It can happen even with the experienced aquascapers that the ecosystem got unbalanced. It happens with me too sometimes, so I show you an excellent solution to get rid of the algae. The greatness of the method is the fact, this way you can eradicate - nearly - all kind of algaes. Sidenote: the brush algae is bit more stubborn so you should use it directly.

Be gentle with this chemical and make sure no children can reach it. You mustn’t overdose, it’s very important! Use 3% tincture with a dosage of 1 ml H2O2 to 1L net. aquarium water. You can use it directly or just simply pour it into the tank. It’s up to you.
Normally it doesn’t hurt the flora and fauna but a couple (more sensitive) shrimps can fall.
It can hurt the bacteria partially, but it won’t cause any trouble! After half day of this treatment, you should change at least the half of the aquarium water. If you had more algaes the water can be troubled what also means you should do a water change.
If you have mosses, you want to remove them before using the H2O2, because they can be burnt easily.
The riccia fluitans grew into the parvula, so it caused some trouble, but H2O2 killed it too.

algea: I don't feel so good....
I have a 10g cube aquarium that was covered in string and hair algae of all kinds. The algae covered the plants, the ornaments, the gravel, and especially thrived amidst the dwarf hair grass. I tried scrubbing it with a toothbrush, but that only wrecked all the planted dwarf hair grass. I tried Seachem Flourish Excel and that killed all the shrimp and didn't affect the algae. I bought a couple of new amanos, which are supposed to eat hair algae, and then two more, and finally I had nine amano shrimp, all rolling around enjoying the cushiony comforts of the plush hair algae. Finally, I did what this video suggested and now I have absolutely zero hair algae and a lot of extroverted amano shrimp. This method works!

Now normally I'm REALLY reluctant to try something I saw on RUclips because you just never know if it's just a video or if it's truth... THIS WORKS AMAZING! 💪 I can't believe it! (My wife can't either, thought I was going to kill everything in my tank) I did lose 1 fish that wasn't doing that great from the start. After doing a 60% water change my fish are happy, my plants and glass are spotless, and im hoping that I get good plant growth before the algae has a chance to start multiplying again. I did add a peace lily into my set up, in hopes that it will establish itself and soak up the water column nutrients before the algae blooms. THIS FREAKING WORKS!

I feel your pain, a few months ago, I set up a rather ambitious project, a hillstream biotope aquarium. it has been the tank of my dreams for a few years, and was a project I had always wanted to do. it all went well, although whilst setting it up I did a truly stupid mistake which was adding free rocks from a pet store that was closing down. these rocks had a few tiny tufts of hair algae, but I looked over it, thinking that it wont do any harm. a few weeks later, my £500+ investment was a total wreck, with BBA everywhere. since then, I have added some fish, hillstream loaches for example which feed on the biofilm on rocks, which is now practically non existent, since BBA has covered nearly any surface which is accessible. I try giving them tablets, but these always get immediately eaten by my two weatherloaches. on the BBA front, my first attempt of removing it was simply manually removing it every water change, which failed miserably. attempt number 2, I went to the fish shop and asked for advice, and they just gave me anti hair algae medicine which didn't do a thing. attempt number 3 was adding BBA eating fish, such as Florida flags and apparently otocinlus algae eaters, hardly any difference, they picked at it and that is it. next was attempt four, which included me asking for advice at the aquarium fish superstore, which supposedly has some fish experts which are more knowledgable, they told me to reduce the lighting and dose the tank with easy carbo, it revived the plants, which was good, however the otocinclus haven't done much apart from picking at hair algae and eat some of the little biofilm I have left which is constantly in demand by my shoal of millstream loaches. this method could work, but I think I might just go and bleach dip eve thing in the tank and remove the fish in a holding tank.

I always turn the canister filter off for a couple of hours while doing the treatment and set my mobile alarm clock to remind me to turn it on again. But I use a far less quantity out of fear: 30ml for a 100l tank. Thank you for your video!

3rd way: do a large water change, then use a paint brush on the exposed parts. The submersed parts deep in the tank, hit with the pippette etc and leave for a 1-2 minutes, then refill the tank, wait about 1/2 a day light cycle, dose them both after.

No idea who you are but this video was outstanding and I've just ordered some hydrogen peroxide and liked and subbed. I'm currently using glutaraldehyde but I darent increase its dose especially in my shrimp tank. I hope the use of both at weak solutions gives a double whammy effect. Thank you.

Easy solution for black nasty algae turn off your aquarium lights no co2 no fertilizer your algae will start to die algae cannot survive without light for a few days
@@JR-kr9cb I've got other plants in the tank though...Would they die if I do that? Also can fish get depressed from having no light?
@@ytl9558 depending on your plant they might take some damage and some leaves might die from a few days of no light, but they'll usually grow back. No, your fish shouldn't become depressed as far as i know xD
@@BioTechproject27 I've read other people's comment saying their fish gets really skittish when the light turns off. So I really don't know if fish are ok to be "in the dark" for a few days....

Great video, but people should be aware that if you brush off BBA within the tank that all your doing is spreading that algae to different places. If you can't take it out of your tank to scrub it off, just do the dosing.

1ml per 1lt of water? That is high or my chemistry left overs are way overdue... Also, I would recommend stopping the filter while treatment is going (1hr)
You are correct. 1ml H2O2 / 1L of water is in fact WAY overdosing already. 1ml / 3L water would be more like it and that would be the MAX.

Fish Of course it’s 3%. That’s what is sold in the pharmacies or stores. You might at best find 6%. You can’t find 100 % H2O2. It’s extremely dangerous. It’s used in explosives / rocket fuel. 1ml of H2O2 3% / liter of water is already overdosing and can kill plenty already.
My favorite solution to algae is having a lot of snails, tadpole/pond snails. The excess population becomes puffer food.
From 1 to 5 (1 being bad; 5 being great) of convenience versus nuisance:
Ramshorn snail = 2 (egg clusters are opaque and can ruin the aquascape; too slow to develop; eats algae casually)
Nerite snail = 3 (tendency to leave the tank; may leave eggs and needs saltwater to properly breed; eats algae effectively)
Tadpole snail = 4 (may leave the water infrequently; eggs are almost negligible; develops fast; eats algae occasionally)
Black beard algae is rarely eaten though. It's very hardy and even snails eat rather other types of algae than BBA. Also ramshornsnails can become a pest pretty quickly.

I noticed that my shrimp became extremely active after injecting Peroxide in the water. Possibly the temporary increase in O2 saturation??

Yep, my fish tend to perk up as well when I inject H2O2.
Hydrogen peroxide dissociates into water and oxygen. So yes, it does increase oxygen concentration and if you put in too much you can give your animals oxygen poisoning or the dihydrogenperoxide will react directly with their proteins.

Wait! I tried this method using a dental irrigation-type syringe and 3% hydrogen peroxide and there were NO BUBBLES whatsoever! Why no bubbles? Certainly could not be working without any bubbles, right? Confused!

I am in a war with staghorn algae. Spot treatment with peroxide seems to be the most effective. How often can I apply these treatments?

@@neilrobins3329 Yes, for the most part. The peroxide definitely works on things you can either spray or use a syringe directly on. I also used come Easy Carbon from Aquarium Co-op. I think the biggest help was probably adjusting my lights and keeping up with the water changes (to reduce the extra nutrients. Good luck. I know it's a very frustrating battle.
I accidentally overdosed with a water/excel mix into a tank with bad BBA. Nuked all my minnows in about two hours, so can definitely verify. No more BBA but lost my fish... now it's starting in my 50 gallon, so back to work but more carefully this time.
After dosing do you have to do a water change or you leave it in the tank to continue working??

TheCineScaper I found it kills on contact so I just blast it all, then immediately do a 60% change wait a day or two blast it again then do another water change at 60%. Think I’m gonna blast it again today I’ve almost got rid of all of it. At least 80% is gone but there’s still a little here and there. I didn’t even notice I had my tank way over stocked with plants. I guess since I been concentrating on everything else I didn’t realize how much my plants have grown. I started out with little plants and stuff. Last night I was doing some trimming and realized everything is basically on top of eachother now. No room for anything else to go in, no room for plants to grow so I removed the plants im not crazy about and did some rescaping and everything looks so much better. Still prob gonna pull a few things, like plants I got too many of and the plants I don’t like much so I can redesign everything more to my liking. My issue is the tanks in the middle of two rooms so it’s visible from both sides so I can’t do like “back, middle and front” I gotta set it up so you can see from both sides. I put taller plants in the middle but can only go so high or the fish have no room to swim.
So, I recently did this on a 30L tank.
I thought, 1ml/L, easy!
So I slapped 30ml in there. Nothing happened.
So, I then used 20ml and spot treated. Algae started fizzing up and dying!
And then when I checked it an hour or so later the entire tank was an oxygen factory. It took about 2 days for it to stop bubbling (I had a TON of hair algae everywhere though).
Unfortunately by the end of the 2 days 90% of mt plants had melted.
So, be CAUTIOUS of the dose. I would do 0.5ml/L to start.
It works.. too well in my case. 😂😭

Can you suggest how to use that, i am locked down in my house due to corona outbreak and suddenly my tank is infested with Hydras.

i look for this h202 but there is two variant of it here in my country. one is 10 volume and other is 20 volume. i don't understand there is no percentage written on its battle. so I am confuse which one to buy?
If it's pure hydrogenperoxide (with water) it shouldn't matter.
V10 is 3%. So buy V10.

It can sterilize a bacterial filter - then you get an ammonia spike, until the bacteria build up again (happened to me, but fish survived). Best to turn your filter pump off for 24 hours after application. :)
How come your fish wont run off and hide in the corners when you're doing an operation in the tank. My fish get so scared even though I'm just hovering my hands at the top of their aquarium, i haven't even put my hands in and they already dart around the tank ang get stressed. How? How do you get the fishes to be more laid back?
Spend time just sitting and staring at your aquarium and move slowly. Itll get them used to you. Also feed them and show your face and theyll associate you for food.
Is your aquarium heavily planted? They feel safer in a well planted aquarium

I had a Black beard algae problem. I'm just starting to pull everything out of my tank and re-do it. I want to re-use my rocks that are covered in BBA. Whats the best way to get rid of the algae in this instance? Just give it a hydrogen peroxide bath? I'm not worried about the beneficial bacteria. The fish and shrimp are now in another tank.
Wire brush is the most effective weapon.

The best for algae is having i'd say 2 otocinclus and 2 nerite snails (soft green and brown algae) and 1 siamese algae or silver flying fox eater (hair/bushy/beard algae) per 20 gallons.
1 otocinclus will almost totally clean a 10 gallon of diatom and soft like slimey green or brown algae in a week, nerite snails will clean rock or wood to the bone even more than an ottocinclus and siamese algae eaters will eat the other types of algae.
People say otocinclus should be kept in groups of 6+ but you really need a big tank for that, even 6 in a 40 gallon is probably too small unless it's overrun with algae and you can't get a grip on it. If it's a cleanish tank with algae you only notice when right in front of it then the less otos the better. They will eat the slime coats off your other fish when they are sleeping or if there are slower moving more static fish if theres not enough algae or they will starve and die.
Other types of snails, shrimp and pleco's I think prefer normal fish food even though they graze on algae they will never really clean it up completely. Where as nerite snails and ottos prefer to eat algae only if given the chance and will clean it away completely from any surface, siamese algae eaters/flying fox will eat bigger more stringy types of algae all day if its there also until they have finished it.

Your aquarium is 450l gross, this is same as 450l net if u have only water there. Recipe is too add 1ml h2o2 for each 1l aquarium water, but net, not gross.
3% tincture to 1ml h2o2 to water. Can you explain a bit more. What is tincture?
A slight amount
3% is the standard strength h2o2 you buy in the grocery store. Higher strength can be bought but would be more risky to dose. A tincture is simply the hydrogen peroxide in a syringe. I spot dose and use no more than 2 ml per gallon of tank water overall.

I just put my rocks into the bucket with 50:50 of water and hydrogen peroxide, works like a charm.
It’s work, algae became white on my carpet plants, but no one want to eat it. Still on my plant.

It oxidizes everything, it's not selective. If you wanna remove bba from your anubias, just put it in a bucket and put it somewhere dark for a few days. Or turn off the light of your aquarium for a few days.
H202 will act most effectively on organic matter that has thin cell membranes. So it affects algae most, bacteria second, then some plants like mosses. I used one-third of the dose from this video. It can only do as much work as the dose that is used. It is used up as it kills the algae. Since I used 1/3 it might be done it's activity within one hour. using 1/3 means that I could use it 3 times without danger over a week not just once as this dose would be active for 3 times as long. It is not selective, and it can also help with some shrimp / fish diseases. Lower dose means a lower risk.
I used it with my plants in and squirted right at some plants that had BBA on them. I have Anubias and it was unaffected. I rubbed off my Anubias leaves by hand, under water next day. It looks much more Green now.
1ml/1L is a bit much. Try 1.5ml/Gallon or 1.5ml/4.5L first.

By %3 tincture are you referring to a %3 hydrogen peroxide solution that's food grade? The food grade solution doesn't contain tetrasodium phosphate, sodium stagnates, acetanilide and phenol so I would think this is what you're either referring to or taking non food grade h202 and mixing in %3 alcohol or ethanol.
