I make these out of old silk (or cotton-silk blend) sarees. Sometimes, if the fabric is too light, I'll hem the bottom edge with bias tape to weigh it down a little. For some reason, I hadn't thought of making them with a round neckline, so I'm going to change things up and use your technique now! Thank you for the inspiration. :)
This is a very nice project for woman that like to wear these cover ups. I was given a crochet one that I always forget to wear. I also have a kind of a shawl that would work that I also forget to wear. The fabric feels like a type of wool with beautiful blue stitching that I think came from Iran. It's really beautiful and I always tell myself to wear it but I never do.
Thank you, such clear explanations/instructions. And you're so to the point, no waffling for ages till you give the information! Very efficent! I love it. The most useful for me is learning how to mesure and cut the rounded neckline. 🙏🙏🙏
Great video! Last winter I took an old blanket scarf and turned it into a cape. Well, I didn't like it. I see now how I can improve it. Thank you for this video, I can redo it and make it wearable!♥️♥️♥️
This looks like a great project. I can’t wear synthetic fiber but I can do this with cotton, linen, or wool. You can use that part you tore out to make POCKETS!!
I have fallen in love with using a ban roll for doing a rolled hem. It means sewing all the hems twice, but for me I find the results well worth it. Thanks for the tutorial! You always make everything seem possible!
@The Aussie Family probably. I’ve never seen it written down, and I’m hearing impaired, so I probably misheard it. Just looked it up and you’re right. I’ll edit my post. Thanks!
I love wearing these cardi coverups because my favorite fabrics are silky types. I can’t wait to make this simple and easy wrap. Your instructions are so clear and helpful. Thanks for sharing!!!
Hillevi, I am so happy to bring this to you! I have mapped out a few other quick and easy projects for the year and I can't wait to make them with you :)
Thank you so much 🙂 I do like it, even though it is not my style :) I am happy these fabrics (I had them for 7 years, my mom sent them to me, and she was totally happy with me using them for my friend) finally got the love and wear they deserved all these years :)
I needed this video so much! I was planning to sew a chiffon beach cover-up for my next month's vacation, and when I started my research, all I could find was "don't even think about delicate fabrics when you're a beginner, it's a nightmare to work with and you'll fail miserably." You have brought my courage back! Gotta go order my fabrics now! Thanks! 🥰
I made these a few years ago but I didn't remove anything of the center front...I cut it down the middle front and it made a beautiful waterfall look. I also serged the raw edges and turned them over once. Very easy.
Lovely Alisa, another great project with easy-to-follow directions. I love your 'happy dance' at the completion of these projects. You always make me smile.
Great tip for using the tissue. 👍🏾 I'm gonna try that. I've made this cover up using thrifted scarves. It's beginner friendly and I love the instant gratification that results from this project. Nice video😊
Thankyou so much! I live on a tropical island and these cover ups are very popular and somewhat pricey! Now I can make my own! Love your channel! Thankyou for this video!!!❤️
You can also use a small strip of clear elastic ,so you wont rip the fabric . When sewing the elastic to the material do not stretch it. Hope this tip helps.
Oooooh! Great idea! Cause what do you know... I have some fleece laying around as well 🤣🤣🤣 Ps: will go together great with some nice tea and a cozy candle ❤️
Just found your channel, absolutely love it. You make everything so easy to understand and interesting. You've really inspired me to have a go at things I've never tried before, thank you. X
I like the way that you showed how to rip the fabric to get an even front cut without having to open it back up and realign the side seams, marking, etc. (Though I guess you'd have to do that with a heavier fabric), it really makes this easier and is different from other tutorials I've seen.
Ah, good thought! yes, with heavier fabrics would need to do it anyway, but then again you could potentially cut it very carefully as is, just making sure you don't cut the layer underneath.
@@ThoughtfulCreativity Thanks! I don’t sew any side seams in mine, just hem if I’m gifting or not if it’s for me since polarfleece doesn’t ravel. I’ve used these wraps to stay warm not just wearing but as an extra blanket for camping! LOL The last one I made is ankle length and wide enough that I can sit down and put four layers of fabric over my legs.
What a great idea! I was looking for a practical gift for my mil who has limitations due to a stroke. That would be easier to get on than a coat. We need more accessible type patterns like this for sure.
@@dawnkifer9712 I hear that! I’ve used all types of adaptive tools since 1987, and doing it whilst in a medieval dress! 😂 But there aren’t a lot of adaptive patterns out there.
I use almost the exact same dimensions and make coats from fleece and denim in this style. I also add a hood and pockets. Then I use elastic button loops to close it up. My dimensions are the width of the fabric (60") x 50" wide. I have a very narrow arm span so 25 in on each side is more than enough for me.
Oh wow, how fun!!! Hood and pockets sounds like a GREAT addition, from what I am picturing in my mind it almost looks like a poncho then, right? :) I loooove this idea! THANK YOU!
Interesting thought, Angel! I would not do it with chiffon, because it would probably sag, and also it is way too lightweight and see through, I can see this play out interestingly with medium weight fabric, you would sew all edges right sides together of the both layers and leave a little opening to turn it right side out and then stitch the opening closed. Also, there are double sided fabrics that could be great for this, too :)
This is really nice. I am a relatively new subscriber /watcher. Where are you from? I'm trying to figure out your accent. (I love it!) You are truly creative!
Kristin, hello there! What you can do is to 1)click on my channel name 2) then once you are on my channel page you can click on "video" tab 3) you will see all drafting and seiwng tutorials there, and you can even search through them to find what you want :) don't forget that you can combine tutorials to get the look that you want. Happy sewing :)
Thank you for another happy video... I love watching your videos... May I ask... What sewing machines do you have and which one is your favourite... I am looking for a new machine... Myne is to old so it's time for an upgrade... I'm looking for advice and opinions on which one to choose...
Dalyn, hello there, open the description.of the video - my sewing gmachine make and model is there. I can't really suggest much or give advice on which sewing machine was better from such a wide variety, because I have only sewn with this sewing machine for nearly 10 years + a serger and a cover stitch - you can find videos about them on my channel :)
@@ThoughtfulCreativity thank you very much... I understand... There are so many different ones to choose from and everyones needs are different... But that already helps thank you
Hi! Is this one size fits all? I am an XS/S. Do I need to make any changes to the measurements you mentioned? And how did you finish the neck round? is it done the same way you hemmed the outer edges of the cardi?
Hi I am from the uk and watch all your videos Which I absolutely love, I am only 5 foot tall and no dress fits me well at all. I would love to make a summer dress but don’t know how to go about drafting a pattern for it please help xx
Yvonne, hello there :) Go ahead and start with a bodice block with dart tutorial, once you have your bodice block done - then you can draft any dress, top or jacket from it and I have A TON of tutorials for it on the channel :) it will help you out!
I actually made something like this a while back with some chiffon but unfortunately (lol noob mistake; I didn't know then what I know now) I didn't reinforce the side seams and it came apart on me. I haven't restitched it yet, but someday... 😅
I soak mine in a gelatin solution, which makes them stiff. It makes it incredibly easy to work with the fabric, and then just rinses out. Do a search online and you will find many recipes for soaking in gelatin.
I have beautiful sheer chiffon fabrics that would make great cardigans or cover. Only thing is that material is soooo moving that it's so irritating & frustrating to handle.

I am blessed with her! :)
Love your tutorial...Big thanks for sharing 👍 from Belfast Northern Ireland 😀
Oh hey. Someone just up the road from me. 👋😁 (I'm not in the Republic, but south of Belfast)
This is perfect for those hot summer days on top of a sleeveless top, tank you for the idea.
I love the way you explain your sewing tutorials, which are easy to follow. Thank you for sharing ❤

How much fabric did you use for it? Are 2 metres enough?
Love this top, I have made it with fabric I can tear, how can I do it with other fabrics that don’t tear
I pull out the back away from the front whilst it’s still folded and just cut down the fold.
