Your channel so far has the best videos on the various different types of algae that can pop up in your tank, kind of surprised it hasn't blow up yet given algae should be one of the most common issues in tanks.

Great channel.
I used to get a little of this algae despite showing 0 A/N/N and having good healthy plant growth. The last couple weeks my new tank exploded with it!!
As you were going through the causes I started to despair until you mentioned temperature! In the past I had discuss and the tank was kept at 30 C. This new 75 gl was great all through cycling, good plant growth and minimal algae even as I started to add fish. Lastly I got 10 congo tetras who showed ich spots the next day so I did a heat treatment which lasted 2 weeks as I exchanged one after a week and kept the temp up just in case.
All plants and fish are super healthy but the mosses, Parrots feather and Val tips have turned into giant masses of hairy algae!!!
I will remove as much as I can and try some of your tips including the liquid co2. I have only low tech tanks but to get this back on track may take a bit extra.

Well said mate, I dosed some Fe in a low tech tank. Subsequently I noticed the staghorn algae growing on my spray bar 😂

I havê some questions :P while i'm doing this treatment, do i need to reduce the light or CO2 injection? Can i still fertilize the plants in the Aquarium?
Been dealing with this for months now. Never overrun - seems to die off as it grows… but I have finally splurged on a Co2 system! So hopefully the Staghorn will be gone.

I'm moving up the learning curve with my first tank, but staghorn algae has recently reared its ugly head two months after starting. It has exploded over the last couple of weeks. I think I'm making two mistakes - my C02 is probably on the low side. The CO2 indicator is permanently a darker shade of green - I was playing it perhaps too safe trying to keep PH above or at 6.5. It has definitely been a near transparent lime colour before but I was afraid of harming the shrimp I added. I also used the Estimative Index for fertilisers from Day 1, but I think this requires more experience in the hobby. I'm going to move to the more traditional fertiliser route I know you've recommended on the channel before. I may also reduce my lighting intensity (runs for 7 hours) a little - the Staghorn is really getting thick on plants growing on hardscape near the surface. I'm going to kick off the changes with a blackout and hopefully that plus some pruning will give the plants some breathing space for the changes to have an impact.
How to find the right balance of lighting/ferts/CO2 still seems like a dark art at times!

i might be a bit overdosing the iron.. so thanks for the tip. for the aquarium temperature i can't do below 26 degree because of my tropical country weather. welp gonna increase the time of water change i guess, twice a week 50% should be enough right?
Hi, great chanell indeed! Thanks for sharing. My fish tank is 2,5 months old and I recently noticed this alge. It it mostly growing from 5 to 25 cm below the surface. I don't see it below that level. Is it not strange?
I already increased CO2 but the indicator still isn't as bright green as you show in your movie. I'm going to get some tests tommorow to see if there is any nutrition imbalance. This is my first aquarium and I wanted to avoid adding nutritions to it but looks like I will have to. Thanks again!

Hey, at 1:40, we can see these very small vertically growing mosses. I got these hitchiking with bucephalandras I recently bought. Can anyone tell me what kind of moss exactly this is?
Hi @MJ, at 5.00, you mentioned dosing liquid co2 to help kill off the staghorn, did you mean spot dose or just in the water column.
Im battling bba and staghorn in my non co2 tank. I manually remove the affected leaves but the algae keeps coming back and the cycle continues..

Thank you for that last tip... I had a very warm tank because I thought my guppies were "tropical" and needed warm water. They seem fine in room tempurature water.
Is your flow not to strong with that filter. And if it is to strong how do you slow it down
Hopefully it is low carbon for me, got it covered everywhere except plants with fine needle leaves. Got some Flourish Excel on the way, hopefully it’ll help

Mine is a nano tank 10 gallon, almost 10 weeks old, I’ve got drop checker but never turns green, the solution is working fine by testing it on soda water, now I’ve got staghorn algae, currently running 2 bpm, tried spot dosing hydrogen peroxide lost few shrimps, any advice thank you

Can you please tell me how much (Co2 bubble per second) is perfect and required for 9.5 gallon or 36 liter tank to stay away from co2 related algae.
Hey! It's hard to say in bubbles per second because it depends on a lot of things (flow, diffusor, tank height) So I would suggest for you to buy a dropchecker and just make sure that the dropchecker is nice and green when the lights are on.

I have staghorn issues on my MC so i sprayed it with H2O2, some of the leaves turned white and died along with the staghorn however after a week or so it grew back on the dying leaves and now im seeing it where there is strong flow near my Co2 diffuser. any approach you can recommend?
Try to increase your CO2, and maybe start dosing some liquid carbon.
I have staghorn I getting co2 dosing next month my phosphates are a little high my tap water phosphate come out between 1 -2
I am facing the similar issue also started doing FE. Can you please share your experiences how long does it take to remove all algae? Also should I continue the dosing of FE or once all the algae is gone I should stop dosing it. It seems it's working as it's coming out of the plants easily. But not sure how long it will take to completely remove it.

Do you still recommend an all in 1 fertilizer for people with very hard water? My water has naturally very high iron, calcium, magnesium, etc. so it doesn't seem right to me to add even more of that. I may go to ro water one day but for now I'm trying to figure out what fertilizer my water actually needs and not end up with very high iron that staghorn thrives on. I think I need to add potassium still to the water but beyond that I don't know, nitrogen I assume can be covered by fish waste.
Yeah in your case I would probably go with an NPK fertilizer
Great video thanks for sharing but I keep discus at minimum 28 deg C and I have lots of staghorn algae, I dose liquid CO2 everyday, I change 40% water every 4 days and I’ve reduced lighting intensity and yet I cannot get rid of this algae, is there anything else I can do?

I am getting my butt kicked with stag horn in one of my tanks. It’s the only tank I have a algae issue with. The others have some algae, but it’s handled by my algae eaters. But this tank!! Omg!!! It’s a algae nightmare. It’s on the same light schedule as my others. I just don’t know what to do with it at this point. My pea puffers seem happy with it but I’m not. I’ve pulled as much off as possible. I’m going to try dosing excel and if that doesn’t work, guess that tank is about to become a co2 tank. I’m also looking to change it to canister filtration vs 2 HOBs I have on it now. I also want to add a spray bar to try and increase my water movement.

I saw the whole series of your algae guide , I have one question that is I live in bangalore india , here temperature go from 17 degree Celsius , now the problem is during the day the temperature reaches upto 28 , so from 10am to 5 pm the temperature raises from 23 to 28 . So what can I do to maintain the aquarium temp ???? I have inbuilt heater for winters but during summer, most of the daytime its at 27 degrees .
Yeah if you live in a warm country it's really difficult.. The cheapest option is probably to use a fan, to blow air over the watersurface? And the more expensive option is to use a special aquarium cooler, but those things are really pricey

Low Tech... no CO2 to adjust. Any low tech tank suggestions? Seachem Excel has helped. Fluval plant light now adjusted to longer siesta. All other parameters great, including livestock/shrimp. Still.... Stag Horn persists.
Try adding some more fast growing plants. I assume you are doing regular maintenance? Yeh staghorn is a bit of a mystery sometimes. Just try to focus on growing healthy plants. Eventually it should go away.

@@MJAquascaping both the red tiger lotus (Nymphaea lotus) and Nymphoides spec. Taiwan are also fast growing and trimmed very often. Otherwise, the typical cryptocoryn, lilaeopsis, Alternanthera reineckii Rosanervig, Java moss, ludwigia, etc.
I have a betta fish and 2 cory catfish and 3 shrimps. The staghorn is really starting to bother me. I can’t really have a strong water flow since it can damage my Betta’s fins should i add a bubbler? I have been adding Alge inhibitor in my tank but it doesn’t seem to do the trick of getting rid of it
A bubbler is only gonna make things worse because it removes a lot of CO2 from the water. Do you have a lot of it? Maybe you can spot treat it with seachem excel

@@MJAquascaping so I’m still struggling with it and I’ve notice a lot of it, well the majority of it, is on my piece of wood thats inside the tank. I’ve been treating it with Liquid CO2, and still nothing.
I have a betta I can’t make it a lower temperature or very high flow. I keep clipping and snipping away affected plants but this staghorn I got expands overnight and makes me cry it’s supposed to grow very slow...I working on getting my CO2 set up just been bumpy as I never did CO2 before but I suspect my added light and mulm buildup did this. I want to dose the “liquid CO2” chemical but my tank is only 9g not counting all the space taken up by deco and substrate so I have very little I’m able to put in safely. Is it safe to remove my betta and paintbrush all the plants I can’t trim out and the moss with the liquid CO2 and then after adding water do another immediate water change of 75% to ensure the water isn’t made toxic for when I put the betta back? Or should I put him in my spare 5g while I treat the algae in the manner I just described? If it were you what would you do?
(Assume already dealing with the mulm issues and 3 water changes a week and I stopped dosing (have root tabs anyhow)
In your case I would indeed remove the betta, drop the waterlevel, paint or spray the plants with liquid CO2, let it sit for 10 minutes or so, fill back up and do another small waterchange just to be safe.
And then just try to get your CO2 up and running.

How do u keep a tank cooler other than using bubbles ...
They sell coolers , mini surface fans & also you can just do the ice in a zip lock bag method
There are charts that when you test your KH and your PH it will tell you how much CO2 is in your tank. When I do this the tank reads borderline to much but the drop checker says it's to low. What am to trust?
I would go with the dropchecker. Those charts never work for me 🤷♂️

And how about too powerfull lighting? I wonder if my staghorn algae come from my light - 24W Aquastar + 24W Grolux over my 60 l tank. :) I use CO2 and ferts - micro + macro.
strong lights by itself should not cause staghorn.

@@atanasgeorgiev128 too strong filtration! Over- filtration is very often the case! If you have plenty of plants, good nutrition and - or few fish, you do not need strong filtration at all!! Try reducing the media for example, or the flow out of the filter! If you want more flow, use a extra powerhead, but don't "abuse" tue filter for higher flow! Try it. You'll see it works!

I'm fighting a staghorn algae in my 20 tall aquascape. I believe its from inconsistent co2??
Yep most likely CO2 related!
@@MJAquascaping mosdef. I just purchased the FZONE Mini Dual Stage Regulator.. Man that lil thing is impressive. It's already doing wonders on the inconsistent co2 bubble from EOTD.

@@MJAquascaping dude honestly compared to my Co2Art Pro Se. I like the Mini. Maybe cause its brand new or just because I can use it in so many scenarios . It's great for any size aquariums and diffrent co2 type cylinders.
A month in and staghorn is getting worst even with co2 injection, excel AND h202. I’m about to pull out my blyxa
Blyxa seems to be a staghorn magnet..
Blyxa japonica when trimmed gets so much staghorn. It turned white with seachem excel. It’s starting to die off
Yeah I noticed that as well. I think you also cant trim Blyxa like hairgrass for example. you have to pull the entire plant out, and thin it out like that.

Does blackout help with this Kind of algae?
If you do it long enough probably yes. But your plants might die as well.

I hate this stuff. I've had blue-green, diatom and hair algae. They got nothing on this stuff... it's terrible. So bad that I bought a CO2 system.
Hi! In my case, Normally staghorn appears during 2nd month , and disappears totally to 3rd maximum 4th month I stopped worrying about it, I do not adopt important measures, just wait for the dominance of the plants. There are many theories, several of them contradictory, still is a mistery for me
