A lot of people are up in arms about the vocalist, but I think its really interesting and well done. I wish I could see it live to get the full experience.
tcas55406 One of the problems is that she is a bad vocalist. Wouldn't she bring the score down? But the concept of having a 4 minute solo is way too much for drum corps. Notice the lack of applause after the singer finishes. It's just not working. Bad choice for them this year. They can't win with this show. unfortunately. Because the rest of the music is fantastic, with that great opening.
I don't think people dislike it as a stand alone thing but no one goes to a DCI show to hear vocals. You can go to many other events to hear vocals but you can't go anywhere else to hear the beautiful sound of brass in this fashion. So to many people, myself included, its ruining this rare experience.
To me, the problem with the vocalist is that she almost takes over the second half of the show. If she were used more sparingly and then transitioned the melody to the brass, I would really enjoy the vocal addition to the show. For instance, I would love to hear a beautiful brass solo in For Good.
MegaWellsfargo This is the consensus reason. It's the fact that she takes over the second half. It's just WAY too much. It's as if the designers copped out and didn't want to write more show.
The problem is the balance between the vocalist and brass. It's not that she is a bad vocalist...the two layers just do not work. It is has an un-organic feel about it. It would sound so much better through a brass soloist. Not her fault, DCI just can't pull off electronics well. It is always jarring and unbalanced sounding. Electronics are not bad, everyone just fails with them! They are an amazing corps with killer chops btw.
Yeah if voice is done in a way that enhances what the brass is doing, or helps to sell the theme....then it's fine. But if it's covering up the brass, that's just silly. Like I've seen some high school band shows that use a bass guitar....I'm like, teach the tubas how to play their horns and you won't need added electronic bass lol :) I like the singer in this show, but I also get what people are saying. Crown has easily had the best brass line in the past 5 years....so people definitely don't come to hear a singer, when they come to see Crown.
I wonder how they will transition the fireworks to their indoor show? Did not know they were legal in dci shows, but with all this wgi aspects now..who knows
There's a difference between adding vocals to the show and making the entire second half of the show focus primarily on vocals... I hope they change it, the hornline sounds fantastic but I want to hear more of it. This is Drum and Bugle Corps, not Drum, Bugle, and Vocal Corps. I don't object to them having vocals in the show, but I think they went too far. This is entirely my opinion, and in the end It Is completely their choice, but it seems to be getting a lot of criticism so we'll see how it turns out.
crown has long been a storytelling corps or at least has had a solid theme in their shows (e=mc^2 and relentless and inferno etc...) but lately with the success of the abstract programs (tilt downside up etc) you see corps trying to expand the rules and ideas of drum corps which isn't a bad thing I just think crown is strong in traditional-ish instrumentation not vocals and electronics and that they should stick to it
With the last minute worked on none of the other corps can touch this. It has to have better moment than some girl screaming into the microphone. It is getting tight and remember that Crown is known for kicking an ending by finals.
Back the chick out from the mic and set up some reverb, i know the effect they are going for. Back her up from the mic some, that'll solve some balance issues instantly.
What a shame. One of the greatest openers in recent DCI history ruined soon after with the awful singing. That can't be the best singer they could have found. I wonder if she's the daughter one of the design team. She should be judged by the same standards as the brass. And if that were so, she would bring the score way down.
someone nutted at 9:39
TBG also at 2:47 😂😂
TBG
😆THAT'S THE BEST PART OF THIS SHOW 👏👇😆
💦😉👌⏰ing☺💦
TBG Could y'all turn those sections into looped beats or funny memes?
hahahhhahhaha
HAHAHAHAA
That opener tho.
I KNEW THAT WAS FOR GOOD FUCK YEAH WITH THE WICKED REFERENCES
LK Powell the song is from wicked lol
ANy one else think this is a huge change from 2016?
jakemf1 HUGE. But not exactly for the better.
Perhaps it is the start of the season and they will evolve the show! The last 2 years were killer this can't be the finals show!!
jakemf1 It is.
jakemf1 I couldn't resist saying that. 😂 I love Crown so much. 💖
A lot of people are up in arms about the vocalist, but I think its really interesting and well done. I wish I could see it live to get the full experience.
tcas55406 It's amazing live

Okay I know everyone is hating on the vocalist but For Good is my corps' song and I literally could not be happier.

AMEN! If this was in another context, would be ok, but does not work for DCI.
What's with the 2 tuba holes?
Wait..where is the crown set
The beginning. Towards the end of the opener

Also, I forgot to mention that I absolutely love the show's first half.

MegaWellsfargo One of the greatest openers ever.
a lot of people last year were like I don't really like Crown's show this year but I loved this show
What section was this filmed in?

lasthiker77 um, actually she is bad. Unless she simply can't hear herself. Because her intonation and tone quality is often not good at all.
Skipped the whole ballad.
Cool :) The person who posted this vid celebrated the holiday w/ Crown :) I can't wait to see what this show looks like at finals.
I wonder how they will transition the fireworks to their indoor show? Did not know they were legal in dci shows, but with all this wgi aspects now..who knows
I can't even tell if you're joking....
Lmao
Jon Robbins it was the Fourth of July...
Chuffy Master ummm, hey Sheldon, it's known as sarcasm
Jon Robbins well you see it's pretty hard to see sarcasm through TEXT

Blue Knights are the pinnacle of Abstract shows
I wouldn't mind the vocalist so much if she didn't overstay her welcome

Why ruin a perfectly peaceful sound from the corps and responding audience hand claps, with yelling into the microphone?
It's called music. If you could imagine, there is a theme going on with the vocals, tonality, and structure of what they played.
With the last minute worked on none of the other corps can touch this. It has to have better moment than some girl screaming into the microphone. It is getting tight and remember that Crown is known for kicking an ending by finals.
As usual, a great hornline. As compared to several previous years. this show is not one of my favorites.
Why, why, why with the best horns in DCI do they give a solo to a crappy singer? That's at least a 10 point hit. Cut it please.
It is at the beginning and then as soon as the vocals start the show's title is "It isn't." Just a purely poor choice.
I love you crown, but it's true too much vocals. We want more drum core and less singing.
Back the chick out from the mic and set up some reverb, i know the effect they are going for. Back her up from the mic some, that'll solve some balance issues instantly.
7.8 out of 10 too much vocalist

I hate the vocals so much😒 I thought this was Drum Corp not Disney
You thought wrong.
Poetry_in_motion_ pkfr apparently it is Disney, then? Lol.
Awful
