  • This video teaches step-by-step the Anthony Dickey Wash and Go Method on type 4c hair.
    This hands down has been the easiest wash and go on my natural hair I have done so far. This is my third attempt at doing a wash n go, if you can remember. My wash and gos have gone from clueless, to complicated, and now finally simple and easy.
    I won't lie, I've put about half a pound of Aunt Jackie's flaxseed gel on my head, but these 4c coils are poppin'! I happen to have low porosity hair so it took over 24 hours to air dry, but who's counting...besides me?

      It's taken me damn-near 25 years to really become aware of it's diverse styling potential: can do dread's, platts, cornrows, twists (twists are another option, aren't they?), this wash 'n' go stuff I've only just learned about today, my go-to for about the last 8 years😅 which is just combin' it out with an afro-comb (on a regular so that the hair doesn't tangle 'n' punish me too hard), brushing with a hard brush, sponging, I know usually men can buzz it, get waves - other wise it can all just be shaved clean off; and all of this is just about with in the realm of natural hair-care ONLY (as far as I'm aware)

    I do this everyday with less products for less drying time like I don’t use gel on a daily or sometimes no creams and my hair dries in a couple hours. When I say this has changed my life. My life no longer revolves around hair especially having a child I need to not think about my hair anymore. It’s so liberating doing my hair in the shower for 10-15 min and going because I really need to go when your child is small and getting into everything. I don’t do anything else anymore just wash and gos. I literally have no time to protective style or twist out or anything. Here’s another tip because I started running through sooo much conditioner I switched to cheaper conditioner instead of those natural ones that break the bank and the cheap ones feel no different from the expensive ones. Now I’m spending less time and money 💰 💃

    • @carolwashington8379
      @carolwashington8379 4 года назад +4

      I'm curious, what are your hair characteristics? I would love to do my hair everyday, but I have Thick type 4, medium porosity hair. I feel like medium porosity hair is like being a unicorn...nobody talks about it or seems to have it. Do you go for a less defined look or does that not matter in comparison to the time commitment to achieve definition. I'm busy so I usually style my hair in a twist out and keep it for a week or two. I don't have to re-moisture/twist because I use the banding/small pineapple overnight method and have finally found products/technique that work for my hair. I have a lot of products to work through for WnG's but I don't like my hair to get dry since that causes longer wash days and leads to breakage.

    • @soraya.e5482
      @soraya.e5482 4 года назад +18

      Carol Washington yeah I don’t try to go for the defined look like loads of gel and cream. That in my opinion takes way too long. I personally I accept my very natural state true to its name. I think with wash and gos you have to embrace your natural hair to really like it or you will be caught in a world where your chasing a curl type. I even see people with looser hair want tighter curls so everyone has this issue. I’m not sure what is my porosity but I think it’s low porosity. I pretty much stopped doing what youtubers do and just mostly focus on water and conditioner daily. This worked a ton. I don’t hair type but my hair is curly kinky. The hair typing doesn’t help me out anymore because all those charts said not to do wash and gos and stick to protective styles. And when I listened it kind of worked but my hair was always dry and tangly. So I wanted to have moisturized hair and it’s okay if it wasn’t super long because shrinkage doesn’t let people know or defined. I just finally started to accept my hair the way it was.

      @@soraya.e5482Absolutely, I feel the exact same way. I'm using products that are not putting holes in my wallet, yet does the job. You're absolutely right, the whole point of wearing natural hair was to embrace our hair no matter what type it is. But that seems to be changing now. I embrace my natural hair as it is also and stick with the products that work for my hair. You don't have to break the bank to wash, moisturize, detangle, and style your hair. I watched a stylist the other day, and he said he doesn't do the hair typing anymore because some people get offended when he used to tell them their hair type. Like you and LaToya said embrace your coils and curls.

    I’m telling you, Anthony Dickey absolutely changed my hair-life! I thought doing it every day - every 3 days was way too much at first but I was wrong and my hair feels SO much healthier, moisturized and it’s now so much quicker to do now that I do it consistently. The whole process takes me 30-40 minutes (including my shower). 40minutes is when I shampoo once a week. It feels more natural, in that I can hop in the shower and feel all over refreshed and not be doing all these little baby sections like you said!

    The more you wash and condition your hair as a natural the easier your hair is to deal with. It makes sense. If your hair isn't rehydrated and detangled regularly it's going to be a mess to deal with. A lot of black women balk at this but don't try it to see the results. It's the #1 thing that will transform your hair and what's not to like about fresh clean hair more often.

    Yeah...a hood dryer would be a great investment. An overnight wash n go also helps with dry time.
    I wish more new type 4 naturals would start with AD’s method when trying to master their wash n go. It’s a great starting point for learning how much water and product your hair actually need on a regular basis. Not just for this style, but for healthy hair in general. After using this method for a few weeks, I got a lot of perspective on my hair and it became so used to the water, I used less and less product as time went on.
    Edit: I have not abandoned shampoo. And, honestly, neither has Dickey. Since so many people ask him questions about wash n gos and dryness-many of his videos heavily emphasize co-washing, but he’s aware shampoo is necessary for a healthy scalp. The overall message I’ve gotten from his channel is that our hair needs more conditioner than it does shampoo, which is the type of regimen my hair has always liked.

      Denysha Taylor I love what you said. I wish more type 4s would start with AD‘s method to master the wash and go. Yes! I binged all his videos. The reason I got there, is because everyone told me the twist out was where I needed to be and I absolutely hated them. He’s the one who told me if I was to do a twist out, it needed to be on dry stretched hair not wet hair. What?!? Ever since then I’ve been in love with his advice.

I use Suave conditioner that you can get for one dollar at Dollar Tree or at WalMart. I use 1/3 of a bottle. You have to SATURATE your hair with conditioner. Once your hair "relaxes," then wash it out. 90% of it out. I usually do my hair, add the conditioner and then shower. By the time my bathing ritual is over, my hair is ready for the next step. 2nd Seconds after my hair was under the shower faucet with water coming down on me, I add in my stylers. Seconds. I don't do sections. I just put it all over. Back. Front. Sides. I do pul up sections of hair here and there to add thee styler, but nothing like what you did. That was a lot of work. 3rd Then, I run my hair very quickly under the shower again and then I shake. Water. lots of it and Conditioner. Lots of it. Are the key to this. I then blow dry. Takes less than 20 minutes with my Dyson Diffuser. And I'm on my way.

    I actually did a consultation with Dickey himself where he walked me through the steps, as in he stopped what he was saying had me SOAK MY HAIR. The method works but the drying time was UNREAL! Perhaps I'll try it again but I'm in nobody's rush ... much like my hair when drenched with water and gel.

      I let my hair dry throughout the day (i do it in the morning). I clip my bangs down, and just go about my day. If i do it at night, i have one of those cloth dryer caps that you attatch to a blowdrier. I use that, dry like 70-80% and it dry the rest of the way while im sleeping. Maybe that may be able to help you in the future

I haven't used oil in my hair in a year. I just use leave-in and a curl aid (kinky curly custard or Uncle funkys daughter). My hair is low-porsity, less breakage, defined curl pattern.. Bravo (clapping hands). Great job! I too tried AD's method early on. To cut the drying down, the amount of product needs to be cut down. The way to cut down the amount of product is to steam your hair with a steamer and a deep conditioner. It opens your low porosity hair to accept moisture and product. Biweekly for 30mins or less of steaming will do the trick. It takes about three treatments to see major results that last whereas you can start steaming monthly or every other month. You have beautiful, coily hair. Wash and gos really highlight just how beautiful it is!

    Im sorta new to wash n gos and his method is the first one I learned. It makes the most sense and I like the way my hair responds to all the moisture since you’re wetting your hair so often. Parts of my hair that I didn’t think had a curl actually do with proper hydration. My problem now is the gels. I hate the film, stickiness, and flaking that comes from most I’ve used. once I get that issue solved I’ll feel like I mastered it. Great video!

    I have type 4 hair and had problems doing a successful wash and go in the beginning. The best way to do a wash and go, do everything in the shower.
    1. Shampoo in the shower with a non sulfree moisturizing Shampoo. Wash in small sections in a downward motion.
    2. Invest in a good deep conditioner.
    Deep conditioner hair while in the shower while soaking wet in small sections. Finger Detangle while applying and finish each section be doing a 2 strand twist. 3. Put a plastic cap on and sit under a hooded dryer for 30 minutes. The key is to deep condition every week. Rinse with cold water in sections. 4. Separate in sections while soaking wet add leave in conditioner put back in 2 strand twists.
    When completed with whole head put back on plastic after getting out of the shower. 5. On applying gel, using a gel like Uncle Funky's Daughter Curly Magic, Camille Rose Curl Maker or Eco Styler, something with strong hold. Apply in hair in small sections, the same small sections that you applied the leave in conditioner on. Apply to the hair while it's soaking wet for the best results. If sections start getting dry in the middle of applying, get the spray bottle and re-spray. 5. Once completed, let air dry or sit under a hooded dryer for 30 minutes.
    If still damp afterwards, diffuse the middle sections of your hair in small sections. Don't touch the ends and it will disturb the curls and cause frizz. The key within type 4 hair, apply all products when hair is soaking wet, deep condition weekly, use non sulfate shampoos moisturizing shampoos. Apply all products in small sections. Look for products that are free of sulfates, silicones, alcohol and or too many chemicals. Invest Black owned hair care lines such as Camille Rose, Uncle Funky's Daughter, Soultanicals, Ecoslay.
    Read ingredients carefully.

    I did my first wash n go back in January, and the amount of PEOPLE telling me how pretty it was, and how it wasn't 4c or how they would never be able to ACHIEVE this. It made me so sad-
    but they also got disappointed when I said I had in sit in the shower the WHOLE time . just to do it, and use a LOT of products to get it to show my texture.
    Thank you so much for sharing your hair. Its so amazing to be staring at a genuine reflection of my hair (been natural for 5-6 yrs now), your hair is so beautiful! Its absolutely stunning and I am so excited to see where your journey takes us!!
    If I could recommend a product line (i'm new to the channel so forgive me if you've already tried it) but i've been obsessed with TGIN for a minute now, specifically their 'Butter Cream Daily Moisturizer' - and Miss Jessie's 'Leave in Condish', like so obsessed; I've been using it for 2-3 years with insane results. (I would also recommend TGIN's (Thank God It's Natural's) 'Protein treatment'. Girl. Girl- GIRL!!!
    You brought up the maximum hydration method and I want to tell YOU GIRL!!
    The ' Miracle RepairRx CPR Protein treatment' is everything to me right now. Frizz, split ends (more so mean when our hair coils aggressively around its self not healthy)(Sidenote: I would recommend getting it as a bundle, with its Conditioner, The conditioner that is made for it is honestly reallllllly nice and I try not to use too much of it because of how nice it makes my hair feel; I save it for if my hair REALLY needs it but its an amazing conditioner), the feeling of my hair not absorbing water, or absorbing LESS water. All those things disappeared- Now my hairs identical to yours tbh. (My Hair used to be very very dry) No pressure just giving some brands to try out (Texture ID is also one I used to use, I still use their '3x Moisturizing Cream Conditioner'(to prepoo and de-tangle) and 'Styling Creme' but I don't get as much of an impact from my hair with it (it's a good moisturizer but doesn't define my hair, I usually put the TGIN cream first(L.C.O) and use the Creme from TD to style strictly, during the winter or if I feel like my hairs been dry recently). It may be the Biotin + Vitamin E which i appreciate.)
    (sorry for the rant, one more thing) TGIN Changed the formula for its protein treatment so if you find it, and it doesn't say CPR it may be the older one (which was my original love, but tbh them taking out the coconut oil(or butter or shea I can't remember at the moment) and swapping for Black Castor oil and Biotin has been a genuine game changer, before I'd use it maybe every 1-2 months; now I can stretch it to 3 maybe 4 if I want to save the product. And no you don't need to follow instructions and use half of the jar. You'll be able to tell if each section is thoroughly coated. It makes the hair (when applied) feel like jello)
    I hope all of this info helps in some way! Sending love your way and thank you so much again for everything you're doing!! 🥰💕

    I have only ever used this method it never fails me. For starters,once the product is in and you’ve parted it the way you want, don’t touch it before it dries. In the winter, I use a blow dryer without a diffuser and swirl it around until it’s is 50% dry. I use the air to guide the set by blowing it into place. This actually it helps it dry faster, clump together and get volume without me manipulating it too much. If you have used the right amount of product, it won’t frizz either.
