside of NY really cant comprehend how much we loved David. That home run when he came back from injury is extremely emotional despite how it all ended. He remains the captain of his era.
Spinal Stenosis is lifelong if you have it. There is no cure. It could only be managed if you’re lucky. I should know. After many major spine surgeries and many new parts in my spine im definitely not suffering anymore. And that’s not guaranteed as patients with this condition age.
As a lifelong Mets fan who watched David Wright while I was growing up, I thought enough time had passed for me to watch a video like this... Thanks for doing a piece on my favorite ballplayer.
Favorite player ever! It was terrible watching his health decline like it did. He was the lone bright spot in the METS lineup for many years. He’ll always be the captain! LFGM!!!
Great video but you didn’t mention him getting hit in the head twice. Those arguably were massive turning points in his career, and that’s a huge oversight. There’s big belief that really hurt his career
People just do not understand how miserable you are when you are suffering from back pain. My injuries were sustained in the Marine Corps. I had back surgery, pain in both hips going down my legs and was also diagnosed with spinal stenosis. Little things that you take for granted like taking a shower, putting your pants, shoes, and walking is all miserable with pain. As a NY Mets fans it’s hard to see such an amazing player and leader succumb to these injuries. Hopefully the Mets will keep him on as a coach. He would be a great future NY Mets manager,

As a Braves fan I always respected Wright and did not want him at the plate against ATL. The game of baseball was a better place when he was doing his thing in NY
Let's not forget the April 19th, 2011 game against the Astros where he dove to tag out Carlos Lee and fractured his spine. He continued to play until they diagnosed the injury. He was and ever will be a legend.
I felt the Mets did Wright a disservice when they built Citi Field. Ownership was so enamored of the Brooklyn Dodgers, they built a stadium that their generational player couldn’t hit the ball out of. Look at the dimensions of that place when it opened. It was like they purposefully wanted another Ebbets Field. That being said, I don’t see him as a HOFer. Hall of Very Good, sure. Mets Wall of Fame, of course.

In a fair world he would've been healthy his entire career and a first ballot HOFer. The same thing almost happened to Joe Mauer but he was lucky enough to have a second career at 1st base.
If one is a good-enough hitter one can usually be moved to first base as speed declines or the risks of injuries overpower one's defensive value. So it was with Ernie Banks, Rod Carew, Johnny Bench, Mike Schmidt, George Brett, Pete Rose, Carl Yastrzemski, and Al Kaline.
