      Literally just paused the video to do a little sleuthing, these credentials are mentioned on numerous sites, several of which I mostly trust as far as veracity of info since I’m able to search/check for actual, reputable doctors I personally know.
      However, the verbiage in every single one of his bios seems self written and very casual, language wise, if that makes sense. He IS board certified and has publications (lots of cancer research) but at the same time I’m not sure I would trust his advice, if not misinformation than his delivery is….strange to me.
      But then, he’s a social media physician that seems a tad too too unserious in that regard imho, and seems to suffer from short man syndrome on top of the inflated egos some doctors have, so I remain cautious lol

      Schools MAY verify degrees, but they do not HAVE to tell just any member of the public. Don’t bother the registrar, please, and register a complaint or query with the state licensing folks and/or the National Board if they are claiming to be board-certified. Note: board cert is optional, you can still be a specialist without it, but falsely claiming it is big trouble, and extra big if they’ve publicly lied about any credentials. Watch out for “attended” tho, it doesn’t mean matriculated or graduated. Anyone can go to Harvard’s lifelong learning branch, for example, and technically they’ve attended Harvard. Lots of scammers do this, it’s technically right & is legal.

      I am just curious. Why are newly graduate doctors like that to be so full of themselves? Are they rich? Or is it just pride? By hierarchy stand point, they aren't in the highest rank cuz they still new to the field. I could imagine doctors who worked for many years would be the ones full of themselves. In some ways that would make more sense. So it's very cringy to see doctors like Dr. Charles who just graduated be prideful and talk down to more experienced doctors. I thought new doctors would be more humble with their lack of experience and knowledge. And I thought being prideful as a new doc would hurt their reputation and credibility. Isn't this common sense to med students and newly grads? But I never been thru that field so I don't what med students go thru and think about.

    • @bearystarberry
      @bearystarberry 6 месяцев назад +20

      @@hedgiebing55 I think it is primarily based upon their background and their personality. I have met the sweetest doctors young and old and there are always the bad ones in both groups. I do believe some of my best experiences have been with IMG doctors so take that as you will.
      I think a few of the younger doctors treat their “Dr” title as a status symbol. They have every right to be proud of completing medical school and their postgraduate training (especially as some take 4+ years), but some take it to the extremes and come off as a POS.

      To supplement your point ,this guy studied evolutionary biology at Harvard for undergrad. I am not entirely sure how that remotely relates to modern medicine other than historical information, but maybe someone more educated about the field could let me know. With regards to med school, lots of med students will tell you that there are a group of students that will actual try to understand the science to become good physicians and there are a group of students that will just memorize what they need to know for the board exams. I think it's safe to say Dr. Charles falls in the latter group.

    • @eileen_a_b
      @eileen_a_b 7 месяцев назад +13

      @AnikaReza to be fair, your undergrad focus/degree doesn't matter as long as you have taken the necessary classes that are listed as a pre-requisit to get into the medical program. It's probably not useful in his medical degree and it probably was an easier undergrad degree compared to some others he could have chosen, but he surely took the science classes that were required. I absolutely agree that there are different types of med students and working doctors. He definitely comes across as the type who is in it for the money and recognition. He has no shame and it's gross.

    • @Anre23
      @Anre23 7 месяцев назад +9

      @eileen_a_b you are absolutely right about degree of study being relatively inconsequential to getting into medical school. But the reason I mention his undergraduate field is because he intentionally did not specify it in his profile. Even if you look at his dermatology clinic websites, his educational background is not listed there. People can easily be led to believe that he got his medical degree from Harvard (which I admitting thought at first). Of course, Duke is no school to scoff at either, but half truths about his background is a red flag. He is using his alma mater as a lure to convince people he is credible. (I definitely should have clarified my train of thought in my initial response 😅)

    I'm curious, in the UK, would it be sufficient for a brand owner to state "brand owner" in associated brand posts on their personal account? Or do they need to say "ad" or "sponsored" ?
    I ask just because I could see an argument (not that I necessarily agree) that a post isn't an ad or a sponsorship if there isn't a marketing agreement laid out between the brand and the influencer account. Many personal influencer accounts are businesses themselves, so I could see an (unethical) argument that stating it's an ad would be incorrect if there isn't actual money exchanging between businesses. Just curious if anyone knows what the laws state in those circumstances.

    Yes years ago I bought a Chanel foundation online when I’d been buying it from the Boots Chanel counter in the UK for a couple of years… I was taking a break from running my then business when I was only 18, due to family issues so was looking for cheaper options & I found the exact Chanel foundation on line which looked so genuine that I bought it.
    Once it arrived & I opened it, it was in a class bottle with identical labelling & colours… the lot, but at the back of my mind I could see the colour wasn’t correct & remember not seeing the shade I always got from Boots as an option on line so just assumed I’d picked wrong as online swatches can be misleading. So I used it, several times, however it never felt, smelled or looked or seemed the same… never broke me out or anything but just something cheap about it… but the shade matched my tan perfectly.
    So I decided to save up & go buy from Boots again but I took the bottle I bought on line with me to get that shade, well that shade never existed in the Chanel range, it was fake, cheap nasty stuff, which I guess I knew deep down 😂
    But the point of my story is that this was 20 years ago… so imagine how much scams/fakes & the rest of it have increased in that 20 years??
    Be careful people ❤❤❤❤

    I'm so glad you've done this video. Would you consider doing one on the gifts brands are giving to influencers, such as Chanel and Birkin handbags, worth thousands of dollars and the subsequent content generated about the handbag and associated hyperbole about the brand's product? I'm thinking about a couple of American influencers in particular.

    I feel like so many brand owning influencers do that! I noticed that Blogilates doesn’t seem to tag things as an ad when making content directly about popflex clothing.

      I agree that it would be ideal for her to be tagging her videos as ads, but I think legally she is in the clear because every video is her saying “I/we made _____”. It would be really hard to argue in court that a reasonable viewer wouldn’t know it’s her brand and that she financially benefits from the sales.
      From what I have seen myself and heard others say about the Tala CEO, the issue with her videos was that she wasn’t explicitly saying “I made ____” or “my product”, and that someone who wasn’t familiar could watch one of those videos and reasonably believe that it wasn’t her own company.

    I see a few people saying the Cay Skin SPF lip gloss made their lips burn, but I do wonder if they’ve tried other SPF balms too? Because my lips get irritated by ALL chemical SPF balms, even if my facial skin is okay with the same sunscreen ingredients. I can use mineral SPF on my lips though (just bought the Supergoop one). I think we just gotta remember the skin on the lips is even thinner than even that on our face and may be even more easily sensitized. Not that I’m defending a prolapsing lip balm, but just curious if others have tried SPF lip balms before the Cay Skin.

    Friendly reminder that Dr Mike was partying it up with a huge group on a yacht pretty early in the pandemic. I think it was September 2020, right when we were begging people to lockdown, and he was in Florida, one of the worst areas for people not really trying to follow guidelines.
    It's probably best to question most doctors, lawyers and other "experts" that become so popular online.

      @@ReadRidinghe did an apology on his side channel when it had very few subscribers and kept pushing out content on his main channel to drown the comments. At the time, he was also putting out videos saying that travelling/partying was not a good idea regardless of the situation because no vaccine + full hospitals. And then his apology had the tone of "but I actually know what I'm doing so it's fine". It was a terrible apology. I appreciate his content, but could not subscribe after that.

    I have a suspicion that those fakes maybe were being sold at Shopee stores or something similar. Shopee is amazing when it comes to finding small businesses and I can buy directly from Korea through there, but I've seen Thai/Chinese/Indonesian sellers with suspicious products there, and not only designer products but also hard-to-get products like special edition/niche products from brands like Nivea and Japanese skincare and makeup.

    I did think brand owners didn't need to declare ADs on their personal pages. That might be the interpretation of the American laws as I've heard them explained before. It is clearer to declare AD/sponsored so the audience knows there is a vested interest in the influencer selling a product. If the influencer says it's their brand in the post, is that enough? I can see how an influencer thinks its obviously their product but it's always gonna be someone's first contact with the influencer/brand.

    This was excellent James!! Thank you so much for sharing all of this🥰 On the lip balm cases, the samples mfgrs send to the client for approval are sometimes made from a small batch so that they are perfect rather than being pulled from the same process that the live run will use, which is what's supposed to happen. 90% of the time, this works out and saves a lot of time but it's not proper.

    Anyone can post videos, and any professional from any possible trade or science or craft can post videos. That being said, if you want to still practice whatever you're doing outside of the internet you have to stay real and be credible. Admit it if you were wrong, say sorry, stay real (within the SM frames, we know there is editing and there are filters and set ups and all the rest). That's how people like Dr.Mike stayed afloat for years. It's not about chasing the clout, it's about being credible. Look at Mama Dr Jones, Dr Mike, In other genre Brad Mondo, or Abby Cox and Nichole Rudolph and Karolina Żebrowska, or enterntainment wise The Click (Blair tried to sink him, major RUclips drama) - people who are honest in what they are doing somehow keep going. Forgot about AskTheMortician, Caitilin is wonderful in her work. Point being - thousands or millions views on tiktok will not secure your future or career.

    From my understanding, medicine is not meant to heal but is more so like a temporary bandaid till you need it again so I find it strange that he would recommend certain medications in the name of health. Something someone will want without the codependency of medicine. And then once you get off the medication, will your body adjust well or be able to produce what the medicine helped with?
