I tried your kick serve tips today on the tennis court and they work! Only thing is they're not very powerful serves - is it just a case of hitting it harder? This I find difficult if I'm brushing the ball.
Best kick serve instruction out there and I have seen many videos demonstrate this. None of the others address the bent or straight arm after contact as being straight like Federer or bent like Thiem. So when I was dong it straight arm, I thought all this time I was doing it wrong. I wanted to add a few more things, after I originally posted this yesterday. All of these other videos talk about having to throw the ball into the court, but this instructor makes a point that you might want to throw the ball over your head above the baseline instead of throwing it out in the court. He explains all that. That's another aspect of the kick serve that people get hung up on.
Most complete and accurate demonstration of kick serve I’ve ever seen. I’m excited to try this technique. I have all other serves except kick which as alluded me! Thanks
Just spent a few days watching kick serve vids on RUclips - this is about the 20th I've watched. It is also THE BEST. You are very clear on the many aspects and attributes from ball toss, to torso rotation, to racquet direction, etc. Thank you, much appreciated.
Great video! You give a detailed explanation of how to hold the racquet, the stance, the toss, where to contact the ball and where to finish. I have not seen all of these components in one video before. Plus, you reassure the rec player how long it takes to learn and how difficult it is but yet give encouragement to stick with it as a long term goal.
By far, THE best video breakdown of the quick serve I’ve seen. I really appreciated the explanation of ball toss position and the arm hitting trajectory.
Thank you very useful Nick, can you please make a video about how to place the ball on a serve (any type of serve), I always struggle to place the ball where I want to..:((
I could not figure out why my kick serve was more like a slice. I used a ball with different colors and noticed how it was spinning. You explained it clearly. I find the hardest part is getting the correct contact with the arm going diag. and the racket getting the topspin. I was having my arm go with baseline and not getting any power. Practice time!
Another great serve video with thorough explanation. I particularly like then side view to see how forward into the court the toss needs to be when using more body.
Definitely among the best explanations of this serve that I find difficult to execute. I'll remember this video when I go out to practice next time. Good stuff!
I'm not sure why I am just finding your videos. I thought I had watched every RUclips instructional tennis video out there. Yours are the best. Thank you.
After watching hundreds of videos on kick serve with half baked info, I landed up her and this one just enlightened me and cleared all my doubts. This guy is a gem of a coach. Thanks for sharing all the minute nitty gritty which other instructors normally hide.
Watched so many Kick Serve videos- yours is certainly among the best. Very detailed already. Mayn explanations that you do not find anywhere alese. Looking forward for version 2 !
Good breakdown of all the elements of the kick , I really like the difference between top players vs us recreational players, like the toss (inside the court for top level vs overhead for us. A lot of teaching pros have us mimic top pros but we don't have all the other elements necessary to make that shot.
Hi Nikola. Great video. Especially the point you make about recreational players not needing to throw the ball into the court. This helps me a lot with my kick serve. Thank you!
Wow...by far the best lesson video I have come across on kick serve..and I have seen so many!! You explained everything so well without making the video toooo long. Thanks for uploading such an awesome video Nick!! 👍
This is the best kick serve lesson I have seen. You hit several points I’ve not seen from other coaches. Thanks much. Can’t wait to try it on the court.
Your videos on the kick serve have really helped me to greatly improve this serve. You provide very clear cues, that really cleaned up and gave my kick serve incredible consistency. Thank you!
Hi Nikola from Greece! I am relatively new recreational player and i constanly seek for tennis information on the internet. Your videos are very helpful and way much more good and efficient from most other videos. Could you make something for the slice serve? Keep up the good work. Thanks.
Odličan video kao i ostali koji se nalaze na vašem kanalu. Sve pohvale! Great instructions and step by step details which are easy to follow. I improve my serve significantly after I foolow your video. Keep up with good work.
I really like your explanation. Too many old instructions just makes no sense. We were taught to drop racket to scratch our back. But that makes my arm working harder and took longer for my racket to get to the ball.
That was a very informative lesson Nick. I have to develop a kick serve because I’m one of those people who taps the ball on my second serve and I also double fault way too much. I can’t tell you how many matches I lost because of double faults. At my age I now play mostly doubles ( men’s and mixed) and it’s embarrassing for me to give away points and matches because of double faults. Hopefully I’ll see some improvement watching and studying this video. Thanks for sharing this and all your videos.
I have to tell you: While trying to use your instructions, The first serves I got in were huge. They didn't really kick , but they were fast and usually resulted in a service winner. I am working on the diag swing and the path of the follow thru. You are the best.
You are just an excellent instructor, I am very impressed and very glad I found you. There are so many so-called instructors which are BS-ing and just fishing for cash.
the most well described kick serve lesson. i do like how you relate your lessons to current tour pros.. well, we try to imagine ourselves a little bit like them ;). it's going to take awhile for me to absorb and practice some of what you've said; thanks for the clearer, better understanding :)
it's very useful when the pros' variations and your preference are shown by you, otherwise we're usually confused by what we see on tv. a rare insight. you would've made my tennis life easier years ago! thank you.
Nick. I just watched your video on the kick serve and although I’m four years late I’m very glad I did. That’s the best explanation I’ve seen and I’ve watched watched a lot of RUclips videos. thanks for your excellent work.
Really enjoyed the video, great content and superb quality. I liked the side camera gave a real idea of the toss. This was the first video I've found of your channel, I'll definitely watch others!
Another greatly detailed video. Thanks and I appreciate the way you explain all your lessons which have helped my game (4.). Would also like to get a video on the distance you hit the service ball in relation to where the toe is on the baseline. Would also like an idea of where the ball is struck in relation to forehands and backhands. In any case keep up with all the details you imprint on your videos. The best
John, thank you. Here are some other videos where I discuss the above mentioned topics. ruclips.net/video/2M9XGR-b5Y4/видео.html ruclips.net/video/rSPc480H9uo/видео.html ruclips.net/video/ceOnxq1QLss/видео.html
Great explanation. I have been trying and following some other instructions but have always been hitting it to thin with no power because I have been trying to swing across the base line. I was always getting it in with lots of spin but no pace at all! This swing path explanation is excellent.
Nice video. I am surprised you recommend flat serves before kick to beginners. Once I learned kick, it made me so relaxed so that even on days if my flat serve is off I can rely on the kick to stay in the game. If it's not a croatian secret, how is the leg thrust on the kick serve? In your legs video, you talk about how snapping/twisting the torso propels the feet off the ground, but most kick serves you stay more sideways... to my eyes, it seems like pros drive into the court w/ flat serves whereas w/ kick they get more air under their feet. Is it more leg usage in kick?
Like many others I thought I had seen and been following the best of tennis instruction online, but I was wrong......these may be the best of all! Great detail keep them coming. Just found you but do you have progression drills for your online lessons?
Sounds like a progression drills video is coming great! One last question on the second serve (and first I suppose) do you recommend having a specific target to land the serve?
Always love your clear explanation of the reasoning behind the way of doing things, and provide the different options for players to determine the best for themselves. Thanks very much!
Hi Nick, Awesome video! As far as staying sideways is concerned, the best trick is to keep and finish with the racket on the side of your hitting arm after contact with the ball. As a right-handed player, I'm always focused on finishing on the right side with the racket pointing down next to my right leg. This is very helpful in particular for recreational players who tend to turn the torso too early, including myself, if the racket does not finish on the side of your dominant arm. Keep up the good work! Best wishes, Joern
I like your mention about kick on the deuce side. I'm a recreational player and I didn't know that is so difficult to produce kick on the deuce side. I'm happy now :). Another great vide. Hvala. Question is should I stay with common topspin second serv in deuce side? Yes, kick down to T is powerful services because produce high ball to righty player on his BH.
Hi Ron, check my latest video on the second serve. There’s actually a big difference in speed. And yes it can be used as a first serve. ruclips.net/video/U39OzzOxaMM/видео.html
Hallo Nikola. Great video. I watch multiple trainers on RUclips and you are also a valuable complement. I have Question: sometime my kickserves have not enough forward momentum and go into the net. Top notch and clear instruction Nick !

Thank you Krwler

Hi Dmitry, yes if you are doing a stationary second serve (Kick) don’t toss in front. 👍👍

Depends on your level, if you are not consistent with kicker aim for middle of the box. First serve you can be more advantageous
