Fun thing about this video is that every time you see them in a new room or setting, you'll notice they keep progressively going up floors in the building. The higher up they go the more intense and difficult the song gets. Until they finally reach the top, which is where the master himself is waiting to receive them, seated on his throne. The whole video builds to them meeting Steve vai at the top of the guitar game, and being accepted by him as having reached that status. Honestly such an awesome visual analogy of musicians that hold each other in the highest of respects.
I also like how Steve played his part like he is just another member of the band. Nothing over the top or anything crazy (for him). He just complimented the song.
I had the same interpretation, really well done by them - I also think that the very end, when they are admiring in silence a trumpet melody, gives a suggestion that they all consider melody (not shred) being the pinnacle of music, which seems true for how both Polyphia and Vai approach music.
Imagine how they must've felt, producing this military grade banger, with one of the most influential guitarists in history. They got to play with one of their heroes as equals. Can't imagine how amazing it must've been to make this track.

You just know you’ve reached the peak when the legend Steve Vai himself is featured in one of your songs. This is Polyphia’s very own “Tender Surrender”
Vai's solo is so damn Steve Vai. You know he could shred the boys to pieces, but he just sings along with the melody and only shreds a view notes to highlight Clays insane drum links betwen parts. Guy is a legend.
Could he, though? Could he "shred them into pieces"? because all I see here is a lazy walker making a bunch of noise. I've seen Crossroads, I know Vai can shred, but this sh*t was just lazy, slow, weak, & noisy. Honestly a terrible solo. I liked them to begin with. Idk what it is.. when every song is on that insanely technical and intricate, yet repetitive plane.. it just goes from amazing to boring and every song kinda sounding the same. A couple flashy songs to show off your talent is one thing.. but to do it every song... Sometimes, less really is more.

I think it's funny how a couple of reactions have pointed out how Steve sits on a throne, but it's actually the same chair that Tim and Scott sat while playing their leads :P
I think they're making a statement with the 3 of them coming in on the throne for each of their introduction/main solo parts.... That they are the kings of guitar, with Steve being the godfather.
Saw them live in NYC with Unprocessed and they had a trumpet player in their opening song which was amazing and fit so well with the guitar, was very funky. Expect more trumpet on the album.
Scottie went off in this jam. Steve Vai sounds so good too. The way he uses bends, whammy, and sustain to create that emotion in the playing was just some Neo level stuff.

There are clear bits of both muse and most hated in there, plus great darker harmonic minors that provided the backbone on NLND and the acoustic riff of the remember that you will die. Vai's solo was just lovely as he did so much classic steve vai shit, with a new level of whammy abuse, fitting into the pocket of the song and raising the bar. The final jam with the three of them baack to back felt like a g3 crescendo. What cannot be understated is just HOW WELL the two clay's play off each other. Gober especially does the simple stuff so fucking well, and knows how to bring in the fuel for the guitarists' fire

This is my favourite polyphia song in a long while. So many throwbacks to renaissance and previous while still incorporating the new nylon strum style and more recent inspirations. Then you have STEVE FUCKING VAI. And then such a clean trumpet part in the end which I kinda wish was incorporated more into the song
The people on social media who say it's mediocre or that they even dislike this song are insane. Knowing this is the closing track on the upcoming album, it feels like it's a showcase of their evolution and the pinnacle of their talent and success, and it is friggin amazing to listen to! To have Steve Vai featured on your album proves it.
It's hard to call it a song tbh. I love Polyphia. So much. Maybe i only like their "pop formula" stuff but i can't respect something with no hook or recurring structure as a "song". I was thoroughly impressed by this. But just being impressive doesn't make your song listenable. Playing God was a structural masterpiece. This.... this is just a bunch of random guitar noises (which can barely be heard over the bass and drums half the time with clean tone slap guitar being the main theme)
Many if not everybody, they're missing the meaning on why the Brasstracks guy comes last even after Steve. Steve is the precursor to their style(Polyphia) and the trumpetist is the user of the instruments and genre that is the precursor to all of them(since Rock and Roll and all its branches descend from African beats and jazz, among others), so this piece to me is a beautiful ode and tribute to Rock. When I first heard it and thought the song was ending, then the trumpet came in...man, I was emotional that day and I got chills and cried a little on how good it sounded, what a masterpiece!
I don't think it would've made sense for Steve to do lots of technical stuff, considering both guitarists (all the musicians actually) already have ridiculously technical parts in the song. It would've sounded too crowded and it'd be impossible to balance all three parts without confusing the listener. So Steve's part in this song is more of a over-arching melodic line that compliments the already fast, technical stuff underneath it (and vice-versa). I think they did a pretty great job with the song's arrangement.
So cool! I feel like that was a nod to all of the guitar fans for Polyphia! Definitely was the most progressive song! So cool that they came back to it. I'm loving all of the new songs they have been dropping and I'm excited for the album!
I looked at my guitar today morning and smiled. Promised myself I'm gonna practice and become better today. Then I saw this. Anyone looking to buy an Ibanez?
@@valenb2839Haha, no I think Ibanez guitar and basses are wicked, I was adding on saying trying to sell a guitar in this comment section would be impossible
Polyphia continue 2 inspire me as a Bass player who has listened to everything from Death,Bjork,Miles ,Bob Dylan,Cynic,,Nas,Jaco, everything and anything that pushes the envelope, they give me hope that music will continue 2 get better!
This is so cool, man. And pretty huge deal. The older legend almost like passing the torch to the younger generations of hopefully legends to be. Tim and Scott are such inspirations, Steve obviously and without doubt is as well, but it's wild to see these guys cement their place among the stars. The dude at the end is clearly the god of music, Apollo, summoned to pay his respects with his blowy instrument that i'm too uneducated to name from the top of my head.
Glad that Steve Vai didn't try to "compete" for speed, but do something that is still really unique and spacy-sounding, which is very much up his ally.
ok, first we see tim sitting on the throne, then we see scott also sitting on the throne, they consider themselves the king of the guitar, until finally at the top (roof top) they meet steve sitting on the throne, see steve playing guitar they end up killing their ego (EGO DEATH) and admit that Steve is the real guitar king, but at the end of the video we see they are all greeted with trumpets, we know that trumpets are usually used to welcome kings when they enter the kingdom (in the end all of them are kings).
I got chills when I heard this the first time. I agree with you about them going back to their roots on some of the lines in this one. So freaking good
Tim showed the track list on a twitch stream, his name is Ivan, and his group Brasstracks is indeed featured on the first song on the album, Genesis, I believe it’s called.
What I love about this is that is starts off simple, getting more and more technically complex until Steve sort of strikes back at their chops playing a part that sounds deceptively simple until you actually try to understand the technique behind it, as if to say "Hey, that's pretty damn cool. But watch THIS." It's a progression from a journeyman to a working artist to a master in their field. But in the end, it all comes back to the original motif, being played completely plain on a horn. It's devoid of any apparent technical difficulty, and yet that plain ending is what ties the whole thing together - the feeling of music at its simplest, rawest form. And that's because with such a simple piece, the artist can fully infuse each and every note with feeling and meaning. How? Why? Because contained in that simple progression of notes is THE ENTIRE rest of the song. All of it stems from that leitmotif. And the right leitmotif can make you cry, or laugh, or sit down and think. The connection you get with a song that transcends your physical existence? That's when your ego, your sense of self, falls away. That is TRUE ego death.
5:50 idk what but I feel like it's a similar story to the making of Playing God and they went onto Fiverr and got some person to do the trumpet and just invited them to be in the end of the vid too
I hope they throw in more searing guitar solos like on Crush or 87 like the old days. Searing solos hit hard. Nowadays they seem to be going for a solo that sounds like digital glitching.

When I first heard it and thought the song was ending, then the trumpet came in...man, I was emotional that day and I got chills and cried a little on how good it sounded, what a masterpiece!
This is insanity
Playing God has competition now.
you KNOW that back to back to back silliness was Steve's idea
The trumpet makes this whole song. 10000000%
Yup,and the metronome just somehow fits so well, like this is where it belongs, not on SoundCloud mumble raps tracks
Tim fr be like "damn Steve chill on them boomer bends before I take you back the old folks home" and Steve like "ok sorry sir" lol
This Polyphia album will be probably historical, a turning point even, for guitar oriented music
I love how after all these years steve vai still has the same sound, i love it kept true to his roots
So cool! I feel like that was a nod to all of the guitar fans for Polyphia! Definitely was the most progressive song! So cool that they came back to it. I'm loving all of the new songs they have been dropping and I'm excited for the album!
“Random dude with a trumpet” put some respect on the homies Brasstracks lol
''i feel like im in a clock.'' thats probably the most accurate thing you've said, like ever.
it's so sweet you can see nik's face just change at that last part going from amazement to just happiness
Mind blown. Where do they go from here? A song with Al Di Meola and the ghost of Paco de Lucia? Make it happen
I love the way vai just plays like he’s singing, also the way they work up to king to be accepted
Nik, i can proudly say, that wasn't a "V" ahahaha
Dude! Loved the genuine reaction in this video! Especially the time when Steve comes in and when the trio were blasting off! Rock on, mate!!
I looked at my guitar today morning and smiled. Promised myself I'm gonna practice and become better today. Then I saw this.
Anyone looking to buy an Ibanez?
good luck with that one
I play my father's 80s RG Ibanez which is actually a treassure, but i don't have money for a personal guitar
@@valenb2839Haha, no I think Ibanez guitar and basses are wicked, I was adding on saying trying to sell a guitar in this comment section would be impossible
The way it all comes together at the end *chefs kiss* it gets me so hyped. The surprise trumpet outro was delicious.
I watched this as soon as I saw it on RUclips, insane! 🙂
As a former bass player, I wish my bass brethren would realize how much a solo mustache makes them look like "weird bass guys"
2:09 this right here! This made me genuinely laugh and I'm mad.
Glad that Steve Vai didn't try to "compete" for speed, but do something that is still really unique and spacy-sounding, which is very much up his ally.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a video that’s come out so recently
Same lol
That little jazz trumpet at the end was just the cherry on top!!
Metal af but you have dinner at grandma's after this. lmfao great line dude! xD
Is there an award for best hair in the industry? Tim wins that award looking like a character from Naruto!
ok, first we see tim sitting on the throne, then we see scott also sitting on the throne, they consider themselves the king of the guitar, until finally at the top (roof top) they meet steve sitting on the throne, see steve playing guitar they end up killing their ego (EGO DEATH) and admit that Steve is the real guitar king, but at the end of the video we see they are all greeted with trumpets, we know that trumpets are usually used to welcome kings when they enter the kingdom (in the end all of them are kings).
Nik I hope you know your videos give me serotonin and life. Thank you 🙏
The progression of this song is just so mesmerising ^^
I got chills when I heard this the first time. I agree with you about them going back to their roots on some of the lines in this one. So freaking good
Trumpet dude will be next feature song. Calling it now
That’s Brasstracks look em up, they’re saucy. I hope that’s the next feature!
Tim showed the track list on a twitch stream, his name is Ivan, and his group Brasstracks is indeed featured on the first song on the album, Genesis, I believe it’s called.
That was a sick 6 minute intro for that trumpet solo
I love how - everyone expects Steve to SHRED...and he doesn't:
...
...
Instead, he puts out one of the most passionate solos in his entire career.
That is TRUE ego death.
i'd love to see eric johnson on a song with them. that dude was the first person i ever saw do the hybrid picking
This! I think EJ with polyphia would be amazing.
5:50 idk what but I feel like it's a similar story to the making of Playing God and they went onto Fiverr and got some person to do the trumpet and just invited them to be in the end of the vid too
Does anyone else feel like this was sort of a passing of the torch kinda thing?
Man this Steve via just got a huge boost to his popularity, dope that they helped out a new artist like this
I hope they throw in more searing guitar solos like on Crush or 87 like the old days. Searing solos hit hard.
Nowadays they seem to be going for a solo that sounds like digital glitching.
I'm pretty sure this collaboration project was started by Steve sending Tim a message: "Thought you might want someone to do them boomer bends"
