My dad Sergeant George (Gunner) Burns was in the FSSF, 4th Company 2nd Regiment. He arrived on Anzio the day of the invasion and made it through to the breakout for Rome. The blast from an nearby 88 shell busted his eardrum and that ended the war for him. He was sent home with a medical discharge.
