- I said the incorrect cartridge numbers on the video but they are DEFINITELY CLI-551 and PGI-550 (in the USA they are sold as CLI-251 and PGI-250).

Hi. I love this video! you are saving me a lot of money and saving the planet by reusing ink cartridges. P.S If you are short on time... How he gets the ink in the cartridge is using a hypodermic needle. He shows you at 2:45 in the video...
Yes i did the same thing but i think mine need priming because my printer now prints blank pages
but i don't know how to prime these cartridges as where i live such tool are not available
Very useful, many thanks!!! Seeing where to put the needle is key. I'm very grateful for your video! So nice of you.
Luckily I have a scale! The black newish cartridge I have (same size as color, all CLI-251 type) weighed 23.54 grams and it had a little bit of use. I managed to fill it to 25.50 grams with a little extra ink.
The other slim color cartridges, all CLI-251 type were around 14 - 17 grams. I could only fill them to 20.50 grams before they started overflowing from the valve below. When I stopped, the overflow stopped. I could not get past 20.5 grams on any of the color ones. So this means, the inside holding capacity of the slim Black color is slightly more. Huh.
My refills only came in Black, Magenta, Cyan, Yellow. What color to fill the Grey, and PGI-250XL Black cartridges with? I guess the Black is the same ink? But what about the Grey? Anyone know?
If you know the current weight of the cartridge, and the target weight once it's filled, would it not be easier to use a graduated syringe in order to inject exactly the required amount of ink?
Sure, I don't even measure the weight anymore, it's just a matter of inserting the needle and squeezing ink into the cartridge until I see some come out of the outlet hole, then I pull the syringe back a little to suck the excess off and it's good to go.
Yes it would. However, a scale works too. Either way. If the cartridge is half full, the scale works better.
If it is helpful, most of mine were filled with 5ml marked on the syringe. The small Black CL-251 took 5 grams more ink than all the others.
@@mjremy2605 Thank you, that's helpful.

Great video, can one do the method to refill PGI-450 and CLI-451 cartridges?
No. These are different and there are videos on it. There is a plug under the top label, remove that. Fill from there. But you should keep the orange housing they came in to prevent leakage when refilling these.
