Likely because it isn't really fair, unless they are given something to counter it like water or a platform. The idea of a trial by combat is to bring the gods into it via two champions who ideally would be on equal standing.Idea and practice have a strange relationship but even if a squire fights an experienced knight there is a chance in seven hells that a sword is well placed and somehow the squire gains the upper hand, then obviously the gods have chosen the champion's cause was in the right.

Rhaegar hadn't fathered a bastard, yet? You've got a point but Robert gave it to anyone woman who he liked and wanted it. Rhaegar likely could've had half the kingdom if he wanted it,many times over but he largely stayed loyal to his wife and as far as we know only cheated on her with someone else who had captured his heart/attention,where all it took for Robert was being pretty and he was out on the races.

I'm just saying that it was kinda hypocritical of her to say that... Granted, she only slept with one man. So, I give her that. I blame rheygar the most but, come the fuck on... You couldn't send a raven to your dad, lyanna? Anything could of been good... To let your family know you weren't kidnapped? Or, in danger? Yknow? Just saying...

    • @Brandonhayhew

I bet lyanna seduced Rhaegar, after he found about her being the mystery knight. Her hypocrisy of running away with a married man is just kinda makes her more foolish then Robert and even her brother Brandon just sleeps with other noble girls like Robert is okey but seduces married man like Rhaegar is just makes her foolish enough. If I were ned, i would just abandon them behind or ask father to forget about the all the marriage pact promises never join the south, then leave the north behind for Robert.

@@Brandonhayhew Ned would likely have figured he'd be told to shut up by his father with ambition. Which he likely would've been,he wasn't the lord of Winterfell. Just the quiet wolf Ned Stark and being a son to someone meant obedience was expected which neither Brandon or Ned would ever dare to go against. Lyanna didn't like the match but if not for Harrenhal she likely would've gone through with it for her father.

    • @Brandonhayhew

@@alaricdelano8159 game of thrones is a deconstruction it's takes fantasy tropes and ground them into reality, Martin deconstructed honourable and good man wins but it definitely does not works and it backfires at Ned when he showed mercy to cersei, Jaime trying to honor cat but eventually in the books (spoiler alert) meets as lady stoneheart, and I think Rickard stark father of proud 4 kids but in reality they are a 4 disappointment kids his got.
Brandon hot heated but a moron who lead to his own death and his father, dishonorable womanizer but at least that it was all his good at for it.
Lyanna beautiful and free spirit girl, her match to Robert was perfect for alliance expect her betrothal was already got a bastard, and she runaway that caused the death of her family.
Ned a quiet and shy type son but another disappointment, he was not gifted nor good looking like his siblings, he was to be friends with lord of vale and stormland, he was foolish and honourable blind, which would lead to him making bad decisions.
Benjen younger son, he was gonna join the nights watch for honour, but many of us believe why he joined was because he helped his sister to runaway with rhaegar, that's why he joined the nights watch.
If there were any afterlife then Rockard would be busy beating up his two kids lya and brandon?

Same with Tywin, if you think about it. Tywin only speaks when it’s necessary to gain power and further his position. Think of the Farman rebellion after the Reyne-Tarbeck rebellion. Rather than send a raven or a messenger, Tywin sends a bard to play The Rains of Castamere to intimidate the Farmans into submission, while using no words. But Ned is a man of honour, disgusted with Robert’s desire for Daenerys’s death, and the rape and murder of Elia Martel under Tywin’s orders.

It is clearly why, alongside the fact than Ned wife is from the south, than he seem to teach to his sons to be kind of like knights (though without the whole tourney thing and hypocrisy) and have pride of it.

At around 0.40 you said "problably for the first time a northern lord was trying to get closer with southern rulers"
    is unfortunately incorrect:
House Stark has had multible intermarriages with southern houses, such as Blackwood, Royce (branch house confirmed but unknown if main house too) and Rogers. While it can be argued that they don't count due to not being ruling houses over their region, House Stark has also had ties with the Arryns from the days of Aegon the conqueror due to having a daughter of Brandon Stark, the king who knelt, marry Ronne Arryn, the king who flew (though it was because the Targaryens wanted it).
Much later, the son of Cregan stark, rickon. died fighting for the Targaryens in Dorne, cementing that there were close ties at the time.
Likevise, other houses have linke dwith the south several times across Westerosi history:
House Manderly provided a hand for the throne (almost joined by marriage too) and also held a son a son of house Sunderland hostage after it rebelled.
House Dustin twice hosted Aegon I targaryen when he toured westeros, it's highly unlikely that he didn't bond with them at the time. Similarly they also hosted a tourney for Jaeharys and Alysane targaryen when they travelled to the north.
