Dune is heavil base on islam like the term Jihad so you my else well read the Quran. It has capture many western hearts to infleuence of Islam and how many will flock to it.
In as much as many details in the written book would be impossible to completely interpret in film, that scene with Paul on his first solo worm ride is one thing that was done better in this film format.

It's funny hearing people hated the lack of action in Part 1, because personally I have the opposite issue. I felt Part 1 was very lacking when it came to dialogue scenes and politics, for example the scenes with the Baron being super short and very sparse. Or the Bene Gesserit scenes on Caladan being super super brief ... when I was craving more dialogue from the Reverend Mother to Paul for example. Maybe I'm nitpicking, because I still liked Part 1, but this is where Part 1 faltered for me personally and took me out of the movie. I'm curious if Part 2 is similar in its approach to dialogue and politics compared to Part 1, or if it handles it worse / better? Love your review, thanks!
Great review. Totally agree that changes needed to be made to fulfil the needs of an adaptation brought to the screen to enable general audience appeal and provide necessary funds to make it all possible (at the end of the day). DV is a true fan of Frank Herbert’s material and we are so lucky to have him as the film version creator of this Duniverse. 🤓😍
as a fan of the book, this review confirms that the movie accurately adapted the story! the pacing of lots of lore first -> lots of action, is how the book was meant to be. can't wait to see it
WOW! I have seen about 20 reviews of this movie, Dune 2. Each reviewer (including you) has, surprisingly, blown me away. I have stopped caring about movies because of the trash Hollywood industry; but I am surprised at the phenomena of this movie: the making of it and its director. I actually might go to the movie theatre to watch it! Thanks for such a great, thoughtful review!
I just saw the early Dune 2 screening and was blown away. I think the departures from the novel by Villeneuve worked really well for the screen. The exception would be the relationship between Paul and Chani at the end of D2 because in the novel Paul did the right thing and Chani understood with the support of Jessica. I don't want to get into spoiler territory just yet.
Last night I was actually start hoping for a new video from you. Today I woke up to this one. And since I will see Dune Part Two in IMAX in a week today, I couldn't have wished for a better video.

I like how even the reviewers aren't saying anything about Alia, not even the slightest. Thay could be a good or a bad thing, guess we'll see when it comes out, but I like how they're staying as quiet as the people who worked on it
I just got of seeing a special IMAX screening of this a few hours ago, and I must say, as a lover of films and filmmaking as well as a HUGE fan of Frank Herbert's original DUNE novel, this film absolutely blew me away in every way imaginable. Yes the film does differ from the book in a few ways, but ultimately it remains true to the essence of the story, and does it extremely well. This is one of the easiest A+'s I have ever given to a film.
I don't really understand when people say they prefer one of the two Villeneuve Dune films over the other... They really are two parts of one story and really can't be assessed independently. In this regard, I particularly like the Frank Herbert quote about the hero/anti-hero being determined by where you stop telling the story. I don't think I (or anyone, really) will be able to properly assess ANY film in this series until we get through to the end of at least the story arc of Paul Atreides. If you stop the story after Part II, you'll get just as much the wrong impression as if you stop at the end of "Messiah". Such redemption as does come to Paul (in this modern Greek tragedy) only really comes in "Children of Dune", with a particular father-and-son scene on a sand dune...

Great continiation of the first part. I missed Feyd in previous movie, but damn, it was a wise desision to reserve him for the second chapter. After reading about casting of certain character I was wondering - how and why, but now it make sence. Howewer, I don't know what to expect from Messiah (the scope is so different). PS I love action in movies and glad Denis can deliver on this front. It's really freaking good.
Thank you for this great video. Among so many great things about Dune 2, one thing I loved is that it has a post-credit scene right before the third act. I think that ending was very much a reflective moment for Scorsese. He's been kind of the true crime film king and the radio show is one of those true crime pieces of media meant for entertainment, but all the people in true crime entertainment media were real people with real dreams and feelings and people who loved them. He was trying to immerse us, this time around, in the humanness of this awful time and then show how we often learn about these events and the gap that exists between all of that. For your own self I'd suggest Hugo and Age of Innocence for your off the beaten path Scorsese films.

Felt the first one was good, but think as a story going experience it would have benefitted from being presented as one movie with an intermission. Really like your point about balance between world building and action, something lacking many movie going experiences the last 5 years or so. Excellent review! I absolutely agree with you that it was necessary to take out some of the weirdness of the book. I wouldn't have been able to stomach everything on the big screen, so I might even prefer this adaptation.
I saw an interview with Denis V yesterday. He said he's working on the script for Messiah so we can hope we'll have a part 3 in about 2 years? I think it's necessary for the story without having seen Dune 2 yet.
I enjoyed your review as a fan. I've been waiting for a Dune movie since there were rumblings about a Peter Berg adaptation. Been a fan of the novel for a lot longer. I like your point you've made on deviation from the novel. I expect changes. It's unfilmable for a lot of reasons and changes are needed to keep the story.

What an amazing experience and probably, as you, I lean a little more on part one but I want to rewatch it cinema as soon as possible. Also my local IMAX is a laser 1.90 aspect ratio which is visually BREATHTAKING but as far as sound sometime it becomes a little messy with all the sound effects and Zimmer score. There are not Dolby cinemas in Italy but I want to rewatch in Dolby Atmos plus laser. But in general what a great and complex movie! I have read dune years ago, now I want to reread and then go to Messiah, especially after that final! I am still so hyped ahaha
I recently rewatched ‘Dune’ and I’ll probably watch it again the day before I see part two on IMAX. I like your review on letterboxd on the first film. One quick question: I’m reading some reviews on ‘Dune Part 2’ that are saying there’s so much information crammed in that it was hard to keep up. Did you find that to be true? I love that Christopher Nolan called Dune Part Two the Empire Strikes Back of the series. I am so so excited to see it in IMAX next week. Also, I'm curious about your necklace. Is it a representation of a Heptapod?
I mostly agree. However I feel like especially the third act is compressed too much. The sister, the guild, Pauls strategical and plotting genius / him being a mentat... Those are things that could have been explored very well if the movie had been half an hour longer or better yet split up into a third part. That way the action would have been less prominent, which is the main point where I would disagree with your review by the way, almost all of the action is absolutely necessary to make Dune as epic as it is supposed to be, it's just that there could have been more story inbetween.
It's a nicely balanced perspective you have about both films and thank you for sharing it. As a big fan of Part One, it disappoints me sometimes to hear that it was polarizing as well as popular, although I expected it as a reader and old fan. It's in the basic ideas of it which don't pander to audiences as much as they're used to in sci fi or fantasy stories. The Parts really are one big story, and I can't wait to take in Part Two - it's going to be much more successful in some ways than One, I think we can at least be confident of that. And MESSIAH should be amazing too, but that one is going to positively hurt some audiences...which I look forward to, actually.
The tone of the film is entirely different from what we experienced in the previous one. Despite being directed by the same person and continuing the previous one. I comprehend why people are finding this more enjoyable. It feels more like a Hollywood blockbuster film. There is more action, but it lacks the dark, gritty, and grounded feeling of the first film. The lack of character development and motivations for why the characters are acting and thinking the way they are is also present. Even though it is longer than the previous one, I feel like the big climax was rushed. There were moments when I was wondering how that person got there in the first place. Also, the villains were less frightening than they were before. Yes, we got Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha, the Baron's nephew. Despite appearing and acting like a reptilian most of the time, he remains a typical blockbuster villain. He was only there to battle our hero, and that's all. Hans Zimmer score is not even memorable. You barely notice the score. It seems to me that the studio had some creative control over the sequel, as it felt like it was directed by someone else, not Denis Villenueve. From interviews, I observed that Denis repeatedly stated his intention to provide the audience with what they desired, and it was evident. Denis is a director I adore and his signature is evident throughout his films. Unfortunately, I couldn't witness it in Dune 2. I still have a preference for the first one. The action wasn't the primary aspect of the book, so it wasn't required here. I was hoping to experience moments like when the Baron approached and killed Dr. Yueh in Dune: Part One. Despite its simplicity, the scene was still chilling and unsettling. I felt my skin crawling. Same thing happens when Paul meets Reverend Mother Gaius for the first time. Despite not having any action sequences, there were many scenes that stuck with me after seeing the first movie at the theater. It would have been great to see more moments like this in the sequel. Will give it a second watch this coming weekend, but I was extremely disappointed.
Oh man!! Can't wait for it🔥🔥🔥 Some are comparing it with The Empires Strikes Back, some with LOTR, some with The Dark Knight!!! This could be the mivie of this generation that will cement Villeneuve's legacy as the director of this era & will pit him on same pedestal as that of Nolan!!🙌🙌🙌
I'm just glad people are catching on to him being an amazing director, and I hope they go back to check out his earlier films. I've been a fan of his work for a decade now and the guy does not miss!
I also lean more to the first film, also because I feel there is to much war on this one. Great movie nevertheless. Still The Arrival and Sicario are my favourite Villeneuve films.

What's Dennis Villeneuve gonna do wirh Dune Messiah cuz Lady Jessica and Gurney Hallack both dont appear until Children of Dune and also there has to be a massive time jump at least 18 years in between dune and dune messiah for alia to be the right age for Anna Taylor Joy to play Alia and Paul be in his mid 30's its the only way. I feel like Dennis Villeneuve is gonna use plot points from children of dune to finish this story cuz otherwise how else include Lady Jessica and Gurney Hallack so ur gonna have to do children of dune which i know he wont do even though i think he should end there it's as final as dune ever gets

Without a shadow of a doubt, Dune1 and Dune will be regarded as classical works of pure art for centuries to come. Having said that, we should bear a truly horrible, heartbreaking thing in mind. When Dune1 was produced, it was made as a 4 by 2 meter painting of pure beauty and slendor, and it showed landscapes and a sky and people and marvelous wonders. It was huge and beautiful and all art. It was truly amazing. But what did Denis do? Denis went to the shed, took a rusty saw and started cutting. Denis was scared. The studios were scared. Everyone was scared. They were scared of fossil fuel industries, of MAGA, of cancellation, of covidiots, of big banks and political correctness and racism. So Denis started cutting with his rusty saw and reduced this beautiful otherworldly piece of art down to 2 hours and 17 minutes. They were scared big stupid star wars and disney and Mavel and dumbed down murican audiences wouldn't get it. And they were right. The dimwitted clucless crowds out there found Dune1 'slow' and 'it was artsy fartsy' and "why were there so many brown people in it', it "reeked of terrorism" and it was 'leftist" and "woke". So what we were left with was a painting like the mona lisa, barely biggerr than a coaster, and a movie lasting 2 hours and 17 minutes. Denis made a beautiful movie, BUT Jason Moma has said out loud (and was promptly disciplined by the studios nd Denis) he has SEEN, with his own eyes, a finished version of 12 hours. This is commonly referred to as the "Directors" or "Assembly" cut. This version was finished. It showed scenes that were much much wder. Landscapes with floating Sardaukar battleships midair. Yet Denis opted to focus in the scenery and make it more direct, simpler, less politically confusing, more dumbed down. So we go a focus shot of a Sardaukar priest chanting - which was in itself amazing - whereas in the original shot you could see about 12 times wider, with soldiers standing at attention for miles and miles, and buildings and battleships, and stormy weather all around and thousands upon thousands of human sacrifices and rivers of blood. But the studios didnt want that. They were scared Covid would last for te years, and trump would be in a second term and the US would be governed by the KKK. So 12 hours was mercilessly hacksawed down to 2 hours and 17 minutes and all tha cut content was put under strict embargo and stored in a vault and NOBODY was allowed to see any of it. And even now Denis hs doubled down under the motto "I needed to murder my babies" and he insist not a soul ever will get to see the original version, because it showed things that would be unpalatable and "intellectually too difficult" or "confusing" for current 2020 audiences. It was a true nightmare, this process and the studio politics involved. They wanted to make tw versions - one a full 3 hours and 45 minutes, but they quietly canned that plan and deleted all references to it - until Jason blabbered his mouth and let out the secret of the 12 hour version. Ther is an all but finished 12 hour version. There is a finished and much wider almost 4 hour version. But it all got canned and embargoed and now it's a studio secret that would cost people who talked about it bonuses or get them sued. I say - let's pressure Denis to finish this 12 hour version. Let's reverse his butchery to its original vision. I want to see that full 12 hour version. I say, let's terrorise the studios to stop this injustice and chase them back into the editing booths, and MAKE them put this 12 hour version in theaters. I would pay 200 euro to see it. I would easily dish out the same for a likewise 12 hour Dune2 version. The Banquet. Guernay playing the Baliset. Duncan living among the Fremen. Different scenes of spice harvesters. Different scenes of Harkonnn Saboteurs. Much much longer scenes of all cut content. Substantially less focused scenes but much much wider panoramic shots. Lengthy scenes of Bene Gessit, Giedci Prime, the deserts ofd Dune. Duncan bantering among the Atreides soldiers. Breathtaking scenes of the beauty of Caladan. The palace of the Atreides on Caladan. The voyage up from Caladan, flying INTO the Guild Highliner and flying OUT of the Guild Highliner. Water discipline on Arrakis. Scenes of the city of Arrakeen. Duncan dropping down on Dune from low orbit. More scenes of Atreides ships. More scenes of Harkonnens slaughtering Atreides soldiers. Harkonnen ships bombing Arrakeen. Spice refinery factories. Inside shots of the Atreides vessels. It was all filmed and we are supposed to know nothing of this. They will lie to our faces now, and deny it existence, but we know it exists. I want it. I want the Painting restored to its original magnificience. I do not want to live in a world without Coke. We deserve it, give it back to us. And in the name of Shai Hulud - do not do the same sacrilege to Dune2.

Unpopular opinion for sure . In order to fully appreciate I guess you really need to be into the story and dune universe. Seeing all of that come to life in such a masterful way, was quite an experience. I’m sure none of us is a movie director to fully appreciate the level of mastery required to produce that level of quality
If fully wraps up the story started in the first film, but there is hook that can go further, same as the book. There's no cliffhanger, but you will want more.
I agree with the alsmost too much action comment. I like part one better, but both are great. I felt that the white savior criticism wasn't very clear in the movie, though.

Dune Part 2 is the only film I've looked forward to seeing since Part 1.

Ending of the book is different than the movie which Alia involves in it

I just got of seeing a special IMAX screening of this a few hours ago, and I must say, as a lover of films and filmmaking as well as a HUGE fan of Frank Herbert's original DUNE novel, this film absolutely blew me away in every way imaginable. Yes the film does differ from the book in a few ways, but ultimately it remains true to the essence of the story, and does it extremely well. This is one of the easiest A+'s I have ever given to a film.
I don't really understand when people say they prefer one of the two Villeneuve Dune films over the other... They really are two parts of one story and really can't be assessed independently.
In this regard, I particularly like the Frank Herbert quote about the hero/anti-hero being determined by where you stop telling the story. I don't think I (or anyone, really) will be able to properly assess ANY film in this series until we get through to the end of at least the story arc of Paul Atreides.
If you stop the story after Part II, you'll get just as much the wrong impression as if you stop at the end of "Messiah". Such redemption as does come to Paul (in this modern Greek tragedy) only really comes in "Children of Dune", with a particular father-and-son scene on a sand dune...
I do wonder if when he talks about wanting to make a trilogy he actually means making Messiah and Children of Dune into one movie.

Great continiation of the first part. I missed Feyd in previous movie, but damn, it was a wise desision to reserve him for the second chapter. After reading about casting of certain character I was wondering - how and why, but now it make sence. Howewer, I don't know what to expect from Messiah (the scope is so different). PS I love action in movies and glad Denis can deliver on this front. It's really freaking good.

I think that ending was very much a reflective moment for Scorsese. He's been kind of the true crime film king and the radio show is one of those true crime pieces of media meant for entertainment, but all the people in true crime entertainment media were real people with real dreams and feelings and people who loved them. He was trying to immerse us, this time around, in the humanness of this awful time and then show how we often learn about these events and the gap that exists between all of that.
For your own self I'd suggest Hugo and Age of Innocence for your off the beaten path Scorsese films.
Will rewatch the first one before I go for the 2nd. Can't wait and Denis Villanueve is my favorite director too! Fantastic review 😊

Felt the first one was good, but think as a story going experience it would have benefitted from being presented as one movie with an intermission. Really like your point about balance between world building and action, something lacking many movie going experiences the last 5 years or so. Keep up the awesome work, you fabulously articulate lady!
But then even more would have to be cut out, and modern movies don’t really do intermissions anymore.
Excellent review! I absolutely agree with you that it was necessary to take out some of the weirdness of the book. I wouldn't have been able to stomach everything on the big screen, so I might even prefer this adaptation.

I saw an interview with Denis V yesterday. He said he's working on the script for Messiah so we can hope we'll have a part 3 in about 2 years? I think it's necessary for the story without having seen Dune 2 yet.
I enjoyed your review as a fan. I've been waiting for a Dune movie since there were rumblings about a Peter Berg adaptation. Been a fan of the novel for a lot longer. I like your point you've made on deviation from the novel. I expect changes. It's unfilmable for a lot of reasons and changes are needed to keep the story.

What an amazing experience and probably, as you, I lean a little more on part one but I want to rewatch it cinema as soon as possible. Also my local IMAX is a laser 1.90 aspect ratio which is visually BREATHTAKING but as far as sound sometime it becomes a little messy with all the sound effects and Zimmer score. There are not Dolby cinemas in Italy but I want to rewatch in Dolby Atmos plus laser. But in general what a great and complex movie! I have read dune years ago, now I want to reread and then go to Messiah, especially after that final! I am still so hyped ahaha

I mostly agree.
However I feel like especially the third act is compressed too much. The sister, the guild, Pauls strategical and plotting genius / him being a mentat... Those are things that could have been explored very well if the movie had been half an hour longer or better yet split up into a third part. That way the action would have been less prominent, which is the main point where I would disagree with your review by the way, almost all of the action is absolutely necessary to make Dune as epic as it is supposed to be, it's just that there could have been more story inbetween.

I can finally comment as I just saw it. This is probably my favourite movie I have seen in the theatre
It's a nicely balanced perspective you have about both films and thank you for sharing it. As a big fan of Part One, it disappoints me sometimes to hear that it was polarizing as well as popular, although I expected it as a reader and old fan. It's in the basic ideas of it which don't pander to audiences as much as they're used to in sci fi or fantasy stories. The Parts really are one big story, and I can't wait to take in Part Two - it's going to be much more successful in some ways than One, I think we can at least be confident of that. And MESSIAH should be amazing too, but that one is going to positively hurt some audiences...which I look forward to, actually.

The tone of the film is entirely different from what we experienced in the previous one. Despite being directed by the same person and continuing the previous one. I comprehend why people are finding this more enjoyable. It feels more like a Hollywood blockbuster film. There is more action, but it lacks the dark, gritty, and grounded feeling of the first film. The lack of character development and motivations for why the characters are acting and thinking the way they are is also present. Even though it is longer than the previous one, I feel like the big climax was rushed. There were moments when I was wondering how that person got there in the first place. Also, the villains were less frightening than they were before. Yes, we got Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha, the Baron's nephew. Despite appearing and acting like a reptilian most of the time, he remains a typical blockbuster villain. He was only there to battle our hero, and that's all. Hans Zimmer score is not even memorable. You barely notice the score. It seems to me that the studio had some creative control over the sequel, as it felt like it was directed by someone else, not Denis Villenueve. From interviews, I observed that Denis repeatedly stated his intention to provide the audience with what they desired, and it was evident. Denis is a director I adore and his signature is evident throughout his films. Unfortunately, I couldn't witness it in Dune 2. I still have a preference for the first one. The action wasn't the primary aspect of the book, so it wasn't required here. I was hoping to experience moments like when the Baron approached and killed Dr. Yueh in Dune: Part One. Despite its simplicity, the scene was still chilling and unsettling. I felt my skin crawling. Same thing happens when Paul meets Reverend Mother Gaius for the first time. Despite not having any action sequences, there were many scenes that stuck with me after seeing the first movie at the theater. It would have been great to see more moments like this in the sequel. Will give it a second watch this coming weekend, but I was extremely disappointed.

What's Dennis Villeneuve gonna do wirh Dune Messiah cuz Lady Jessica and Gurney Hallack both dont appear until Children of Dune and also there has to be a massive time jump at least 18 years in between dune and dune messiah for alia to be the right age for Anna Taylor Joy to play Alia and Paul be in his mid 30's its the only way. I feel like Dennis Villeneuve is gonna use plot points from children of dune to finish this story cuz otherwise how else include Lady Jessica and Gurney Hallack so ur gonna have to do children of dune which i know he wont do even though i think he should end there it's as final as dune ever gets

Without a shadow of a doubt, Dune1 and Dune will be regarded as classical works of pure art for centuries to come.
Having said that, we should bear a truly horrible, heartbreaking thing in mind. When Dune1 was produced, it was made as a 4 by 2 meter painting of pure beauty and slendor, and it showed landscapes and a sky and people and marvelous wonders. It was huge and beautiful and all art. It was truly amazing. But what did Denis do? Denis went to the shed, took a rusty saw and started cutting. Denis was scared. The studios were scared. Everyone was scared. They were scared of fossil fuel industries, of MAGA, of cancellation, of covidiots, of big banks and political correctness and racism. So Denis started cutting with his rusty saw and reduced this beautiful otherworldly piece of art down to 2 hours and 17 minutes. They were scared big stupid star wars and disney and Mavel and dumbed down murican audiences wouldn't get it. And they were right. The dimwitted clucless crowds out there found Dune1 'slow' and 'it was artsy fartsy' and "why were there so many brown people in it', it "reeked of terrorism" and it was 'leftist" and "woke". So what we were left with was a painting like the mona lisa, barely biggerr than a coaster, and a movie lasting 2 hours and 17 minutes. Denis made a beautiful movie, BUT
Jason Moma has said out loud (and was promptly disciplined by the studios nd Denis) he has SEEN, with his own eyes, a finished version of 12 hours. This is commonly referred to as the "Directors" or "Assembly" cut. This version was finished. It showed scenes that were much much wder. Landscapes with floating Sardaukar battleships midair. Yet Denis opted to focus in the scenery and make it more direct, simpler, less politically confusing, more dumbed down. So we go a focus shot of a Sardaukar priest chanting - which was in itself amazing - whereas in the original shot you could see about 12 times wider, with soldiers standing at attention for miles and miles, and buildings and battleships, and stormy weather all around and thousands upon thousands of human sacrifices and rivers of blood. But the studios didnt want that. They were scared Covid would last for te years, and trump would be in a second term and the US would be governed by the KKK. So 12 hours was mercilessly hacksawed down to 2 hours and 17 minutes and all tha cut content was put under strict embargo and stored in a vault and NOBODY was allowed to see any of it.
And even now Denis hs doubled down under the motto "I needed to murder my babies" and he insist not a soul ever will get to see the original version, because it showed things that would be unpalatable and "intellectually too difficult" or "confusing" for current 2020 audiences. It was a true nightmare, this process and the studio politics involved. They wanted to make tw versions - one a full 3 hours and 45 minutes, but they quietly canned that plan and deleted all references to it - until Jason blabbered his mouth and let out the secret of the 12 hour version.
Ther is an all but finished 12 hour version. There is a finished and much wider almost 4 hour version. But it all got canned and embargoed and now it's a studio secret that would cost people who talked about it bonuses or get them sued. I say - let's pressure Denis to finish this 12 hour version. Let's reverse his butchery to its original vision. I want to see that full 12 hour version. I say, let's terrorise the studios to stop this injustice and chase them back into the editing booths, and MAKE them put this 12 hour version in theaters. I would pay 200 euro to see it.
I would easily dish out the same for a likewise 12 hour Dune2 version. The Banquet. Guernay playing the Baliset. Duncan living among the Fremen. Different scenes of spice harvesters. Different scenes of Harkonnn Saboteurs. Much much longer scenes of all cut content. Substantially less focused scenes but much much wider panoramic shots. Lengthy scenes of Bene Gessit, Giedci Prime, the deserts ofd Dune. Duncan bantering among the Atreides soldiers. Breathtaking scenes of the beauty of Caladan. The palace of the Atreides on Caladan. The voyage up from Caladan, flying INTO the Guild Highliner and flying OUT of the Guild Highliner. Water discipline on Arrakis. Scenes of the city of Arrakeen. Duncan dropping down on Dune from low orbit. More scenes of Atreides ships. More scenes of Harkonnens slaughtering Atreides soldiers. Harkonnen ships bombing Arrakeen. Spice refinery factories. Inside shots of the Atreides vessels. It was all filmed and we are supposed to know nothing of this. They will lie to our faces now, and deny it existence, but we know it exists.
I want it. I want the Painting restored to its original magnificience. I do not want to live in a world without Coke.
We deserve it, give it back to us.
And in the name of Shai Hulud - do not do the same sacrilege to Dune2.

Unpopular opinion for sure . In order to fully appreciate I guess you really need to be into the story and dune universe. Seeing all of that come to life in such a masterful way, was quite an experience. I’m sure none of us is a movie director to fully appreciate the level of mastery required to produce that level of quality

I agree with the alsmost too much action comment. I like part one better, but both are great. I felt that the white savior criticism wasn't very clear in the movie, though.
