    What I love the most is all these people on here telling the FORMER MMA MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION that his defence is wrong. Thanks RUclips comments, I’m glad I passed by.

      He he he. Me too bro. Most of them (if not all) never stepped into the rings of all those championships that Cung Le won in their lives. And they talk like they are the champs or experts.

      @@melvic2043 I step into the kickboxing ring every day and do understand that this lesson is totally incorrect. First of all for kicks workout you must put on the defence on your legs. Second you must do workout but not what was on this video. Third this hard block is very dangerous and incorrect. I got two arm bones crushed doing like this in 1995.

      i like the argument that : youtube comment = irrelevant
      and the fact that you're basically saying "how do you know better about X than the guy who was a Z champion" ? you dont ask the car engineer how to repair a plane's tires, yes he's used to workin with them but the guys who specializes in it certainly know alot better.. so you ask muay thai champs about kicks not mma champs.
      edit: wont correct the grammar mistakes cuz i know your first primal reaction is "learn how to speak proper english first" so go for it
      cheers

    Reflective drill. Benny the Jet Urquidez perfected this defense, theoretically invented it.

  • @marsoc0326
    @marsoc0326 10 лет назад +2

    For those saying you will just break both arms doing this, notice that at the beginning of the video (because he doesnt do it later on on the partner drill) he takes a small half step GOING WITH the kick taking the brunt away like a rolling with a punch along with using both forearms not exactly the hands because theres less muscle and just meat to absorb the energy.Using both forearms doubles the surface area absorbing the kick and the second blocking hand or forearm is closer is higher on the kicking leg where theres less force compared to the lower part(like getting hit with a whip or a stick. The closer inside the less kinetic energy.

    Now the body is open. Id rather block both halfway then leave myself fully open. Its hard to tell the dif between a high and a mid roundhouse, especially against unorthodox (Karate/Taekwondo/Kung Fu type striking styles) strikers such as myself or Cung Le.

    Best way is NOT try to block a high kick or any kick! Avoid wasting energy or risk getting hurt.

    • @VoidraMusic
      @VoidraMusic 10 лет назад +4

      you realise by not blocking and dodging your wasting energy right? by no counter attacking or doing something productive is wasting evergy, blocking a high kick like how he demonstrated saves time and allows you to counter because it takes time for his kick to retract, you could even hook it and sweep the leg

    • @Martial-Mat
      @Martial-Mat 10 лет назад +2

      VoidraMusic He's not saying back away, or don't counter. If you're quick enough, moving forwards and attacking without blocking is one option.

    • @miguelbermudez5426

      I agree. My thai teacher says that this is the easiest way to get a broken forearm. One needs to use the other hand (palm) to properly block a kick to take the impact off. 3 hard shots like that and you have no defense.

    • @harshaana
      @harshaana 6 лет назад +2

      well, if you are close enough, the only option is block. And blocking through forearms..hmmm...better if they are seasoned. Else, palm blocks can be better, they absorb the impact better.

    • @virginiamartin6124
      @virginiamartin6124 5 лет назад +1

      @@harshaana risk breaking fingers when you deflect with palm. There is a lot of different techniques that obsorb and leave you in a position to counter right off the block

    They learnd me to hit the toes when someone does a high kick, so all their energy is transfered to the heel. and that hurts.

    isnt this dangerous too? in this situation you may break both of your hands. or not?

    • @zedek_
      @zedek_ 10 лет назад +5

      It's obviously preferable to not get hit at all. That said, you are less likely to break something if you use both arms *and* if you turn into it. Not only do the two arms help distribute the force, but that side of the arm is much better at withstanding "shear force".
      Also keep in mind, while Cung Le may not be a UFC champ, he is an international kickboxing champ. He's defeated Muay Thai champions with his Sanshou, and attained Sanshou championships in both the US and China. To me, that earns him a lot of credibility.
