I have loved honda all my life I am a mechanic by trade and the difference in workmanship to others I've worked on is incredible !!! If I could get a job at honda I would work for free !!!!
devi dev- was in love with Honda since my first motorcycle ( minibike?) a 1971 Honda mini trail. I got lucky enough to grow up in the golden era of motorcycles. Every year it was some new mindblowing leap in technology. I wasn't faithful, I would ride anything. After 15 years away I bought a 2004 KTM 525 EXC with 6 speeds. I'm bringing my guardian angel out of retirement!
Would've loved to get more information on that engine. Since it is the only one of its kind things like firing order and crank configuration would be interesting. Nevertheless a great video.
when you see a toybike and want to ride it over a toy carpet (like ones as a child). This is the perfect sound to interpret it. And than you understand: The Power of Dreams
And somewhere along the way, Honda decided exciting, cutting edge, top machinery wasn't what motorcycle customers wanted anymore. I'd buy a V5 powered 12-14 thousand USD street bike that made good power. People buy lots of stuff based on sound these days. The Aprilia Tuono gets praised for that constantly, as well as the crossplane crank Yamaha R1.
I am amazed by the beauty and engineering of this engine and saddened. I don't understand why Honda killed this engine and didn't use it in the CBR1000RR. Honda please answer. Thank you

Things change when another manufacturer uses Desmodromic valves instead of Pneumatic valves and another manufacturer arises with a concept of Cross Plane Crankshaft.
Have no idea why honda can't bring back the awesome sounding v4's from the 90's the gear driven cams people would buy these bikes just for the sound look at Harley Davidson there's a reason they will never go to a dual pin crank it's all about the sound.
@Jeremy Robertson he mention gear driven cams because of the racy gear whine sound. And shared pin cranks (with the Harley v angle) to account for the distinctive sound...
Personally I would like to see the bike manufacturers go back to the unrestricted designs of the 60,s before the inevitable introduction of moto e. Four strokes have peaked and are relying on electronics to manage the 260-270 bhp they have. The rcv had 220hp in 2002 which shows that in 17 yrs they have only increased by a small amount. It was the same with the 500,s there is only so much power for a given capacity. Imagine a v4 1000 two stroke with all the electronics of today along with fuel injection and tyre and suspension it could easily produce over 300 bhp and weigh less than 130 KGS along with traction control and anti wheelie it would wipe the floor against any 1000cc four stroke. But why stop there for a few glorious seasons before we bail out of petrol based engines let the engineers take their gloves off and and have a anything goes mentality to see who can build the baddest fuel motogp bike ever!
Power isn't everything. The way that power is being delivered is where so much development has taken place. Frame, swingarm, forks, tyres, traction control, aerodynamics, fuel mapping, weight centralization, metallurgy, manufacturing complexity, material flex, weight reduction through alloys, etc etc etc. Building a big strong engine was never the main hurdle. Improving the tech for every other component is where amazing progression has been made. It all led to motorcycles being the incredible feats of engineering that they are today, which can be ridden hard by a vast number of people because they're easy and confidence inspiring to ride. Without tech to fully utilize the power of a big engine, a bike just gets intimidating and too powerful for it's own good. I ride a '17 1290 Superduke R.
Electronics have ruined MotoGP, there should be no traction control, wheelie control and launch control. It should be riders ability to control the power and torque. Right now manufacturers who can't afford electronic engineers are suffering. Real riders will shine and Motorcycle chassis development will be the main focus again rather than electronics.
For a racer having more power is something they always want. When Sheene first road the rg500 it produced 100 bhp and weighed 100kgs. It would wheelie in every gear and seize every other race but still they wanted more power. This continued until beam frames were introduced to harness the power better. The bikes increased in power until they peaked around 200 bhp but still they wanted more power. The 500,s as I said could no longer produce more power as there are limits to what an engine can produce and be used for bike racing. They did not have the technology back them to tame the engine like today. The manufacturers were pushing for four strokes to take over racing as emissions were against two strokes for road bikes but to start racing with a superior bike to the two stroke they had to double the capacity and shrink the engine as much as possible. For sure they have come up with many innovations that have been of great benefit to road bikes because that's what racing does. But as far as the moto gp bikes go they are compared to the 500,s computer controlled missiles which would be as unraceable as the early peaky two strokes of the mid 70,s. If not equipped with the electronics they have. That was why I said that it would be cool to have a free for all without restrictions because a racer will always want more power its just the way the bike can put it down that restricts it and if you are using a small engine it is always going to get violent without electronics to calm it.
@@billroberts5661 so it makes it difficult, thats a good thing for racing maybe not good for road use. This might make the overall pace slower but racing will be closer and more spectacular for the viewer.
he says that they think about two cylinder 1000cc 4stroke engine and 135kg, but this canot happens because dont meet the regulations that moto gp had that years, as ducati was thinking the same but it was the piston diameter that they canot built this type of engines

Yes, you are correct. Dorna is busy turning MOTO GP into Nascar. Very unfortunate.

Wow, first time seeing a V5 engine, incredible.
