Remember my words. In the future, Genshin Impact's music will be memorable and one of the most iconic game soundtracks.
But in the meantime, enjoy this level of production.
This song is played in a boss fight against a woman that holds an orphanage part of some spy governement association where she trains orphans to do some dangerous missions. A part of her orphans wanted to leave she so was about to kill them, and that's kind of the context of the it.
Her presence is very similar to that singer (and she's a woman) its crazy. The children choir makes so much sense.
The character itself is an androgynous woman wearing a suit and calls herself "Father" so it makes sense that the singer's her voice is so deep too. She has like red X in her eyes and it's shown with the lighting
It’s amazing how many plot points she was able to extract from the music alone
Well in a sense she was actually not going to kill them. This was the "old ways" of the House of the Heart (name of the orphanage) but she chose to act as if she was about to kill them in order to test out her own children... Would they band together to try to survive or just be indifferent and let the ones wishing to leave just perish?
And in order to help the children also gain some courage to resist of course she went out her way to convince The Traveler (the protagonist of the game) to stand by their side out of fear the her insane pressure (which she's indeed very scary when she gets serious) would crush their will to fight. But with the legendary Traveler by their side they actually would feel a bit more confident of having a slim chance of victory.
In the end (i'll spoil you since you don't play the game) they lost... but she took that into account and didn't kill anyone, she actually gave the ones wishing to leave their liberty and revealed that many of the others that left the orphanage before even during her new installement as the Orphanage director (there was a change in Directors basically) were not killed but she actually found a way to wipe out the bad memories and (because the orphanage is also a undercover spy organisation) informations of missions from their past lives allowing them to leave the orphanage "untainted" so they could live normal and peaceful lives.
So for short she might look menacing and evil but she does so she looks dependable to the children, she may look fearsome but she's actually using it as a means to prove that she can protect them, she may be hard on the outside but she does has a tender hidden side... The children may call her Father by her actions... But in the end even she has the heart of a true Mother.

I fucking love how the singer perfectly embodied the characters body language and movments i could easily see Arlecchino on there.
yes, the singer is a woman. There's more detailed explanations like from the youtuber marcomeatball who's an opera singer. But in terms of correlation to the game, I love they chose a deep voice work woman because it's exactly represents the character the song was made for. Won't bore you with game details if you don't care.
Though I should mention this song is more, one of a kind in genshin, because every important piece is different in a way. Especially this one which is a weekly boss theme, there's currently 10 weekly boss themes, all have 2 phases and yes this video doesn't do the 1st phase because their build up pieces so they skipped it. All of them I'd say give different feelings. Unfortunately not all of them get music videos and the scaramouche boss theme, polumnia omnia, is sung by a completely different main singer and the voice type is vastly different.
personally.... not a fan of the music video version....purely because of the completely different emotion it gives, nothing against the singer, he did well. The original is just better.
Man, the male singer was Yu Peng-chen he really wanted to sing it. I doubted this info so i double chacked it and yeah he is him.

Since you like anime, you might consider reacting also to the Genshin Character Demos and especially connected to this song the animated short called "The Song Burning in the Embers" on the official Genshin Impact Channel. If you do decide to make a video or just watch them for fun, please, start from the oldest one. Things will make more sense that way and you'll see how they were able to improve when they could invest more. :)

4th of the 11 Fatui Harbingers, a group of high-ranking officers who work for the Tsaritsa (god of ice) and are based in Snezhnaya (Genshin's Russia). After joining the Fatui she took over the management of the House of Heart orphanage, the same ophanage she was rased in before she killed the previous head of the house "The Mother". The ophanage raises kids to become Fatui againts and soldiers but unlike the previous leader of the house "Mother" Crucabena she seems to really care for her children in her own way.

It’s a little better than this, although this one feels more like an actual final boss theme, especially the live performance. The live for Scara’s theme is alright and the original is way better
