The '43 coppers and '44 "steelies" are both rarer than hen's teeth but do exist. Most likely in some wealthy person's collection. Did you know the "surplus" '43 steelies planchets were turned into 1944 Belgium 2 Franc coins?
About 4 years ago I went to a couple coin shops and got 5k wheat cents for about $150. I threw in a few Indian heads and a 1909 wheat. I took them to a local auction house and they sold for just over $1,200.
Found dime metal detecting in the water, after taking 4 to 5 shovels to the shore, I found it and I looked at it and I knew that it was old for one then I saw dime like at the bottom of it, so I went home and looked at it again an saw a lady sitting on something on the front, flipped it over an it had half written on the top, I didn't even know that they even made a half dime ,flipped it back and it had 1878 on the front pretty shore because it's the oldest coin I've found next to a 1883 o,silver Morgan head dollar both from in the water at a old beach. I bought a large piggy bank for $10 bucks and it was full of what pennies very early dates when I broke it put them in rolls and forgot about them, I might need to go check them! They looked to be in fabulous shape! Thanks for the info

Great to see, I do coin runs in the UK for commemorative coins I've sold lots of 50p for 8-10 times more than face value, just starting doing £2 runs and some of these will fetch 2-4 times face value.
I took my 1909 wheat penny to a pawn shop. he told me it was worth 10 dollars he gave me five dollars for it. did I get ripped off? It was in great shape

This is why I pick up pennies up here in Canada The banks still give them out of you ask nicely ;) So ultimate find last week 2 gold half sovereigns in a penny roll ($400in gold) 😮 I also found 3 rolls of 1943 steel cents And sold them for $3 a lot - lot of 3 with all 3 mint marks Did really well 👍

I have hundreds of wheat scents and also Buffalo head Nichols all the Buffalo head nickels are in plastic tubes that are at least 25 to 35. Years old I would like to say they and I have to go through them.
I have a jar full of wheat pennies. I work at a gas station and by any I see. I havent seen really rare ones though. I have several from the teens, some earlier, bunch from 20's and 30's. Also found an Indian Head penny from the 1870's, just cant make out what specific year.
If the distribution center for my state, which is probably the size of the distribution center of a large city can scan 60,000 parcels that's everything from a piece of mail to a small envelope every second. Then why can't we scan pennies that fast?

I would assume most wheat cents from eBay have been cherry picked. Ironically, especially the ones that go out of their way to label them as "unsearched". Also, you mention getting them for ~1.5 cents, yet I'm looking at auctions right now selling a single roll anywhere from $2.99 to $9.
Sum Dood he claims that he buys his rolls from private sellers on craigslist or estate sales garage sales ....they are probably the same people who try to sell them on eBay for more of an explanation see my comment in this thread. This is not against silver picker just trying to save some people cash from my own failures in buying.

2 years late, but came across this video again by chance. I have only seen one local estate sale with coins, but there is a local private auction house that has decent lots of coins come up about once a month. I still haven't seen rolls of pennies, they were mostly easily recognizable individual us coins.

I have 5 1943 steel wheat pennies. My in laws had a whole bucket of wheat pennies and I've just hung on to them. Have no idea how to sell them.
Search them first and then sell them on eBay or at a coin show. Sell em for 5-7 cents each. You'll do well
