- Hello everyone, hope you guys are feeling fabulous! this was a bit of a niche topic away from my typical coaster ones but I do really enjoy talking about obscure things so here we go!
I don't think its that bad like everyone says. It definitely needs some tweaks but this is the best iteration so far because its original and doesn't rely on VR LMAO
As always any feedback is welcome but try to be kind about it because I am a sensitive cow thanks x

I only rode the Ghost Train for the first time last year. It only took as long as the station master introducing himself as “Angelis Mortis” for me to roll my eyes so hard that both of my retinas detached. It’s an interesting ride, but it’s about as subtle as a brick.

Ah the Ghost Train, the dark ride with ambition being the tragic part of being far ahead of its time but stuck in a messy operation. Removing the Train through the tunnel effect was a mistake. I went on the absolute worst day the ride opened.
@@thecinematicmind aw that must have been so cool! Its a shame they lost the infection type of storyline I feel like thats quite unique to a ghost train. Idk what they were cooking up with the fracking though LMAO
Knowing this is Thorpe Park's only "dark ride" shows that there really is a huge hole in their lineup, a real shame because when it comes to scare attractions theirs is the most complete honestly!

Although yes it has elements of dark ride attractions like the rooms with actors and such, it is 100% an indoor rollercoaster more than a dark ride.
Thank you for this. It was one of the funniest rides I have ever been on. While my friends were freaking out behind me I was trying not to sound like a mad woman laughing my ass off at the premise.
Those poor scare actors. I'm sorry truly. I just couldn't deal with the corniness..

@Q4Coasters Oh no sorry I didn't see the reply! Sorry for the late response. To be honest the nun bit starting happening I accepted my fate to be in a demented production of The Sound of Music. The actors are amazing, as good actors usually are. It just needs a less convulted plot. I still think TP missed a trick by not making an honorary Witch's Haunt ride and making up a myth for the famous fire. Alton Towers would. They did ... Hex....

GENUINELY I went on it for the first time a couple days ago and I spent the whole experience stifling a laugh
yea. as a person who learned about roller coaster and attraction engineering: we were taught not to do this lol. Purely because there's too many variables. What if a person is in a wheelchair? the ride will be slower. Also, it is based mostly on plot and lore which means, if you weren't already knowing a million and one things already, you;ll feel lost and confused. nemisis is great as there's videos to keep you invested during the line as well as making you hyped for the actual ride. And then you're literally led along while strapped into a chair.
@@t.j.johnsonthewriter totally with you on this its very hard to maintain and keep the same consistency because as you and I said the amount of variables and things that can go wrong are nuts. It could work (maybe) but they should make it easier to understand and make better use of the indoor sections they have! I’m not to sure as to how the walking dead puts me on edge and ghost train doesn’t. Probably the loud noises!

Great video!!! One of thorpes most expensive investments ever, Derren brown himself is brilliant but the attraction never really worked and now that the hook has gone it’s even worse now

i do really miss the derren brown theming, i sadly never got to go on his one, but remove the vr and it looked like it would've been cool, the fracking story was cool and i loved the posters outside
there were a few things that made derren's one better, like the floating train effect, and the new one just doesn't feel as loved, it looked like a lot of effort was put into the old ones and this just feels like a quick rebranding to get it open again, the flip board in the showroom is really cool but everything else looks to be the same but just slightly worse
idk how to describe it, but derren's one felt so much more lively but intimidating, with background knowledge of what he does, it really made it feel a lot scarier than it probably was and if they just changed it away from the vr but keeping everything else i bet it would've worked just as well
@@criticalboot2567 totally agree either with you theming wise! But reliability is better on the new one. I never did the og and rise of the demon because it was always closed 😭
I really liked Derren Brown's Ghost Train, but the new cersion left me cold. There was no real plot, and the only "scares" came from the actors randomly shouting words from their scripts and stomping across the train carriage to startle us. The crypt room was cool, but it seemed to have no link to what was happening on the train. The only scare that really made me scream was when one of the actors appeared in front of me suddenly wearing a scary mask...an effect ruined when i realised it was a mask of Valek from The Nun. Something else that has no link to the train! At least Derren Brown's Ghost Train had a storyline. It felt like such a missed opportunity. And such a shame, because i adore dark rides, especially spooky dark rides.
To be honest I never did the first one because it was never working! I think dropping the IP was definitely a good idea because then they have more room to be creative!
The Script is now VERY story heavy I'm not sure if they were like not wearing mics or you couldn't hear them properly but there is a lot of story, almost to the point where it gets a bit ridiculous. I agree that a lot of it isn't coherent but the reliability is better now for sure!
But of course everyone is allowed to have their own opinion and if you liked the previous iteration that's totally fine keep girlbossing it! ahaha
either they should rework the whole area it’s in and build a coaster + possibly a flat ride or they should clear out the ghostrain and build a dark ride like the one at alton towers
As I take an interest in Victorian and Edwardian railways, I can indeed confirm that a Midland RailwayNorth Eastern Railway clerestory coach would not look like a London Undergroud train on the inside. I like that they chose a vintage railway carriage, but I don’t know why the interior didn’t match.

Personally I think the problem lies more with guest expectation, unless you are making the next biggest rollercoaster that cost £15 million with 2km squares worth of space, you need experiment with different ideas, at the time of Ghost Trains construction, Thorpe Park didn't have the space for a new rollercoaster so they had to branch out a bit on a new type of experience that wasn't done (in the UK at least) before. I rode Ghost train for the first time this year and I rather enjoyed it, a fun ride I wouldn't mind doing again, kind of like a more grown up version of Hocus Pocus Hall back at Chessington when that was around.

You say Thorpe Park and dark ride my mind instantly goes to Wicked Witches Haunt!!. Awesome video! It's Interesting seeing what's there now. I wasn't a fan of ghost trains/spook houses as a kid but I absolutely adored Thorpe Parks old dark ride Wicked Witches Haunt. So sad it burnt down. Still think they should have made a dark ride themed like the witches revenge, have a burnt/undead witch causing havoc :D.

@@Q4Coasters yes!! There are videos of the ride. It makes use of the peppers ghost effect, had spooky knights, king henry, a skeleton seance. Hmmm looking at dates, WickedWitch burned down in 2000, Nemesis was built in 2003. Apparently, The Detonator now lives in Wicked Witches old spot :)
I've been on all versions of the train. The one with the Victorian train with the chains was the best. Also, last time i was on it, some random person dumped a can of coke on my head in the dark, lol. 😂

Another really good video. I kinda wished thorpe had a proper dark ride like curse at alton Manor. I do think it is because dark rides don't make as much money as a record breaking coaster.
yeah of course totally agree with you pal! but at the same time you and I both enjoy dark rides like curse, thorpe could really like lean into their older audience and do a scary dark attraction! something that isn't actor based haha.
But it is definitely something they are missing for sure. I like dark rides because they help break up the day and its a good thing to do after lunch or when it rains!

Strange you mention about teenagers. We noticed the same thing last year and it was during the ghost train ride. The chavs really does put me off going in future

@@Q4Coasters yeah actually it was roadmen wannabes. We’d queued for ages and then couldn’t hear the pre show as they kept shouting and swearing. You don’t seem to get roadmen at Alton Towers, so prefer to go there.

The ride is only 15 minutes for most run throughs although if there are enough delays 25 mins in possible, also I will say that I think the current storyline is bad, it should incorporate a ghost train, not some goofy ahh little last train tomfoolerry. Why can't the train line be haunted by ghosts from a train crash or plaguepits.

@@Q4Coasters Oh absolutely, my idea has always been to revert it to being 'underground' as it creates a more tense atmosphere as you are in a more confined space although that may be my train nerd side squeezing through. The effects imo don't need too much tweaking as they are actually pretty decent for such small spaces

Darren Brown got so much flack for the ride… I feel bad honestly, Ghost Train’s current iteration seems pretty good compared to the original

Unfortunately its fairly weak as far as dark rides go, the likes of curse at alton manor and nemesis sub terra are just better ride experiences, hopefully thorpe can find a way to make it better
@@bradster990 very true! Sub-terra does the dark ride/actual ride hybrid quite well I think! Definitely a better example of a sensory overload. Id say it’s better to look at ghost train as an experience rather than a dark ride gahaha

i think it’s a great attraction if you get good days like actors like becca running the acting but you have good points like you should have mentioned more about the forgotten ending and the death effect (great vid tho)

It's an interesting one, because I kind of feel that Thorpe Park and other British theme parks are a bit confused as to who their target audience is. At least with Alton Towers, it's heavily marketed as a family theme park, whereas I can't say the same for Thorpe Park. On paper, it makes sense to open a ride aimed at older audiences, but I can't help but feel the ride was kind of doomed from the start. It's not a traditional ghost train, it uses VR which is a huge gamble and it relies on actors (which don't get me wrong is cool, but it also makes the margin for problems to increase dramatically). I feel as if Thorpe Park would have benefitted from something more aimed for families, such as a family coaster. I could ramble on but I've written enough already...

That was its original iteration! Its like a 24/7 scare maze now. Or like an actor led experience. Thorpe are the only park in the UK that arent for like families I guess, they are more for teens and adults! Which I like because there are too many family parks here gahaha
@@Q4Coasters Ah, my bad. It's funny how VR just has not worked for the UK parks at all, like with Galactica, but it seems to work well everywhere else in the world. And when you say it's a walk through attraction now (or like one anyway), is it similar to the Halloween walk through attractions that other UK theme parks offer?
@@watermellonman no it’s definitely not as good as our like fright nights events. I’m not sure why though! The actors do a fabulous job the script they have to work with is just doodoo. The soundtrack is good too :)

Merlin is awful with dark rides, they are now retheming the last big dark ride we had in Italy, apparently it is going from a dark cinematic Pirate-like attraction to a "Disney inspired" cartoony adventure. I dread the day I get to see it, I am going to be so so so mad.

@@Q4Coasters I don't think that's the standard I'm thinking about 😂 quite a few people mention Curse as one of the best dark rides Merlin built, but it's really mid (I have only seen videos tbh). I don't believe they have the talent in-house to achieve good results (or the wrong people are working at these projects if they do have valuable creatives in there)

Instead of the projection of Derren Brown and the ouija board I think they had some TVs and which played static, with Angleis Mortis popping up and then a scare from the faceless nun instead of the demon. Last time I did it they just ushered us out through the corridor behind the fake gift shop :(

@@Q4Coasters I’ll say it can be a good attraction when it’s fully staffed but sometimes they’re on skeleton crew :(. Can’t say anything bad about doing the horror acting there though! Had a great time!

I prefer this new version i think its better than it originally was they have not got any space for a proper dark ride they used to have a good one many years ago but sadly burnt by a fire that was opened as the phantom fantasia later wicked witches haunt the ride system is not the same because its mostly actors performing in front of you

your telling the ghost train story for dbgt dbgt story was not the same story was ghost train there was no believers and final train in dbgt and the ride is part of illusion thats why the inside of the train carriaghe is a tube train and the other is a victorian train carriage there was
@@themeparkplanet3210 I know they aren’t the same story! I just briefly went over it before I talked about rise of the demon. The first iteration was about fear! There just were no pov videos of it because it ran for just short of a year!
Sorry if it felt like I didn’t explain it properly the video material for the ride is pretty sparse because its not allowed. Even if it was an illusion its a bit strange they should have carried the victorian style inside and out most people don’t even notice it changes lmao

When the ride first opened I was actually a fan of Darren Brown and I was really wanting to try the ride. Then the ride closed for a while and I realized Darren faked almost all of his specials that I fell in love with... That was a pretty disappointing time.

Tidal wave is class and a must need the all point of the rode is to get wet and soaking so when people are going on moaning or wearing cloaks like wtf that's the fun part of the ride getting soaked. If you don't like water or guna act like wet fish don't go on I say!

I feel like the issue with This dark ride is whilst its not bad on its own merits. The dark ride concept was done better. 16 years prior and a few extra hours up the road.
Hex - The Legend of the Towers at Alton Towers is probably my favourite ride ever. There is something magical about it. How the story was born from an old legend, A story of Natural vs the supernatural, almost shrouded in truth.
It's just a more believable story, because parts of the story are real.
The Earl of Shrewsbury's family is real. Alton Towers is real and it was once the home for the earl of Shrewsbury and the Chained Oak tree IS REAL. You can visit it in person on a quiet forest path about a mile out from Alton Towers.
Not to mention Witchcraft was a pervasive fear in the 15th Century. Possibly giving more credence to the story.
All of this just seems to elevate the story it is trying to tell. the queue line, to the walkthrough section to my favourite part.
The ride itself. goddamn the theme music for that ride is so good.
For anyone that has not ridden Hex. I will not spoil. Do not spoil it for yourself as you will be missing out.
Every time I have rode it I have stared at the faces of people. there is always someone who is riding it for the 1st time and has no idea what to expect.
But seriously that theme tune is so good. I even reached out to the composer Crispin Merrell to thank him for his work and he replied personally after a while
@@DiscreetHobo Hex is also closed and has been for nearly 2 years, also its like 5 hours from thorpe so its not exactly accessible. The story is good but not everything has to be based off of true story
Also you are comparing a vekoma madhouse to a actor led experience. They aren’t even close in experience :,)
@Q4Coasters I was probably being a little too biased in my love for Hex. (Hope that reopens soon)
Being actor led has its own challenges and I keep forgetting that Thorpe Park is known for its fright night mazes and events so its no surprise that Ghost train would be actor led as well.
I've only been on Ghost train once since opening despite visiting the park multiple times and that was during the Rise of the Demon incarnation of the ride. And whilst I enjoyed it. I don't really remember much about it other than the shot of the train suspended by chains.
I think what separates the 2 is the difference between the Vekoma Madhouse and the VR experience.
I own A VR headset and am very familiar with them so I think the magic is lost a little with me as I have my "VR sealegs"
I think because of this It just didn't have as much impact for me as it would for people who aren't familiar. As well as being compared to the real illusion the madhouse presents.
I still can't get that feeling out of my head. Weirdly enjoyable
Its like hex breaking alot as its very complicated to fix i would presume but did hex ever succeed or fail miserbly?
I mean I think it succeeded until the last two years haha poor hex :(
I one of those that probably ruins these types of rides as when i did alton towers scar maze i was looking at my surroundings and noticed bits where people came out, one of the actors popped out to make me jump but i saw them in the shadows and just went boo back then they went for my gf and i joked saying oii thats my girlfriend keep away. So ever since then i haven't done anything like this as i feel i ruin the experience for others.

I'm from the US so I've never heard of Derren Brown. I thought you said "Dan Brown" like the author. I was a little confused but it wasn't the worst branding I'd ever seen.😅 😅😅

I feel bad because once I was calling one of the boy characters shirley to my friend and the actor heard so in the crypt room he pulled me over and said in character i was ruining it for others

I only did rise of the demon once and I did actually enjoy it just never felt the need to ever do it again but the one time I did it I had a good run through, no vr issues and as soon as the demon wolf thing walked past me an actor brushed my legs which really added to the immersion.
With Ghost train I've done it once and never again, can't fault the actors but it was soo cringey half of the experience was just actors waving their arms around with nothing really happening, I will say I think off the train the rest of the attraction is improved and the story is a bit better and the see it say it sorted gag made me chuckle.
Rise of the demon 5/10

Honestly my favourite experience kinda dark ride in the country whilst hex is closed is sub-terra I give that a 7.5/10.
I'll be in thorpe park for 2 days in September. Will be my first and probably last time because I'm not from the UK. Is Ghost Train worth doing at least once or should I just ride Nemesis inferno again?
@@d4m4s74 if its a short queue go for it but I really wouldn’t wait longer than 20 minutes for it. If you run out of things to do sure but you can go without it :)

I only got to 3:13 before I had to stop. I felt so cringe just looking at that Ghost Train ride. Horrible, lackluster, VR HEADSETS??? Your video is fine, it's the damn ride and the concept of it that is terrible and even the cheapest theme park should be ashamed to ever produce something that is essentially a walk-through haunted house.

Weirdest ride ever, never did original vr but the current version is absolutely pointless and the acting and storytelling was awful. It could have been so much better

@@Combinemetrocop I think its a two edged sword! Its more reliable than it was. But it also relies on the quality of the actors more than anything now which leads to a lack of consistency. I will take an original IP over an unoriginal one 9/10 times :)
