I love all your videos! In a very short time you have become a go-to source for everything honest and true in rc. Thank you for all your awesome videos. That being said my experience with this rig is completely different. Instead of buying it and just bashing it. I kept it completely stock and drove it as if I was at the back of the pack with a far less capable vehicle then the guy at the front of the pack. I drove it like I was in it! I learned how it handled. When I had to accelerate and when I needed to let off to let things cool. Sometimes I had to take corners wide to let the esc/motor servo and or shocks cool. Sometimes I could carve the inside. Mines completely stock including the nimh. I'm guessing I've got close to 100 charges on that pack. Everything is warn for sure! But with a handful of new stock parts and that driving philosophy in the right hands it's pretty damn good compared to "any" Tamiya at the same price point lol Thanks again for sharing your experience.👍
Very poignantly put. Thank you for sharing that point of view, it is valuable (and kind of what I was trying to get to at the end and how modern rc cars are so impressive, even comparatively poor ones like this. Tougher than most Tamiyas, yes indeed). Thank you :)
i completely agree. I have tons of vehicles, faster, more capable, but at the end of the day I also have three slashes to four wheel drives and one 2 Wheel. they can all definitely be ised as bashers cause thats what they are in a way. But if you drive em like you are watching a 1:1 vehicle it changes everything.
Spot on! This is so spot on in fact , that if you’re in the market for one of these 1/16 scale Traxxas cars, I advise you to buy used. Because 99% of the time the upgrades that are being referenced in this video, are already done on the used one and you will find it for less money than retail. Which means, that Traxxas knows about this and doesn’t update it. I recently bought a 1/16 mini revo Vxl on offerup and it came with front metal drive shafts. Another must do upgrade for this platform is shimming the diffs. Mights as well get that out the way in the beginning.
That's really good advice. They can be truly excellent cars, with money and time thrown at em. That's the essence of my problem with them, really! Because once they're sorted, they're awesome!
It was switched to lipo. I had xl series ESCs since they were released, these were the 6th of 7th ones I'd owned. Very familiar with their operation and can set menus via the button without needing to look up instructions. Setting to lipo is trivial and was definitely done. Fwiw, changing to lipo activates the lvc feature. That's it. The mosfet array operation is unchanged between lipo and nimh settings. There's nothing magical about the lipo mode otherwise - even if I hadn't set it to lipo, outcomes would be unchanged.
Heh yeah you'd be fine. Only lvc would be missing to save your battery from over discharge, but you'd notice it getting slower and if you stopped right then you'd still usually be fine. I've been playing with lipos for about 15 years at this point and have well over 100 of them in many sizes. Have tried most ESCs on the market, even built my own. This experience is why I'm confident the fire shouldn't have happened in these XL2.5 units. Traxxas really used the minimum suitable parts in them and they really could have added just one more mosfet or used slightly larger ones in the existing array and these little units would take a spanking all day without complaint. Even so, I suspect I just got a bad batch, with both burning. Traxxas did replace them both for me, but they're still sitting unused in my drawer. I don't like these ESCs much!
I bought this car as my first hobby grade RC. I absolutely love it but I get all of the points that you have made and agree fully. I also have a Slash 4x4 VXL and I still enjoy driving. Nice and honest video . I had some problems with the diffs (monkey metal) did you have any, however I found that depending on how you drive this car it can be pretty fun:)
I have had my 1/16 slash for 7+ years and I’ve never had problems with it. I have had to replace the motor and esc but after having it for so long you would expect that from any rc. For anyone wanting to get started with rc cars this is the car I recommend you may see a lot of hate from most people on RUclips but these are people who have rc cars that are 500+ dollars and compare them to cheaper versions obviously it’s not going to be perfect but don’t let that turn you away this is hands down my favorite car
No hate here. If you watched the video you'll find hopefully a balanced opinion based on my experience with it. Thanks for sharing yours, glad you've enjoyed it so much 👍
Thanks for the video and the additions in your caption. Just made a track in my yard and my 1/10 scale cars were too big. Just bought this one and got some of your listed upgrades!
Out of all of My 19 rigs, the mini Slash stands the strongest, only AFTER the Stampede. Either you’re just not aware of the similarity between the mini Slash and the Merv, or you simply don’t drive very well. I also find it pretty ironic that you prefer the Merv to the mini Slash, being that the Merv is a PITA, with all the breakages and constant repairs. Anyone that owns one and actually bashes it understands what I mean. I have NEVER broken a control arm on any of My 4 mini Slash’s. That’s crazy! The only thing I ever >NEEDED< to upgrade was the stock servo and to the same exact wheels that you got. The stocks smooth fast and/or explode under too much power. I’ve even upgraded one of them to run the 10th scale VXL system and she RIPS!!!! Even My mini VXL Slash hauls ass. For the right user, the mini Slash is a win!
I like the mini merv better for handling and ability, but they are both very aged platforms that should be updated or retired. It could be I'm a rubbish driver, but to have had both catch on fire with stock systems on 2s lipo isn't ideal. The broken axles from simple small gravel driving also is weird - loose surface, not high traction. High center of gravity, shocks that leak awfully, overpriced in Australia (maybe not in USA, but they're 1/10 money here), just all round makes for a very unattractive package. This video is an opinion piece. I'm honestly glad that's not been your experience and if it makes you happy, then you're doing it right. Rock on, rc bro.
@@RCTNT I hear that. All I’m saying is that, in all of My years in this hobby, I’ve never even heard of those issues. The XL 2.5 system is graded for up to 2S LiPo. I run 3rd party LiPo brands all of the time and they just work. Broken control arms, system fires and driveline issues are all due to user error. You’re either not switching from NimH -to - LiPo, or you’re running batteries not graded for the system. I can’t figure that one out. All-in-all, ALL RC’s are designed to break; that’s literally what they do. From the top end, to the lower end models. It’s also why they’re so repairable, due to thoughtfully engineered weak points. Upgrading the platform isn’t even necessary. This is why we often buy upgraded parts and hop-ups, right out of the box. Opinions are per individual, but they can also be wrong. The “worst”? That’s just blatantly wrong. Even just for within the Traxxas brand. Appreciate the exchange. 🤙🏾
I guarantee the ESCs were in lipo mode, but Fwiw, the mode change simply enables or disables the lvc circuit. That's it. You can run lipos on nimh and you risk over discharge, but that's all (to my knowledge). I think you're being a little closed minded to discount my issues as all user error. I have around 160 RC cars and the mini slashes are the only two, of all of them, to have had the same issues on both cars. They're also the only ones to have had a fire - both with regular 2200mah 2s 25c batteries, going up in flames soon after being connected to fully charged packs. I use the same 4 packs between many other cars. They're not special, and everything is balance charged before use. Axle breakage happened on loose gravel surface. It was quite a disappointment! It was flat, smooth and me and my boy were just chasing each other with the cars. Nothing crazy, no jumps, even. Many cheaper cars here haven't had that issue. The high cog is a poor design, as are the awful, leaky shocks. The cars would be 'poor' even if they were half the price they are here in Australia, IMO. Anyway, both the mini slashes here have the same issues. For this type of vehicle, they're the worst cars in the world - in my opinion. That's objectively true that it's my opinion, and of course I could be wrong. But I'm not poorly informed, inexperienced, technically inept, or careless. And I am consistent in how I use and maintain all my cars. I've been in the hobby since the late 80s. It could be that I have valid points and you simply haven't experienced these issues. I'm glad for you! My Mini slashes are staying on the shelf now. I'm glad you're enjoying yours, for real. Cheers.
@@RCTNT You’re a bit older than I am and have more extensive experience in the hobby, spanning back father than Myself. That said, it even fire the bewilders Me that you can’t maintain the mini Slash. That, at least for Me, is the furthermost durable truck that I actually bash. I say that because, ironically for you, I’m sure, the Merv is somehow more capable and I happen to face a litany of more issues on each outing with them. I can easily list the weak points of the Merv and I’m sure even you could relate. I have only 20 rigs, most of which are minis, which I take it is why I most likely have more experience with that platform than you do. Whereas, you may have more experience in larger platforms and other brands. I get it, you’ve had similar experiences with both Slash’s; that’s understandable, but to discredit those is to simultaneously discredit the 3 other vehicles of the same platform, which is just bizarre to Me. The mini Slash is a short course truck, as you well know. Perhaps they aren’t fit for loose gravel, unlike the larger versions. If you apply each rig to their respective terrain and track type, they’ll perform as designed. Taking a mini anything out of its element and then classifying one for it’s predictable failures is just a bit off-putting. Then again, you’re right. Our experiences won’t align across the board and I can respect that as well. Rock on. 🫱🏾🫲🏻
@leolux09 I can maintain the mini Slash. I just am tired of doing so. I think we disagree on what makes a car great. The Stampede 4x4 vxl is another I have over a decade of experience with, and it's in my 'poor to fair' category for durability. Easy to repair, yes, like the mini slash. But that's just as well, because they both need it regularly. The other big difference is I'm in Australia. Traxxas is eye wateringly expensive here. I expect the cars to be good for the money. Our proximity to and trade relations with China are such that I have 15 other fast cars roughly the same size as the mini Slash. They're all better and with one exception (LC EMB-T) they're all cheaper. Even the OG LC Racing stuff that has its own R&D. Parts are easy to get for all of these while traxxas parts availability drives me nuts. It's an inconsistent, expensive and frustrating undertaking to maintain a traxxas car unless you're within 20 miles of a hobby shop that stocks their stuff. I suspect the parts support and model purchase price has a significant bearing on my frustration with and your enjoyment of the same cars!
i love my 1/16th, its been to the skatepark multiple times completely stock on a onyx 2000mah 2s lipo. only thing i broke but didnt really break, is i cracked a hub where the ball snaps in. my xl2.5 did catch on fire but thats because we hooked a 3s to it and it immediately caught on fire. but mine has been abused and ive never had an issue with mine, its my fav truck i own, i've owned 2 1/10th slashes, my first one was a 2wd with a castle creation sidewinder 3 system, it broke daily. got rid of it for like $150, ended up with a 4x4 1/10th brushless slash and have nothing but issues with it. even now i have a 1/10th revo nitro thats been converted to brushless and its giving me issues. but my 1/16th ive had no problem with, other than me lighting the esc on fire with an over voltes battery for it, and the fact i sent it into a skatepark bowl and stripped the servo, other than that no issues from the truck itself.
You pulled the body off and I was like, wow it sure looks like the eRevo. It also looks like it's getting tossed all over the place from little things on the ground. For an off-road RC, it looks like we would need an exceedingly well groomed piece of dirt to achieve success 😂
Yep, same platform as the mini eRevo but shorter arms and axles, smaller wheels, etc. Just a sad little car that makes me sad, but at least I could get a video out of them! They're finally good for something!
I don't buy smaller scale expecting better performance, I buy them because I run a small scale course in my backyard. These videos are helpful though and I can see why people with options rather get a 1/10 for the same price.
This is a reasonable approach and interpretation. However, I have quite a few similar and smaller scale cars to these, yet the Traxxas mini slash is the worst of the lot in handling, design and durability. They're comparatively terrible cars and I can't believe traxxas is still selling the brushed version at least. Their brushless version is a lot better with its improved center of gravity, but the same poor suspension and weak axles are problematic. At least the brushless ones won't catch on fire from a 2s lipo, which has happened with both of mine.
@joeoge9347 it seems to be a problem with the esc, the motors will take it all day. If they've updated the esc since mine, good. They really should have done so! Haven't had a latrax anything, sorry. Traxxas is just so expensive in Australia I don't have the same access to them that USA based hobbyists do. I understand they're a budget model with bushings instead of bearings. Don't know they'd be a better choice than arrma or even some of the MJX models, depending on body type and performance needed. Parts are certainly available for traxxas - but are the stock parts what you really want from a model like that? If so, no problem, you're set. But if you'll be upgrading it, it may be worth considering other options.
@@RCTNT Im using an FMT24 I just got as my first Rc, I like it for my small course but it has stability issues, not sure I can get better at 1/24 so I did notice my friends $300 Traxxas E-Revo was alot more stable but too big for multiple racers. Thanks for the replies and look forward to future videos.
Well, you may find good value with these options over the Traxxas, they're popular for good reason: H16BM amzn.to/3KOIxHu H14BM amzn.to/3KKwew3 There's also the original, big name company who designed the platform from which so many have copied: LC Racing. I have their EMB-T and it's just an incredible machine. amzn.to/3Xulfi1 I don't know about their availability and you can probably buy two MJX vehicles for the price of one LC Racing model. In any case these are all worthy vehicles. If you like the mini erevo, these will impress.
Took my slash racing recently against some 1/10 scale on a small track the local hobby town holds on saturdays, i was getting it to jump a double sized island they had setup, everybody was loving watching my car. Lol
Was this with a mini slash?! Sounds like a 1/10 slash but if it really was with the 1/16 one, good for you! I'm glad someone out there is enjoying it! What mods are you running?
@RCTNT yes lol everyone was surprised as we, me included, prior to that i only rode it out in the open, I did the vxl upgrade and tightened the suspension a bit and n
That's awesome, dude. I think you've got a winner there with the smaller motor in particular. The 550 size can on the brushed version just made it way too top-heavy. Good on ya!
@RCTNT almost doesn't roll over anymore unless I'm on 3s because speed. Actually installing a new suspension arm I broke sending it to the moon of a ramp for some kids lol, the also broke the front differential housing slamming it into a curb on accident, was pulling to the left because the broken arm and my spectator friend got in the way during a fly by after the car passed us so I couldn't see where the car was going SMH
@RCTNT but no yeah I'm loving this thing, perfect for bashing because it's so small im surprised it didnt break more, luckily the hobby store near me has all replacement and upgrades in stock. Might make me a legit 1/16 slash build over time.
I LOVE ours! Both kids have em. We rip them all around the yard on little 2200 zee 2s lipos. And I power slide them all over the concrete floor in the shop! Such a fun car.
@@RCTNT yes! Mainly in hard pack dry dusty type dirt. Driving them has certainly forced them to increase driving skills though to keep ‘em off their lid!
Going through your videos since I found your channel. Back when they came out it was fun on the track AFTER installing a center diff, lowering and tuning the shocks, and running 2s for track, 3s for fun, and 4s with semi rubbery grip tires on perfectly smooth pavement. I had the velenion 380 in it. Super frustrating working on it especially the diffs. I wish they had stand up shocks and a more modular design so each repair isn’t a 2 hour exploded view on your table ordeal. I shoulda never sold it. Enjoy
Oh yea the servo and center driveshaft went out quick. We’d run 4s on that poor little esc by putting it on nimh mode lol. Oh yeah and did all metal suspension links. Dang I had too much into that. On a manicured track it was a blast though.
Sounds like an entirely different car with all that work in it! I miss my Stampede with about 1k dropped into it too. I rarely sell my cars and I miss that one.
I once bought a 1/16 Slash for a middle school RC Car club that I run. I chuckled when I watched the first few minutes of your video, because I've always told my students the exact same thing. It is the worst RC car I've ever driven, and I can't believe Traxxas still sells it. Hopelessly high center of gravity, poor tires with no upgrade options, and not even very fast with the 550 motor. I ended up converting ours to a 1/16 ERevo, and putting a cheap Surpass Hobby brushless system in it, and now it's great. But I've always thought Traxxas should drop that car from their lineup. Thanks for the great channel!
I've had to upgrade all of the traxxas vehicles I've had. The only "semi" exception is the traxxas maxx v2. If you put the steel cv shafts on that truck and the 17mm hubs with it. That truck needs nothing else. However that upgrade is $125 usd making a $580 truck into a $705 truck.
Nearly everything fast needs some extras to toughen it up. That's quite normal. I've done this with many cars over the decades, just like you with yours. My point was that the 1/16 Slash is too poorly designed for the effort and expenditure to be worth it, especially when you could either just buy a cheaper 1/16 SCT from another brand or a 1/10 2WD Slash for the same money and go from there. Just disappointment on wheels, this model!
also agree here. i have the maxx V1 & V2. I "upgraded" the V1 to widemaxx with metal cv's and 17mm hubs but on the V2 its stock everything literally and i drive it the most out of all my vehicles and it hasnt broken anything. the only thing i hace replaced is the front and rear disposable skids.
@@DB-qm4jx yep. Only reason I has to do the cv axle upgrade is cause where I live we have whats called crab grass and that stuff gets wrapped around plastic axles and rips them apart. Lol
@@RCTNT ah yeah. I had the 1/16 summit vxl, I put rpm arms, hubs, and knuckles on it and that's all I had to do to it. I didn't run into the same issues as the brushed model. But I believe if I remember correctly it had a smaller motor on it.
I have the same mini slash. I run dual batteries NIMH with there factor connector sold on their website. After about 50 ft...I guess it goes into protection mode? It will stop for no apparent reason on flat ground. At first I thought it was a range issue...transmitter or receiver. I'm pretty sure the ESC would be better in a 1/24 scale. To me it looks as if they had designed it to run dual servos in a push pull configuration. My very 1st upgrade was going to 1/18 buggy tires from the WL toys platform.
Check one of your nimh's, exactly this happened to me too. Turns out if *anything* on traxxas nimh's is broken, the entire battery wont discharge anymore. On my Battery, one cell died and the volts went up to 12.2v, the Esc shuts off for protection
If they'd shipped with wider arrma then perhaps this would have been a different video. But again, wider arms and longer axles to compensate is more money spent on a platform that shouldn't need it. And it'll no longer be a SCT, so why not buy the mini eRevo instead? Battery adapter might add a small amount of resistance to the circuit. If anything, this would lessen strain on the esc, though it may add a little to the battery.
Even if you spend more money and buy the slash vxl 4x4 it still breaks everything and rolls bad. Had to upgrade plastic driveshafts to metal, shock towers, a arms to RPM a arms. It’s the same story with the higher end slash. I would say this is very common with RTR vehicles.
I hear you, but it's not been my experience with the MT10 Rival or the Senton 3S BLX. Minimal changes to both of these and you're set for hard driving. But yes, everything breaks eventually!
Thank you for the brutally honest hard look at these little trucks. Probably the best video anybody's ever done on them. I'm trying to like this thing, I really am. I want to like it. Overall I do like Traxxas stuff, for the most part. So I really wanted to like these. But I just can't. Your demonstration is exactly why. With their size and limited capability, as well as lack of durability/reliability on some key components, I just can't see anywhere that these would be fun. Or useful. That being said, I really like the 4x4 1/10 Slash Ultimate, Slayer Pro, and Unlimited Desert Racer. Significantly more expensive, but I think you get what you pay for. Those are good trucks. But these? There are too many better options in the smaller scale sizes to give the little Slash a second glance. Maybe not a lot of Short Course Trucks like this, but in that size, it wouldn't be too hard to convert something. Would it? I think you have the right idea. Come on, Rlaarlo! get with the program and give us a small Short Course Truck!
I just could have read your comment aloud and demonstrated it driving and it would have been a tidy encapsulation of my thoughts on this model. Nicely put!
@@RCTNT you know what... I missed it untill I rewatched this video today. I very nearly missed it entirely. Shows I wasn't paying close enough attention. These little buggers have the Revo type horizontal cantilever suspension in them! I didn't even see that! I think that style of suspension is really cool. It may not be all that effective in many applications, but it sure looks cool. And in the Revo, it's very smooth in that application. Sadly, it doesn't look like they actually work all that well in this application, though.
It does look cool but they leak and the caps pop off. Probably some metal cap ends would help, but you know, more money to spend. Looks cool though, for sure.
You are absolutely right. It is the worst RC car I’ve ever had. At the time I bought it because I didn’t see any bad reviews on RUclips. I have trouble, deciding whether or not to put money into fixing it when it breaks because it is so bad.
Right?! In the comments here there are one or two with positive experiences with them and I'm happy for them, but they really need to retire this old design and stop taking peoples' money for it.
I've been hearing good things about the latrax cars because their center of gravity is so much better than their larger 1/16 counterparts here. What don't you like about the 1/18 ones?
Don’t listen to anyone who says the latrax pre runner and Teton are good. Unless you like wasting money on virtually every part on it, it’s a complete waste of money. I’ve had an arms break, driveshafts, bulkheads left and right, servo gears too many times to count, and don’t even get me started on that stupid little brushed motor. Burned out 7 of them in 6 months, on stock gearing and with monitoring motor temps quite regularly. And you can tell they tried to make them as cheap as possible by doing crap like not even glueing the tires. No big deal to glue tires, but still. They might be appealing to the beginner, but by the time you waste a bunch of money on this little thing you could’ve just bought something like a brushed rustler which will serve you much better. while every rc needs its upgrades, I’ve never had one as terrible as the Teton was, it honestly makes some Chinese rcs off of Amazon look durable.
Your scathing review makes me want to buy one to test it as if I were new to rc. Could be an interesting video, if the experience is consistent with yours! (Sorry you had a rough time with yours)
It’s very frustrating in this hobby that so many people will tell you how great a vehicle is, “all you have to do is upgrade all these things.” I appreciate your honesty when you say there are better options on the market. And my wallet does too!
Nothing is perfect but there are some truly great cars out of the box that don't need much of anything beyond tuning (Element RC's current range is a great example of this, as is the MT10 Rival and the BRX01, among others) but some cars just really should not still be selling. Especially when it's a big brand people trust. I guess that's where youtube is great :)
Context is the key here - you're not wrong, but the point is that you shouldn't have to do so much with such an expensive model when far cheaper ones simply don't need anywhere near as much work to make them ready to drive durably and well.
I bought one my self yeah it really liked flipping at first and my shocks leaked to but I pulled the shocks off and went through them and found that the cap seals didn’t seat correctly and I refilled them with semi hub oil and haven’t had them leak since and I messed with the shock adjustment a lot and helped tons on rolling and over all handling my only bad issue was a pebble got stuck in the drive shaft well and broke the front drive shaft but oh well
Nice work on the shocks! Great idea, thanks for sharing the info. We had pebbles wreck shafts here too. Metal fixed that, but that meant spending more money on it. I might have a go at cleaning, rebuilding and optimising the shocks. Thanks for the motivation, Tyler!
i have a stampede I dug back out of the parts bin I had when I was like 20 im now 52..its been jumped off 2 story house roofs n it's still got all it's original arms n such i just replaced the original front body mount as it's now brushless n it's still awesome lol.. I think their plastics aren't what they used to be
Their plastics right now are better than what they were 15+ years ago, IMO. However, their plastics of just a few years ago seem to have been superior to what they are right now. If enough people complain, hopefully they'll change back! Cost cutting can be expensive sometimes!
I have the Latrax Prerunner 1/18 scale. It uses those same tires & they definitely suck. I got the same wheels you did & put Alial Yeti Jr. tires on it. They hook up nicely & still slide fairly predictably on pavement. I drive mine mostly on road, kinda like that SUPER STADIUM TRUCK series. I upgraded the stock motor to the Titan 380, & it's a beast. I've burned up 2 by hours of service, that's how much fun it is for me. Next motor mod is the Hobbywing 5400kv brushless system. Should get 35-40 mph.
@RC-TNT Definitely. The Latrax has a right side low mount motor, & left side battery mount, so it's a lot more stable than the high mount 550s on the 1/16th Slash.
Soften up the rear suspension A LOT for the front go about mid way with super light fluid in both it will be perfect. fire problem idk i use a venom 3000mah 2s an never got the esc warm to each their own tho.
Thanks, I did run 30wt and 4hole pistons in the rear. Problem is those shocks leak badly. I'm thinking a nice compact brushless system with a much smaller can size and maybe lower kv to keep temps down, then running on a small 3s battery could be a way to go. I haven't finished with these cars yet, but certainly in stock form they've been pretty awful!
@@RCTNTyeah, that shock leaking... It makes me go insane. Do you have any idea what aftermarket would be good to throw into that thing (preferably ones that dont leak...) ?
@TheGlitch93 this seems a helpful place to start, much as I don't like recommending reddit anymore www.reddit.com/r/Traxxas/comments/q3g1aw/suspension_setup_recommendations_for_116th_erevo/
It's criminal that Traxxas deliberately makes high center of gravity chassis. It's as if they have marketing managers with a degree in art history dictate to the engineers on how to build an RC car.
Haha, it is like that isn't it! Their visual appeal is clear and the unboxing experience is great. Their newer, updated platforms are very good. These older designs, not so much
Traxxas 1/10th are great, as you said. I have not heard to many good things about the 1/16th. I have the 1/18th Latrax models too and they are decent due to the lower price.
Several people in the comments have given similar opinions. 1/18 is good budget fun. 1/16 is disappointment lined with regret and 1/10 is great. Nice. Glad you've enjoyed your latrax!
Nope, my son bought the brushless e-revo and I was against it from the beginning! I love the idea 💡 of it! But it was so fragile!! It would always break at the front of the bulkhead. After replacing the chassis 2X, on the third time he decided to fix it and sell it. Then one day he brought the 1/18 scale Slash 4x4 over, and I was like okay cool. After driving it around for a little while. I decided to buy me one. Now we chase each other around in the streets, playing tag with them! I have killed 3 left suspension arms, and had a total blast doing it!!! We are running them bone stock and using a 2S 2'000 MAH 50C LiPo. They run for a very long time and the pay to play ratio, is money in the bank!!!
I'm really glad you had that experience and I hope mine has been the exception. I have reservations about that being the case, but whatever the common experience with these things, I'm really glad yours has been so positive :)
@@RCTNT the smaller scale 1/18th scale, its the LaTrax Slash 4X4. Those are the fun ones! That we play tag with. The 1/16th scale is way too fragile for anything other than running around on the asphalt. Buy the 1/18th scale is pretty tough for a game of tag.
Ooh right, yes! I forgot about that. Thanks for clarifying again, after I missed it the first time you said it! I can't get that easily in Australia so it didn't come to mind.
I had the brushless version back in the day, can confirm it was far from perfect and not very fun to drive. I considered converting it to the Revo version but sold it instead.
Acknowledge the packaging constraints - esp. if using a full 550 can in that chassis. But that CG is a real shocker! I love my VXL 1/10 2wd Slash - handles well and goes like stink. Only thing is that I believe it was engineered in the brushed era and adding the brushless means it wants to eat itself every outing. If you have one grab first the upgraded driveshafts - 9052X are the best. I went through many, many sets of stock, a few cheap anodized metal sets off ebay but 9052X is definitely the go. You will also need to start upgrading the gearbox as you chew it bit by bit - be mindful on compatibility with the Magnum 272 (unless you buy the whole unit!). The idler gear strips religiously (Robinson Racing hardened one is the go). Great truck though - heaps of parts available. I have heaps of money in mine - and love it - but would stretch to a newer platform if starting from scratch.
Good advice and that matches my own from a recent video with traxxas stuff vs newer stuff. In my case it was a massively upgraded Stampede vs a stock MT10 Rival. Night and day difference!
I geared mine down and added the big monster truck wheels to make it a ‘Monster Slash’ - advice on Traxxas website how to do. Get the wheel and tyre package aftermarket from ebay on the cheap. That AE MT10 gets rave reviews for toughness - enjoyed your vid on that. The Traxxas Maxx also very impressive
@R S love my 4x4 monster slash. Cheep 35kg servo off amazon and loads of fun. The driveshafts do need upgraded if you run 3s a lot. But I usually run 2s and do not have problems with it anymore. It's still one of my favorite rc's. And I have arrma 4s outcast, vortex 4x4 3s, 10th scale buggies and more. All good trucks if upgraded a bit and taken care of. But my old slash still brings a smile to my face everytime.
I think most people are mostly good. But you don't know if you're good until you have the power to be bad for your own advantage and get away with it. That's when you know! And it starts small, but it's a slippery slope. I have to be honest here. I can't afford not to be.
You could have gone with a small 2845 brushless motor. Much less weight and still plenty of power for a car of that size. Maybe something with 5000 + - kv. Plenty on 2s.
My first RC mini t 2.0 losi then bought a 1/16 slash vxl tipped over a bunch then bought a 1/10 slash brushed too slow then bought a 4tec 2.0 vxl too fast lol then now have a 1/16 erevo vxl building up bought as a roller still got all except the mini t 2.0 losi I didn’t know how to work on it wish I’ve kept it sold it for 25$ when it costed me 160$ plus batteries close to 200$ lol and sold for 25$ dammmm
I feel for you. I sold my completely transformed 4S Stampede VXL to Slash conversion for $160 and it had about $1300 in it. At least the buyer got a great deal, same with your Losi. Life goes on!
Got a slash ultimate from someone on marketplace with proline wheels and 3s traxxas battery and charger it absolutely rips and my backyard is a bit bumpy so I want a non low center of gravity version and I saw this and thank you sir I’m just gonna get a regular 1/10th slash
Happy to help! I've got a 1/10 slash 4x4 VXL in a box here to test in April. I've had the Stampede 4x4 VXL before so I think I know roughly what to expect, but that was a decade ago. Looking forward to seeing this one and how it compares to the Senton BXL 3S and the HPI Jumpshot I just reviewed (that video posts in a week or so from now). SCTs are fun :)
Dude! Sweet video! Very well done. Not bashing Traxxas just telling your experience. I bought one of these like 8 months ago now and it’s still completely stock. I haven’t broken anything on except for an aftermarket street wheel by hitting a wall. I will say that tiny rocks do get stuck in the driveshafts and my main rear drive shaft will be giving out so because of that but still holding so far. You got a new subscriber here!
Oh cool, I'm really glad you enjoyed this. I'm even more happy you're enjoying your mini slash, it is my hope for all owners of these vehicles that my experience was the exception rather than the norm!
@@RCTNT It seems that your experience is the exception. I've been thinking about using a GoolRC system in a couple of my cars. looks like it does the job.
There were more than a few commenters on this video with similar or more scathing opinions. In any case, it's putting a smile on your face and that's really all that matters! Enjoy :)
I have many traxxas cars. No hate club here. I'm a very satisfied owner for the most part. The Stampede VXL 4x4 was a money pit and these 1/16 Slash XL5s suuuuck. I'm also quite disappointed about the asbestos situation with the 5222x slipper from 2002 to 2023. I've surely breathed a lot of that. But otherwise I'm pretty happy, yeah.
Traxxas do have a few great models. I'd put the 2wd XL5 models on the list, the TRX4, Xmaxx and UDR on the list at least. I don't miss my Stampede 4x4 VXL though, that's for sure.
That's a great car, by all accounts. Different esc to this one too, and the smaller velineon motor means better center of gravity. Larger wheels, too. Good car. Shame the slash wasn't as well.
The VXL is brushless, yep. It's the 380 Velineon motor, so it's physically smaller than the 550 brushed Titan in the xl2.5 variant I have here. The Velineon esc handles 3s ok, as long as you watch motor temps and max current draw. Lighter weight, lower cog and thus a much better car. The brushed one I showed in my video is a failure of design and should not have been made like this, I think. Thankfully, it's the exception rather that the norm for traxxas, who generally are making reasonably great cars, particularly the newer designs that are not just revamps of the same tired designs from last decade!
I am looking at the E-Revo for a 1/16 scale. I have the 1/10 scale Bandit and Slash Ultimate. The Bandit went through a total transformation and is a BEAST . The Ultimate got the usual upgrades, but nothing Radical. My idea on the 1/16 scale was just to run with my Grandson and his Slash. The Nickle Hydride batteries are CRAP on these vehicles.
The Mini eRevo is meant to be pretty good. However, you've got a lot of traxxas already and you may find there's a better vehicle for similar money that performs vastly better and runs like a dream: LC Racing EMB-T. I haven't made a video on it yet but have run it for two years now and it is INCREDIBLE. If you've only had traxxas, you're in for a treat with this thing. I do discuss and show it in the first 3 minutes of this video, near the start, so you can see what I'm talking about: ruclips.net/video/BoG9Q0_X9wA/видео.html
@RCTNT I have two Axial vehicles as well as a Tamya Terra Crusher ( Nitro). I have a knack for fixing broken things or buying other people's RC outcasts. I started out getting into RC Planes, but have explored many types of RC, including boats, Drones, Tracked vehicles and enjoy them all. Sadly, I cannot leave well enough alone so I am always upgrading whatever it is I get.
Seems like the way Traxxas designed the motor position is the reason why it flips so much. I've seen Tamiya Grasshoppers handle way better than that and those barely a step above toy grade
I got the 1/10 slash amd it's my favorite car the only bad part that breaks often other than the drive shafts if u dont upgrade them is the spurr gear but their cheap only 3$
I'm glad you're enjoying yours. The spur gear really shouldn't be breaking on you, even with 3S brushless power. I suspect your gear mesh isn't set tight enough. Get that motor up snug, so the pinion is really close to the spur without pressing on it. You want to be able to wiggle the spur gear with your finger and have it ever so slightly move back and forth, just the tiniest amount. No more than that. Get that done right and this will be the last spur gear you'll need for quite some time! The 1/10 Slash is a great car. I'm glad you like yours regardless, I do too! Cheers
thanks for reinforcing my distain for little clunky junk 😂 I I bought a wp 1/16 Toyota n when it works i like it.. but 1/10 n 1/8th is my happy place lol.. 1/24 will never happen 😂 love your honesty n great love of rc... best channel out here in my opinion!!!
Thanks Bill! There is some truly epic stuff in the smaller scale. TBR rlaarlo models surprised me with their value and the LC Racing EMB-T is quite honestly incredible. But I do get the preference for larger scales, and I think most would agree. (Still, the EMB-T may just change your mind, you never know)
We've had no issues with ours ,I suspect you didn't set esc for lipo, required, and it doesn't take two lipos, read carefully only 2 nickel metal, yes tires suck
Definitely set for Lipo but for one of two I did have the 2 in parallel. Kept to one on the second, but it flamed too. 2 lipos in parallel does not increase voltage, however, just available potential. Both were small batteries, it shouldn't have made a difference - but higher discharge potential alone could certainly blow a circuit if it already had low tolerances. Again though, the second one flamed even with just one battery - the same capacity and discharge rating battery as the Traxxas brand one, for that matter. Maybe we just had a bad batch or something, I dunno!
I share your frustration. I owned one and it was difficult to drive. I was fun in the rain. I owned the rally version, but it was also hard to drive. I have seen some good reviews of 1/16 brushed E Revo. It has the big tires and it may be wider. I think it sells for about two hundred U.S. dollars. If you could borrow a 1/16 brushed E Revo and test it, it might be an interesting comparison.
They're really hard to get now but they're definitely the one to get, of the two. Of course, the LC Racing EMB-T is the correct answer here for quality, performance and longevity, if we're comparing!
I disagree, but you're kinda right. The tires are better but they don't fit well under the SCT body and the other issues with the cars remain. There are simply better cars out there than these, IMO. But, that is just my opinion and if a wheel swap has worked for you, more power to you :) If it's fun, you're doing it right!
Mine both caught fire on 2s. And they were USD$270 (I'm in Australia. This past year I've really started to appreciate just how cheap Traxxas cars are in the USA). It was a good deal when they were released. But after so many years, I expect an updated design that addresses some key weaknesses.
Hey, that's a great idea for RLAARLO! Hope they come though! Speaking of which, did you know that LC Racing also has an SC RTR? And that you can get one of their buggy kits and with some spare parts make it into the SC, so an awesome kit SC? I think you could... should... would(?) make a great series of videos for the channel and give some credit, for a brand that is not as common on the internets, but I think it totally deserves it! I love my PTG2R!! Shame on Traxxas for having such a poor performer and built RC still in production... Maybe they know and increased the price to that level so no one would buy it? I really can't make sense of any of it... hmm.
Surprised you have as much trouble as you do I got one that's stock other then the electronics and it's 2 years old only maintenance i do is change bearings and it has a 3660 hobbywing brushless motor and arrma granite esc I run it on 3s steady never broken a shaft diff or servo arms have failed on huge jumps 15ft high plus other then that they last
You're surprised I'm having trouble with handling, with the high centre of gravity from that big heavy 550 motor, the unreliable ESC and fire on 2S problem? You've replaced your motor and ESC with a more appropriate system to the car. That's the root of most of my issues. If you'd kept yours stock, you may face the same issues I have. Your power system weighs less than OEM gear too, which would lower stress on the servo and drive train. Lower weight means greater durability. I guess the main point here is that we shouldn't need to replace the electronics for it to be ok. It's priced at a premium and same as the 1/10 2wd Slash. That makes it an easy choice, doesn't it? Cheers
i have 4 slash and love them all your crazy man its the best SCT on the market but you have to upgrade them to brushless, but i have no idea what the 1/16 is like i have 10th scale
The 1/16 Slash is the same as the 1/10 Slash in the same way a tofu jelly blob is the same as a waigu steak. Don't call me crazy about this opinion until you've tried a 1/16 Slash. They are awful. The 1/10 Slash, meanwhile, is excellent - as I said multiple times in the video :)
I was laughing I’m not sure what to say. I actually looked at this model more then one time because it looked & seemed cool a little slash how could you go wrong. Glad you spoke the truth about it to warn others. From my experience basher type RC’s or anything that is fast above 20 mph is going to break & more then likely a lot if your using it. Not abusing just regular use. I’m a crawler RC enthusiast but sooner or later you get hooked on the speed of bashers. I drive my bashers not even half as hard as you see in videos & My Fireteam Mojave Lasernut & Senton 550 are all sitting broken. I’ve learned that’s just how they are. The thing is you invest to upgrade whatever broke & then something else breaks.
Hm I hear you, but there are several cars I have here that don't break every run. I have yet to break the MT10 Rival at all, for example, and you've watched me send that one to the moon multiple times! Some cars need more TLC than others to keep them bashing, they're not created equal. But yes, drive anything hard and it'll break eventually!
I almost ordered one of these by accident for my son as I was looking at it in my cart I was like wait it says 1/16 so decided to go to the hobby shop and was glad because his 2wd slash performs great but I bought myself a 4x4 senton used for less then his and it's a blast they both are but the senton is lightning fast since it runs 3s so glad I didn't order this
Yepp most of the times cheap isn't cheap at the end that's why i bought the rustler as my starter rc car and to circumwent me being a loser and buy a shitton of parts marked up which hobby shops do i started with the highest version avaliable today which is the vxl model.
To me, any R/C vehicle that you have to immediately upgrade to make it usable is a POC. I mean, if you're buying a toy grade banggood special for $40 ok, but if you're paying $200 USD ($260 cdn) you should be able to bash and rip that thing nicely out of the box. I mean if you pull a KT and send it to the moon and break things, ok, but if you're just messing around in your backyard that's a big fail IMO.
1/10 traxxas slash 2wd on the dirt jumps is so much fun, concrete tarmac, traxxas make an on road car that doesnt flip for that :) slash is for dirt :) its awesome, i love them
I have mine from ten years ago. The handling is terrible but the durability makes up for it. Just put some wider wheels on it. Yeah the electric ms some times are shit and so are the servos. All brands have there short comings.
My feelings too. Problem is, a 1/10 2wd slash is the same price already. Add in the need for those wider wheels, new servo and new ESC and you've now spent enough to really trick out your 2wd 1/10 Slash, and it'll be a far better car than the upgraded 1/16 Slash. And that's my point :)
@@RCTNT lol this is true. But it’s just a cute little guy! My Scx24 is now worth about 600$ with all the upgrades so it’s a matter of preference and perspective. I could have a full size trx4 for that price right? But again it’s just so damn cute lol!
That platform is the mini erevo platform. If you put a center diff in some versions of it then it’s one of the best rc cars ever. You definitely got a dud and of course we all know traxxas brushed electronics suck. It’s too bad they have let QC get so bad and they shouldn’t sell that version with tiny wheels and short arms.
Center diff, smaller brushless motor for less weight and better CoG, ESC to match, stronger servo, longer arms, longer axles and then larger wheels. Body to suit. Total money spent is then well over the LC Racing EMB-T or similar, which would run rings around even the Mini eRevo, legendary as that old banger is! So, you're right, buuuut Traxxas and $$ mean it just isn't worth it. Oh well :)
actually..theyre terrible because traxxas are expensive...today,i bet everybody is getting their hands on the HBX 16889a pro 1/16....which was said simply indestructible..and the best part....its cheap.
Well, maybe. Traxxas is adept at marketing, to be sure. But their newer stuff is pretty good. These little cars are bad for reasons discussed in the video, but many traxxas models really aren't too bad at all, and some are great. Expensive doesn't mean bad, even if the value isn't as good as with cheaper models. I haven't heard of HBX, I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the tip!
right off the rip having the motor mounted SO high how could there NOT be an issue with roll over? I saw a video just the other day of a portly man (ok, OBESE lol) standing on his porch and he falls down the stairs and wipes out on the grass "what happened" "I dunno" well, the high cog and tiny feet and the 500 trips to the all you can eat pasta bar.......were the issue lol....
Sorry to hear it. I have a feeling they had a bad batch of them, honestly. I said 2014 in my video but after looking it up, it was 2019. In any case, no more XL2.5 ESCs for this guy!
@RC-TNT yeah, kinda irritated by it but it is what it is. I'm trying wheel spacers for 9 bucks to see how it helps stability. I have a feeling it will be similar to the sway bars
I'd agree! We've done a lot with ours, including some serious abuse on concrete: ruclips.net/video/sxdU4srxvE8/видео.html But that's way bigger than these little cars, which are small enough to fit 3 on the Senton, sideways, with space to spare!
@@RCTNT Yeah, just skip the small RC stuff from Traxxas. Even their 1/10 SCT Is not that good. I think that the Senton is better. The smaller E Revo is only good for 2s maximum. Unless you want to spend a whole bunch of money for it not to fall apart on 3s. Not worth it! That's what I've seen on videos de at least I only have the Xmaxx and XRT from Traxxas. I love both. After those two models, I don't like anything else from Traxxas for bashing.
I've got some of their bigger stuff too. No question their newer models are a lot better than this previous generation of vehicles. I haven't had a Sledge yet but I expect that'll be quite good too. The bigger stuff certainly is!
buy the arrma. i have a 10yr old granite castle powered has not broke a part yet its the 1st gen with ladder frame aluminum? tough tough stuff my senton is just as tough
Having driven a mini eRevo I totally get it. But I don't want to spend that extra money on longer shafts, longer arms and bigger wheels, then a stronger servo, and then a smaller brushless motor, etc etc. Prefer to put all that cash towards a car I know I'll run more already :) Even the Rlaarlo XDKJ-005 Truggy with its $80 brushless conversion, for example. So much cheaper in the first instance than the Traxxas and just superior performance all round. You're not wrong, I agree with you. But it's just a shame this is needed to get out to drive well, given the price. Not complaining here, just comparing to what else is out there. It's why I recommended the 1/10 2wd XL5 slash. Same money, way more fun and performance :)
If it was that simple I would have by now! They're not worth the trouble of different arms, axles, wheels, bodies etc but I agree they'd be a much better car for the changes!
@@RCTNT I went the easy route and bought an SCT and just put some monster wheels on it :D Oh, had to change the gearing to compensate. The SCT body with large chrome rims and knobbly rubber makes the little boy inside me smile 😀
You've won races with the 1/16 Slash? I wouldn't mind hearing more about your 1/16 racing. Didn't know there was much of a scene for that scale in SCT.
11:30 What's your address? I'm going to send you a stiff bristle push broom for your "track" lol..... (what's with this guy constantly on my arse about my track? where's the unfriend button hahahaha)
Where do you drive it? Love to hear more! What do you like about it? Not a lot of people are fans of the 1/16 Slash so I'd definitely be interested in hearing more :) Cheers
@@RCTNT in the back of my neighborhood there's a huge construction site and we made a short course track in some dirt and gravel and we race around it, it's "satisfying" if you will, to drive the small one verses a bigger one. Idk why, also it's honestly more fun to do it at slower speeds. I have a 3s Senton and it's just too fast for any sort of track 😂
The xmaxx and trx4 sport would like a word with you on that comment! But these little Slashes are definitely worse than many of the Traxxas offerings. I want to like them, but man they don't make it easy!
Well I hear you, but I've had a lot of the tenth scale traxxas stuff and while I understand where you're coming from, the mini slash stands alone in poor design!
My 10 th scale breaks with every battery almost got me out of rc Then I went arrma there is no looking back. I bought every heavy duty parts available and it still broke with ease I beat the snot out of my Armas and ime out 26 bucks my fault 🤔😔👍
Oh sure, I get you. I've had similar experiences to you, as I've discussed in previous videos. The Senton 3s BLX and the Associated MT10 Rival may be some of the toughest models out of the box I've ever driven. All traxxas gear other than the xmaxx pale in comparison.
Nice, I'm happy for you 🙂 Like I said in the video, they're not bad per se, but enough things are a let-down that it's already a challenging model to like. Add on the price, at least in Australia, and it's just ridiculous. I want to see traxxas update or retire the brushed version of the 1/16. My full opinion is explained in the video so I don't need to go over it again. Honestly, I'm glad you're happy with yours. That's really all that matters!
Thanks, both have been fixed and upgraded. But they still have the same underlying problems and they're just not fun to drive compared to pretty much anything else, even the cheap stuff. At least they're making themselves useful as video content, lol!
That's quite a feat for a model that was released 14 years ago :p But I'm glad you've enjoyed yours. This video was about a different model. The Velineon variant had the smaller motor and lighter weight, meaning lower center of gravity and lower mass. That meant better handling and better durability. Unfortunately, the brushed version was a combination of being too heavy, too top-heavy in particular, too slow and not durable enough. They took a risk with the giant 550 motor up top and I think it did not pay off. The brushless version is a different story :)
No worries! I don't know how the cost works out for you but if you like 1/16 and want a SCT, LC Racing stuff is seriously good. Have a look at this one (no affiliate link, just direct to one I'm considering getting myself) : RC Car LC RACING EMB-SCH a.aliexpress.com/_mPuabHy
But with a handful of new stock parts and that driving philosophy in the right hands it's pretty damn good compared to "any" Tamiya at the same price point lol
Thanks again for sharing your experience.👍
Love that you describe then show the issue in action and share a solution in action. Great vid
Thanks :)
The reason the esc caught fire is because you have to switch it from nimh to lipo, it’s on nimh from the factory
@@RCTNT Good to hear you knew that, I almost didnt switch the modes once and this is what I imgine happening. 👍
Glad you got your fun out of it. No problems here with the diffs. Cheers
So far I have found out that the remo hobby 1/16 trucks with a little bigger tires is the best. $60truck+$20 tires=tons of fun 😊
And I can run it on 3s🥳
Makes thread cars look even worse value. I'll do more with Reno this year, I think.
Oh great, I really hope that makes it far from "The Worst Car in the World" for you! Happy bashing :)
That's great! The 1/16 part anyway. I'm really glad you're getting so much out of it. That's how it's supposed to be :)
@@RCTNT Wow. I didnt know that was a problem w lipos and motors!, they need to replace that model. Can I ask you your opinion on the Letrax Prerunner?
Well, you may find good value with these options over the Traxxas, they're popular for good reason:
H16BM amzn.to/3KOIxHu
H14BM amzn.to/3KKwew3
There's also the original, big name company who designed the platform from which so many have copied: LC Racing. I have their EMB-T and it's just an incredible machine. amzn.to/3Xulfi1
I don't know about their availability and you can probably buy two MJX vehicles for the price of one LC Racing model. In any case these are all worthy vehicles. If you like the mini erevo, these will impress.
poor slash, does not get much love from you 🤣
The regular slash, sure. This thing. At least, the brushed 550 model? Lol no, no it does not.
@@RCTNTlol
Awesome. I'm really glad you're enjoying them. That's what it's all about!
@@RCTNT yes! Mainly in hard pack dry dusty type dirt. Driving them has certainly forced them to increase driving skills though to keep ‘em off their lid!
I think these cars go best on hard surfaces, yeah. Sounds like just the ticket for your area. Really glad you're enjoying them.
Heh yes, not ideal is it!
I love that you run an RC club at school, that is such a good idea!
@@RCTNT Thank you! We watch your videos.👍
Awesome, I appreciate it.
The dual servos are for the eRevo with its bigger wheels.
Your issue is likely the esc, I agree. It's under powered for the platform.
Check one of your nimh's, exactly this happened to me too. Turns out if *anything* on traxxas nimh's is broken, the entire battery wont discharge anymore. On my Battery, one cell died and the volts went up to 12.2v, the Esc shuts off for protection
They just need erevo arms to be more stable. I imagine the adapter you were running on that battery put extra strain on the esc.
My friend has one of those and his ESC has been fine, he even ran over volted it, it coped (RIP the motor though, that thing smelt crap)
This and the traxxas prerunner ....
No different than buying a real car & upgrading engine, diff, trans, clutch, cooling system. This is just smaller. Forgot wheels & tires etc.
Wow, that sounds pretty good! Thanks for taking us through what you've done. I'm glad you're getting your value from it!
@RC-TNT
That's in addition to 2 stock Latrax motors before I discovered the Titan 380's.
Would have been a nice upgrade after the first 2, I'll bet!
@RC-TNT Definitely. The Latrax has a right side low mount motor, & left side battery mount, so it's a lot more stable than the high mount 550s on the 1/16th Slash.
A much better design, no question! They could have have that back in 2009 with this thing. Oh well. Glad yours is a winner!
@TheGlitch93 this seems a helpful place to start, much as I don't like recommending reddit anymore
www.reddit.com/r/Traxxas/comments/q3g1aw/suspension_setup_recommendations_for_116th_erevo/
Good call!

I have to be honest here. I can't afford not to be.
You could have gone with a small 2845 brushless motor. Much less weight and still plenty of power for a car of that size. Maybe something with 5000 + - kv. Plenty on 2s.
You're not wrong, but the center of gravity would still be too high. It would help a bit though, yeah!

Enjoy :)
Poor Traxxas, some people have started a hate club against it, it’s not all that bad (not referring to you)
I have many traxxas cars.
I have 2 traxxas and stampede and an emaxx. Both were free. I don’t think I’ll ever get another traxxas.
Traxxas do have a few great models. I'd put the 2wd XL5 models on the list, the TRX4, Xmaxx and UDR on the list at least. I don't miss my Stampede 4x4 VXL though, that's for sure.
If you liked the 1/16th erevo you would like the Hosim Q903 brushless.
I love my LC racing Truggy, that's for sure!
Love my 1/16 E-revo vxl, works great on the 2200 mah traxxas lipo
That's a great car, by all accounts. Different esc to this one too, and the smaller velineon motor means better center of gravity. Larger wheels, too. Good car. Shame the slash wasn't as well.
@@RCTNT I believe traxxas makes a brushless vxl 1/16 slash that has the same 3s capable esc and motor
@@RCTNT I agree traxxas makes some great cars but they sometimes come up short in certain area’s, that’s why I also have 5 arrmas lol 😆
Heh I love my Arrmas too, no doubt!
I do discuss and show it in the first 3 minutes of this video, near the start, so you can see what I'm talking about:
ruclips.net/video/BoG9Q0_X9wA/видео.html
@RCTNT I have two Axial vehicles as well as a Tamya Terra Crusher ( Nitro). I have a knack for fixing broken things or buying other people's RC outcasts. I started out getting into RC Planes, but have explored many types of RC, including boats, Drones, Tracked vehicles and enjoy them all. Sadly, I cannot leave well enough alone so I am always upgrading whatever it is I get.
Oh right! You are definitely the only person who does that. None other of us here do anything like that. Nope.
That's disappointing. Local indoor track has a 2WD Slash 2S spec class and I was thinking of buying one and trying it. Catching on fire would be bad.
That 2wd 2s slash class would be a blast. Definitely consider that!
Seems like the way Traxxas designed the motor position is the reason why it flips so much. I've seen Tamiya Grasshoppers handle way better than that and those barely a step above toy grade
Nice observation. Yes indeed, silly high center of gravity on these!
Cheers
@@RCTNT I only really have a problem sripping spurs when I'm running my paddles but I know how to mesh the spurr and the pinion
Oh right, that's quite different to the talons or whatever slippy oem tire on the slash! Fair enough, lol!
thanks for reinforcing my distain for little clunky junk 😂 I I bought a wp 1/16 Toyota n when it works i like it.. but 1/10 n 1/8th is my happy place lol..
You should review the fy08 4x4 and brushless
Thanks, I'm aware of that one. May do, if I can get it for a reasonable price in Australia here
Cheers
All you had to do is put the mini erevo tires on that and no more roll overs
I disagree, but you're kinda right. The tires are better but they don't fit well under the SCT body and the other issues with the cars remain. There are simply better cars out there than these, IMO. But, that is just my opinion and if a wheel swap has worked for you, more power to you :) If it's fun, you're doing it right!
I run 2s all day long... I have replaced allot of parts but what did you expect for 200 bucks?
I really can't make sense of any of it... hmm.
PS: I bet this video will have a lot of views!
Ooh cool, I must look into that. Thanks!
"worst rc" and "traxxas" is a winning combination on RUclips, you're likely correct there :)
I almost ordered one of these by accident for my son as I was looking at it in my cart I was like wait it says 1/16 so decided to go to the hobby shop and was glad because his 2wd slash performs great but I bought myself a 4x4 senton used for less then his and it's a blast they both are but the senton is lightning fast since it runs 3s so glad I didn't order this
Sounds like you got the best rigs fot the job! You dodged a bullet with this model!
Right on.
This is probably better than my Traxxa$ Ultimate 4x4 which only runs for 5 minutes :)
Aw that doesn't sound too good! Maybe it's getting sent too hard? (lol I kid, I kid)
@@RCTNT :)
Yeah do way better on brushlessset up
1/10 traxxas slash 2wd on the dirt jumps is so much fun, concrete tarmac, traxxas make an on road car that doesnt flip for that :) slash is for dirt :) its awesome, i love them
For sure, they're a brilliant fun machine. Love the 1/10 Slash :)
Haha I really get it, that's cool. If it puts a smile on your face, you're doing it right :)
Oh well :)
@@RCTNT totally agree!
Bought 2 for my kids and couldn't agree more.
Thanks. It was a bummer when you first realised it, too, I bet. Sure was for us!
I thought these are just e-revos with a slash body
And smaller wheels, shorter arms and axles. All adds up to make a very different vehicle
actually..theyre terrible because traxxas are expensive...today,i bet everybody is getting their hands on the HBX 16889a pro 1/16....which was said simply indestructible..and the best part....its cheap.
She's a bit portly up top, yeah! Good imagery.
@@RCTNT you be careful, I'll send you a link they you might want to remove the "good imagery" comment lol
NOOOO MY EYES!!!! arrrgh lol
You have a Lc Racng truggy, guess you have a way better tim with than with this tiny Slash...
100% yes, it's night and day. So, so much better. The EMB-T is a wonder.
Got one. NIMH battery flamed my ESC on my very first start up of it ):
Sorry to hear it. I have a feeling they had a bad batch of them, honestly. I said 2014 in my video but after looking it up, it was 2019. In any case, no more XL2.5 ESCs for this guy!
@RC-TNT yeah, kinda irritated by it but it is what it is. I'm trying wheel spacers for 9 bucks to see how it helps stability. I have a feeling it will be similar to the sway bars
Definitely could help with stability, but not with clearance. Best of luck with it!
@@RCTNT update, wheel spacers did the trick. Still rolls but not nearly as much
Oh nice! Well done and thanks for the update!
Meh, if you want a small reliable SCT, I would go for the 4x4 Arrma Senton 3s 👍
I'd agree! We've done a lot with ours, including some serious abuse on concrete: ruclips.net/video/sxdU4srxvE8/видео.html
But that's way bigger than these little cars, which are small enough to fit 3 on the Senton, sideways, with space to spare!
It’s most definitely 2s capable
You'd think, wouldn't you.
Why on earth would you buy a 1/16 slash. Ever.
Well, I've gotta imagine it could happen to anyone if they weren't subscribed to RC-TNT!
Got my sub. you goofy lil aussie!
buy the arrma. i have a 10yr old granite castle powered has not broke a part yet its the 1st gen with ladder frame aluminum? tough tough stuff my senton is just as tough
I have several aarmas here and they're great!
Yeah not a big fan the Slash so I could imagine how horrible this little thing is 😆 Thanks for the info though 👍🏻
The full size slash is considerably better than these little failcars
convert it to a 1/16 revo it handels better
Having driven a mini eRevo I totally get it. But I don't want to spend that extra money on longer shafts, longer arms and bigger wheels, then a stronger servo, and then a smaller brushless motor, etc etc. Prefer to put all that cash towards a car I know I'll run more already :)
Even the Rlaarlo XDKJ-005 Truggy with its $80 brushless conversion, for example.
Dear Kangarookisser, Thank you!
He's right, It's trash.
😂
Put some revo ties on it and make it a monster slash. Way more fun.
If it was that simple I would have by now! They're not worth the trouble of different arms, axles, wheels, bodies etc but I agree they'd be a much better car for the changes!
Short course trucks with monster wheels are epic in general.
@@RCTNT just tires and trim body
Have built such a thing before. Converted a brushless Stampede 4x4 to a slash and kept the trenchers on. It was indeed epic!
@@RCTNT I went the easy route and bought an SCT and just put some monster wheels on it :D Oh, had to change the gearing to compensate. The SCT body with large chrome rims and knobbly rubber makes the little boy inside me smile 😀
Lipo settings on esc
Was set to lipo. That invokes LVC, but it has no bearing on the thermal failure of the MOSFET array. That straight up should not happen!
Ya the tittle guys don't handle like it's big brother
Lol that's one way of putting it :)
Wow that’s crazy
Mine work fine with 2s
Good to hear!
Not
Lol you got a worse one (hobby grade, relatively high price for poor execution like the 1/16 Slash here)? Love to know!
I've won lots of races with the traxxas its definitely your lack of skills mate 😆
You've won races with the 1/16 Slash? I wouldn't mind hearing more about your 1/16 racing. Didn't know there was much of a scene for that scale in SCT.
Love my Slash.
Awesome. I'm guessing it's a 1/10 if you love it (?)
Different car and vastly better. We'll get one on the channel soon, I think.
Thanks for the info 👍
No worries, thank you for watching my videos :)

Nicely put, thanks for painting a picture there. I'm really glad you've enjoyed yours, that's great!
👍👍👍
Traxxas has never been known for quality. They've always had some of the coolest looking cars, but have never been very good performing.
The xmaxx and trx4 sport would like a word with you on that comment! But these little Slashes are definitely worse than many of the Traxxas offerings. I want to like them, but man they don't make it easy!
I think the same of 10 th scale is the same garbage.
Does test on tiny truck on pasement and grass. Get on the dirt duude 🤦♂️
I've had these for something like 7 years now. They work better on smooth dirt, sure. But they still should be better.
There not worst car in the world you just got unlucky
Twice.
@@RCTNT I have same car red and black it works just fine I got it at a pawn shop
Nice, I'm happy for you 🙂
Like I said in the video, they're not bad per se, but enough things are a let-down that it's already a challenging model to like. Add on the price, at least in Australia, and it's just ridiculous. I want to see traxxas update or retire the brushed version of the 1/16. My full opinion is explained in the video so I don't need to go over it again.
Honestly, I'm glad you're happy with yours. That's really all that matters!
@@RCTNT yes hope your get fix soon 😊👌
Thanks, both have been fixed and upgraded. But they still have the same underlying problems and they're just not fun to drive compared to pretty much anything else, even the cheap stuff.
At least they're making themselves useful as video content, lol!
I’ve had my slash 4x4 1/16 Brushless for about over 20 Years never a problem.
That's quite a feat for a model that was released 14 years ago :p
But I'm glad you've enjoyed yours.
And theres the video ive been waiting for. Really thought about getting one. Thanks buddy 👍🏻
No worries! I don't know how the cost works out for you but if you like 1/16 and want a SCT, LC Racing stuff is seriously good. Have a look at this one (no affiliate link, just direct to one I'm considering getting myself) :
