I just received a Diverticulitis diagnosis and I was confused about the verbal explanation. This video helps me to understand what is going on much better.

This video explains the condition very well. I was hospitalized for diverticulitis in March for eight days with the type of severe case described. The pain was beyond belief. Ruptured colon, abscess on top of bladder, IVs for two antibiotics, not allowed to eat for four days. It worked, eventually. By the time I was allowed to go home I was much better. But now I’m getting occasional pain and cramps and some constipation, despite a very careful diet. Not as bad as before, but bad enough. So, it‘ll be back to the doctor for me. One thing I can’t understand is if a high fiber diet is recommended to avoid diverticulitis, then why the advice for a low fiber diet if you have diverticulitis?

Last Christmas, while dealing with the death of a loved one I was overly stressed and too busy to pay attention to my health despite severe gut pain and fever for 10 days before I dragged myself to Urgent Care. CT scan revealed numerous diverticuli... the pain as you said was ungodly. My follow-up gastro surgeon :-( who was going to do a colonoscopy in 3 months (but had to quit because he broke his arm skiing lol) explained that the fiber issue is tricky as you say very confusing. Consume high-fiber diet in hopes of preventing diverticulitis. But once you have a flare up you need to switch to low/no fiber and depending on the severity limit yourself to a strictly liquid diet possible hospitalization if symptoms are severe as the video indicates. It is like a balancing act on a high wire. I'm in flare up again and had another flare up last summer never had the follow-up colonoscopy. Good luck and good health to you.

@@lisayt3024 Thanks for the helpful and informative reply. I am going through just what you describe even now. Occasional flare ups, but not enough to need hospitalization. Treating it as you suggest; liquid diet for a day or two, etcetera. I don’t think my guts will ever go back to the trouble free behavior I used to enjoy, even though I am now very careful about my diet. “You don’t miss your water until the well runs dry.”

Jessica Parkerson stomach pain, constipation, that constant feeling like going to the restroom but you never do. Goosebumps and then little fever sometimes not wanting to eat stuff like that.

@@kaygeeboi ok thank you. I was wondering because I've been having lower left side pain, like tender to the touch. A lot of gas/bloating, loss of appetite, but bouts of diarrhea and constipation? Also had night sweats for two nights with mild fever but thats stopped. Just the tenderness, bloat and gas thats left. I just thought its stuck or something but when I researched, diverticulitis came up and I have a lot of symptoms. I guess I should go to the doctor.
