    Not seen before by me! The utterly charming adorable and extremely talented Julie Covington in Play Away! Priceless and perfect as she is in everything she does bless her! Thank you infinitely for these all too brief clips! My favourite artist ever, where are you Julie? Thanks again.

    It’s wonderful to see the astoundingly talented Julie Covington in these clips from 31.00 onwards. So many wonderful sketches and musical performances by Julie from the mid 70s on Play Away were wiped. Such a disgrace.

      There's a chance that this is the only extant footage of Julie Covington in the Play Away studio. There was a later episode in which she contributed a pre-recorded song that's still in the archives, but I've a feeling every other episode she was in was wiped. I hope I'm wrong, but either way it's scandalous.

      @@VideotapeFTW I sincerely hope other Julie footage survives. I remember her singing a prerecorded song about Rollerskating and wonder if that’s the number to which you refer. I also remember her wonderful interpretation of The Locomotion. Hopefully one day …….

      @@patrickryan7669 Yes, the roller skating song is the one that's definitely still in the archives. But after an admittedly superficial search, that's all I can find of Julie on Play Away. Hopefully I'm wrong and there's more.

    It was a lot better without the live studio audience of later years, wasn't it.

      I know what you mean - it was a much purer, more distilled experience. That said, I think the live audience helped with the energy of some of the songs.

      That's the noise rocks made in prehistoric times. By which I mean 1978.

    What a lovely compilation of clips! Are these really your oldest collection of clips?

    • @VideotapeFTW
      @VideotapeFTW  2 года назад +1

      Yes - the oldest off-air recordings on my channel. The final clip in the compilation comes from 1977!

    The BBC shouldn't have wiped the children's show editions which they shouldn't. It was in 1993 which wasn't at its finest hour.

      It was absolutely scandalous - they were wiped without even consulting the children's department.

      Agree, they should've only wiped the ones they should've, not the ones they shouldn't have.
