She wrote a best selling book about this
It was number 1 for weeks and weeks in Germany
I'm very happy to see her giving a TEDx talk
what is the name for the book?
I just looked it up. It's called Gut.
Cool. I'll get it. Thanks
Would have been better if it was number 2 😅
The title is actually pretty good. Since 'Gut' is German for 'good' :D
I think her adorability made this topic easier to digest🤓
digest, lol!
Loved her sense of humour and delivery of such a morose topic

@Sid Sidney and HOT don't forget HOT
Just stumbled upon this awesome video and your terribly funny retort! Perfect! 🧡
Probably one of the best ted talks done in a very honest, humble and courageous way possible! Delightful indeed.
She rabitted on about herself and not the science of gut biology. Also, auto-immune is genetic, not about cleanliness.
@@elizabethblackwell6242 there are many possible triggers for starting autoimmune process. Such as: stress, leaky gut syndrome, excessive insolation, lack of sleep, parasites. Genetic is not the only one.
@@oksanaulula If that's the case, you'll have plenty of research to support your view. Could you cite it?
@@elizabethblackwell6242 I didn't make that up. Doctors in determining the possible trigger mechanism for each individual ask the question: what do you think could serve as an impetus to the beginning of the autoimmune process in you personally? Have you been under stress recently, have you received excessive solar irradiation, have you been tested for parasites, have you ever had such a thing in your relatives?
Good
She’s got an adorable way of presenting really good information no one talks about, while also making it interesting & easily digestible (pun intended!) for the average person.
What this woman did took guts. Her book hit #1 but settled down at #2. Her competition tried to silence her but she wrecked ‘em. The info on the gut-brain connection is food for thought. Some may find it hard to swallow. But she made it very digestible.
They transplanted gut bacteria from a skinny rat to a fat one and vice-versa, and the skinny rat became fat and the fat one became skinny... That's how important gut bacteria is important to us.
The real question is what would happen if they reversed it.
Insane!
What a lovely, pleasant and smart woman
The graphics were excellent

Why haven't more people seen this.. Literally half way through I looked down and said "thank you, I love you" to my gut. This is so cool what the heck. But on a serious note, it's my understanding that the state of one's gut -- and how connected it is to our brain -- is inarguably crucial and important to consider when regarding one's mental health and/or general health. "... people who have conditions like IBS or IBD, they have a higher risk of having anxiety or depression." I strongly feel that when somebody is ill, we need to evaluate various parts of their body -- primarily the gut -- before administering antibiotics or medications. Treat the root cause of the illness, not the symptoms. (:
Logan... if only doctors would start thinking like that!
Totally! The quacks need to step back from antibiotics and learn more about things like kefir.
You think this talk was good... Check out her book!
I bought it STRAIGHT AFTER I watched the talk and it doesn't disappoint. Also, I enjoyed the fact she was humble enough that she didn't feel the need to promote it.
I'm suffering with IBS from last 3 years, and I have anxiety and depression too 😞
Yes, we all need to eat freshly washed fruits and veggies as our main dish with a fist size portion of fish or chicken as a side dish. But mostly focus on beans like lentils instead of meat for protein. Saurcrout and plain greek yogurt are excellent for your gut. Nuts and seeds too.
See, TED? That's what we want!

This 14 minute video taught me more about my condition than any GP or doctor could in the last 13 years. Although I wouldn’t change a thing because of the understanding and strength I have taught myself in order to cope, I wish this awareness of gut health and mental health was more known back then. Awesome work. I look forward to reading more of Giulia’s work.

Read her book last year. Definitely recommended. Started me on my own personal journey of finding out foods and things I could do to help culture beneficial flora in my gut. My mood has become more consistent, my immunity to any bacterial infections had improved and ultimately my life had improved because of it. I also ate a highly processed diet until at least the age of 18 where I was hospitalized at least once a year with an infrequent illness/infection. So I have to thank Giulia for that and wish her all the best in her research going forward.
?
@Flavour Junction I just looked it up. It's called Gut.
Thank you for the info. Will definitely buy the book
Can you please share some of your findings? What foods do you recommend to help culture beneficial flora in your gut? Where can I go to learn more, as I assume her book does not give you actionable steps but more background science?
@Ed Thanks.
Please more gut bacteria talks. Very interesting.
12:50 "Our immune system needs the bad (bacteria) too so it knows what it's looking out for." --That was a gem.
I would be willing to be studied for a break through on the relationship between gut health and depression. I have had clinical depression and anxiety my whole life. I have also been obese and had digestion issues my whole life. This is very interesting to me. I have so much mental illness in my family and life and society just wants to throw a pill at the problem. It's refreshing to think that I might be able to medicate this with proper diet.
Hi Samantha. A year later, how are you? Did you try to see if cleaner eating would help you? I had very bad mood swings and autoimmune disease, turned out it was a sugar intolerance and all I ate non stop was high processed carbs... Anyways.. Hope you are well!
Samantha Rank ...Go you Samantha. You are so right. Yes our food is our medicine. Slowly but surely you can change your genes by what you feed yourself from here on in.
How are you doing? I wish you the very best. ❤️🌺💃🏻🌺❤️ Keep studying and learning and the difficulties will keep melting away. We are all evolving together.
Try a vegan diet
Some books you can read are Depression Free Naturally, The Plant Paradox and last but not least A Mind of Your Own by Psychiatrist Kelly Brogan. I hope this finds you well.
Good on you Samantha don't give up you're in the right track. Get into Kefir if you can. Brilliant stuff. 'Chron's babe' gives a 101 on how to make. Very easy and so health giving. Lots of love on your healing journey xx
Great talk, very accurate. 90% of serotonin production is in the digestive tract so if the environment in the gut is disrupted or damaged then it's very possible that serotonin production can be hindered, resulting in symptoms of depression/anxiety.
Ryan Hesmondhalgh Ah maybe that’s why I always have uncomfortable stomach and depression
@@klikbayt oh for sure, digestive problems cause severe anxiety and viceversa
She just made the boring looking organ so interesting. Thank you Guilia ,thank you TED!
Omg I thought it will be about our gut feeling. It wasn't. Was not disappointed tho.
Anpeo same here :(
Actually, it was. What we call gut feeling is a result of the nerve tissue between gut and brain that she talked about.
Yes, a few words beginning at 8:34
Edit : she even mentions the conscious/unconscious in her initial presentation in German (subtitles in FR/EN...) ruclips.net/video/MFsTSS7aZ5o/видео.html although it's still not about the intuitive gut feeling.
> "although it's still not about the intuitive gut feeling."
Well, Enders suggests just that in her book!
Scientific studies of this brain-gut connection are relatively recent and more knowledge is coming in.
Intuition comes from our subconscious. The gut contains a lot of unconscious nervous tissue that as we now know is intimitely connected to our internal organs and brain. I think there is way much still to be learned here to say what constitutes our "intuitive gut feeling" and what doesn't!
Much to be learned, but how ? Except for some brain mapping, decades of IRM, brain scanning, brain cell physiology and biochemical knowledge haven't enlighted us much on how consciousness and ideas work... ?
This was educational and so amusing at the same time! 😂
I love her book! it's in this style
@@kasiawrz what's her book called?! I want to read it!
What do you love about her?
How did she just capture my attention so well...? She is amazing!
She's so intelligent!
Very Well Educated.
Why this comment? It seems that u are surprised by that fact. Why would you?
Loved this so much! I wish more TED talks were like this one, informative, charming, and helpful.
So much wisdom in this talk. I like her humble style.
she is amazing! she made a talk about guts sound artistically beautiful, and she is very very charismatic!!!
Interesting, amusing and well presented.
That was so interesting! Please, more TED's about the human body
Giulia - Love your book, Love this talk - you’re giving us all a great gift, in so many ways: valuable, fresh information and valuable, fresh freedom to be more comfortable with ALL the uncomfortable parts of ourselves and to be curious and informed about those parts and how those parts fit and work together. So helpful and inspiring - Thank You!
Great talk, more of these pleas.
Love. She’s such a bright spirit. Love
WOW this is the best TED talk I’ve ever heard.....I’m looking at my gut in a different way.....Guilda your amazing ❤️
Wonderfully informative and beautifully and charmingly conveyed. Thank you Gulia.
Fantastic TED talk! Really informative. Great stuff
One of my fave ted talk ever. Brilliant!
Her voice is so calming!
This is my favorite TED talk ever! Thank you
absolutely lovely explained
Charming gut and a charming speaker.
Good video.
Did not that there is such a beautiful face behind the powerful book i have been reading currently. I pictured someone to be in late 40s or 50s. This talk will inspire me even more to complete the book. 😁
Fascinating! Such great info about our relationship between the two brains.
Wow,I learned a ton of new things! ...Thanks a million for sharing in such a humorous way!
A lovely person making an unlovely subject tolerable 👍👍👍 I’ve had depression and gut problems my whole life, so I just checked this book out of the library. Thanks for the info!
Charming indeed in so many ways 😊 thank you each and every one involved in making these important information available 😍
That title gave me so much hope for a good topic. It almost feels wrong to learn something from TED these days.
I am so happy to watch n listen to her. I hv read her book twice... So well written and explained in layman terms
Very charming lady delivering fascinating information in an entertaining and funny way. Great talk, thanks for sharing Giulia. Your 'Gut' book is brilliant too.
I absolutely loved that presentation!
I love this talk. I've watch it twice just for the presentation
Wow, what a pleasure to listen to her!
Thank you, Giulia Enders (aka 'she', 'her').
I might be tempted to buy the book after having seen how well done this was.
I think Julia is just as charming as the subject she talked about, this was such a lovely presentation =)
Smart, intelligent, interesting, beautiful, and her soft sweet voice. Thank you Giulia!
Very interesting talk. I had a stomach infection in my teens and my gut changed a lot after that. Different smells, no longer can have dairy, etc. I really don't know how healthy that is. The bacteria culture inside of you are really a big part people never think of.
@ 12amoresmusicaismp4
One of the best presentations, that i saw! That was almost the theater monologue and science conference rolled into one!
In the beginning, We all got that funny giggly feeling that happens during biology class 😁thanks!.. Really well done! The IBS n depression link seems very real.. I know certain people..
Ah yes, IBS 'n' depression. I hear the Bad Luck Restaurant is serving it as a special. 😄
What an amazing funny teacher. I love this talk
What an amazing talk! Thank you Giulia!
Such a treat to listen to her talk on the topic of gut (kinda ironic and surprising). She's an amazing storyteller and the facts about the science are intriguing. What an intelligent and creative person!
Extremely interesting. Fascinating, " 90% of communication from the gut to the brain" and the only example i can think of is "your full stop eating" lol
What about "'Please fill me!' -Your Gut"?
Thanks for a great time. Very inspiring
wow..such a clean talk. very informative..brilliant analysis..funny graphics . right on point. I am sure we need more experts like her on GUT and Colon workings. I wish her break through findings in her career so that all of us humans gain good health from her achievements. I am fascinated to read her best selling book GUT.
excellent presentation
nicely described.. u made to giving information about gut so easy.
Thank u.
Great presentation on this!
Welp...looks like he deleted his comment
Lots of great information and fun to watch! Keeping the gut healthy is so important for the entire body!
Super sweet and amazingly intelligent narrative
She has a very good signaling body language. The points she makes are in very good sync with how she moves her hands, very nice!
A good start at discussing this topic. I see there are additional talks about the gut. Keep it up TED. Gut and Consciousness.
I really recommend her book, it's a fascinating description of how the gut works. I found it by chance on a bookstore a couple of years ago and loved it, very educational.
nice and thought provoking...thanks
It is amazing that I came across her book in my local library, a version that is written in Chinese. As a medical student, her book is amazing and so interestingly written. Highly recommended
finally explains why I rush to junks when Im stressed. Thank you, Guilia. You are a sweet person.
I am lost for words. Thank you for making a good life better.
This was a great talk, blending humor with science is a great way to get attention to the topic, doesn't hurt that she's easy on the eyes too.:)
You have a lovely personality and the way you conducted the lecture was brilliant,Beautifully explained specially with the images.thankyou so much
Excellent talk; loved it!
I wondered about the connection between the gut and the brain in the past too, after looking it up and finding more than I thought I would, it made me look at mental health quite differently since.
Great Presentation, very enjoyable !
Super helpful. Thank you very much
Yep, bought the book. This is genius. Mental health/ gut health connection is fascinating.
She's so adorable ❤ enjoyed the book!
Wonderful talk which also has a philosophical takeaway: cleanliness is not about eliminating the “bad” as that is impossible to do, but cleanliness is balancing between bad and good.
Also, the mind and the body might not be as distinct from each other as some people think, but a whole, unified organism working back and forth.
Such an awesome price presentation. I had fun whilst getting educated!
This talk was really good!!
Great Guilia, like your book aswell love it!
Truly fascinating topic, cant wait to hear more as science develops in this area!
Thank you
It was actually helpful! Especially the fact about having mood swinga in mornings is so relatable. Now i know why i feel bad after a long day and skipped meals. It's not just about hungry stomach; rather an angry stomach
What an awesome talk! Full of humor and facts.
So clearly and profoundly illustrates the notion that how you move is more important than what you move.
She has a book on this. AMAZING and FULL of info. So good. Highly recommend.
Kelly Dudzik do you have it, i just wanted to ask that does this book have any information regarding piles or IBS
Very different perspective on cleanliness. Liked it. Thanks.
Really great presentation
Nice presentation , Great and I enjoyed
as someone growing up with ulcerative colitis and have gone through two surgeries i found this insanely fascinating
This lady is intelligent funny and I could listen to a 1 hour lecture from her on gut health. 15 min was NOT enough!
Love this! Funny and educational
I love her book!
Temática importante e bem comunicada !
Giulia Enders deserves a standing ovation!
Lovely, informative TED Talk, and I love the drawings! An animation of this talk would be a great educational tool!
