Ok I checked the video last night, replaced the starter and the video is spot on! however you do not need the flex head at all. I used a regular craftsman 3/8DR ratchet and 14mm deep well socket and did not have a problem. after breaking torque with it I just grabbed my 1/4DR ratchet afterwards with the 14mm socket to finish driving the mounting bolts out from the starter.

If you remove the tube that goes from the airbox to the throttle body, you have easy access to the top bolt. Thanks for the video. It's spot on!

I did a combo bottom/top method using info from this video a lot easier to get to that top bolt and bottom bolt for that matter. All you have to do is move the air box takes about 3 extra minutes. Thanks for the video took about an hour after I found the right tools that bracket was the worst part.

I just pulled the starter out of 2009 2.4. I removed the bracket as described, but I didn't have to worry about the hose bracket. I did remove the air cleaner box (easy) and from there I was able to remove the two bolts holding the starter from the top side.

Just changed a 2011 sonata starter. I'd consider myself a half ass mechanic...When you are on the ground and don't have a lift, the greatest tip I can provide is to put your feet facing the back of the car because it allows your hand to have proper alignment and clearance for your hand to grip anything at all in the tight space; without your hand cramping up. This guy must be a ratchet aligning god because that top screw for the starter is insane to reach. If you unscrew the two hose clamps for the intake tube up top you can get at the top bolt for the starer a lot easier. You can also reach the bottom bot from the top as well. Honestly the bracket with the 4 bolts and getting the starter in and out was the hardest part. I had to force the starter toward the radiator fan around the oil hoses while twisting the starter all over to get it to fit...im glad thats over...

My 2010 2.4 was setup different. The throttle body was in the way, so the starter bolts could not be accessed from below, and the oil filter was in a different location. I used the "top method", but DID NOT have to remove the intake. I -only- removed the air filter hose, and I could then access the starter bolts. They are hard to find, but once you locate them, they are easy to remove. Then it dropped below. I also removed that plate below the intake and the starter dropped down enough to access the wiring. This method is still way, way easier the those who insist on removing the intake, coolant lines, fuel lines, wiring harness, vac lines, etc. That method is madness.

Great video, showed everything necessary without all the b.s. (Scotty). For everyone doing this at home, takes about an hour. Only difficult part, at least for me, was getting the top starter bolt loose - not a lot of room around that one, only a few clicks of the ratchet at a time. Otherwise, easy peasy.

I have done 3 of these starters 1 from the top because the car was buried in mud, had to remove the intake manifold, he did a great close-up video but I found it easier to remove the throttle body to get to remove/install the starter bolts then as he has shown.

I didn't need to remove the bracket when I just pulled this same starter from a car at the junkyard and only took me 5 minutes to remove it. Of course the air box wasn't in the way up top and stuff but yea. I didn't need to remove that bracket. Only that 1 10mm socket that holds them hoses down up top to get the starter bolts out.

I'm just a regular guy who takes care of his own cars as much as possible (in other words, not a car restorer or professional mechanic). Took me about an hour, hardest part is the top starter bolt, there's not a lot of room to break it loose. Once you get it moving you only have a few clicks of the ratchet each time because of the space. Otherwise it's not that difficult.

This method failed for me. I have a 2011 Sonata Limited. It has front engine mounts that get in the way of reaching certain bolts, but in this vid, you can see the mounting holes, but there are no mounts. Best way I found was to remove air cleaner, air intake pipe and ECT. Then you can unscrew the 12mm oil line retainer bolt and the 14mm starter bolts from the top. You only have to loosen the 4 bolts on the intake manifold bracket (from under the car), I used a small box end wrench for this. Then you follow the rest of the vid, but after disconnecting the wiring to the starter pull it out from the top. You may have to clip the wire tie holding a wire harness to the engine to get enough room for the starter. It is a tight fit, but I got it out.

You have to believe all these big store mechanic shops, like tire plus, tire kingdom, pep boys, firestone and such are still charging you the related manual labor time of 2.5 to 4 hours, and doing the removal this way, and cutting the time to 40 to 45 minutes! So in reality these shops have tripled their profit or more on the labor
