- Handbag Clinic is a luxury service in London that restores, authenticates, and resells designer handbags and shoes. Its senior artisan, Daniel Thompson, restores a vintage Louis Vuitton vanity case that was used to store things like cosmetics while traveling in the early '60s. In its current state, where the interior is no longer functional, it is estimated to be valued at 1,000 to 1,500 pounds. Handbag Clinic cofounder Charlotte Staerck walks us through the process of restoration, which will make the case functional again and raise its value to 3,000 pounds ($3,862).

How A $4,000 Louis Vuitton Vanity Case Is Professionally Restored | Refurbished - Хобби
Fun fact items that are not refurbished by Louis Vuitton themselves don't sell very well on the resale market. And what's more interesting is if someone refurbish items out side lv and let's say u want to take it back to lv to get redone, they don't accept it.
This comment should be higher lol
@@janedoll3237 well, ur wish came true. This comment is second for me.....
but I mean that makes sense. it’s not entirely an authentic lv bag if parts have been refurbished. and lv wouldn’t wanna touch it if somebody else has worked on it before because they could’ve messed it up and then that would be put on lv
@@catharticmemefairy2088 I think he just wants to inform people before they get their bags refurbished by another company.
@@janedoll3237 yeah I know I was just justifying it incase someone else thought it was wildly outlandish

I reckon. Maybe she actually needs to actually prepare an actual script, and just actually read off it.
Not only is she winging the script (or lack thereof), her English is awful! I've never come across a native English speaker with that tenuous a grasp of the language.
@@hooeezit I was just thinking that, she makes the whole thing feel less professional

This was a great restoration but I just want to point out that even the legendary Louis Vuitton cuts corners. I expected the trim leather on the outside to actually be sewn into the cover, not glued. I didn’t know the LV printed cover was canvas instead of leather. I see that as another corner cut that they get away with just because it’s Louis Vuitton. I see the interior being glued in as a big corner cut. Anybody with basic leather working skills could copy this exact case, use leather instead of canvas, and actually sew the trim and interior panels onto the case, would make a far superior product. There are smaller names, mom and pop shops, out there that blow these “designer” brands away in terms of quality for half or even three times less the price of a LV. Saddleback Leather for instance. He’s getting bigger, but his quality goes miles above Louis Vuitton in terms of durability and aesthetics.
LV is not known for quality, just $$ making. Hermès is the bastion for quality assurance
Saddleback quality above LV? Are you on crack?
I'm quite surprised for the workmanship of this thing too. Can't believe the trims are just glued on!
Well said but unfortunately a lot of people see them selves having more value when wearing an expensive brand. To me the print and colors are not good looking and yes, they can get away with selling you plastic just because the name brand. Even if I were rich I wpuldnt buy these kind of non sense.
The canvas is used because it’s hard wearing and weather proof. If these trucks were all leather it would not have survived this long
Love how in-depth the restoration is explained. I enjoy watching & learning 😊
On the left side of the box the monogram doesn’t line up. That’s a massive red flag

Amazing restoration!
So i like more videos on refurbishing luxury items rather than actually buying the items. but this time? I really liked the actual look of the bag. And I liked the choices the refurbishes made toward preserving as much of the bag’s charm and age as she could.
I really appreciated this project, thank you for sharing
LV products are what they are, and in this short video clip doco-commentary, I like how much care and attention is put into keeping with the origin integrity of the piece. I’m certain the owner/ the piece itself will enjoy another 60yrs of enjoyment, of which by then it would be classified a classic and hopefully the custodian at that time could qualify to get it serviced by an authorised LV agent if the owner chose that path
I think it’s fantastic restoration companies like this exist, I like to see the restoration industry aiming for standards excellence
One almost important thing I learnt from this video.. the purpose of a divider..
Listening to the narrator caused me to appreciate the value of professional voice-over artists.
As a professional v/o myself, I only wish bookers were that discerning. This is literally making my teeth ache. 🥴

How many times does she need to say perfect...
Amazing work ❤️
This should be sent to Paris and repaired by Louis Vuitton as this is a vintage LV item. Extreme care must be taken including down to the type of leather! If this is appraised by LV and any non authentic material used to repair could destroy all value
its actually not a authentic lv
I doubt it is vintage
i always wonder, do items like this increase ir decrease in value after restoration of this magnitude? it certainly loss the antiqueness, and one can argue it losses brand value, while it gains on functionality. but how much of the original value lies on functionality?
Surprised you didn’t do some surface repair on the corner hardware?
This is so magical
People are so mean! This video is very well done and very educational good job y'all ♥️
I love Louis Vuitton because they are so subtle and moderate when it's about placement of their logo on their stuff
I hope this is a joke. The pattern itself is so obvious that it is like a loud horn blast. Lol... subtlety is NOT a Louis Vuitton trait.
🤣🤣🤣
Subtle? Moderate? The LV logos are all over the bags. Right, sarcasm.
I'll never, ever, ever understand how or why people buy these dreadful-looking handbags.
Well, when you look at some other brands it is pretty subtle😄. At least this isn't a big neon logo right in your face

Who would’ve guessed that this trunk weighed more than a ton.

How much does they pay for this job ... I'd love to try once
Great video, nice job.
Does anybody still see them when travelling ? In the 80’s they were everywhere , particularly the Delsey and the Samsonite ones but it looks like women do not use them anymore . Am I right or it is just an impression ?
I think it depends on your luggage. When traveling with a trunk it was easier to keep your cosmetics and toiletries separate from clothing/shoes... as most trunks were stored in cargo bays.. then as luggage (suitcases) became more popular they still weren't deep enough to carry everything together. So vanity cases were still used. Modern luggage, however, are not only deep enough to hold a vanity case, but also come with extra compartments. So having is structured vanity case as this one my be redundant when packing, but if one still wanted to keep their toiletries/cosmetics separate they now use toiletry bags. Vanity cases are still used, but I think it's more based on preference rather than necessity.
Decoration and home accessory…?
❤️😋
Muted the video while watching..... so much better.
The item is an item that is used for being an item.
Beautiful
When they restored the pleated pocket on the inside, they didn't use the same leather, or at least didn't dye it. In the original, it was the same honey color as the rest of the attachments, but when they replaced it, it was the same color as the sides and bottom.
Fascinating!!!!
The stitches is different from the original
Silent is gold
I only trust LV with my repairs. Watching them deconstruct almost gave me a heart attack.

You are still over paying for it anyway. You could find something equal or better quality for 1000% less
@@fatkat311 but it wouldn't be LV?

@@19anilam so you’re paying for the brand name rather than the quality of the bag? I see where your priorities lie but I suppose that’s none of my business wether you get conned or not.😐
You talk , unstoppable !!!
This is NOT an authentic Louis Vuitton product. It's a counterfeit. A hard-sided Louis Vuitton beauty case would not have any stitching but nails. The hardware is full brass so would not be silver in color.
The monogram was a dead giveaway if u ask me ...it's way to large
But why would they do a whole video on restoring a fake case?? It seems like he would know.
@@themoongoddess1190 - If somebody owns it and it has sentimental value then they might just want it to be nice to keep it. Or, the owner could be insistent it's genuine LV, they're hardly likely to say "you're mistaken" or "you're a liar" to a client. Either way they just have to get on with it.
@@christopherbogardus4682 I work for Louis Vuitton.
@@christopherbogardus4682 It’s quite common knowledge.
Even if i had 3000 pounds just laying around I would have never spend that money on this kinda products.
I really can’t see the worth of this kinda
high end products. For me its a waste of money.
I agreed. I have a jewellery box my late mum gave me years ago - it's a mini one that you can take a few little bits on holiday with you (it's actually my only one because I'm not really big on jewellery). It's leatherette (faux leather, pleather?) and it has little velvet style trays in it. I think it cost her a few pounds in a market. It's MINT even now, despite always being out and being used. So I'd say that, if you look after your stuff, even cheap things can last a very long time. My family never had much money so I've always been a 'make do and mend' sort. I'd NEVER be able to spend over £3k on a BAG! even if I were rich; I'd never spend that on a CAR even!
@@Tracy137
I totally agree.
Even affordable stuff can last pretty long and can meet the requirements.
Like you were talking about jewellery. I still can see how people like to buy gold , silver jewellery as they maintain their value even in the long term. It’s like an investment.
But spending huge amounts of money on this kinda fancy stuff is completely shocking for me. It’s a complete waste of money.
@@Tracy137
You know in India were i live 3000 pounds are equal to almost 3,00,000. Rupees.
For some Indians it’s a year worth of salary.
And People are buying bags worth that.
It breaks my heart seeing such contrast between living standards of humans.
@@Lovepreet_Singh93 Precisely - when I read about a celebrity telling me not to drive my car when I NEED to (I live in a rural area), yet they use a private jet all the time and tell me not to buy clothes (I don't unless I need them), yet they spend £50 thousand pounds on a DRESS for ONE night at the oscars or something, I get so cross. I think it's terrible these people waste money like that instead of trying to help people who are homeless or animal rescues, etc. I always donate to local charities because I KNOW the money gets spent on those who need it - whether people or animals. If I was as wealthy as so many of these celebrities I would donate so much of my money.
@@Tracy137
Rich people like to preach those who are less fortunate. But they won’t do anything to help reduce poverty.
Even Religions are the same. They get so much money in donations but won’t help the less fortunate. And they too like to preach others.
I too give my old clothes, shoes , blankets etc to homeless people. And every year for my birthday i donate 20kg wheat flour to an organisation which help feed poor people stuck in hospitals.
I try to help as much as i can.
It’s nice to know that you too are somewhat like me and likes to help as much as you can.
It was really nice to meet you.
I wish you all the very best for your future and hope you’ll have a happy, healthy and successful life.
He does a great job but holy shit what a low quality product. Like literally cardboard and glue. The stitches are fake. No wonder it's completely falling apart.
Why is this so satisfying ?
Be honest it didn't lose any significant value it's a box with a brand that people buy to feel significant. Look at the way that it's falling apart that tells me that it was cheaply and poorly designed and manufactured. If anyone paid $4,000 for that they must be loony
This is a vintage item, from what I gather it's at least 60 years old.
People have different values and this falls into the category of art for many people. No-one sees your vanity case so I doubt they bought Louis Vuitton to show off. Everyone that buys luxury knows it’s overpriced much like many pieces of art 😂

Because Daniel is the one "actually" doing the work.

The giveaway was when she said four corners. There are eight corner pieces. But as a few have said. I’d love to hear Daniel talk through the process
I thought the same lmao
That trunk looks like a fake one , never seen any product on which you can see the hinge plus never seen a lock like that
*HOWEVER, how much did that restoration cost?*
I need to know this.
Interesting video, Use a non marring hammer on those pins
Not well made in the beginning if it can become this. Amazing that people don't realise how little leather is in a Vuitton bag. A bag than cost less than 80 euros to make usually, sometimes cheaper. This is basically a wooden box covered in resin coated canvas with little leather trims and some brass. Cost of materials almost nothing. It's ONLY the name that sells this, not it's quality.
The voiceover said the piece is 60 years old. It's in decent shape considering the age and how well used it is -- the corners needed replating due to use. After 6 decades, and ONLY those straightforward and doable repairs plus some cleaning, NOT a complete restoration/rebuild of barely held together canvas, I would say that's a well made and quality piece.
The older LV still has leather parts and made from better raw material.
Lately, too much finishing and emboss. The built quality? So-so. That's why LV is the low tier of luxury brands.
@@zitronentee I worked in luxury couture for over 40 years in Paris and can state that no one in this field would be seen with a Vuitton. Only those who work at Vuitton use them as they get huge discounts, still paying more than they cost to make.
@@TheFiown Ikr. I work in leather industry and I've seen how LV materials made. I always see LV as patent leather nearing pleather. At least Hermes is still trying to pronounce the natural look of the raw material and I think it's worth the price, considering very good raw material is kinda rare these days.
@@zitronentee Hermes are in fashion, a world apart as they have first dibs into most leathers produced worldwide. I worked with someone who made their leather clothes and the waste counted for 80% of the product as they only use a small % of the skins and had to be burnt, not cool! I would not suggest you see how the crocodile skins are harvested it's violent and brutal and should exist no where on earth.
