Nissan Titan XD Diesel Owner: Real Life Highway MPG

  • After shooting this video, the hwy mpg settled at 24mpg. I usually cruise at 75-80mph on the interstate and get about 21mpg.
    The truck is the Pro4X model with no front air dam, 3.92 gear ratio, 4x4. Im willing to bet that 4x2 models with the front air dams have better mpgs.

    I bought the XD Platinum Reserve back in september and damn, it's one amazing truck. Already have 4200 miles!

    If you live in the open country you'll see these numbers. I drive the XD Gas in a dense city and you'll never go above 15mpg hand calculated. Flat highway numbers will always give 20+ mpg in the gas or diesel. As he starts to go up an incline, the mpg dropped to 15mpg. City highways have a lot of long inclines. Other than fuel economy, this truck checks all of the boxes and the best purchase I've made for a vehicle.

    Ok. This probably just pushed me over the edge to buy the Titan over the Tundra. I will be doing a lot of interstate and 4 lane highway cruising. 20+ mpg running 75 or so. I'm sold! Thanks for the update!!

      Looking at the Titan and Tundra too, but man the mileage is bad on the Tundra. Now searching out a Pro4X Diesel model.

      I have a '13 tundra rock warrior crew max.. with a 3/1 level kit, 20" wheels & 33x12.50 mud terrains.. I average 16.3 mpg.. When the truck was stock it was 17-18.. never over 18 though.. I hot rod around quite a bit so my averages can get down to the 14's in town.. The tundra 5.7 is known for it's reliability not mpg's.. I traded an 05 6.0 powerstroke F250 for this truck and never looked back..

    I bought a new 2019 same results. I also bought a new 2004 f 150 and I never got over 17 mpg. This truck is awesome. I am a full time rver and this truck pull wonderful.

    Appreciate the direct and honest videos again. I keep checking in to help with my potential decision next year. I still haven't made a trip over to the dealership to get on it. Might get in touch with you on any advice on anything that I'd need to do on it if I do decide to snag one.
    Thanks again.

      My best advice is to haggle at least 10k off the MSRP on the 2016 models... I am not sure how flexible they are with the 2017 models though.

    After 4 years and 110,000 miles my xd is a steady 11 mpg towing a 9,000 pound 5th wheel. Not towing for thousands of miles I get 19 to 22 mpg at 65 mph. I think I will not do anything and just drive.

      svt89 Ill go try that next week. I got a long drive from Houston to Kinder Lousiana to do some gambling. Its really hard to accurately calculate it since traffic in Houston really throws off hwy MPGs. I have been getting 17 mpg to 18 mph in Houston and 21 to 24 mpg on the Hwy. I still dont get the deal with peoples concerns with truck mpgs. If you cant afford the fuel for a truck, then dont get one. This is a 47k truck. $2 / gallon diesel is peanuts for people who buy these things.

    • @Lumpia_In_Texas
      @Lumpia_In_Texas  7 лет назад +3

      Got a hand calculated mpg and its about 21 MPG. 85% Hwy 15% City. From Missouri Texas to Kinder Lousiana with about 800LB payload. I did not cruise over 70 MPH since the weather was horrendous. I got a video of it but the quality is absolute garbage. Ill post it anyway later.

      @longboardguy 5 лет назад +1

      Alex Stelling ya no way your getting 22+ mpg in either of those trucks even deleted. The best I saw with my 12’ Duramax was about 18mpg unloaded highway at 65mph.

    • @johndhenry9553
      @johndhenry9553 5 лет назад

      @@longboardguy With my previous '08 (deleted) 2500 HD 4X4 Duramax, I routinely got 22-23mpg on the interstate at 70-72 mph (w AC off). If cruising at ~60 mph (AC off) I occasionally got ~ 25Mpg. It was Not lifted and had std size tires. It also had a Banks cold air intake and I always ran some cetane boost (or some Marvel Mystery oil) with each tank of fuel.
      But, my wife says I drive like an old lady so maybe that had something to do with it too ;)

    • @Lumpia_In_Texas

      @Bad_Agent01 5 лет назад

      Mc13oner I just bought it and when is full it says 285 mile range, which I think is not enough for a big truck like this. I’m not sure why they put a 26 gallon tank

    • @Lumpia_In_Texas
      @Lumpia_In_Texas  7 лет назад

      Charles Casto Nope. I have visited the site and the numbers on that site are all over the place. Way too much variance when including towing numbers.

    • @charlescasto4226
      @charlescasto4226 7 лет назад

      Mc13oner agreed... that's why I try to get people that get decent mpgs to post on there. Right now I think there's only 1 guy that gets 19 average. Which to me says he gets 23 highway. Bunch of people that tow in there now makes the average like 15-16. I can see that pushing people away.

      I haven't seen an avg in the 20 MPG range yet. I have a 17' SV crew with the stock 20" wheel pkg. I average 16.5 to 17.3 normally with my city driving ( avg driving style) 18.3 when I baby it in the city. However I've made several trips from Cincinnati to Cleveland and back with no more than an avg of 19 mpg while the cruise was set at 75 mph. Any idea on why mine is so much lower on the hwy (I reset the avg for each trip)? I'm only at 1500 miles so hopefully it gets better after break in.

    • @diamondheat9
      @diamondheat9 7 лет назад

      +Brickhouse XD Idk about most mpg highway driving but when I was an OTR driver I never used my cruise control. I get better mpg doing my own throttling than rely on the CC.

    • @suburbangarage4608
      @suburbangarage4608 7 лет назад

      diamondheat9 I agree, FYI I towed a 28BHS camper over the weekend 7700lbs gvwr, so it was probably 6800-7000lbs loaded with our gear and the water tanks full. the 2hr drive was mostly hwy with an avg mpg of 9.6 @70mph. it pulled it with minimal effort. I found out our traction control also adds anti sway to the brake controller.

    Looks like that's your AVERAGE MPG, not instant. When you leveled out, it was still averaging your total MPG from last reset.
    You should display your instant MPG if you have that option....or reset at the point you level off.

    How often is the regen?

    • @Lumpia_In_Texas
      @Lumpia_In_Texas  6 лет назад

      Chris Bridges depends on how you drive. If you drive purely city then you regen every tank. If mostly highway, then maybe 1 regen per 2 tanks. It really depends on how you drive.
