God! This is so enjoyable. Mavis Staples, you are LEGEND. I can sit up and listen to you all night. You are one hell of a remarkable lady. So inspirational. Hope I can carry a little piece of you in me. Much respect.
Yay!!! Hozier i am so moved by this interview. My late mother Lee Chamberlin played in Let’s Do It Again as Mr. Poitier wife. I still have the 45rpm. This was the ticket to meeting Mavis while she was on tour in Paris circa 1994. The pleasure I had hearing Pop Staples live at NY Summerstage talking about his friend Martin. I’ll never forget seeing him sitting in the sunshine solo with his guitar. Just precious. 3 people don’t like this? Haters still and that’s sad. So looking forward to connecting with you in Gods time. Thank you for this powerful song.
She always used to call him Andy and now she calls him Hozie. Could she be ANY more adorable?! I'd love a whole series of chats with Mavis and Hozie. She's lived through so much, and I would love to hear her share her life story and life lessons with us in a forum like this.
I loved this podcast so much I had to listen twice! I could literally sit and listen to Mavis and Andrew talk and share stories for hours, even years! 🖤🖤 It broke my heart to hear the hatred her and her family faced growing up and to see it happening all over again in this day and age shakes me to the core. Amazing podcast!! I hope to hear more from Andrew and Mavis on stage and on podcasts in the future!! Can I say I ABSOLUTELY love that Mavis calls Andrew “HOZIE” or is it “HOZEY” either way it’s adorable!! 🖤🖤
Just listening to mavis talking about her story and her sad experiences with a motivate perspective and with a smile and jokes is really precious like her aura is full of joy and kindness and positive energy despite of all of that bad and sad story it really gives us hope and she is really as Hozier describes her in the begining like she can deliver that impression with her voice only I mean she's just talking and we can feel the good vibes by just listening to her voice And really nowdays we need this message we need to learn that there is always hope after a bad time we can live the good time if we gother with one another and porchase a good life for everybody so thank you so much Hozie and keep the good work up I really appreciate you and your talent and your good thoughts 👌😍😍😍 Greetings from Morocco
That was just LOVELY. I could hear her tell stories for hours. It was also really interesting as it was the first episode where the guest was someone who directly experienced the oppression, opposed to it being told by an ally, and that really changed the vibe of the episode - plus it Mavis Staples who I officially adore as a human being and I hope she's invited back to tell more stories. The fact she calls Hozier Hozie is ADORABLE
Oh Thank you Hozier for all good things you're doing and you'll do in the future ,with your music and with your person, your way to show us these great initiative for the good of people, that need to be helped and to be supported, from all the people of good heart . Hope world will be better in the next years ,hope to the end of all the bad wars in this planet ,hope it will be time to save it .Music can do much ,as you all are doing with your music, around the world ,to give good exsemple with your writing songs like Nina cried Power ,and others . Mavis Staples has always been in this spirit of love ,her song speaks about her great soul and her great voice ,full of all sentiments that she has inside .May God protect all the Children in the world !
This is such a beautiful interview, I feel truly blessed to just hear this precious conversation. Miss Staples when did you realize you were singing freedom songs? When she and her family met Dr. King! My Lord, she is a gift. They both are so wonderful and impressive humans. To hear them speak and just be human is so inspiring to know that these massive mountains can be moved. It’s not the waking, it’s the rising. 🙌🙌🙌❤❤❤
“Hozie” is such a sweet name, Mavis is a precious soul and makes you realize how recent the civil rights movement really was
"I don't call him Andrew, I gave him my own name, I call him Hozie"
SHE'S SUCH A SWEETHEART OH MY GOD
Her voice is like a hug 🥺💕

I can't listen to this whole thing right now, but clicking on it and seeing them beaming beside each other just made me happy.
Just got out of his second show in Chicago - and apparently Mavis Staples was there to see him tonight!!
Can't wait to see the great Ms. Staples perform next month! What an absolute icon, of humanity & kindness & justice as well as music 🙌
