You can downshift with the quick shifter when the throttle is closed

I just got a 2023 and love it. Since I started riding 25 years ago I've always wanted a comfortable upright sport bike. I am also riding a HD Iron 1200. I can tell you although the Iron 1200 is more comfortable getting back on a motorcycle with modern technology is amazing. People's little complaints about brakes and suspension are not even noticable to me yet. They are so much better than the Sportster. I find the brakes and suspension to be plenty adequate. I'm still riding in drive mode 4 and traction control 2 while breaking in the motor. Oh and that's the other thing. This motor is a peach. This is the perfect motorcycle for my riding style and the best middleweight bang for your buck. That quick shifter is awesome.

I'm 61, have a '18 mt09 and a new '21. I go down to the tideflats in Tacoma Wa which is a vast, deserted place off hours and weekends. Maybe I'm just very juvenile but I touch triple digits almost every time I go out....in safe situations with almost NO other cars around. I can already tell you the new gen is far more stable at speed than '18. '18 has K-Tech suspension front and rear, much more plush than stock (nonsp) '21 but they totally changed frame/geometry on new gen and it is just inherently more stable. Old gen at about a measly 100, front end too light and sketchy unless you put all your weight over front end. New gen at 100....let's go faster! I put on the taller of the 2 puig windscreens that fit the '21> mt09 and it makes it SO much nicer at speed. There is the new gen sport puig and the taller what they call touring model although it's not that tall. I have the shorter new gen on my '18, cuts some wind. The slightly higher touring model on my '21 does a much better job, eliminated almost all torso wind and I'm 6'1". Plus on taller model you actually have enough room to fully tuck under if want to do one of those high speed blasts😃. I got the clear this time so I can see behind it when I do tuck in. The Puig stuff REALLY is nice! Super easy install, 4 blank screws above headlight area that you pop out and puig bracket lines up PERFECTLY! Integrates beautifully with the the new one-eyed cyclops headlight. High quality shit too, money well spent for like $200 with tax. Spend the money for the Evotech radiator gaurd. A quality stuff again.DON'T WAIT! I already had one fairly small rock dent in my radiator at just 600mi when I put it on. Even if it's a $30 amazon cheapie, put something on it!!! Why they let them roll out of the factory with nothing, can't figure it out. Radiator extremely vulnerable with nothing on it. One decent size rock and ride over. Hope you don't overheat it in the process🤔. Just put one on, trust me. Waiting for yosh exhaust, placed my order. Projected date is july. That's the way it goes in this world of "covid" and backorders. Only decent exhaust actually available is the akra and I'm not a big fan of the looks, rather long can that sticks out a long ways. I'm just going to wait to flash it at the same time I install Yosh AT2 full system. Shorter, more tucked in, looks much better IMO. '18 has yosh r77 full system and it's nice! Without db killer in it is plenty loud, almost too much. Sounds f ing sweet, gorgeous, beautiful, music to the ears. I'll get the '21 there but the guy i bought the '18 from spent ridiculous amounts of money on it, like approx $7k in just aftermarket parts alone! And yeah, it's not at all hard to do, the best of everything. Good God, I would never spend that much nor will I on the '21. Exhaust/flash and I probably will flip for K-Tech suspension. You have NO idea how much more plush a bike is with full K-Tech until you hop on a stock '21. It's a big chunk of change, probably about $2500 with labor and tax. However, I'm keeping this bike so I'm going to have it dialed. By the way, if you're going to flip for aftermarket suspension, K-Tech is considerably cheaper than Ohlins and I've heard nothing but fantastic things about K-Tech suspension, from their street stuff all the way up to their race spec stuff. I would have bought an SP at the time of my purchase but only standard models were available when I finally pulled the trigger and wrote the big check. Probably would have been perfectly happy with Ohlins on SP and not felt the need to touch suspension. I can tell they didn't spend much on the shock on standard mt09, pretty pathetic! Think the K-Tech stuff on my '18 is absolutely fantastic, that's why I'll spend the $. If you've read this far in this post, you're a trooper! I'm just really into mt09's (as u can c!) and love to here peoples experiences. Happy and safe riding folks🤟👍

Hey man. I actually read all of this you wrote and thanks for your time and info.
      Wanted to ask you something...
What do you say about the handling and feel of the front wheel on this new gen 09?
Did you maybe try MT10 or 07 as well and can you compare?
I had MT10 and now 07 and loving the feel of the front wheel but not sure it's gonna be the same cause on 09 front part seems to be more raised + handlebar higher...
      Thanks,
      Stefan.

Put the Puig touring windshield on it and learn how to actually ride it. If you do , you will find yourself on what maybe is the best all around motorcycle ever made anywhere close to this price. Riding since 1956 and have owned 30 plus motorcycles. I believe my MT09 is the best bike yet. I maybe a little long in the tooth but I ain’t slow as I know the limits of Bussa’s and 1400 Kawasaki’s.
