What was the best moment of GODZILLA?!
Godzilla's roar is honey for my ears haha
Are you going to watch jurassic park 2
both of the twins in this one! he plays the lead in kickass 1&2.
yes some bacteria can live on nucellar fuel rods an eat radiation
Please watch King Kong (2005) and cloverfield
The best thing about the Monsterverse are the sound effects like Godzilla charging his atomic breath that was insanely good
And king ghidorah’s Sounds are just amazing
The worst part is that theres to much human time
100%
Omg but the Muto's roars and low growls with them clicking sounds 😍
I remember seeing Godzilla on opening night. The entire crowd went fucking WILD as soon as the atomic breath starting charing up
FUN FACT: the reason elizabeth olsen and aaron taylor johnson were even cast in age of ultron is because of their performance in this movie
Seriously?
And they made them both sister and brother 👁️👁️

11:10 You summed this up perfectly. I see at the end you wonder why this movie is rated so low and the reason is because the fans didn’t like Godzilla’s screen time and thought there was too much human involvement. However, I agree with you, the suspense and mystery surrounding Godzilla in this film is perfect and it enhances the climax. And in my opinion the human drama was enough to keep me entertained when the kaiju weren’t on screen. Along with several other reasons including the sound design I thought this movie was a fantastic introduction for Legendary’s version of Godzilla. Might have to move to Patreon for these ones because they’re my favourite, great reaction!
It's a bit like Jaws in some respects, but when he shows up in Hawai and he lets out a roar i almost pissed my pants!
Exactly! They also nailed the scale and the movement of Godzilla here. In Godzilla vs. Kong , they were practically moving at mach speed relative to their size like wtf. This also gave us the best amount of tension and tease. The sight of Godzilla and Kong got really tiresome and bland after being on the screen for so long in the 3rd movie.
Yea I think this 2014 movie is a masterclass in monster movie portrayal. What the general audience craved, what was "lacking", was in fact the very reason why Godzilla had such a high impact - because every time he had screen presence it truly meant something and effort was always devoted 100% to bringing the absolute best of each monster into light. It's like design, if you want to highlight the importance of a detail, you should make its surroundings less attention drawing. A grey shoe with a single bright orange highlight detail makes that detail stand out that much more than a brightly colored shoe where everything is fighting for attention - and you end up devoting no attention to any specific element in isolation. If Godzilla had tons of screen time, the individual scenes would overall be less memorable. Quantity over quality.
also the way the movie was advertised everyone expected Bryan Cranston would be the main human protagonist, instead we got bland military man
Funnily enough, in the Japanese movies Godzilla also isn't shown for a lot of the movie and we're generally just fed the story lines of the humans. That's what this Godzilla tried to emulate and they did it well imo. Somehow people went on to say that "this isn't Godzilla" tho, despite Toho being absolutely fine with this iteration as opposed to the tragedy that was the 1998 one.
Regarding 22:00... yeah, I've got a story for that
I saw this movie in the cinema in 2014, after being a fan of Godzilla for about 5 or 6 years. I loved the old Japanese movies, and was anxious but excited for a modern, American take on the character. Godzilla's 'atomic breath' is easily one of his biggest trademarks, and I was worried that I'd gotten about three quarters into the movie by now without seeing it... and then that scene happened.
And I, as a grown-ass man of 20 years, threw my arms in the air and yelled 'YES!!!', because every single worry I'd had was obliterated in that moment. Trust me, the goosebumps are shared.
My first Godzilla movie, or Godzilla anything, was the 1998 one with Matthew Broderick. It was the reason why I started to watch the old cartoons and the Japanese versions. Despite that movie having a childhood hold on me, I love this movie even more, and this style of Godzilla is my favorite.
I had totally forgot about his atomic breathe and when I saw Godzilla spikes light up, I said holy shit like the whole scene
Same here, man, but sadly i was the only one in theater with my fists in the air, seriously boring people around here 😅
My brother and I have been Godzilla fans since we were both kids and would watch the old Kaiju movies, and when this one came out we went to the theater to see it. And I gotta say, when his back-fins started lighting up, my brother and I both just about did foot-ball cheering because it was SO awesome, and so well done, and such an iconic part of classic Godzilla!
Honestly same, I never saw it in theatres though. But after the Tristar abomination, I was so skeptical. When that scene happened, chills
This is the first film I ever saw Elizabeth Olsen in (at least that I can remember). It also stands out because Aaron Taylor Johnson is also in it, and they both ended up being in Marvel.
And it's weird that they are in a relationship in this movie and they are brother and sister in the mcu
Really close together too, this film came out 2014, AoU came out next year
I think that Aaron actually accepted the role of Pietro because he wanted to work with Elizabeth again after Godzilla
@@witzitzilin I mean who wouldn’t.
I'm not sure ANYONE ever expected her to surpass her twin sisters by so much!
“I didn’t know Godzilla could do that!”
A part of me dies whenever I hear a reactor say that…. The radioactive breath is nearly as iconic as his dorsal spines.
He was still being introduced to godzilla dont do him dirty
I think it's great that he didn't know that. I didn't either when I saw it for the first time when I was a teenager. If I had know it would probably ruin the moment of sheer shock and awe.
fr this the equivalent of reading a superman comic and seeing him flying and saying "i didnt know he could do that!"
This is the best of the Monsterverse films. I appreciate you understanding the value in “less is more” regarding showing the creatures. Some people complained because it wasn’t mindless monster fights for two hours straight.
But they end up complaining when KOTM does that 🙄🙄🙄
every other monstervese movie seems to sacrifice good writing in exchange for spectacle.
@@M3TR01DFANBOY thought the plot for king skull island was pretty good, KOTM was a bit of a downgrade but still my favorite. GvK was just bad whenever the humans were on screen lmao

Whatever. I'm here to watch monster fights. I don't care too much about one family's drama.
23:23 the realization of what’s about to happen right before it happens is what makes that scene one of if not the best scene in the entire monsterverse
I have to agree. The Kiss Of Death is probably my favorite kill in the monsterverse and I'm happy they bought it back in GxK THE NEW EMPIRE.
This movie is awesome!! The suspense is unreal, and honestly the hate it got was so undeserved
I think a lot of people don't like it because we didn't get a lot if monster fighting in this movie i personally have it as my 2nd favorite Godzilla movie behind King Of The Monsters
@@michaeldavis3596 which I think is a silly criticism, the movie is like Jaws, the less you see of the monster, the more suspenseful it is. But I understand and respect your opinion
@@andrewparker318 oh i actually hate that criticism I'm just saying that's why i think a lot of people didn't like it
@@andrewparker318 It’s because the only latest Godzilla movie that got released before Godzilla 2014 was Godzilla Final Wars in 2004. Which is 10 years apart. All the Godzilla and kaiju fans was expecting big actions from Godzilla 2014. Because Godzilla is the main character and plot here not the humans. Understandable criticism but agreed, it is over-hated.
@@andrewparker318 it’s not like jaws, it’s like Godzilla, because the original 1954 film pulled that formula that Jaws would 21 years later. 😜
The sound design for when Godzilla charges up his atomic breath is just spine-tingling, and it's just perfect timing how there's a moment of silence that has us on the edge of our seats, then BAM! Masterful scene.
I think they used the highly manipulated elephant trunket, while for Atomic Breath they used the launch of a Deltra 4 rocket.
@@gojithecringe CORRECT!
The thing I like most about this movie was the way they handled the MUTOs. They weren't evil beings bent on destroying humanity, they were just animals following their natural life cycles, and it was just bad luck that humanity was in the way. The way they reacted to their nest being destroyed made feel genuinely bad for them.
Actually if the mutos did succeed then it would put an end to life as we know it in the monsterverse godzilla keeps the natural order which would be disturbed by the mutos and it is because of of the muto species that godzilla's species is extinct and it might be because of those two and the muto prime that godzilla's father aka dagon aka the skeleton in the beginning of the movie is dead so godzilla already was angry at their sheer existence and if that wasn't enough then keep in mind those mutos are siblings
@@THE_DARK_RAYdo you criticise rabbits for inbreeding? No because that's nature

@@blyat8832 in my opinion. There isn’t anything more I wanted from it

@ULTRA_EG0 Yep. The way they filmed it was to us with questions because, just like the characters, we had no idea what was going on.
"What is that?!" THAT is Godzilla's ATOMIC BREATH, my guy. Fucking LOVE this film, perfect Godzilla movie. He's not here to save us. He doesn't give a shit about us. He just needs to ensure no other monster challenges his claim to the title of King of the Monsters :D
I like how you say bad words
"My timbers are shivered" another seb classic for the books. But for real his roar is absolutely a one of a kinda goosebump inducing sound
I grew up loving Godzilla and the Toho monsters. One day the trailer for this was on tv and it was such a shock to me because it was so unexpected. You best believe my dad and I saw that in IMAX. You know people were OG fans when they started clapping when he roared and shot that first beam out. Such an awesome experience. I’ve been hyped for every Monsterverse movie since.
This version has the best buildup for the beam too, the sound design is sick, and seeing his spine slowly light up is perfect.
@@hellomark1 agreed 👍
Real
I appreciate how much classic godzilla made its way into this version, even the more subtle ways. Godzilla is the Heavyweight champion of Kaiju, but he's only good at 1v1. Anytime he's gone up against more than one monster, its worked out poorly for him, and the exact same is true here. He can easily handle one MUTO, but together he just can't keep up. Its only when they seperate and Godzilla can focus on one, then the other, does he succeed. I don't know if the filmmakers did this on purpose, but its very true to Godzilla's skillset.
literally godzilla final wars beat up 3 kaijus at the same time
@@Kavertz it wasn’t even ransoms. It was kaijus like anguirus or King Caesar lol
I loved this movie. I was a huge fan of the “less is more” approach. It gave of a more realistic view of the monsters from a human perspective and made me care a lot more about them.

@@ULTRA_EG0 this is why GvK fucking sucked Plot-wise. Company sacrificed story for action, and while it made them money, the movie itself is mediocre.

godzilla's first fire breathing moment is actual gold, sickest moment ever.
Yes his atomic breath was awesome
I was one of those guys that mimicked the monsters actions, and I felt so cool mimicking that breath
First person I’ve ever seen to actually appreciate the darkness of the film. Most people complain that the film is too dark and you can barely see sh*t but I personally really love the ambiance of the film, and after having watched the 2 films after this one, coming back to Godzilla 2014 always makes me appreciate the more dark and mysterious atmosphere and makes it probably my favourite film in the series.
The darkness is what makes it so good! It's the same with Pacific rim with all but one fight (Sydney) being at night which adds so much more detail and also allows to hide a bit of the more rough edges.
"I have to watch a horror." The Ritual. It's a great movie about how people process regret but told through the lens of a monster movie, and holy hell is the monster wicked.
“I need a statue of him”.
There’s plenty out there. My office is filled with hundreds of Godzilla figures. I’m a life long Godzilla fan and I’m super excited that you’re getting into the Monsterverse!
Do they have a Gojira figure that’s like 5 feet 🤔
There are some that big. Not cheap once you get to that size though. I have some around 2' tall but the problem is that their tails are super long then.
Hands down, the MUTOs in this were some of the best villains I've ever seen. Their design was awesome, their abilities and physiology was amazing, and I actually believe their scientifically plausible.
Are they really? Wouldn’t any terrestrial kaiju that surpassed 100 feet be implausible ?

GOJIRA!!! I love me some monster movies. Obsession started when I was 9 and I saw the 1954 Godzilla. I can’t get enough of them. Really enjoyed the newer ones too. So glad you’re going on this journey!
Arron Taylor Johnson also plays Pietro Maximoff, Wanda’s brother in the MCU
I mostly remember him from his amazing debut in "Kickass"
This was my very first monsterverse themed film I ever watched as a little kid all the way back in 2015. The nostalgia is striking here for me with those memories man 😢
20:10 This right here is the best shot of the Monterverse. I honestly never gave a damn about the human drama in monster movies, but everything was as realistic as possible, a much more raw approach on such scenario.
And THE SOOOOOOOOOOOUND, THE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUND
If you want to try another modern Godzilla movie that stays closer to the original I recommend Shin Godzilla or maybe even the original Godzilla from 1954. This movie was great but I always feel a little pain in my soul when people only know about these Godzilla movies and not the others.
Shin Godzilla is awesome! This one's really, really good. I could have used more monsters less humans, but not over corrected like the next ones, I just didn't like his roar, I mean I like it as a roar, but not as Godzilla's roar. We should all know what that sounds like :D
I know about the old ones I just don’t watch black and white films much
I saw this in cinemas and oh my god nothing has sounded as good as this movie.
I can't say enough good about the monsterverse, and watching your channel is a pleasure.
But HO. Lee. Chit. That Monorail sequence with the MUTO illuminating into the background. I've LITERALLY had nightmares like that. Props to the psychopath who ran that madness into the movie.

I rather think that he‘ll be blown from the following Monsterverse movies, of how bad they are in comparison to Godzilla 2014🤔
I mean, Kong Scull Island still was quite good, as a Vietnam action + comedy + lost world mix. But everything after warts was „just“ mindless fighting of giant monsters for the stand on top of the food chain.
I mean that’s lowkey everything we want to see, but these films are cinematic movies and not monster fight compilations. The story in between the hyper grafical fight scenes has to work.
And that didn’t in both recent Monsterverse representatives GvK and KOTM. Everything humanly related felt just trashy marvel stuff.
Kong: Skull Island has a little post credit scene that sets up Godzilla: King of the monsters btw 😁
If you're starting the Monsterverse now, be aware of end credit scenes in the following films.
DEFINITELY keep going with the rest of the Monsterverse!!
I saw this in the theater with my brother during Memorial Day and it was frickin Amazing! It was spectacular! This reminded me a lot of what the 1994 American Godzilla movie was going to be before it was cancelled due to budgetary concerns. Jan De Bont was picked to direct the project.
Godzilla was going to be a genetically engineered dinosaur created by an alien race called the Atlanteans that were wiped out by. Cataclysm that no one can explain.
Godzilla was made to protect Earth from extraterrestrial threats, in other words, a shape shifter called The Gryphon that takes the form of various animals to be used in combat against Godzilla.
The film was later cancelled and would be turned into Roland Emmerich's Godzilla 1998.
The sounds like the plot of the Heisei Gamera movies.
@Commenter We haven't even gotten a clue of Destoroyah in the monsterverse
@Commenter Godzilla and King Ghidorah are pretty much equal
The sound design is what makes this movie even better than what it already is for me. The roars and the music are top notch!
It's amazing. I'm so glad you liked it. I guessed a lot of people wanted Godzilla to be in all the scenes, but the mistery and suspense in this movie is amazing. I hope you'll be Team Godzilla ;D
The sounds the monsters make in these movies are the best part for me, they give me goosebumps
Every film in the Monsterverse is great, but as far as the technical aspect goes, nothing has Godzilla 2014 beat. Gareth Edwards filmaking was *on another level* with this one.
Proud to have this as my first IMAX experience (I was eleven at the time lol)
Also fun fact: right now they're filming a Godzilla streaming show set shortly after this movie for Apple Plus. Something to look forward to next year!
I think Kong 2017 cinematography beats it. However, the scene with the soldiers falling from the dark sky in Godzilla 2014 is imo one of the best shots of all time
About the Godzilla of the Monsterverse or another Godzilla?
I remember seeing this in the cinema and that first Godzilla roar literally had the place shaking.. there was a collective ‘wow’ straight after. Genuinely goosebumps
Little fun fact
Godzilla has a set of gills on each side of his neck. He only ever flinched or reacted to being shot at when shot there, like in the bridge scene where he got a little upset about it.
When the 500ft lizard says a human word. And that word is an expression of pain.
You know I found this channel on my weekend and I love this channel 😊
Yes!!! Glad you loved it! I honestly think the Monsterverse just gets better from here! Enjoy the ride!
i personally thing godzilla 2014 is better than godzilla vs kong but godzilla king of the monsters is still on top
Hearing the sound effects and sound design in theater is the best experiance
Watching you react to this made me remember how much I enjoyed seeing it opening weekend with my little sister. We were so hype lol great reaction man 💯😎
I love during the airport scene when the plane is exploding in front of the terminal and the crowd is screaming, how they go silent when Godzilla steps in from the side. It’s so dope
I love these movies! And what you said is so true, they managed to humanize a massive lizard to the point that you care for his wellbeing. I still well up when he falls just before the end!
Just wait till the next one!
And wasn’t Wanda well behaved in this no murders or anything!
Not the first time they did that (and did that well)
also love the scene at the airport when godzilla steps in and everyone goes quiet
Finally I really like the monsterverse movies as well as the Godzilla movies in general been a big fan since I was little
Fun fact when they tested the Godzilla roar they got the biggest speakers they could find, set them up outside the film studio and turned them up full blast. The result was so load people miles away call 911 thinking there was a explosion.
I knew this day would come
Loved you reacting to this, the chills were real this whole movie, was getting goose bumps along side you
The reaction to this film seems to be *very* dependent on if someone's a fan of the more, umm, familiar-to-geek-culture Godzilla films. In other words, how much do you want to see giant monster fights. If that's what you're after then the constant cutaways are frustrating and the fights you do get annoyingly short so I can understand that POV. However... yeah, as a movie this is almost certainly the high water mark for the current Monsterverse, at least so far. Keeping the action off screen until act three gives everything time to breathe and as a result the big moments have so much more impact. The film treating the big G like a true force of nature doesn't hurt either! Honestly about the only misstep was killing off Brian Cranston so damn early which... I get why but yeah, with how heavily he was promoted in the marketing it definitely takes a while for the film to recover (I'd say all the way to Godzilla coming ashore for the first time TBH).
Remember watching Godzilla king of the monsters at school, the monster fights were so cool to see
Great vid
I think it's rather telling that the government nearly killed all those innocent people on that bridge and Godzilla was the one who protected them. Not only did he protect them from the blast, from getting blown up, but he also held the bridge up so as many cars could get across as possible. Of course they kept shooting at him and all those attacks caused him to fall over & crash into the bridge. So the government/military inadvertently killed a lot of innocent civilians trying to take Godzilla down while he's trying to protect these innocent people. With that said, who is the real monster here???
Human Government did more harm than the disaster they were responding to... yeah, that's probably the most realistic part of the whole movie.

Love this one! Also doesn’t hurt that Aaron is so good looking- weird to see him kissing his ‘sister’ 😆
The sound design of this movies easily stole the stage from the visuals. Watching it in the theatre was just otherworldly. Especially the scene with the railway bridge. You could feel the muto "talking", the tension was so real. Easily one of the best sound designed movies in history.
I always shocked whenever people say they didn't know about Godzilla's atomic breath, since it's consistently been his most iconic power ever since the very first film from 1954.
Just speculating, but if a lot of people's first exposure to Godzilla was the 90s movie then that might be it. He doesn't have it in that movie. That was my first exposure to Godzilla. I eventually learned more about the history of him after that because of the internet, but for a long time I thought that was a good representation of Godzilla. I now know it's not... but I still love that movie for the fun action that it is lol.
Loved your reaction,..just so happy to see new fans of Godzilla, and very happy to see you get the chills, thrills, goosebumps, we got as kids watching those first movies back in the late 1960's, and what's incredible, the movies back then didn't even have the special effects of the new movies now,..but as a kid cheering for this giant creature, mega beast, protecting Earth, his home too, it just made it all the more thrilling, ..when he breathes the fire, you were of course unaware, but for us old fans, it's old hat, the only thing I was waiting for in the new movie was what color was it going to be, in the old movies it was like a white hot beam of energy,..here it has a more bluish hue, and I so love how he charges, up the sound they incorporated for that, more vivid, the sound effects crew, absolutely invaluable,..and the actors, yes,you recognized them, I couldn't believe who was playing Dr. Serisawa, Ken Wantanabe, he was in Memoirs of a Geisha, do check it out, it's good,..and Juliette Binoche, who in recent years is doing more scifi, Ghost In The Shell, know her from an incredible movie, think she, Daniel Day Lewis, and the movie itself were nominated for Oscar, The Unbearable Lightness of Being,.they were critically acclaimed for that movie,.it's quite lovely to see her doing scifi, she's a fantastic actress, loads of French and American, British, movies,..do check them out,..and Cranston, I know everyone knows him from Breaking Bad, but when ever I see him in something, I think,.Malcolm in The Middle,..then there's Richard T Jones from Event Horizon, huh do check that out, another scfi horror,,....and David Russell Strathairn, no stranger to scifi, he's in The Expanse, and Alphas, ..Godspeed, Peace ✌

I like this movie, and actually think it's the best in the Monsterverse. Kong: Skull ISland is also a lot of fun, Godzilla: King of the Monsters has some good stuff, but falls a bit flat for me, while Godzilla vs. Kong is a totally skippable, stupid, boring mess.

The Godzilla movies have been around since 1972. I remember watching them since I was 8 yrs old. I have always loved Godzilla!
The skydive scene into the fight is one of the greatest scenes in a movie I have seen
I became a Godzilla fan in 2013 and spent the whole year buying the movies and quickly knowing each monster and film. Imagine my reaction when my 11 year old self learned there was gonna be a new Godzilla film the following year IN THEATERS. I remember it like it was yesterday.
I love the sound design for the mutos, so alien sounding and unique!
Cap lifting mjolnir, and when Godzilla breathed fire down that MUTO's throat are two of my favorite movie moments.
