The VFX is where the bulk of the movie budget goes too, so much work to try and make it look realistic. But it is surprising to see how much of this is the real actors and how much is VFX. Gone are the days when practical effects were used to make movies, nearly everything is digital now.
Amazing how during T2 CGI was only in it's infancy, yet with a mix of practical AND CGI and acting, is a far superior movie that stands up today!!

Definitely! The liquid FX for T1000 were mind-blowing, and still looks awesome. Same goes for the miniature sets, forced perspective and front & rear projection. That's why its one of the most iconic FX movies of the '90s.

Maybe if film makers put as much effort into the script as they do the visual effects then maybe the movies would be worth watching
Can't be bothered to watch actioners anymore, the plot is definitely an after thought now. CG has it's place but like you say a decent script and some effort at plausible story line would go a long way with people who don't want brainless pap...

Also he had a valve in his heart replaced a few years ago so can’t do as much. He went back to 220lbs in Genisys just 5 years ago

And just think folks, the visual effects and stunts in T2 were almost all practical and in-camera. There were very few CG clips. The moral of the story... practical stuff looks real because IT IS REAL.
actually there was a lot of CG in T2 but it was always mixed with practical effects and/or real set pieces. The CGI was a complement, not a replacement.
@@lajeandom I had the old T2 laserdisc deluxe set with a myriad of behind the scenes footage. There were very few CG shots. Most were models and/or in-camera effects shots such as true stunts (full scale and forced perspective tricks), animatronics, and specialized makeup.
@@lajeandom Your mindset is stuck in 1990s. CGI could actually very well replace practical effects and it would also look a lot better. Practical effects are a thing of the past mostly. Doing it digitally is better and cheaper and gives you a lot more control over the final outcome.

Wow! That was incredible. So much work goes into VFX shots to make it look real. Even the helicopter crashing is all CGI. And the blue screen swap outs are amazing. Well done!
Except that it doesn’t look real. It looks exactly what it is, a glorified CGI fest that everyone knows its fake on screen.

It's so amazing that even simple dust that shoots up when you fall down are VFXed...
The only actor that will actually have the balls to do his own stuns for real is none other than Tom Cruise himself. Take an example of MI: FALLOUT. He literally jump off from a cargo plane hundreds of time to get the perfect shot. Flew an actual helicopter and even hanging on helicopter hundreds of feet in the air.

6:26, Arm getting blown off a solider's body in the helicopter explosion was some hyper realistic details added in that sequence there, wow! Its just a damn pity the film doesn't help such tight details being placed into a rather lackluster movie though!

you have to appreciate the work that goes into VFX. many may think it's lazier/easier than practical effects. it's not.
All that work and the end result is often worse than practical effects. So why do they still insist on this crap CGI? Its not doing any good for the film industry!

I respect the VFX artists very much and I really liked the movie, exception to a few things here and there.
I understand the criticism, though. It would be way better if practical fx were still being used more and with less reliance on CGI. Nowadays it's complicated ($) to get this ballance, I guess.

Cgi has spoiled traditional movie making
No its enhanced filmmaking overall, but it is also something as a tool thats tends to be overused by those with little talent and no real vision however! CGI used in the right hands can make good tremendous blockbusters! Sad fact is thats slowing becoming a forgotten art though.

Is this the firs time BLUR studios worked on a big movie project? I only know them from their CGI game trailers.
Someday someone will create a movie that runs on my computer and allows me to change the camera angles since all the data is rendered in real time. But I've been waiting decades for this.
I swear to good they cant make movies without completely overusing cgi these days. Terminator 2 was a great example of the use of practical effects. They just used vfx to support scenes, but they never dominated the movie. What people are not aware of is, who bad movies like this will age. You can still see Terminator 2 and think: "What a well made action movie" but with this one it will be different.

Everyone is commenting that real and practical effects are better. This movie shows that nowadays CGI is as good as practical effects, sometimes even better.
“Sometimes even better” means that practical effects still is and will always be the gold plateau that CGI will never achieve. CGI will never pass the believable test, its ruining hollywood because everyone knows its fake.
