"Power has been cried by those stronger than me, Straight into the face that tells you to rattle your chains If you love being free." Is one of the best lyrics written in a long time. The way Mavis sings it with a little laugh just gets me deep in my soul.
It always seems incredible the amount of people who don't know who mavis staples is, or even the who the the staple singers are.
My favorite thing about this performance isn’t the singing. It’s the pure joy in their faces. That shared love of music, shared respect for talent.
There is very rarely a time I don’t want to listen to Hozier his voice and the whole feel of this song is incredible. Plus the whole idea of a tribute to activists and singers like this is beautiful. Wow.
He’s got quite a few songs based in activism: swan upon Leda (women’s rights), jackboot jump (self explanatory), take me to church (the churches cruelty towards and suppression of the lgbt community), I’m sure there’s more

That song gives me goosebumps to no end. Every time I hear it. The voices, the melody and especially the words. Everything has so much depth and truth in it.
Please react to Hozier singing Movement live at the Current. It's an extremely well done live performance. I love this one, of Nina Cried Power, but I suspect it is not actually live. That said, the one at the current is and it's one of his most famous songs next to Take me to Church
Yes it was live, it's like the live versions they do on BBC radio, the audio is live but in some scenes there are cuts in the video and the takes are better, if you look at when it's a band or several musicians there are almost always cuts
