+lofthouse23 So glad I'm not the only one who noticed that! Even though Ramis was against it I can't help but feel he missed out on one of the best movie romances ever. Egon and Janine all the way!
nodinitiative Egon and Janine started conversing more by this point esp when Janine expresses concern about Louis. Then she hugs him and he cautiously embraces her. I've watched this movie numerous times on 3 different formats, but rarely noticed Egon running out while holding Janine's hand. I wonder if even he knew what all would happen if the power grid was shut down, besides the ghosts escaping. Between those laser like streams and the explosion coming out the main entrance, followed by a few other manifestations, from a paranormal perspective, this was rather catastrophic!
I prefer to think after GB2, Janine ended it with Louis and went back to Egon, who by this point had opened up a little and accepted her. Louis is a bad example of a lover.
They legally are not responsible for the explosion, they told them MULTIPLE times not too. Dickless is singlehandedly responsible and should have listened to the LICENSED electrician who said “Uhh I've... I've never seen anything like this before, I don't know i-" Edit 1-1-2020 corrected the quote.
Well, when he said "I've never seen anything like this before..." The electrician was clearly voicing his own professional objection to just switching it off without knowing more about it. Peck of course wasn't interested in his objection and just wanted the whole thing turned off. Its a classic situation of a dickhead in a suit pursuing his own ego on a power trip and ignoring the advice of those who clearly know alot more about it than he does.
I have walked off jobs because I wasn’t qualified to work on something or change the status of equipment. The customer would be pissed but I’m not gonna lose my life or my job working on something that could hurt me or anyone else
Bringing him back as the mayor in Frozen Empire and having him keep his vendetta against the Ghostbusters all these years later was brilliant. Props to Atherton for returning as Peck and never losing the spirit of this character
I've been watching this movie since it was released, and I NEVER knew that when Peck gets the marshmallow dumped on him, you hear him scream "I HATE YOU VENKMAN!!!" I guess I just never paid attention.
Also, if you listen to the DVD commentary, Harold Ramis says that William Atherton, the actor playing Peck, asked him while shooting that scene if it was going to hurt when all that "marshmallow" was dumped on him. Ramis replied with, "I really don't know." 😂
@@dannydinosaur73 Wow, Atherton even performed his own stunts. I give the man props for playing Peck so well and for going that deep into the role. He also played Val Kilmer's professor in Real Genius.

there are not many tunes in world cinema that encapture a moment better then when peck and the authorities arrive at the station. The ghostbusters are realising that they have real problems with barretts apartment block and its that 'oh shit' moment - that's peck and he has actually followed through with his threat and here he is with his full set of warrants and right authority figures to completely derail the ghostbusters which could stop them from saving new york. That arrival tune is purfect for that moment and i still remember this tune from way back when I was first watching it as a little one. great scene
Try to understand Paul Feig this is a very devoted and nostalgic fanbase. Simply telling them to support this reboot would be like dropping a bomb in the city!
Also in the original script, there was supposed to be monitor that allowed them to see inside the storage facility where they could see all the ghosts inside, floating around, leaning against the wall and hanging from the ceiling. It was supposed to be like seeing a bunch of ghosts roaming a giant prison cell. All the ghosts are behind that wall. If you look closely, you'll see a red door in the wall with a yellow sign above it. It's supposed to be the way into the storage facility. In the original script, Peck orders Egon to turn off the containment system so he can enter it to see what's inside. Egon turns on the monitor screen and tells Peck that he can see what inside through monitor if he wishes but Peck ignores the screen and says that he's not interested in tv right now. IDIOT! There are high voltage laser beams containing the ghosts behind that wall, keeping them from escaping but there's also a lot of spiritual energy back there, too. If the laser beams are shut off, all that energy is released at once, causing an explosion.
That "Oh s***!" from the utility worker when he senses what's about to happen after shutting off the power is one of the best, "I done goofed" moments in film history.
+Michael Gaddass If you read the novelisation version, calm, mild Spengler gets hold of Peck by the lapels and calmly says "I'm going to rip out your septum."
Despite all these years, and knowing that it's a well known IP with humorous strides, this scene still manages to gives a major sense of dread, the moment the system is shutdown. So great.
One thing I love about this scene, that no one ever seems to notice. Peter and Egon (And Janine) are the ONLY ones that know Gozer's return in imminent. Turning off the containment unit and the freeing the ghosts is the least of their problems. Egon in particular knows that turning off the Containment Unit could lead to the end of the world.
I am amazed at all the little nuances I still pick up. At 3:55, Egon is clearly on a mission to find the Keymaster. His level of restrained anger/ terror at realizing what can happen was made apparent by "shit". Egon is now focused on fixing this problem. But at 3:55 he is stopped by the idiot that caused this disaster in the making, and now this idiot is compounding the problem. This causes Egon to lose his focus on the problem at hand his anger was unleashed on the appropriate party. Thank you Mr. Ramis for making Egon an action intellectual.
In all honesty, the idea of a business catching and storing ghosts would sound ludacris in our reality. Sp Peck's suspicions of the Ghostbusters storing unregulared, potentially dangerous materials is not all too far-fetched. Amazing that people today believe in angels yet ghosts are thought to be a fantasy. Even among Christians!

Everyone always says that this guy was just doing his job, was a misunderstood character etc. They say that yes he was an absolute prick and how he went about it, but from his perspective he was just doing what he was supposed to do and thought that these people were frauds putting people in danger. And that's all fine and good... Until you remember this scene. The scene where a professional, a third party on associated with the Ghostbusters, says that he's uncomfortable turning off the device if he doesn't know what it does because of his professional opinion he's never seen anything like it before. And when he says this perfectly reasonable thing, this asshole tells him to shut up. It wasn't about keeping people safe or doing his job, it was because he had a vendetta against them.
He also shows up with just that one guy. Not a HAZMAT team in radiation suits and a SWAT team to cordon off the neighborhood...one police captain and one power company technician.
True that. Yes the character is an officious prick with a vendetta. Had he been really just doing his job, one look at all of this unknown equipment would have had him making phone calls. Probably the NRC among others. The one thing he wouldn't do, was just tamper with unknown and potentially dangerous equipment.
I still think to this day that Peck didn't have anything in that file he showed Janine, so technically he had no right to issue a warrant banning use of nuclear devices and public utilities. He just wanted to get back at Peter for denying him access to the storage facility, even though it was probably for Peck's own safety. Peck would've at least needed a court order allowing him to enter the private residence, in which case Egon stated, and the court would've needed proof or evidence of probable cause in order to ban further use of nuclear devices and public utilities. Those things Peck did not have.
And it took an idiotic irresponsible, obnoxious, egotistical, atheist ass to set him off. His character in this movie was definitely written to be hated lol
Janine was a great character, she was funny, she was whitty, and snarky. She had a strong personality which I think represented a stronger female roll. While I would never see the new ghostbusters movie cuz I refuse to give Sony a penny of my money for shameless remakes, I've heard from everyone who has seen the movie that Chris Hemsworth plays a total moron who isn't funny at all. In fact I've heard that basically every male character is either a moron, incompetent, or an asshole. What is Paul Feig trying to say exactly?
i came to say the same thing as someone who seen the remake he's the only real man in it which shows how badly they treated men in the remake all the other men in the film have no or very few lines. The two female characters in this movie were great in their own ways without relying on stereotypes
"Oh shit" and "Houston, we have a problem" were so excellently executed it demonstrated the big seriousness of the situation. And they're the last things you ever want to hear from professionals
In the script when Peck encounters Janine tells him to step aside or he'll have her arrested, Janine says, "Oh no, hold on. Do I look a child to you? I know you can't come in here without a warrant or writ or something."
One of the funniest aspects of Peck's character is that even though he's a total douche, he's right to question the Ghostbusters and their "unlicensed nuclear accelerators". 😆

As a guy in construction, I loved the construction guys attitude at the beginning. Another classic case of, “why the fuck am I here, I don’t know jack shit what this is” lol
The soundtrack for this was absolutely incredible.
I loved when William Atherton wanted the ghost busters arrested for the explosion and Egon said: "YOUR MOTHER "!!
Even though Harold Ramis was against Egon and Janine's relationship, I still love the fact he grabbed her hand and helped her escape before the Unit blew up.
+lofthouse23 So glad I'm not the only one who noticed that! Even though Ramis was against it I can't help but feel he missed out on one of the best movie romances ever. Egon and Janine all the way!
M Sallasvaara Good job the cartoon picked up on this and allowed it to develop.
If a feminist SJW directed this classic, Janine would smack away Egon's hand n yelled "what are you doing?".
nodinitiative
Egon and Janine started conversing more by this point
esp when Janine expresses
concern about Louis. Then she hugs him and he cautiously embraces her. I've watched
this movie numerous times on 3 different formats, but rarely noticed Egon running
out while holding Janine's hand.
I wonder if even he knew what all would happen if the power grid was shut down,
besides the ghosts escaping. Between those laser like streams and the explosion
coming out the main entrance, followed by a few other manifestations, from
a paranormal perspective, this was rather catastrophic!
I prefer to think after GB2, Janine ended it with Louis and went back to Egon, who by this point had opened up a little and accepted her.
Louis is a bad example of a lover.
Did anybody else realised that Egon was holding Janine's Hand, when the building was exploding, while running outside?
I totally ship them!!!💖💖💖💖💖💖
One would've thought they'd end up together in either of the two films.
@@NYRyder1983 yeah, but Harold disliked the pairing so that’s why they had Janine go with Louis but she thinks of him as a cute little doggy
They legally are not responsible for the explosion, they told them MULTIPLE times not too. Dickless is singlehandedly responsible and should have listened to the LICENSED electrician who said
“Uhh I've... I've never seen anything like this before, I don't know i-"
Edit 1-1-2020 corrected the quote.
There is quite a bit of artistic license with the law here. But then again, how many of us cared about how the law works when we first watched this?
Joshua Santana,
Are you an electrician?
sonrouge,
Well, I did because of the fucking disaster dickless caused when the licensed electrician objected!
God bless Janine, she was a bored receptionist but she really respected the integrity of ghostbusting.
Bringing him back as the mayor in Frozen Empire and having him keep his vendetta against the Ghostbusters all these years later was brilliant. Props to Atherton for returning as Peck and never losing the spirit of this character
I love the way Egon uses his hands to imate a bomb going off!!
Same!
William Atherton will always be remembered as Walter Peck and Dick Thornberg from Die Hard
If Walter Peck appeared in the 2016 reboot, I could easily see him being played by Chris Pratt.
I also remember him as Dr. Hathaway from the sci fi comedy "Real Genius."
That’s why I was shocked to see him in Centenial as a nice guy.
He was also in the Pauley Shore movie “Biodome”
@@slycer2002 I know
I've been watching this movie since it was released, and I NEVER knew that when Peck gets the marshmallow dumped on him, you hear him scream "I HATE YOU VENKMAN!!!" I guess I just never paid attention.
Thanks, will look out for it next viewing 😁
Also, if you listen to the DVD commentary, Harold Ramis says that William Atherton, the actor playing Peck, asked him while shooting that scene if it was going to hurt when all that "marshmallow" was dumped on him.
Ramis replied with, "I really don't know." 😂
@@dannydinosaur73 Wow, Atherton even performed his own stunts. I give the man props for playing Peck so well and for going that deep into the role. He also played Val Kilmer's professor in Real Genius.
Okay. I remember him screaming but I don’t recall him saying anything. It just sounded like gibberish.
You know, not only did Peck cause their containment unit to explode, but he allowed Vinz to escape and meet up with Zuul. Thanks to him, the world was almost doomed.
Exactly what I was thinking!
I still can’t believe that he kept saying that the Ghostbusters caused the explosion, like he wasn’t the one who ignored their warnings
@@outdoorscholar6016 I know right! “YOUR MOTHER!”
"YOU'RE MOTHER" the first and only time we ever got to see egon unleash the dark side, rest in peace to the great legendary icon harold ramis
*your mother
Egon goes badass at 4:03.
Peck: AND THIS EXPLOSION IS A DIRECT RESULT OF IT!
Egon: YOUR MOTHER COULD--!
Peck: HOLD IT!
there are not many tunes in world cinema that encapture a moment better then when peck and the authorities arrive at the station.
And given the reaction to the trailer:
Paul Feig: THIS IS IT! THIS IS THE SIGN!
Sony execs: Yeah, it's a sign all right: "Going out of business".
+Yerflua This made my day lol.
Yerflua Ghostbusters 3 comes out in 2020..We’re the best,we’re the beautiful..Ghostbusters
We’re Back!
I really notice how Egon hold Janine's hand while running out from the Firehouse. #sweet #undenyinglove #egonxjanine ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😍😍😍😍😍
The Con-Ed electrician and Egon saying "Oh, shit!" is the exact definition of "not good."
Egon is like the oldest sibling protecting his ghostbusters siblings
+Alexander Edward Pytko I think it was better to do it this way. Don't bother to show the ghosts like that.
That's funny because in The Real Ghostbusters they did end up installing a monitoring system.
That I heard. I think they made a sketch and with all that light would've been to difficult to make anything out.
The Real ghostbusters show had tv monitor
@@sha11235 The did that in the awful 2016 reboot.
“Your mother!” Always gets me 🤣
The music is just awesome
Don't shut it off!!! And all ghosts will be released!!! It will be YOUR FAULT William!
That "Oh s***!" from the utility worker when he senses what's about to happen after shutting off the power is one of the best, "I done goofed" moments in film history.
2:16 I loved Egon's sardonic gesture.
RIP Harold Ramis. World’s most scientific Ghostbuster
And now Ivan Reitman as well
Such a great scene and a great movie, damn Sony for remaking it and turning it to trash.
Hey, how did you survive? Outpost 31 blew up.

Yep, we have Sony to thank for that and the shitty Robocop remake. Can't they come up with new and original ideas??

Ghostbusters 3 is coming in 2020.
All this has taught us the value of proper shut-down and lock-out tagout procedures

As the guy said it: awwwwww s#!t
Only thing which would make this scene better would be if Egon actually managed to hit Peck.
+Michael Gaddass Yeah I agree but didn't he yell at him saying YOUR MOTHER
+Michael Gaddass If you read the novelisation version, calm, mild Spengler gets hold of Peck by the lapels and calmly says "I'm going to rip out your septum."
Yerflua: Wait, there's a novelization?!!
When the camera cuts to an overhead view, Egon is STILL fighting Peck and the cops can't separate them! Damn, he really ticked him off...
@@leahryan5560 Well, there *is* a paperback book of it floating around out there somewhere...
The whole scene of the shutdown and the ghosts wreaking havoc, it gives me chills to watch it now like it did as a kid.
after seeing this movie as many times as I have it makes me wonder why they didn't put a back up generator in just in case the power goes out.
Egon: "BOOM" Outta here, let's bounce.
"Simply turning it off would be like dropping a bomb in the city"🤣🤣
Egon
R.I.P.
Harold Ramis 1944-2014
Awwwwwwwwwe! He's so cute when he tries to kill someone when someone blames him for a life-threatening situation he wasn't really responsible for!
Despite all these years, and knowing that it's a well known IP with humorous strides, this scene still manages to gives a major sense of dread, the moment the system is shutdown. So great.
I love how Egon whispers “boom” to Peter and they start creeping up the stairs knowing what’s about to happen.
2:48 about how I reacted when seeing the new Ghostbusters in the theater. I couldn't resist.
2:34 the best line of the movie!!
"I'm not grotesquely stupid!" Unlike those who greenlit the shitty reboot.
William Atherton's performance was so convincing that he faced hate from fans for a long time.
RIP Egon (Harold Ramis)
In all honesty, the idea of a business catching and storing ghosts would sound ludacris in our reality. Sp Peck's suspicions of the Ghostbusters storing unregulared, potentially dangerous materials is not all too far-fetched. Amazing that people today believe in angels yet ghosts are thought to be a fantasy. Even among Christians!
That's because ghosts go against the idea of an ultimate judgement.
yup n that the majority of mainstream religions ASSume that pure pagans such as myself are evil devil worshipping witches wen in ACTUAL FACT I beleive in god and don't practice anything other then being good to others so in turn I hope to become good in myself!
@@ChupachuGames Ghosts don’t necessarily go against the idea. It’s just an area not mentioned in religious texts all that much. Even the Bible acknowledges the existence of spirits, so if you’re gonna try and discuss the topic, at-least know what you’re talking about beforehand.
What EXACTLY does LUDACRIS mean? Have you had an education? Do you read books? What's that made-up word?
@@ChupachuGames It's all nonsense made up by ignorant people, what's the difference?
The guy who plays the police officer also played a NYC police officer in the movie, "Splash," which came out the same year. Makes you wonder if both movies take place in the same universe. He wore a silver badge instead of a gold one in Splash, instead of a gold one. Maybe he got promoted. ;)
The Adorable Annie Potts 😍 💖 💕 litterly had her man's back!! GO LADY!!

Joseph Weston agreed
I love how the officer stood up for peter
The cop in this scene is actually a real cop in real life. It said so in the close captioned commentary.
Well he did his job perfectly, so did the Con Ed guy, the EPA is at fault, they caused the incident
"You do your job, pencil neck, don't tell me how to do mine!". That's got NYPD written all over it.
@@beav1962 yeah the NYPD and NYFD notoriously fight each other all the time on accident scenes and fires.
amazing how good it is, genius every scene, every element
Ghostbusters was a great movie. All the elements came together. One would think that the second or third time around wouldn't be so bad.
Egon: "try to understand this is a high voltage laser containment system simply turning it off would be like drowning a bomb in the city."
3:30, the extra on left of screen is Ron Jeremy.
Egon's reaction was funny at 2:16 like he was saying "lets position ourselves to get out of here."
Egon saying "Shit" Is the purest definition of "Not good"
4:02 Even Egon, who until then had always seemed calm and level-headed, could no longer control himself and attacked Walter Peck.
I'm dl

I hated Chris Hemsworth's character so much I wanted him to die in the worst agony imaginable
