The headlight switch isn't useless. They put it there so you can clean or replace your lights so you don't have to turn the lights on. Also just fun to play with :)
Another reason for that headlight up button is for use during the winter. I leave my headlights popped up during icy days to keep them from freezing shut - as in "I can't use my headlights at night when the car is iced over".
This as the gears for the headlights are plastic and break easily if any stress is put on them. The button is to leave the lights up but off in the colder months.
The switch to pop the headlights up is used if you're expecting ice or snow. The manual says the headlight up/down motor may not be strong enough to open the lights or may strain to the point a fuse is blown if the hood and lights are iced over or have a certain amount of snow covering them.
8:29 Maybe the center console cubby is like that because the miata is originally a right hand drive car, and they decided to leave it as it was for the LHD cars too, to save a penny :)
Giving your roof a few months, before it starts tearing like hell, if you keep opening it like that. Be gentle with that stuff, that material is bound to be ruined easily.
Just to say, the middle compartment latch is on that side because it uses the same center console as the right hand drive mx5s, which is what the car was designed on (Japan is right hand drive) so from the drivers position, its easier to reach over and unlatch the compartment from that side. It evidently wasnt changed on the left hand drive models
The air conditioning mechanical valve change sound, you said you never see that today. My Mazda 2 does it haha. It's pretty new 2013. Your Miata looks really clean. Keep making these videos!
The cupholders are OEM, but don't come with the car. The velcro was added by the previous owner, lol. When i bought mine, there was an ash tray there. I opted to buy the cupholder, as even if it creates an uncomfortable shift position, it's better than nothing.
Mechanical ac buttons are easier for me to adjust without having to look down. Touch screen is a bit harder since my fingers don't get that feedback to know what I'm adjusting.
I love your videos man! I love Miata's (MX5 where i live) and im actually purchasing my second one in a few days! I cant wait to get back into one, its been far too long haha. Keep up the videos man!
+Nicholas Jozwik That's not true in any of the cars I have owned or driven, my dad's current car I drive sometimes has the image the same as my car, but his filler is on the opposite side of mine.
The gas tank side indicator is based on which side the pump handle is on, so the handle is on the right in your car so you'd obviously have to pull in so the gas pump is on your left
yes that cup holder is factory the reason why there's velcrow is the clips that keep it in place are flimsy. Also your regular ignition key works on the center concle and glove box locks.
The center part with the latch all the way at the back is actually for when it locks. Mine opens from the front but when you lock it, it locks at the back
The key for ignition can be used to lock the center console(and glove box). The locking clip is plastic so if someone really wanted to get into it he or she could easily break it open.
Mechonomist in a normal mx5 19.. there weren't places to hold cups that place where the cup holder was u st to be a ash tray. I use myne for spare change.
+Dan Roberts was just about to post this. i'm learning locksmithing as a trade, the car key is for a wafer lock, on the doors and the ignition, the wafer locks on the glovebox and center console are short, so that only the cuts on the end of the car key are needed. something i figured out weeks into owning my mx5 was: after locking my gps unit in the glovebox, i had to stop the car remove key from ignition, to unlock my glovebox. i took a measurement of the key depth and cut a short key (your local tool store might be able to cut the key, if not it shouldnt cost much to have a locksmith cut one for you. these short keys wont be able to open your car doors or start your car,as the "masterkey" is your car key
apparently Mazda added the headlight button for cleaning purposes, but I typically use mine when driving at night. That way the motors dont have to go up and down every time I park.
+Sam Williams I have heard from friends who winter drive there Miatas that the button is also great for days when you know it's going to snow/freezing rain, you can pop them up and then you are guaranteed it won't be frozen shut in morning! I mostly use mine for cleaning and waving at other Miatas though! Broken motors aren't a common issue, so though you are right about that possibly saving a bit of headlight motor life, I don't worry about it in my car. They also aren't too expensive for a used one.
***** The main reason that I'm concerned with it is because my first car had them, and they eventually broke and had to be up all the time! Just being careful I suppose. I am sure they are fine. Good to know they are reliable though!
Sam Williams was it a Miata that broke? I know some cars are known for breaking them and being crazy $$$ to fix, Miatas are petty durable though, and not much to replace with used if they do go!
***** It was not. I had a 1993 Saturn SC2 with the pop ups, and it was the first year of the car so it had some problems. they ditched the pop ups a few years later.
these cars certainly do not have ODB2... and idk what you were doing with your feet there! but if you work on your heel toe (angle the foot) instead of rolling the side of your foot onto the accelerator, you can certainly heel toe in a stock NA MX5 =) cool car!
So many things different than my stock NA. Visors are different, I don't have a light at the top like you, my tombstone is more square and yours is very rounded, even the hvac panel is rounded.
I've found that the car is so tiny you can park on either side of the gas pump and just pull the hose over haha. Also I stuff my drink in between the side of the center console and the seats, they fit pretty snugly there. I don't even bother with locking the doors cause someone will just rip your top anyways. Id rather have a stolen cheap aftermarket radio then a stolen cheap aftermarket radio and an expensive ripped soft top.
The glove positioning would've been an excellent space for Cup Holders, it's a shame mot enough people complained enough for the change to be implemented during the NA/NB's life.
Quick question... does your airbag light light up wenn you turn the ignition on? Mine does not and i am afraid it might not be considered roadworthy for it's next test here in Germany.
Question!!! .. i have a soft spot for Miatas. and Del Sol's. considering a Miata More so Because of Fully Convertible. I'm in Florida... however om 5'11. will I fit? lol. will my head stick up??... never sat in a miata. drove a BMW Z4. and fit great. but that's a totally different car.
I'm 5''11 too and I fit just fine! There's also "tall people mods" you can do that might help but I don't need to do anything to be comfortable. I live in Florida too and I love my miata!
+Christian Ninsananda There are 2 manual knobs under hood in case headlight motor fails, it would work fine for changing bulbs, besides, you rarely have to change the lights anyways as they are sealed beam and are meant to last a long time because if the light fails it's not just a bulb it's the whole unit that has to be replaced. My mom's Honda you have to remove the whole front bumper to change out the bulbs, now that's a shitty design!
Just bought a gleneagles one and gotta say, seeing the black interior, I think I might actually prefer it to the creamy leather and walnut patterned centre console :/
Good video! Totally true on the visors and the arm rests! I had to delete them, lol. Air vents are easy to replace with 3g eclipse vents like I did. Worst part of the interior is the STUPID cup holder! I lost 6 cups of coffee before designing my own console. The loss of cups is why the used velcro. ;) Still not finished, but at least I won't lose any more coffees during shifts and or corners. And it won't cost $300 to replace the console since I am all DIY. Any big plans for an upgrade path?
I'm 5'10, and I must just sit low in my seat (also because I think I have longer legs and a shorter torso than normal) since my visors can barely block the sun for me most of the time x)
Sam Arnold It's amazing! It's true that it's not powerful, but for someone like me who has a heavy foot, it probably keeps me safer that way. It does pull pretty well though in the higher RPMs. You just have to be brave enough to not let it drop below 3500-4000.
Sam Arnold Thinkin' of getting one too. Same deal with the heavy foot: my '98 Mitsubishi Colt tops out at 109mph, and honestly, I find myself travelling at that speed most every day... do NOT want to buy a fast car, just one that moves. And damn, do those Miatas know how to move...
Dude, for the love of god please tell me where you bought your boots/chukkas? I've been dying, DYING to get myself a pair for the past year and a half.
the latch is there because you sit on the wrong side of the car... it would be easyer if you drove on the other side of the car... you know... like you would be in the place it was made? its an import its not gonna be perfect. also not as bad as the germans? they make VERY well made cars, not alot of people need a cup holder to have a good time in a car
The headlight switch isn't useless. They put it there so you can clean or replace your lights so you don't have to turn the lights on. Also just fun to play with :)
Or when you see another miata you can wave at em :D
LauriraDog omg yes :]
or run halos along your parking lights when you want to drive without head lights on.
Or for winter so they don’t get frozen
And down force🤣
Protip: the miata is so low and small that it doesnt matter what side of the gas pump you park, the hose will just flip over.
Really?
@Aldovino i own a 94 M too:) 237k miles!
that's a good tip
Another reason for that headlight up button is for use during the winter. I leave my headlights popped up during icy days to keep them from freezing shut - as in "I can't use my headlights at night when the car is iced over".
the headlight switch in the center is to pop up the headlights during the cold days so if water freezes and the lights are up no damage to the system
+Michael Miller Also the main car key to start the car also locks the center console
This as the gears for the headlights are plastic and break easily if any stress is put on them. The button is to leave the lights up but off in the colder months.
The switch to pop the headlights up is used if you're expecting ice or snow. The manual says the headlight up/down motor may not be strong enough to open the lights or may strain to the point a fuse is blown if the hood and lights are iced over or have a certain amount of snow covering them.
in my old NA the key for the middle storage was my engine key
leonardo montoya interesting
It’s like this in my 95 Benz as well. I assume it’s the same in this car too lol. Just convenient
8:29 Maybe the center console cubby is like that because the miata is originally a right hand drive car, and they decided to leave it as it was for the LHD cars too, to save a penny :)
Drinks are supposed to get wedged between the seat, the back, and the arm rest. In the place you said the tissues go.
Got an nb a couple days ago, thanks for the video fun watch 8 years later
Giving your roof a few months, before it starts tearing like hell, if you keep opening it like that. Be gentle with that stuff, that material is bound to be ruined easily.
WarLock0722 hi. theres any safe way to open the top?? i'm about to get a miata :)
@@johnwillyn you just open it softly while helping the rear window fold with your hand
Found myself watching the whole video even though it the same exact as mine. Lol great vid man
my dream car
Mine too! :)
Pro tip: the gas filler cap is usually on the same side, as it is placed on the instrument cluster.
diggerkropkapl nope not on my car
not in my car
Just to say, the middle compartment latch is on that side because it uses the same center console as the right hand drive mx5s, which is what the car was designed on (Japan is right hand drive) so from the drivers position, its easier to reach over and unlatch the compartment from that side. The air conditioning mechanical valve change sound, you said you never see that today. My Mazda 2 does it haha. It's pretty new 2013. Your Miata looks really clean. Keep making these videos!
This is the best video for someone young that thinks buying a miata. (which is me)
The cupholders are OEM, but don't come with the car. The velcro was added by the previous owner, lol. When i bought mine, there was an ash tray there. I opted to buy the cupholder, as even if it creates an uncomfortable shift position, it's better than nothing.
Lmao ☺️
I heard that having the headlights up in the daytime helps with keeping the engine bay cooler. I suppose that's why they have that switch.
Nah, it's for cleaning and replacing the lights.
Mechanical ac buttons are easier for me to adjust without having to look down.
Touch screen is a bit harder since my fingers don't get that feedback to know what I'm adjusting.
The Velcro par is not stock but the cup holders came stock in some cars
I know no one cares but I'm getting one of these as my first car today BABY so hyped.
Omg im hopefully getting one for my first congrats 🥳
Just a quick tip - Try using the ignition key in the centre console... It should be the same one ;)
I love your videos man! I love Miata's (MX5 where i live) and im actually purchasing my second one in a few days! I cant wait to get back into one, its been far too long haha. Keep up the videos man!
Those cupholders are not stock, the latch is on that side because a JDM mx-5 is right hand drive
The gas indicator does show which side it's on (in a way); on most cars whichever side "e" is on, that is the side the gas cap will be located.
+Nicholas Jozwik That's not true in any of the cars I have owned or driven, my dad's current car I drive sometimes has the image the same as my car, but his filler is on the opposite side of mine.
+Harrison Davis Intresting, I thought that almost every car the was that way
+Nicholas Jozwik the e means empty and it's always on the left side lol
Got to love the keep fit windows.
I think your ignition key locks the console, also you can get a roll bar that goes all the way down in the middle that gives you some protection
The gas tank side indicator is based on which side the pump handle is on, so the handle is on the right in your car so you'd obviously have to pull in so the gas pump is on your left
+EscapeTheFate22 That's not true, my dads car I drive sometimes has the image the same as my car, but his filler is on the right not the left.
Want to get one as a first car but I need something with 4 seats. Fuck.
You don't neeeeed 4 seats man.
+Evan8D I dooooooooooooo
+Tuddec Get an E30
Miata NA is the bestest car ever made. The only upgrade I do in all mine is to put headrest speakers in.
Bestest hahahaa
yes that cup holder is factory the reason why there's velcrow is the clips that keep it in place are flimsy. Also your regular ignition key works on the center concle and glove box locks.
The center part with the latch all the way at the back is actually for when it locks. Mine opens from the front but when you lock it, it locks at the back
most generally the side of the gauge cluster that the fuel gauge is on is also the side that the filler is on
The key for ignition can be used to lock the center console(and glove box). The locking clip is plastic so if someone really wanted to get into it he or she could easily break it open.
Dan Roberts this comment actually helped a lot! Thanks!
Mechonomist First thing I thought of when you said there was no key :-)
This is true

+Dan Roberts was just about to post this. i'm learning locksmithing as a trade, the car key is for a wafer lock, on the doors and the ignition, the wafer locks on the glovebox and center console are short, so that only the cuts on the end of the car key are needed.

these short keys wont be able to open your car doors or start your car,as the "masterkey" is your car key
great video, love all the detailed interior shots!
Great vid, cheers! Did you know you can remove the steering wheel centre cushion to make it a nicer looking wheel?
The console lid and glove compartment door locks/unlocks with your engine keys. I have a ´97 model.
The cup holder should have a tab on both sides. I have that same one. It looks like your squeeze tabs broke off, so there is velcro instead.
ooh, so thats what it looks like... i have a NA miata but iv never seen its interior...
What is the year of the miata he has
Justin Balzer 1996
Magnus Kramer it's actually a 1997

The cup holders are not stock, they are after market. Some else probably said that already, but there it.
where i live its not common to see a miata but whenever i do its always some old person with the roof down
which is perhaps in order that the steering is normal on the other side and, therefore, goes the box open like that . sorry voor my bad English
Thanks,i wanted to know the inside of one as i really like the miatas but never seen the interior before
2:09 it's pretty
The switch is to show off😁
The velcro cup holders used to be sun glasses holder
use the main key to lock the center console and glove box
I've found that the car is so tiny you can park on either side of the gas pump and just pull the hose over haha. Roman J I literally do and think the same way with my mx5
They key to lock the console is your actual car key. At least in mine it is. I don't require another type of key.

American education in action?
i will see this interior daily pretty soon
youve probably realised by now, but if you pull the roof levers all he way you dont need to pull on the mechanism, it will pull out itself
ik this is old af but no the cupholder isnt normally like that, they must have broken the clips on it it usually snaps in
What year model is this? It just from from 1990.
My question is, I can connect my phone to listen music in the miata?
Get the fold in the middle sun screens.
12:23 made me laugh sm haha thats very inconvenient isn't it 😂
The cup holder on my 90 na clips in, the velcro looks like it works way better and would rattle less though!
If the nozzle is on the right side that means your filler is on the left and vice versa
The glove positioning would've been an excellent space for Cup Holders, it's a shame mot enough people complained enough for the change to be implemented during the NA/NB's life.
I really want to get one these cars one day
I want a mx5 but here en PR is practically imposible to find one in good conditions
Quick question... does your airbag light light up wenn you turn the ignition on? Mine does not and i am afraid it might not be considered roadworthy for it's next test here in Germany.
Car Karl Not 100% sure, but I feel like I've seen that happen on other Miatas.
yeah the airbag system appears to be fragile...
Car Karl When you turn the key but not turn the car on it should be on. But once you turn on the car is should go off.
alright, thanks
Car Karl when is inspection?
Question!!! .. i have a soft spot for Miatas. and Del Sol's. considering a Miata More so Because of Fully Convertible.

You'll be fine.
The problem is mainly w/6ft+ people but there's mods like Foamoctomy that would make it better for people who aren't complete giants.
Without the headlight up button... how would you change the bulbs?
+Christian Ninsananda There are 2 manual knobs under hood in case headlight motor fails, it would work fine for changing bulbs, besides, you rarely have to change the lights anyways as they are sealed beam and are meant to last a long time because if the light fails it's not just a bulb it's the whole unit that has to be replaced. rly nice looking interior :)
PLEASE LINK THE AMAZON POST FOR THAT DETECTOR

The oil gauge is for pressure not temp
MrSpedhead this is an NA8 actually so it is an oil temp not oil pressure
if it was a pressure, it would have the units. This says C and H

Is that a pro diver invicta? I have one and love it
+Frankie Rizzo It is! good spot.
+Frankie Rizzo I also have one I have the 3 series kit.
It's called a bonnet release mate.
How are you enjoying the Miata? Thinking about picking one up.. Lack of power to noticeable? Your thoughts on it? Thanks
Sam Arnold It's amazing! It's true that it's not powerful, but for someone like me who has a heavy foot, it probably keeps me safer that way. It does pull pretty well though in the higher RPMs. You just have to be brave enough to not let it drop below 3500-4000.
So I did get one. 1997 na Miata 1.8 w/lsd. Love it. 137000 miles and runs like its new. Drives really well especially in the corners. Cheers!
