Actually, working in a Waffle House should be a pre-requisite for all FEMA employees as they are much more responsive to people's needs and probably have more experience at crises management. 🙂

I used to live in Acworth, Georgia, whose main claim to fame was the I-75 exit that had two WH’s - one on either side of the interstate. It was a big deal until a couple of years later, when the Kennesaw exit (about 3 miles south) somehow ended up with FOUR Waffle Houses. My hubby’s ex has worked for WH for many years. She audits individual company-owned stores. (Yes, some stores - probably the worst ones - are only franchises.)
Waffle House is the kitchen table of America. They probably have the biggest crossover of customers from all walks of life. My favorite combination is seeing cops and working girls there at the same time, casually talking about their day.
Having spent 15 years in Florida, I can attest to the part about Waffle House being open during Natural Disasters. After a hurricane, our local store was open and serving a very limited menu but it was a good hot meal.
Very few places have salt cured country ham but WH does. Before I retired, I would stop at WH and get a country ham, egg, cheese and tomato sandwich on toast and a large coffee to go. That would keep me going most of the day.
I made the mistake of going into one in McKinney Texas once. Sat down at a table and it was sticky. The floor was sticky, and the place was filthy-to the point that dead roaches were under the table. I got up and left, and vowed I'd never go into one again.
Had a WH a mile from the house. But, it was old and had a very small parking lot so they shut it down. Now the wife and I regularly take the 20 minute drive to the one by the interstate. Never disappointed, it's always good. Went to the old one on a Christmas day. Expressed our sympathies that they had to work. Waitress said she was happy too. The tips that day were the best of the whole year (we tipped very well too).

I noticed that as well. While I find the ads annoying, if they are helping to pay the bills and allow them to keep putting out good content, I’ll live with them.
Same first time with me, some friends moved there in the early 90's, and waffle house was an amazing find. I just wish about 3 of them would open in my town now!
My first job was at a Waffle House in 1987 in Greensboro, NC. If you watch the whole video you'll see how the uniforms changed over the years. I wore the orange/black/yellow striped tops. I have many fond memories of working there from my teens into my early twenties.

The cooks and staff have to work, so to make it fair; the executives do too. What's the point of that? Doesn't show the cooks and staff any real respect or consideration. Pay them double for working shifts on major holidays, and let the executives go home and enjoy their day off. That way, everyone ends up happy.
Nope your wrong about the locks dude....former 17 year waffle house veteran here whenever we had to close we had to tie a chain from the high bar seats to the inner door handle and master lock the chain together....not a legend truth now some of the newer built locations may have them but I'm not I've been gone since 2018...great video though
I regularly go to a local Waffle House, where I live in Virginia. I have met some friends there. Some work there, some eat breakfast with me. My main meal and time I use the restaurant, is breakfast time, although they have an excellent chicken sandwich.
There may be a restaurant in Wisconsin named "Waffle House," but it's a stand-alone and not associated with the chain of Waffle Houses described in this video. The nearest Waffle House chain restaurants to the state of Wisconsin would probably be the ones in and around Indianapolis, IN.
I live in Nebraska. Years ago, I drove to Miami. The thing I remember most vividly is the number of waffle houses I drove by. In Georgia and Florida, I swear I could have stood anywhere, thrown a rock in any direction, And hit a waffle house.
The government will likely allow some restaurants to stay open after any disaster because they served a purpose. Some of these restaurants may not be allow serve food depending on the situation. Likely most restaurants allow to stay open serve only coffee, milk and soft drinks. Finally they will be able to serve limited food. Oddly the Waffle House Index is a great salute to this restaurant chain by the FEMA.
The government does not allow or disallow restaurants to be open during a disaster. That is dependent entirely upon the condition and supplies available. Where do you get your ridiculous miss information?
As a salesman on the road for 25 years, I've eaten in many WHs many times. Some are cleaner than others, but food is always good, service friendly.

Nice video. But as a Security Officer who has worked major holidays for too many years to remember, I hate silly corporate gestures such as the one noted above. The cooks and staff have to work, so to make it fair; the executives do too. What's the point of that? Doesn't show the cooks and staff any real respect or consideration. Pay them double for working shifts on major holidays, and let the executives go home and enjoy their day off. That way, everyone ends up happy.
The coffee cup those guys were sharing is about twice as big as you can get at the restaurant!
Another great video
Your narration is perfect. Cross between “A Christmas Story” and “Wonder Years” in my ears. I wish you much success. 👍🇺🇸
My favorite eatery! Available mainly un the southern most states.
Very interesting!
I live in Washington state. I sure wish we had Waffle Houses out here!
I've seen one in Wisconsin / excellent restaurant, quick service great food
There may be a restaurant in Wisconsin named "Waffle House," but it's a stand-alone and not associated with the chain of Waffle Houses described in this video. The nearest Waffle House chain restaurants to the state of Wisconsin would probably be the ones in and around Indianapolis, IN.
Love this one
Scattered, smothered, covered, peppered and capped.
I love you Waffle House, I couldn't live without you.
Congratulations happy anniversary
