  • In this video Kirsty Meakin will show you how to apply acrylic to short bitten nails.
    Kirsty will show you a step by step guide of how to prepare a short nail for acrylic application. She pushes the cuticle back before cleaning and then applies dehydrator and primer. She uses a form to create the nails and adjusts it for short nails.
    She applies acrylic in the usual way, taking care to give a solid form on the bitten nail.
    This channel combines the industry-experienced Kirsty Meakin with the fantastic range of products from Naio Nails, which are available worldwide.

    I've been in the beauty business for 43 yrs, and with shampooing and perming, coloring hair the chemicals are hard on nails and the nail polish. So I've decided to try the gel nails and I love them!! When you are working with the public, people should keep their comments to themselves. I've seen a lot of things in all these years but never said anything to my clients. Find a tech that talk about other things instead of how bad your nails look.

    Kirsty any advice for people who bite their nails and how to stop .

    • @mandas677
      @mandas677 8 лет назад +8

      Glitter Girl I know one common bit of advice is to get acrylic nails, but start out pretty short so it's not shocking. The acrylic is much thicker than a natural nail and harder to bite.

    • @DaniEla-zz5nj
      @DaniEla-zz5nj 8 лет назад +4

      Glitter Girl get a good nail designer that's willing to do a nailbiter therapy, start with short nail extentions, go every 2 weeks for a check up and fill & avoid situations that make you start to bite/pick your nails. Done that with my sister & it helped her grow decent long nails with a clear acrylic overlay 😊

    • @PurpleSwils
      @PurpleSwils 8 лет назад +6

      Glitter Girl for me it was braces (lol) I got them and my teeth hurt too much to bite my nails anymore, but that'd be kind of an expensive way I suppose...

    • @sandrafrank6537
      @sandrafrank6537 7 лет назад +6

      Glitter Girl just add nail polish remover to your nails everyday after a while you will lose desire to bite on your nail. the taste of the remover will keep you off them.

      mandas677 my advice, look at all the natural long an Beautyfull nails on the internet an then look at your own nails and you feel really disgusted at you own nails. This helped me to stop in one day. Also wear ALWAYS nail polish, because with I felt better about my nails with somethin beautyful on them, and i wouldn't bite them. I can say acrylic nails didnt help me at all and also made my nails look ugly after i wanted them to grow naturally

      Absolutely! You just really need the apex in the right place as gel is softer than acrylic, so it's not as strong. The apex being in the back two thirds of the nail and a nice gentle slope from the center of the nail provides support.

    I have very short nails and I do my own acrylics even if they don't stay on I'm still working on it. I've been to about 5 nails places and none of my acrylic sets have stayed on for longer than 4 days, I dropped a nail polish bottle once and the ladies were so rude to me and I got some glass in my hand I came out of the bathroom from washing my hands after and the lady was practically yelling at me so I paid and left. So rude and it just keeps me away from going to salons and I just try to do them myself. Even if my sets don't stay on to long I do it for fun and to try new things.

    Hi, Kirsty! as I was watching your videos last night I was practicing my acrylic application. Since I don't have the squeezy thingy I tried using the nail form backing paper. Worked great! I wrapped the glossy side around my finger tip and pulled it tight. This gave me a natural looking C curve. It also smoothed out the acrylic which saved me filing. Love the videos, thanks for posting! Cheers from NY

    thankyou Kirsty, would love to see you do it on a person whose fingertip swells even higher than the end of her nail, that is what I am usually faced with and your cousins fingers don't look swollen in front of the nail

    Can you make a video on how to apply acrylic on weirdly shaped, wonky shaped nails? I have one finger where the nail slopes downward at a weird angle, making the nail grow downward on one side when it grows past the tip of my finger.

    Hi I absolutely love watching you Kirsty you are such an inspiration! You help me so much with new ideas. What I was wanting to ask is that I'm getting married on NYE this year and was wondering if it would be possible for Kirsty to do me some fun wedding nails nearer the date. Thank you xxx

    You know, we constantly hear the advice about "never cut cuticles, just push them back" but believe me, they are talking about normal nails, NOT severely bitten nails. I know because I was a bad biter from age 3 to age 25-26. Biters' cuticles can be *very* dry, thick, jagged and overgrown, and if you were to just push them back, you would end up with a giant, thick, ragged and unsightly ring of dead yellow skin around the base of the nail, and it would just sprout hangnails. This is dead, useless skin and it is very safe to nip it away. It is essentially a callus because it is made of the same stuff as calluses: keratinized skin.
    Just don't cut into the live skin of the eponychium. You have to be very careful. Never go so deep that you make raw red skin or draw blood, like that notorious Russian nail tech dude who shall remain unnamed.
    I don't believe in cuticle remover liquid because the way it works is by dissolving keratin, which is also what your nails are made of. People who use cuticle remover are also partially dissolving their nails, which creates thinner, weaker nails that break and peel more easily.

    I had my nails done last year & they popped off in a week, thus tearing off layers of my natural nail. Obviously this supposed nail tech, who was the owner, didn't know what she was doing. Since then I go from short broken nails to about 1" of growth. Unfortunately my natural nails are brittle & have slight waves to them. The nail tech told me that's why the nails didn't stay on for me.
