Today we take another look at the worst beauty videos over on TikTok! I know a lot of you don't have TikTok so... I've bought the awfulness to you!
Including the dangerous world of illegal 'black henna', a nail appointment that ended in disaster, influencers being asked to lie about their sponsorships and one of the main reasons I HATE ice rollers!
I misread "illegal Shein enema" instead of henna, and the most concerning thing is that I wasn't even excessively surprised.
😂😂😂
Omg 😂😂
That would be a nightmare
@@kodamaspirit9298 this made me laugh out loud 🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂
As someone who's grown up in a culture that uses henna for hair and skin SHEIN henna sounds absolutely crazy to me. Although I rarely use it my mom always told me how important it is to make sure that the henna isn't "fake", and make sure to read the ingredients. She only bought henna from specific shops to avoid the fake stuff because of the dangers that come along with it.
Cool mum.
If you're going to take a risk like that at LEAST do a spot test in an inconspicuous area. I can't say I would ever put a product from one of these sites on my skin let alone my face but if I REALLY wanted to, I would test it and give it at least an hour to see if there's a reaction... Before putting it on my *face* 😭 not victim blaming, it's just an awful way to learn.
Also if you're ordering from Shein at least get their branded products. They DO sell their own stuff (Sheglam is actually really popular, a lot of people like it, couldn't tell you myself.) But I guarantee this is not one of their products. The top right corner will say "Marketplace" when it's from one of these sellers that has the same stuff that is on Temu, Amazon, etc etc. Shein at least has a reputation to protect with their own products, because their worst nightmare as a brand would be a TikTok of THAT going viral. On the other hand these random marketplace sellers just have dropshipped/private labeled stuff that they bear zero responsibility for.
It's like how Amazon has their own brand of stuff. A safer bet, the best bet being a reputable seller who deserves your money. Though I doubt either company has henna.
Also sure
@@LunarEleven I honestly think people need to just stop buying anything make up or skin related products from Shein all together. Like it is not worth the risk of damaging your skin and the stress, potential pain and cost that comes with that. The girls in the video looked like they wanted fake freckles and you can just use eyeliner, an eyebrow pencil or an actual freckle pen.
Oh my God same! Now we have a plant at home from where we take henna. It's progressively getting difficult to get the real henna
Girl made DIY nail polish remover with Pink Stuff, hydrogen peroxide, and rubbing alcohol mixed together?!??!! NOOO!!! Don’t mix chemicals together like that…EVER. Girl was a few steps away from making chemical warfare agent.
I think she actually did make a chemical agent that's banned she just didn't make chlorine gas or anything else
I was just watching the anxiety in James’s face as she was describing that concoction 😂
*mustard gas has entered the chat*
There's the dollar stores and 5 below for a reason 😔
you ever feel silly goofy and accidentally break the Geneva convention
Past nail tech here. I can tell you exactly what happened with her. Those are plastic tips that are white that are used to extend the tip. They are usually clear but you can buy colored or white ones. The reason they look awful is I'm willing to bet that she has VERY short nail beds. So when they apply the tips with glue they have to be on the nail, which if the nail bed is short ends up looking like that. French tips for nails that are very short and bitten should either be done with white acrylic or with gel polish after the extensions are done. AND they should not be that long either for short beds. You can see through them because on top of everything else they didn't build the apex up properly. It was probably a brand new nail tech that was only taught one way to do french tips.
I was thinking the same thing she had short beds and they used white tips instead of clear and painting them on I'm sure whoever did them was newer if they took as long as she said cuz a pro would have a French Panted and acrylic layered in half the time.
She did say she chewed her cuticles and her nails, so it makes sense.
Her DIY nail polish remover???? Girl what, that made my jaw DROPPPP
fr like just use nail polish remover, cotton buds and foils like a normal person 😭
Nail polish remover is a dollar at most department stores. It’s not worth making you own 😵💫
Right? Just go to the store!
They don't disclouse because they want to seem genuine when they are actually being underhanded and greedy.
100%. It’s such a bizarre approach to me. Appear genuine by not being genuine?!
You just know that a person who genuenly loves a product wouldn't be so scared to disclose working with the brand that makes it.
@@JamesWelsh because people will literally skip the whole "ad" if there is wording that it is an AD. So I think they just do that so people will watch their videos, so more brands will see their "reach". Also, so the effort they put on the vid will not go to waste because people skip the video. 🤔
@@JamesWelsh I wonder if they get buried in the algorithm too
Ice roller burn looks like what happens when you lick a metal pole in the winter
I think that’s what happened to her 😭
I got Dumb And Dumber vibes straight away too!
Yeah her face had to have been wet
That's basically what it is 💀😭
yeah pretty much reminded me of that one video that a guy had his tongue stuck to the pole
Lab muffin recently did quite a fun video on the usefullness of spray-on-sunscreens ☺️ Conclusion was that it doesn’t give even coverage at all and that indeed most of the sunscreen gets lost in the air and never reaches your skin. It also gets on your clothes and basically everywhere else other than where you actually need it 😂
People don't understand this and don't understand that even with a hand held personal bottle of sunscreen you're still supposed to use your hands to wipe it around on the skin. The droplets don't cover 100% of the sk8n surface, if you don't spread it out, it is leaving areas uncovered. No spray applies that evenly and no one sprays a whole wet layer. I used an spf +100 spray and didn't rub it in on my body and used a cream of the same brand and spf on my face. My face never even got pink but my arms and shoulders burned so badly I had to get medical treatment because the blisters were so severe.
That's what I was thinking. You need a pretty thick layer to get the protection. Like if the bottle says SPF 50 and you spray lightly, you're probably not even getting 20. You need to bathe in that stuff.
😂 I figured that out today when I got burnt!
If you spray it really close to the skin and allow it to pile up and then manually rub it in it's fine
@RetroMonkey1999 I'm a red head so burn easily and I never rub mine in and have never gotten burnt with spray sunscreen. I also put it on my two little kids who have fair skin just since they are young still and they haven't burned either.
That girl actually answered like a pro to an email asking her to scam and lie to her viewers?
I think my answer would've been
"Hello, this is bad practice and not allowed by most laws, so no. Kind regards"
Haha yeah mine would’ve been more like…hi IM GOING TO EXPOSE YOU
@@JamesWelsh yeah that would have been a pretty quick "bestie i'm forwarding this to the ftc good luck"
"No thankyou! That's hella unprofessional and illegal and I'll be forwarding this to the FTC with a list of everyone I've seen promoting your product without saying it's an add!"
@@Steampunkfox143 You aren't wrong, but the phrase "Hella unprofessional" is hilarious

OMG. That touchless sunscreen booth is so cool! There's room for improvement but I would definitely use it for reapplication. Also, I know people who I have to try to convince to use sunscreen and I feel like they would be more willing to use this - some protection is better than nothing.
Yeah exactly! Deffo room for improvement but like…if it gets people using sunscreen!
I am concerned that the storage for the sunscreen just couldn't hold up to the constant sunny weather - we aren't supposed to leave sunscreen in our cars, so how hot does that unit get when it's in the sun 🧐 I'm also super curious what countries these booths are in, and what country's regulations for sunscreen they follow.
So many questions. 😅
@@Kaeracter That's a good point about the heat. Maybe the product is stored in some kind of insulated container that keeps it cool?
@@Kaeracter the outside doesn't get as hot as the inside of your car which gets over 200f that's the equivalent of an oven on it's lowest setting. Putting your sunscreen in an oven would be the same effect. It's common sense things outside wouldn't get as hot
I would be concerned about the sunscreen staining my clothes.
Henna - legit stuff - will be either brown (pretty dark but not black), Red, or "blonde" (it's some of the parts of the plant that make a good conditioner but doesn't carry color). There is a pretty interesting mixing the prep.
Hey i just wanted you to know that as someone who is hard of hearing you having accurate captions on your vids is so appreciated
I'm not hard of hearing, but sometimes I prefer to have the sound off for a VARIETY of reasons! Just goes to show how accessibility makes benefits *everyone*. I think adding accurate captions or transcripts should be the norm in av content.

Im still so sad that Tati was the "i never take sponsorships because people wont trust me" girl for a decade, then she switched up and is now doing undisclosed affiliate links.
It makes me sad too because I thought she was genuine. It’s one thing if she takes sponsorships and discloses them (if she really likes something) but it’s another to lie. After seeing her tik tok lives I unfollowed after years of supporting her. She clearly doesn’t care about what she’s promoting, she just wants a paycheck and I don’t want to support someone like that. If I wanted the shopping channel I’d follow Mikayla.
Even back then she was doing undisclosed ads and deals behind closed doors. It's part of the reason she got in so deep with the wrong crowd lol
Your expression as you watched that girl try to 'fix' her nails is GOLD
I was so triggered the whole time. Like was she even serious? Infuriating that someone would be that way
I'd never imagined I'd see James visibility pale as he watches something
Right? 😂
I got awful nails once, paid, drove to the next nail salon I could find and asked for a take off service lol. It was like 10 bucks and way faster than me doing it myself at home.
I love that James says "because perfection doesn't exist" in a perfect way😂❤
Except my 13 year old dog. 🐶 he is perfection 😇
😍
@@Sunshine-un5wwI will agree with this about any dog
I love how he says aluminum like an absolute polyglot.
That Henna one is wild. Where I live Henna is a common thing and you always have to be careful where you buy your Henna from and which Henna artists you use
Truly appreciate how you and Robert disclose ads, anything gifted, etc. You are transparent and it makes your audience trust your opinions and product reviews.
I will not choose an item to review if the brand info says anything like “don’t include the word gift or gifted In review.” Ughhh like seriously??
Honestly like…is it worth breaking the law?!
@@JamesWelsh right!? I’m not about to tarnish my credibility for a brand *ahem* clarins. Love some of their products but I did not think that was trustworthy.
Ohh yes, girl’s naming names! They deserve to be called out.
So, here's the thing many people don't understand about sunblock is even spray on is supposed to be rubbed in and spready evenly onto your skin. The micro droplets aren't a full, even coating unless you're spraying so much it's noticeably wet, and even then, you want to make sure you aren't missing ANY WHERE. I've seen so many burns from people just spraying and not rubbing it in, including my own before I knew better. I have dry skin on my body, so I didn't want to rub it in and have it get all icky, so I thought just a heavy spray would be effective. I used the same brand in a cream on my face. ...my face was fine, my whole upper body was covered in 2nd degree burns and I had to have the blisters drained surgically because they would get 2 inches high and then burst open otherwise. It was terrible. My dermatologist said they see lots of people getting burns on their backs and stomachs because their aerosol sunblock sprayed unevenly and left swaths unprotected. People know you're supposed to glob on liquid sunblock but then they think aerosol is magic and applies perfectly and evenly in a few quick swipes. You still have to rub it around!
That must have been awful for you, I'm so sorry you had to go through that! Also, thank you for your post, I did not know this about sun protection in spray-form and you just saved me from a similar experience. //a stranger on the Internet.
Oh the poor manicure girl, she's riding the strugglebus all the way to the DEPOT!
You made me choke on my breakfast 😂
I love this expression! 😂
I love the sunscreen booth idea. They really need to have it enclosed. It looked like probably 95% of the sunscreen flew away in the wind, with the way it was open to the air.
How can someone do nail polish so badly… She’s literally dripping polish all over the table. Just pay 15 more dollars to walk into another salon for them to just slap some polish on top 🤦♀️
she seems to have some sort of tremor. as she said she shakes. not her fault really
Ur literally disgusting🤦🏽♂️
She needs to stabilize her working hand on the table
That DIY nail polish remover, omg. I mean, I always make my own DIY nail polish remover, but I use Sprite, Britney Spears Curious, and a packet of Lipton`s Chicken Noodle soup.
My DIY nail polish remover consisted of buying 1L of ethyl acetate as nail polish thinner and putting 30 mL of that in a dropper bottle at a time (for thinning polishes, removing polish from stamping plates, and remove nail polish spills on anything that acetone would melt but ethyl acetate wouldn't). That's harmless DIY. Mixing random chemicals like what she did sounds like school massively failed to impress on her that you can literally accidentally kill yourself and your whole neighborhood if you mix the wrong things together in sufficient quantities...
The ice burn thing....All I can picture is that poor kid from A Christmas Story getting his tongue stuck to the pole. And all his friends ditched him and left him alone while his screams went from "sthuuuck! sthuuuuuuuuck!" to just straight high pitched banshee wailing.🤣🤣
You did a great job with explaining black henna and its hazardous effects! As a Natural Henna Artist, I applaud you, thanks for doing the research and sharing this info, a lot of people don't know the dangers of mass-produced "henna".
The horror on your face with the nail video 😂😂 I totally felt it
lol I felt so bad for her 😭😭
@@JamesWelsh I feel it is fake, what do you think James?
Love the sunscreen sprayer idea, but all I could think about was, "take off your sunglasses!!" Lol that would drive me nuts, you'd need an alcohol wipe to get them clean after all that spray.
It's James's and Robert's transparency around ads that have resulted in me making purchases based on their recommendations - including those in the adverts. I just feel it speaks to overall honesty and I've never gotten a bad product based on either of their reviews or ads yet! I don't buy a lot from influencer recommendations over all, I also feel like how both James and Robert give details and descriptions is really clear and helpful for what I want to know when I am shopping. 💜🖤
The sunscreen machine as a top up would be cool if they worked on the idea a bit. I wonder how much it gets on everyone's clothes though
Nail polish girl gave me major anxiety bc ma’am wtf are you doinnnnnnng how is it all over your table WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?! I’d pay $10 for a polish change somewhere else cause this would drive me insane

@@JamesWelshwow!
@@JamesWelsh They have opened a shop in my city in Spain! It's not an official store but all the clothes they sell are from SHEIN and they advertise it like it.
The way you phrased that makes it sound like shein banned a country instead of a country banning shein and if that ain't a dystopian capitalist future then idk what is
We have a "thrift" shop in our city in north Poland that straight up buys a shitload of clothes from shein, and hangs them with normal used clothes 🙄 It used to be such a nice store, now 90% of their stock is this awful poliester crap

I'm so glad you explained how that sunscreen machine is basically spraying sunscreen into the air lol. I recently watched LabMuffinBeauty 's video on the topic of spray sunscreen and the results were not great. But agreed, I think the idea is really great. I too would be in that machine all day lol.
I’ve seen what happens when “black henna” is used and when you have a reaction it’s NOT good, especially as once that reaction happens, you can develop sensitivities to so many other products. I once worked as a holiday rep and I had to warn customers to avoid. They wouldn’t and then nasty reactions
The sunscreen machine looks so wasteful with uneven coverage, not to mention the possibility of inhaling it.
Those nails, I’m sorry but she had to be lying .. they just look like plastic nail tips .. with no gel or anything put on top of them? That could not have taken 3 hours?!
I was a henna artist at an amusement park and I learned all about real vs black henna. You csn find real henna at most beauty supply stores if you really want it.
The ice-roller girl must have never touched an icepop or icecube straight out of the freezer...

Part of the reason why I love this channel, and James, is because of the honesty. I trust him, and his opinions, and that trust is built and earned. I don't see James ever letting me down! 😆I don't like underhanded tactics from influencers, and I think people value authenticity, transparency and integrity more than ever now in the social media/online space. Those poor girls with the fake henna!
Love their humor about it though
It is all about transparency.
Influencers who are loving 60 zillion products - absolutely not truthful. You like stuff. You love stuff. Your brain is not wired to love and use 25 different cleansers in the same month. Just sayin’.
If I trust someone, I’ll watch the “ad” because I know that their integrity extends into the video.
That’s the thing. If they spent time building a community and peoples trust, then they woukdnt feel bad about posting sponsorships / feel like they have to hide them!
First, LOVE the shirt! Second, don't love the sunscreen applicator. I feel like the ratio of product used to coverage is super unsustainable. Plus whatever you have on you or near the machine is gonna get all greasy. Also I feel like just staying where you are and applying your own spray on sunscreen would be more convenient than having to walk over to this thing and potentially pay if they start charging
Love how you talk about the ads and paid promotion and how influencers need to be following the laws around this!
This is why I love yourself and Robert so much! I feel like I can trust your opinions and that you have made it clear when you are being paid to talk about a certain product or company. I feel like you folks are giving me the facts and your opinions based on years of experience and I can then take that and make an educated decision for myself.
11:38 I think people would need clear/clearer guidelines on how to stand as well. Everyone I’ve seen showing it off has been standing in a way that would mean their inner arms and legs would be missed, the model on the website is standing like she’s getting a spray tan, starfish. Definitely needs some more signage.
Wanted to mention that jagua tattoos are safe.
Jagua appear blue/black and often people wrongly refer to it as black henna.
So if you see a henna booth/place offering "black henna" check/ask about the ingredients. It might just be jagua.
Edit: they also might have added indigo in to the henna mix to make different nuances/colours.
Those henna tattoos were everywhere when I was a kid (you couldn't get to the beach without passing by a few henna tattoos booths). Now that I think about it, it was crazy that some random people were painting children with this.

Omg that nail video at the end is an ever unfolding disaster.
I am glad to be living in the EU.
But also: for bought henna, if you don't have experience with something like this then read reviews and don't buy something without reviews or with enough bad ones. I guess people really didn't exspect the danger of putting product on your skin, since we kind of do that daily. The skin is an organ, and kind of fragile!
The skin can be effected by so much, and once it decides it doesn't like a product or ingredient, it has trouble tolerating it again. Take care of your skin, so it takes care of you!
As soon as I saw that woman get sprayed in the sunscreen booth I was internally screaming "Close your damn mouth! The *influencer* smile ain't worth getting your teeth coated in sunscreen!".
I will never forget a blurb about black henna in Seventeen or another teen magazine years ago about several girls who got awful burns and scars.
Dude. How did i not know you had a nail channel?! Is that new? Gonna need to check that out. I have the hardest problem with growing my natural nails (I'm not a biter). Some will grow a decent amount but then eventually the tip breaks, chips, or peels off. The nails that don't grow very well peel before i get any length. I feel like some of my nails aren't the same shape, maybe it's the nail bed? And no matter how hard i try to shape them I just end up filing them too much and they break. I wore acrylics back in the day (in my early 20s) & have thought about going to have them done but I'm so behind in the current styles & fashion that i wouldn't even know what to ask for. Cheap glue on nails don't stay on long enough & if they do they really do some damage on my natural nails. Maybe i just need to see a dermatologist to see what might be causing me so many issues. Definitely gonna check out the nail channel tho.
That sunscreen machine is so freakin cool. Could be a huge thing if they get it perfected 😊💜
Use cold water on a ice burn. Treat it like a burn.
I don't get how people can't paint a simple coat of nail varnish. Like, I have a bit of paper that medicalises my clumsiness, but I can paint a couple of coats and clean the edges with a cotton bud 😂 x
some people just have very shakey hands. and then mentally trick themselves into thinking they can never do good nails themselves. when really.. you just need to practice and just don't expect Salon quality looking nails.
I have never seen somebody "paint" their nails so bad like that. It look like she never painted her nails. Unbelievable😅 Kids can do it better.
The sunscreen booth should be made like a VersaSpa! The spray moves up and down, the spray is straight forward and directed intentionally. Even distribution!
The nail girl…baby do not mix cleaning chemicals together!!!!! That’s safety 101!
18:38 oh my god. I think they put the acrylic base on and then *didnt blend it into the nail with more acrylic*. There's like a shadow on her pinkie under the white. Yeah I think they just slapped the acrylic base on there, shaped it, and MAYBE painted it
For the last twenty years I've been studying, experimenting with and making my own naturopathic cosmetics, body products, hair products, and medicines. I still do buy certain things like mascara, nail polish, coloful hair dye and eyeshadows. But, I do massive amounts of research into more "natural" brands so I don't mess myself up. And out of this research I have concluded that about 95% of cosmetics out there, even if they say they are more "natural" and "chemical free", are absolute garbage and should never be in or around anyone or anything. I also live in the US where they allow massive amounts of chemicals and treatments that other countries have banned and that have been shown to cause massive problems with one's health. Even if I go with Korean or Japanese brands, it's not the same formula that I would get if I was getting the product in those countries. Needless to say, I trust no one and nothing here and I will make my own sh*t for the rest of my life and shame on the industry for poisoning us all.
When i saw the sunscreen thing, all i can think is how fantastic for people who have sensory or texture issues, like i know some people on the spectrum that can't deal with getting lotion rubbed on them, and i think that would be perfect for them! If there were more of these, more widespread around the world, i would definitely be ready to pay a small price to be able to have access to it!
Oh my goodness, I absolutely LOVE the idea of those sunscreen machines!!
If they can perfect the application technology, I think those could do a lot of good!!😱❤️
The sunscreen booth sounds cool in theory but arent we supposed to be getting away from aerosols?
My favorite thing is when RUclipsrs disclose an ad clearly and put up a little timer of how long the ad is so if you don't wanna watch it, you can just skip through it and get back to the content you want to see. Chad Chad does it very well
I've mentioned this in other comments - ad agencies engaging influencers for marketing will include a clause requiring adherence to FTC guidelines, etc, and an indemnity requiring the influencer to cover the agency's costs if the agency gets in trouble for the influencer's non-compliance. Sometimes the agency will gladly overlook influencer non-compliance to reap the benefits, thinking they'll just rely on the indemnity if it comes back to bite them. Not all the time, obviously.

I got a Henna Tattoo done in Disney, they use the proper materials and it's not super cheap but it is super worth it. [and yes Disney World likely charges more than buying a proper kit for yourself!]
It was gorgeous, didn't hurt, didn't stink, didn't cause any issues for me, and I miss it every day [I got it in 2017 XD so] and it's 100% worth paying for the proper materials. But if I had a bad one used and had a perma scar of that, I'd probably be really upset despite missing it - because instead of a fun memory of my birthday trip, it'd be a reminder of being careless.
The sunscreen sprayer is something my aunt and I were hoping for way back in the 90s. However we were picturing it more like a spray tan both were your sprayed from all sides very heavily then rub it in best you can when you don’t have someone to get the areas you can’t reach. It’s better than nothing.
How can someone fail so horribly at painting nails that was flabbergasting
The sunscreen machine is cool! Reminds me of the OG spray tan machines.
Just a word of warning. I had one of those gel bead mask things and used to use it when I had swollen eyes from hay fever. I took it from the freezer, popped it on and had a nap, as I'd done before several times. When I woke up it took at least ten minutes for my eyes to 'unfog' so I could see clearly and I was genuinely worried I'd damaged them permanently. Do not put those masks in the freezer, only the fridge.
The nail girl is so chaotic 😂
I remember news stories about 10-15 years ago about the dangers of black henna that was being used at the beach and amusement parks etc and I think they actually cracked down on it somewhat. I really have no idea why ppl would order something meant to dye their skin off one of these shady sites. And why were those girls laughing?!
i truly like the fact that you look at the camera and not how look in it. i know, it might be a small thing, but to me, counts greatly.
In cosmetology school we were instantly taught that if a person has ever used black henna they cannot have their eyebrows, eyelashes or hair dyed ever!!! It can lead to fetal allergic reaction.
The girl with the nails…. I could feel the stress emanating from her through the phone and I actually started feeling secondhand stress 😂
PPD is transdermal, it will get into your bloodstream through your skin. It is used not only in hair dye but also in textile and other industrial dyes and it is not for use on the skin.
Here is the science:
With real 100% natural henna, the lawsonia plant dye molecule is too big to pass through your epidermis to your living tissue and into your bloodstream. The lawsonia molecule bonds to the keratin proteins in the epidermis, or hair or nails, and that’s how the dye deposits. As your skin exfoliates the dyed skin cells are shed and the dye fades.
Omg! They did that girl with the nails DIRTY! Her nail polish remover concoction is unhinged. I was cringing the whole time.
The girl painting her nails did my anxiety in 😂
