      @@maureenlancaster1694 There is a lot more to the method than in this video. I believe most videos only show basic things like this to entice people to check out her book. If they posted everything, that wouldnt be quite fair.

      I've been cutting the tops off of La Croix 12-pack boxes to use for storing small towels, and saving empty Kleenex boxes for drawer organizers. I may eventually replace them with fancier boxes, but really, it's a fantastic way to start organizing for free, just by using whatever you have around the house. A great way to recycle, too!

    These are very helpful! I’ve been using the same small Dawn Dishwashing liquid bottle for 8yrs 😂! I just wash and sanitize it before refilling. I also fold my frequently used clothes and store them in cloth cube bins. They are usually fabrics that don’t wrinkle. It’s SO much easier to do laundry because I have a folding roller cart that I put my cube bins on. As I fold clothes I just put them straight into the bins and put the bins back in the closet only making one trip. I also bring my daughters 10 slot shoe rack out to put her outfits in so she can dress herself quickly! That saves so much time during the school week. This video did give me some good ideas for pot storage in hard to reach places though!

    a really good tip for organizing your closet! a lot of us have wardrobes that go all over the place in terms of different color, texture, and length. I find it the most visually pleasing to sort by garment type, sleeve/hem length, and then color/sometimes texture (I own a lot of black, but in different fabrics i.e cotton, velvet, lace, etc) in that order.. it's such a nice, comfortable way to store clothing.
    it's a good way to have drastically different cuts and colors of clothing hanging together while still looking intentional and gradual. going from a black tank top to a grey tank top, then a grey tank top to black t shirt, then to a white long sleeve is visually easier to follow than a black tank top to a black t shirt to a grey tank top to a white long sleeve.
    while it's not a solid gradient, it actually ends up functioning slightly easier because each color block is a different type of garment so you can see exactly what you have of that style.

    • @OrgaNatic
      @OrgaNatic  3 года назад +5

      I agree with you. But in Germany we recycle everything what's possible and I take it as a matter of course. E.g. when my hubby eats a yoghurt, he takes up the metal cover (it goes to the metal recycling bin), he separates a paper label from the plastic cup and put a paper into the paper recycling container and the plastic cup in the plastic container.
      We separate here glass garbage per colors (white, green, brown), and many other things too. I even bring expired medicine to the pharmacy to get it recycled in the right way. May be next time I need to emphasize it and not just think everybody knows what I am doing with my clutter.

    Most of my clothes are black or darker colors so it’s not very helpful to organize by color. I organize by type; if I’m looking for a button up I don’t want to look through multiple colors to find one. I want it with the other button ups, then I can choose the color from there.

      I did something similar. I have a winter/summer capsule wardrobe that I change out every six months, so my heavy stuff is already stored away. But most of my clothes are either black or white, and I just separated all my garments by those colors. Then I organized them by how frequently I wear the shirts, least frequently to the right, most frequently to the left

    • @isaultra3405
      @isaultra3405 4 года назад +2

      Same here, I wear most black and always sort by type and shape: t-shirts, shirts and dresses by arm length, thick/thin socks and tights with(out) patterns. Special clothes have a special place: swimsuits, hats etc are in boxes. Jackets and belts always hang, the rest lays folded in drawers. I only possess soft fabrics that need no iron to look good.
      One drawer contains my used and aired clothes. Airing clothes and bedding keeps them much longer fresh.
      Any other ideas? :)

      similar! I do type, then color in the ROYGBIV style. This does help me loads. Like all my cardigans are together, so when its time to grab a warmer laying piece, I know where to go. If I want lighter or darker clothes, its easily located.

    Form follows function so I group clothing by occasion; office, party, tourist, peasant (comfy but damaged garments for painting, gardening, etc). For decluttering a large hoard, I find Kondo's method of collecting an entire category into a single pile logistically impractical. It assumes you have an open area available and can easily locate all your strays. I prefer room by room sifting and sorting with some empty totes and a trash can at hand.
    On the initial sort dispose the obvious garbage, weed what belongs elsewhere into totes, tidy and group what belongs, clean off surfaces, sweep floors, leave drawers and closets alone. At the end of the session take out the trash, move the totes into their proper rooms. Repeat for the entire house.
    On the next pass you have more open space to work in. Leave no stone unturned. Sort the closets, drawers, boxes, cabinets, etc. Discard what you clearly do not want and cannot donate. When in doubt it stays. Don't engage your emotions. Postpone the trips down memory lane until you are done for the day.
    On the next pass you have enough open space to do Marie Kondo if you wish. At this point, you've done a recent tour of all your possessions and know where things are located. Decide what you will keep. Place the donates into a tote. Discard everything else. Don't agonize and loose your stride. Place undecided items into a separate tote. You may have items that need repair or mending before you can decide. After you've done the entire home, revisit those undecided items. The decisions will be easier and clearer the second time around. Deep clean during if it will keep you motivated and refresh your spirit. If not, postpone until the house is sorted out.

    I do a capsule wardrobe - so only have a few items of clothing and they can all hang in my closet - by type, by length, by color. No need for all the folding. If you have a large wardrobe, then I can see where this would help - but not necessary for me. (Also, if I can't see it when I open the closet, I forget I have it!). I just change it out seasonally, and store the out of season clothing in clear containers under the bed. The only things I keep in drawers are pajamas and bras/pants. I do fold my scarves like this and keep this in a clear container in my closet also.

    • @educostanzo
      @educostanzo 4 года назад +57

      Maybe it is. In my experience, I find very pleasing to be in a room without any printed word around, even on labels and kitchen ingredients. For some reason, I find it very distracting and catch myself reading those things all the time. But that's my opinion, I don't even like clothes with any words printed on them.

      I bought amber colored pump bottles for the bathroom that are aesthetically pleasing two years ago and it is by far my favorite thing that I have done to calm my mind. I just pour the products I buy into them. I use the same products over and over and if I switch up I take a photo of the label and store it on my phone. I also buy more organic products as well as organic baby products so I don't have to worry about reactions as much or my kids using them. As for cleaners, I also aim for natural and to hey usually have some pretty aesthetically pleasing minimal looking labels . I have taken the labels off and put just vinegar water or dawn dishsoap as well.

    • @educostanzo
      @educostanzo 4 года назад +10

      @@francescachecchin6191 that's very sad to know, really. My idea does not include taking off labels in potentially dangerous substances, in fact I usually mark them with a red tape (I only live with my SO and she is aware of the method). You can always store things with labels facing the wall as well.

    • @paigec5017
      @paigec5017 4 года назад +8

      Thats a good safefty reminder! Of course, everyone should use their own discretion. Naturally there are some products you use so frequently and with such an obvious form that you don't need labels (i.e. rice or if you buy the same soap every time) obviously for any chemical the label should stay on the bottle. Its also a good idea to put the date you got the food or other product to work out the experiation date if needed.

    Hi, thank you for sharing your tips I enjoyed watching the video! I have a question about the #2 remove labels were possible. So regarding removing the labels from food supplies, than how do you keep track on the expiration date and if you want to check what is the cooking time?

    • @OrgaNatic
      @OrgaNatic  4 года назад +11

      I remove the front sticker only from some bottles like liquid soap or dish washing detergents. In this case I have all the infos at the back side of the bottle. But noone can see it and the bottle has a "tidy" look without any noise. As for food, I use plastic containers for storage. For such items like rice I don't need any information. I know how to make it and we eat it in a regular basis :) It doesnt't have a chance to get expired :) For pasta I cut the cooking time information from the package and put it inside. We also eat it often. But there is a trick how to add some information. Put a sticker on the bottom of the container and note the cooking time and expiration date :)
