You talking about everyone being completely zoned in to the knife fight - that’s what it’s all about. Brilliant cinema experience!

I watched it two days ago in IMAX and I have to say this may have been the most overwhelming audiovisual experience I've had in a movie theatre since I saw Rogue One in that same IMAX theatre in Amsterdam almost a decade ago. Really impressive sound, music and just spectacular visuals a la Lawrence of Arabia and also crazy black and white which I particularly adored. In terms of storytelling and pacing I have some of the same issues you had like the first 45 minutes or so which lacked various locations and plot lines for me. And super weird, but the exact same thing that bugged you at the beginning happened at my screening with some obnoxious blokes sitting a couple of seats next from us chuckling at the opening line of "Spice" but to their credit and the entire audience it was dead silent for the next 165 minutes. So yeah, awesome experience and I'm really glad I saw it at the biggest possible screen in my neck of the woods. Thanks for the review and experience, Luke!

I saw this at the BFI IMAX last Saturday on 70mm. I was a bit cautious beforehand as I heard reports from people saying that the projector broke and they had to use a digital version but thankfully that wasn’t the case.

It was possibly out of focus because the bulb in the digital projector was dimmer than it should have been. I have seen the film on Imax, 70mm Imax and on a regular screen. I lasted about ten minutes in the regular screen before I walked out because I was so angry at how dim the projection was. Imax is the only way to go with this film.

It's without doubt one of my favourite cinema experiences in recent memory, up there with how I felt after Dune Part 1, Fury Road, Blade Runner 2049 and The Raid. It just felt like such a culmination of all the setup of Part 1.

  • @FlorescentBrainwave

I did really did love Dune part 2 and the grandiose nature of it but there's something special about part 1. Part 1 just feels better structurally and all the characters have a purpose, whereas part 2 felt a bit messy with characters just sorting of being there.

First time seeing your videos and I can relate to feeling overwhelmed by seeing this movie on IMAX, seen it 7 times now on that format. Denis and his team killed it with sound/visuals. Hoping the blu ray will have the full screen ratio but considering it didn’t have any scenes on the physical release for part one I remain doubtful.

I disagree with you regarding Zendaya. She could’ve used a little more subtlety. You knew exactly what she was feeling. Good acting to me is implying rather than underlining emotions. I enjoyed her lighter moments more. In the more serious moments, she was either frowning, sighing heavily or flaring her nostrils, sometimes all in the same scene.

I liked it but I think I prefer part one.
